I have a XDA11i and ruin it on a P A G sim o2.
I can at a real high cost surf the net using GPRS Cellular line at 2.35 per meg !!!
I could also get on line free as cellular line , dial no 07712927927 , o2wap, password, ip 103,113,200.200 . ( very slow though )
But now each time I try to connect to the non GPRS connection I get the " no modem " box , despite the fact that if you dial the line on a normal phone it seems clear there still is ?
Any thoughts ???

Maybe O2 realised their configuration mistake at their end, and just closed off the username's access?
Older O2 payg sims had 300minutes of WAP dialup on them free each month.
I expect this is what you have, I used to use the same thing.
I often got the no modem response, its crappy o2 networks. If you try again in a couple days it may work again!
You can upgrade to 1meg GPRS for free a month instead of 300minutes, but to be honest, i think the 300minutes are worth more!
As far as I know the dialup number, username and password are all correct, but maybe the IP isnt. Try going back to server assigned ip.

Hey all,
My friend got a Communicator 9210i , and yesterday he dialed the isp and started surfing the internet, i tried doing that with my imate using a cellualr line to dial a landline ISP and use dial up to surf the net but it didnt work, so iam wondering if it is even supported in Imate.
Please reply
GPRS is slow/expensive in my country
thanks in advance
Your provider has to support that, and it has to be provisioned on your account. It's called CSD, and is typically billed as a standard phone call. You will get 9600bps data speed over it. The device will do it.
thanks 4 ur fast reply, but the case is iam using the same ISP as my friends with the 9210i , so is it possible that the 9210 works and PPC doesnt work? like i dont know if 9210 uses the same interface CSD lines. but here whats iam getting while dailing the number , No modem found @ this number.
thanks again
i need to connection from my imate to ssh my server when i need to : )
CSD has to be enabled by your CELLULAR carrier, not the ISP. The error you gave is exactly what happens when CSD is off at the carrier.

ok , will contact the company and ask them if it is supported or if i need to pay anything to make it work .

I went through all this, and can tell you that o2 payg doesn't support gprs. That's why people use Orange payg.

I do Believe
I do believe that if you call O2 CS that can transfer your number to a different carrier.
Please help...
I have a xda2 running on a corporate Bes server everything on Mail side works perfectly only problem i have is getting internet access to work through the hidden apn on the blackberry service.
I have looked though all the posts and not found much about this..
My question is ... do vodafone (uk) have a proxy server address or is this a problem with my sim (gprs) ?
I can use the standrd Apn from vodafone which works but drops my blackberry service when it connects.... so if you want to browse the web you will lose your email until you stop browsing and stop start BB service... Any ideas ?
Rom Version : 2.02.t1WWE
Radio version : 1.18.00
Thanks guys !... Really impressed with this wicked forum...
We have over 300 standard blackberrys and 1 xda2 I need to show them the xda is the future ...
Any consolation that it does the same for O2
It is set up so that if you connect to the internet, it drops BB until the internet connection is released. You have a BB APN & an (ISP) Internet APN.
Are you running BES4 yet? I heard that it was going to be better for XDA2 but haven't seemed to get any benefits yet
Blackberry Client
BaZzA,
We have just started with Blackberry and users are being supplied with the Blackberry 7100 . I have an XDA 2 on Vodafone IRl and have been trying to set it up but the only client software I can find for it is the T-Mobile I found a link to on this forum . I've checked the Vodafone.ie web site but they don't seem to like XDA for some reason .Any idea where I might find a client that doesn't have German settings ????
Thanks ...
HW
Both the client and the application i used ...
you will need to get your vodafone sim enabled for use on the blackberry.net APN.... does work fine ... until i tried a new sim cant seem to unlock my Pin code from my bes server...now
But does work very well..
Oh ... Puff The Magic Wagon!
not running Bes 4.0 yet will do very soon .
Baz
Tks
Thanks BaZza,
I'll give it a go with an enabled SIM tomorrow..

Hi all , just got a spv m3100 and am gonna upgrade to WM6 and unlock the SIM/CID , now then.....
In the UK which is the cheapest/best data provider on PAYG , anyone offer free browsing on evenings/weekends? Do all use HSPDA?
How do i go about setting up 3g or even where to buy a 3g sim?
Also WIFI is free if i connect to my own wireless router isnt it?
Sorry for being so completely thick , and i have googled around for data tariffs btw but cant really work out half the hidden charges etc
i dunno about cheapest/best data provider, but for sure noone offers free evenings.
3g service is a capability built into your phone, and a "3g" sim card is just a normal sim card. there really is no such thing.
Wifi IS most definitely free if you connect to your own router.
Thanks for the responce , I know Orange do free evenings....
"Get up to 1000 free texts to anyone every month
and free evening mobile Internet browsing"
http://shop.orange.co.uk/shop/sim/payg_sim
Apparently the most you can spend is 1 pound a day (on most providers) , is this for 3G as well as / or only for GPRS. And are there any hidden charges?
How have you guys found browsing on your PPC's/PDA's etc?
Also which provider should i choose , who provides the best service in your opinion?
cheers
roy
as i understand it, 100p = 1 pound, right?
It shows that each area/region code has different going rate.
It seems like a reasonable deal, and orange i believe has 2g services (EDGE)
I think it says that the REGISTRATION fee is 1 pound, and the most you will end up spending for data is 2 pounds a day. This works like any prepaid card, you add money, you call people, money gets taken off the card.
It seems like a good deal, but orange has a history of sneaky language.
For example, their "Unlimited Data" actually mean "At 3 gb, we start watching you"

Click to collapse
I think the 3 network is the best , 5 pound per month for 2 g data . it is very good at the moment , I use it for some months and the speed is ok so if you want to use the net on the go you should try to give it a go
buy a 3 simcard
install cap file on your spv m3100 which is all setting for internet
click start/setting/connection
click connection/manage existing connection
click Proxy setting/advanced
stick this network uses aproxy server to connect to the internet
click wap under server enter 192.168.71.35 under port 9201
click ok 5 times
topup 10 pound PAYG and then use your spv 3100 go to http://mobile.three.co.uk/pc/Live/pcreator/live/mwsun
go to my 3
from there you to buy internet add-on 5 pound p/m
you should only go to internet after bouth add-on because if you didnt they will charge very expensitive
Hey, i'm currently using WM2003 on an xda2i.
What is exceptionally frustrating is if I want to use wifi internet, I have to to to
Start-> Settings-> Connections-> connections-> advanced and change BOTH drop downs to WORK NETWORK.l If I want to use GPRS internet I have to do the same but select MY ISP in the first drop down. Switching between communication methods is extremely annoying :S
Also, if I connect to GPRS and leave it on it auto disconnects quite quickly, (10-15 mins) and then the phone needs to be reset inorder to reconnect.
My question might seems illy, but can anyone tell me if things work PROPERLY on pater versions of windows mobile and on the blackstone as I've never used anything except WM2003.
Thank you for your help, I WANT this phone.
.........Ib a n e
The problem you describe is not present on my Touch (Elf) so I'm sure it's been fixed by now. In fact, I didn't have the same problem even on my Exec (Universal) three years ago.
Fantastic! thank you for the input. I'm slowly realising how much I am putting up with in my 2i. I love it, but I need a change, and I don't really want an iPhone.
Might sell my SOUL to afford a sim free Touch HD and this was a stumbling block.
Thanks for clearing it up
I'm also just wondering whether I can justify buying SIM-free and a SIM-only contract from O2, against the cost of a phone on contract.
SIM-free for 18 months:
Phone - £500
SIM card - £20 per month (including unlimited mobile web)
Total - £860
On contract for 18 months:
Phone - £100 (guess based on Touch Pro)
Monthly cost - £35 (including unlimited mobile web)
Total - £730
There's a huge difference in cost and I'm not sure I can justify it just to get one today instead of waiting a couple of months until O2 release the Touch HD on contract (assuming they do). But I really really want this phone. (In fact, mainly I really really want to leave Orange and go back to O2, whose network actually works where I live.)
To add further info to your original question, I've set up seven email accounts in my Touch and they check for new mail periodically (some accounts every two hours, some every 30 mins). If I've turned Wi-Fi on then the connection happens through Wi-Fi but if I'm out of range or Wi-Fi is off then the phone will automatically and silently connect to GPRS and check emails that way. I never need to touch anything. Once it's connected to GPRS it stays connected for hours with no problems.
The only slight inconvenience is that to send an email the two connection methods (GPRS and Wi-Fi) have different SMTP requirements. I can't send emails through Orange's SMTP server while connected to a Wi-Fi network, and I can't send through my ISP's SMTP server (through my home Wi-Fi connection for example) when I'm connected to the internet with GPRS. But this isn't a limitation of Windows Mobile; my laptop is just the same. My solution was to set up my own SMTP server through which I can authenticate to send emails regardless of how my devices connect to the Internet.
mm... yes hadn't thought about the SMTP but I have experienced this before. It is a slight annoyance, but a necessary one I guess without setting up your own server.
I'm glad to heard of your good checking experiences with the email.
mmm.... i'm not a fan of buying contract and using contracts. I prefer to try to buy SIM FREE outright, and if possible Avail of a simplicity contract with vodafone, which only requires one month warning to leave.
The reason I choose Vodafone is because O2 block MSN messenger... and I'm unsure about skype (not that I use it a lot, but I don't like being TOLD by my network what I can and can't use.)
I have no idea about vodafone 3g hsdpa reception though, might have to look into it.
Yeh, I swap from northern ireland, to southern ireland frequently, and as I am currently looking for permanent work, I don't know exactly where I'll end up....thus, contracts are not suitable for me right now.
I did see the Touch HD in a swiss shop for about 469 sterling. think it was www.digitec.com
I've emailed them to see how much shipping would be.
