universal crashes on startup - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

hi, i have a interesting problem:
i tried to connect my i-mate with active-sync via usb, it didn´t work,(although it worked before) so i connected it via infrared. it connected and installed automatically the vito sound explorer, which still was in the install cue from active sync.
then active sync wanted to set a new partnership and told me to name it pocket pc 2 , because: "there is another partnership with another computer". i clicked on "next" in the dialogue and active sync 4.1 freezed. on the universal the install notification "vitosound successlully installed" freezed too.
when i restart the universal now, it hangs with the i-mate logo, with the softkeys "select" and "exit" in the lower panel and the normal today screen upper panel.
i don´t want to hard reset, because i have a lot of new dates and contacts, which aren´t synchronized...
can anybody help me?
greetings
phil
i have the newest i-mate version.

Active sync problem

My xda2 is stuck as a guest on my computer. it won't detect it anymore. it just logs on as guest. i've done everything i know, including reinstalling active sync, restarting computer, disconnecting cradle, deleted the previous partnership.
i opened the active sync program on the xda, it has 2 pc partnerships but both have the same computer id. anyone know a way out of this short of doing a hard reset which worked but onced i restored the back up, it went back to guest hence no synchronization with outlook.
tia.
Same problem
I'm having exactly the same problem.
When I uninstall ActiveSync and reinstall it, it synchronizes only once, then, again, I'm stuck as a guest.
can anyone help me with this? please
Unfortunately, no one seems to have an idea.
What I did (after I read your first message) is to make a hard reset then manually install the other programs.
Now, everything is fine (but still no idea about the problem)
if you dont want stay guest rename your ppc with a other name
I already tried this. Didn't work
This happens to me regularly. It seems to be a quirk of using my XDA II with 2 pcs.
Try deleting the partnership from the PC and recreating it. Should work fine. A hard reset is a bit drastic!
SMW1
If stuck on guest settings:
Kill ActiveSync on the PC using task manager
Take the XDA out of the cradle
Open ActiveSync on PC
Delete all partnerships
On the XDA go to Start -> Settings, System tab, tap ‘About’, Device ID tab and change the name to something else
Soft-reset the XDA
Place it in the cradle
Create a NEW partnership
That's it

Cannot sync Wizard with more than one computer

Ok, using Activesync 4.1 I sync'd my Wizard with my home computer. That went fine (amazingly enough). Now I try to sync it with my work computer and I can create the relationship between the wiz and the computer but AS wont let me sync any catagory that has already been sync'd on the home computer. IE: calendar, taks, notes.
Everytime I try to mark one of those catagories AS gives me an error message that states...
"You cannot synchronize Tasks (or Calendar) because it is already synchronizing with Windows PC. To enable Tasks for Windows PC 2, clear the Tasks check box for Windows PC and try again."
What the!?! This same set up worked fine with my previous PDA, and it let me sync between the 3 devices without a problem. Am I missing something? Any suggestions?
Weird. I sync with my PC at home and my workstation at work. Everything syncs with no problems at all. The good thing is that by labeling my appointments (with the color-coded labels), the home stuff shows in color & work stuff in white at home, and the opposite at work. Makes it easy to tell the difference.
Maybe the issue is operating system on the second machine? Try uninstalling AS4.1 on the second system after removing the partnership. Reinstall & try again. Whatcha got to lose?
I had the same problem when I first connected my new Wizard to my PC.
Actually the problem is not that a given Wizard cannot synchronize with more than one PC, but rather that AS does not allow you to synchronize a given PC with more than one PDA.
I suggest that you just delete the entry for you previous PDA (the one that's apparently named 'Windows PC').

Activesync and Outlook in Qtek S200-PROBLEM!!!

Hi everybody!
I have a problem with synchronizing my contacts, calendar, tasks etc. When I start Active sync, it synchronizes all the files (music, photos, etc) and programs but could not synchronize outlook!! I reinstalted several times Microsoft Outlook 2002 (which was on the getting started CD) but it doesn't help. When the synchronization is over, the following message appears, when I click on the Exchange message: "The server could not be reached. This can be caused by temporarly network conditions. Support code: 80072ee2"
On my PC, I use Outlook Express 6.0, maybe it's not compatibile with the MO 2002??
Also, I don't see any ikon of the MO 2002, I could not open it on my PC ( could not find it), but in the folder of Add/Delete programs is present (192 MB)!
The message on my device is: Exchange Server Synchronized: None.
I really don't have any idea what should I do to synchronize properly all the information.
Maybe someone of you had a similar problem and could share the experience.
I would be very grateful!!
Hi marbron!
First thing you need to do is sort out the Outlook installation on your PC. If you can not open it, it is not properly installed. Since you can't sync with express, you have to let Outlook 2002 replace it as your default mail program.
Second, when you created a partnership in ActiveSync, you must have chosen to sync with Exchange server directly (first V you get).
When device is not connected, go to File->Delete mobile device, then connect you device and create a new partnership. Make sure you uncheck 'Synchronize with Exchange server directly' on the first page.
Hope this helps.
I don't know why I still have problem with the Outlook. I delated the program and reinstaled it again, I delated the device on Active Sync and connected the device. The message was, that I could synchronize only files, music etc and not contacts, calendar, task because I don't have Outllook instaled...
During the set up wizard of Outllok there is a funny message, that the program will instal the following aplications: Microsoft Outlook 2002 and there is a red cross with (not available), but when I click:instal it does it properly only in one moment the system message appears: you don't have a disc inside, please insert disc (the disc is of course there!!). I have to click several times on continue and then the message disappears... Of course, again I can't find the program on my PC, only it appears on add/delate programs.
I really don't understand it. Maybe the version of Office that I have (Microsoft Office 2000 premium 9.0.2812) somehow creating a problem.... Or maybe the program on my official CD has problem (I don't think so, because Active Sync from the same CD is working ok)...
I really don't know what I should do.
Any ideas????
So, any idea?? Could somebody suggest me what should I do???
Please!!!
Same problem
I am having the exact same problem. I tried various fixes but nothing worked. I can't sync my PDA at all now. It used to work ok but starting 10 days ago it simply stopped. The only think I did was using the Internet Connection Sharing applet. After using this applet - no sync at all. And the Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) in Windows XP displays a stupid message; see atachment.
marbron: It sounds to me like your CD may be damaged or dirty so some parts of it (namely the ones with Outlook) are not readable.
Try cleaning it and the drive.
In any case you should also delete the partnership from PPC side before establishing a new one.
Innovative: Internet sharing disables ActiveSync but should restore it when deactivated.
Did you try to reset your device? If you are using an unofficial ROM this may be a bug and you may have to hard reset.
Also how are you using WMDC under XP? It was my understanding that thing is for Vista only.
Any way, try AS 4.5 and see if that works better for you.

ActiveSync keeps restarting on PPC. >>> FIXED <<<

I had a Cingular 8125 with NBD TouchFLO roms, but I ended up selling it so I could purchase a HTC Touch.
I posted this question in the ELF thread but nobody had an answer.
I thought I would post it here since the touch is a Pocket PC with WM6 installed and the Wizard thread is very active.
So, the problem I'm having is:
When I start up the HTC Touch, ActiveSync is running. I stop it, but sooner or later it will show up in the Tasks running again. I'll leave the HTC Touch alone for awhile, come back and ActiveSync is running again.
I did the ActiveSync Fake server Trick(Fake IP, Set schedules to Manual, etc..), but that didn't help.
I only had the HTC Touch for a couple of days. I haven't installed any programs. I even did a Hard Reset, but ActiveSync still runs.
Here is the Fix:
In the windows/activesync directory there is a file called “CtrlLog” file, in the file I noticed that at certain times it would say “KeepAwake” so I knew there had to be something trying to keep ActiveSync running.
I download an app called “Task Manager by FdcSoft”, cool little app for Free, it showed me all the processes running in the background. The one that caught my eye is a process called “repllog.exe”, because it had an ActiveSync icon next to it.
So just messing around with “Task Manager” I went to “Notifications” and noticed there were three “repllog.exe” in the notifications list towards the bottom. After disabling and enabling “repllog.exe” one by one, I believe the one that is causing ActiveSync to keep restarting itself is the “repllog.exe” that has an Argument named AppRunAfterTimeChange(must scroll to the right to see it). So I disabled that particular “repllog.exe” and did a Soft Reset.
I no longer see ActiveSync in the Task Manager list unless I connect to the PC using a USB cable.
NOTE: This procedure might not work for everyone. I have a HTC Touch with WM6.
Get Task Manager here: http://ppcfree.com/en/index.php?soft=1612

Good luck, I've had that same problem in WM5 and WM6 and noone seems to know why it's happening. I've just learned to deal with it and shut it back off when I notice it running. Having x-button installed helps since all you have to do is click the button at the top of the today screen and see what programs are running and then shut it off. You might also check your commanager and see if it has an activesync disable button and just disable activesync when you're not using it.
ActiveSync won't STOP re-starting itself on HTC Touch. >>>FIXED<<<
I no longer see ActiveSync in the Task Manager list unless I connect to the PC using a USB cable. No more restarting itself.
NOTE: This procedure might not work for everyone. I have a HTC Touch with WM6.
I edited my first post, the fix is there.

Thanks KidNovak, I'll have to try that one out.
The reason activesync turns on it self because it is made that way, for example if you have microsoft exchange configured and you want the phone to get email asap it arrives, there is no way for phone to ask mail server to send the email to phone if the activesync isnt running. Now if activesync is on and you are on exchange then activesync connects it self to server and look to see if there is new email or any changes. That is the reason activesync turns on. Microsoft is Dumb it should only activate activesync to start it self if you setup exchange but i guess its a big hassel for them. Therefore concluding the top, it is perfectly normal.
I've got a problem with activesync too, my Cingular 8125, with Faria's rom, don't syncronise with all the contacts and the calendar of my pc.
This worked for me, thanks!
Novak - you seem to be in the know
Could you tell me how to install that .exe file onto my htc touch? I have a mac computer. Do I just install the file onto the device and then click on it when it's on there? If so, does it then go into my programs list?
Disregard...think I got it working!
followed your guide word for word and your fix worked for me HTC Prophet thanks so much for this fix
thnks it is working but everytime i disconnect my 818pro from my pc i need to terminate the activesync from the process folder and restart again..
Totally worked! Qtek S200 with WM6.1

Anyone managed a sync with outlook2007?

I have Vista, and paired ok with my Touch Dual. But when I sync it looks successfull, but it deletes all contacts (and those on my sim!) Any suggestions. I have tried deleting the partnership and doing it again. Still no go!
I don't have that problem, but what are your sync rules?
sync:
pda < - > PC
pda - > PC
pda < - PC
...
The only options you have are if there are conflicts; either delete item on pc or delete item on device. Tried both.
Im having the same problem, I have found the whole syncing process under vista to be garbage.
When I first got the touch synced fine with outlook2007 then due to various problems with phone it had to be sent for repair when it came back it would no longer sync adn I had to format my pc and reinstall then it would sync. Teh phone went back for 'repair' (they just refalshed the rom) again as I was still getting problems and when it came back it wouldn't sync- it says its syncing and the progress bar goes up but it doesnt actually sync.
Try enabling/disabling the advanced network functionality (on your phone) from connections>usb to pc
Check your firewall settings
see if it will sync on an xp pc
had the same thing.
delete partnership - manage new partnership - define that pc overrides pda ... and since then it works ( even when i make a change on my pda it is synced to the pc ?!?!?! )
strange - but that's how ms active sync is since the beginning ;-)
