I know this is an old one but I had an interesting surprise just now when I upgraded by x50v to WM5. What with bloaty .tsks, extended rom and other crappola, my jasjar has about 30mb of rom (storage memory) free on a hard reset. The x50v, which has idetical memory specs (64Ram, 128Rom) has, wait for it, 90Mb free! yes! honeslty, the rom OS image on the x50v takes up about 38mb, ont he jas jar, along with all the additonal crap we don't really need, it takes up more like 80mb!!!
Imate/HTC really need to fix this. I would much rather have i slightly more minimal os (no ext rom, no virus scanner, no 4mb .tsk files!) and customise it myself than have 50mb of memory taken up unessecerily!

Hai guys!
Where do you have installed TomTOm 5 on your Jam?
I don't know if is better to install it on memory card, on RAM or on ROM....
Obviusly the maps on SD...
But the app?
I install everything on SD. (need to modify the registry to move the voice file to SD) So far so good.
can you indicated datail
I do install to the SD but it still intalled some files in main memory
I moved the files menually and modifiy the registry for the modified path
I installed all of it to the ROM (did the bigstorage rom hack), except for the maps which are on SD.
Install into RAM at all costs. Why? Because internal ROM and SD-Cards are way slower then internal RAM, youll slow down the speed of programs quite a lot. Using a Qtek S110 with 128MB RAM this is no problem at all but even on my old iPAQ 5450 with only 64MB RAM is was easily possible leaving 32MB for program exection.

I agree RAM is the fastest one but I don't think putting everything on SD has any noticeable performance hit to run TT5 at all (it does takes more time to load, that's it). In fact, I always run TT5 + IGuidiance 2.1 + BetaPlayer all at once without performance problem. I don't want to spend extra $$$ to upgrade to 128mb and I rather save more ram to run more programs by all the tricks. (I do manage to get 35-40 mb free with many programs installed)

Since we have to put the maps to SD anyway, I won't put the program to rom. Instead, I use my bigstorage for DLLs to save ram (by memmaid) and programs that still have to run even I need to swap the SD. Examples are:
1. Resco file explorer
2. betaplayer
3. Softick card export II.
4. Cyberon VoiceCommander (or MS Voicecommand)
5. Resco picture viewer

Real, dependable, up-to-date information on the available memory size of the most common HTC Wizard operating system versions
While trying to find a Wizard ROM version that makes it possible to run the
software-rendered version of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 by Aspyr Media (of
which I'll soon publish a quick review) on the HTC Wizard, I've thoroughly
scrutinized the free (dynamic) RAM/ROM size of all the known and recommended
ROM versions.
This information will be essential to anyone that wants to run
memory-intensive programs (mainly games) that require every single byte of
the memory.

My QTek 9100 with the latest AKU2 ROM has 24 MBs of RAM after loading after a clean boot, but a few hours later and after loading *and* closing completely some apps, it is down to 18 MBs of RAM. Ususally that's where I am at: at 18 MBs of free RAM.

Latest AKU2 ROM should grant you at least 26-27mb of ram. Try to avoid installing all the extrom crap after a hard reset (especially the antivirus if you're using latest imate rom).
bye

Depends heavily on how many programs you have installed and running in the background at startup. I have 24.6MB free RAM after booting, but with dozens of programs installed and several today plugins running (PocketBreeze, KabuToday, Egress, PocketWeather, tdlauncher, TimeToday) - I think you can't expect more than that! ;-) Before I switched to SBSH I had the SPB products installed and around 3-4MB less...
i know, but i though Eugenia was saying she's only 24mb after a hard reset (now i see she wrote 'clean boot' so maybe she was referring to a soft reset)
Bye
Hi,
I have all programs installed on 2GB miniSD card, and have 30MB in storage part of memory available, but have only 10MB free space available for programs (I'm running skype and some other big programs).
I'd like to redistribute space as I could in windows mobile 2003. Is it possible to do in WM5?
It's really anoying when iGo says it's not enougm memory available and I have to shut down some programs.
I asked a couple of times.
Got no convincing ansers. I hope some tech guru can find the solution!
I heard WM2005 handles the memory is a completely different way from WM 2003. So probably it is impossible.
Thanks
Saulo866
it varies between devices apparently. On my uk tmob vario it wont move at all, even using memaid  on my old ipaq however it worked fine
You can NOT use (static) flash ROM (say, a storage card) as dynamic (program) RAM because of the speed difference, which is in the order of orders of magnitude.
That is, you can NOT increase the program memory in your PDA in any way - except for sending it in for PPCTechs for a (costly) RAM upgrade. Sorry.
Hey Folks,
first of all, I like those new ROMs with Manila2D very much. Interface looks nice and is really good to use.
The thing that makes me think about going back to non-Manila ROM is the excessive RAM usage ... with Syrius R1 e.g. I got max. 35mb of free RAM directly after Installation. Compared to a udK Diamond R8 which I used for quiet a while ... running SPB Mobile Shell 2.1.2 + Cube and several other installed apps, gave me 45mb+ free RAM.
What's your RAM usage like with Manila2D? I don't know if it's in any way worth sacrificing 10MB+ of RAM just for the nice looks .... though anyway Mobile Shell looks very nice too, and has like thousands of Skins and mods available.
boba
Well thats the trade off you get. Manila 2d isnt THAT RAM intensive. So its up to you wether you use it or not.
I think Manila is GREAT and im more than happy to sacrifice ram. Nothing else compares to Manila.
If you want just a skin and cut down on Ram usage a little bit, try loading on Vito's Winterface or iFonz.
Other than that, just dont use Manila.
No answer to your question, just a other question of me.
Do you need the extra free program memory?
I never have a shortage in memory. I never checked the amout of free memory until I saw your post. I have 23 MB free program memory with a lot of programs active. I noticed there is only a total of 84 MB of program memory. I thought it should be 128 MB? As stated before, I never have any issues with a lack of memory.
Different ROMs have different amounts of free RAM available. There is a certain amount that can be reserved for other things, such as pagepool I believe, that take away from the total program memory available. This even happened in the wm6.1 official ROM, max memory available dropped.

If you want max free memory out of the ROM, like me try Bepe 0.67 rom. I disable the Biotouch.exe (a simple trick by renaming activesynkiller.exe to Biotouch.exe) And install Manila2D on my own -> use the beta 18 version.
And on fresh restart, I get 69MB free memory. After hours of usage, I still get 60MB free memory.
No answer but another question
IGO 6 & 8 not working while Manila is active, must disable the Manila and reset to launch IGO
if I minimize IGO and start Manila and return back to IGO it working with no problem
is it another memory problem or what ???
Let me first say, I'm pretty new to all this and i'm sorry for maybe asking stupid questions.
I have the German T-Mobile MDA III with Camera and I just recently updated it with one (I don't remember which, most wouldn't work) of helmi's wm6 releases.
My first questions are about the OS or this version:
After there seems to be no ram-disk anymore, and no possibility to decide, how much memory goes to programs and how much to storage, where's all the memory gone and how can anybody live with just 43mb storage, that's not enough for just my basic programs, because with office, tcpmp, spb pocketplus and spb online it's more than full and i hardly have space for emails, IE cache or rss cache, and even after uninstalling everything but tcpmp there's just free space of 11mb, is there a newer, maybe faster version out, with more storage space?
Another thing is: i installed helmi's htc home for wm5, the wm6 version wouldn't work (don't ask me why, i'm pretty new to all this) and i like it allthough spb mobile shell is pretty nice too, but not constantly on the today screen, are there other good "surfaces" i really like this touchflo cube, is there an easy-to-install version for blueangel?
my general point is, i want to update my system again, because the version i have is rather laggy (and slow, sometimes freezes, takes much space) on my device and i want some nice black surface, animated and finger-controlled, having photocontacts, an app-launcher and stuff like that.
Thanks in advance, and sorry again for my lousy english and my beeing a n00b.

in addition
in addition i would like to know whether the bluetooth and wi-fi bugs have been cancelled out, because i can hardly have wireless transfers?
wi-fi always switches off a second after being switched on, but sometimes, when i get it to work, it wouldn't connect to wpa APs, just open and wep s,
and regarding bluetooth, in wm2003se i got used to being able to configure BT properly, choose my devices name and have constant connections and stuff, there's hardly anything you can do in the config and transfers of files wouldn't work either way, in or out, as i can't properly pair up with normal mobiles

The 43 Mb of storage means that you did not unlock the Extended Rom in 2003 and/or you did not resize it. Go back to 2003SE and follow the instructions in the wiki on how to upgrade from 2003SE to the latest 2003SE release. Then, once you have unlocked and resized the ExtRom, you will have more storage for your BA and you can upgrade to either WM5 or WM6 (or 6.1)... your choice really.
As far as the memory slider, M$ got rid of that with the introduction of RamDisk (this is preset in the rom by the chef or you can change it by Hex editing your nbf before flashing) in WM5. Don't worry too much about it. If you flash your phone correctly, your storage should be as high as ~90 Mb.
Again, follow the instructions in the wiki (do not skip steps), and you should be ok.
thank you
thank you very much for the quick answer, but could you also give me the link to the latest fast working rom version, i tried downloading the sun_dream roms, but there is just an .nbf file and i don't know how to do that, is that uncompiled or anything, everything else i found already, and what do i have to do to resize the storage space in 2003se, as i may recall, i'm rather new to all this, and i can't flash from my computer, as for some strange reason, whenever i try flashing on vista, in the middle of it, the driver changes and the connection's gone, so i gotta do it from an xp machine, as this seems to be the easiest way to avoid the driver stupidity, vista brought
Just download any of xplode's roms and repalce the nbf with sun_dream's. For some reason, sun never puts the tools needed to upgrade with his roms. And you are right about Vista, it is a pain in the a*&. You are better off using an XP machine if you have access to it. Good luck!
