syncing prob!pls help!!! - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

when i try to sync via a retractable cable i get "usb device not recognized".i really am at a loss as to what to do.also when i charge thru the supplied charger, as soon as its fully charged i disconnect it from the charger and i need to do a softreset for me to be able to use the device.

does the pc you're syncing with have activesync installed? if so is it the latest version? Can you further explain what happens when you disconnect from the charger? What does the screen look like and what happens that you have to soft-reset?

yes activesync 3.8 is installed.i know this for a fact coz i can sync my xda iis.when i connect the mini to the retractable cable,it softresets and sort of stays in the splashscreen and doesnt bootup.it doesnt even charge while connected.when i use the charger i noticed that it charges but once the batt is full i disconnect it fromt he charger then i cant seem to send SMS and only a softreset solves that problem.

you seem fixated on the retractable cable. can you sync using the supplied USB cable? And is not being able to send sms the only indication that there's somethign "wrong" after disconnecting from charger? After disconnecting from the charger can you make a phone call? does the device operate at all? Try syncing with normal cable to see if it's not just your retractable cable.

xda charging unit

bougt a xda2 from ebay,
it works fine but is missing the chargeing unit at the bottom so i can not sync it with the cradle nor charge it, unless i take the battery out and charge it on its own in the cradle, is there any chance this can be fixed,
the actual clip inside is missing so i dont know wether it was soldered on or its a clip and can i get a replacement
any help will be appreciated
also ive tried to sync using bluetooth through active sync but it will not work is this because the initial set up requires the xda to be in the cradle??
Hi There,
I don't quite understand,
Are you saying you don't have the cradle or are you saying there is something wrong with your device?
Are you charging your battery on something other than a cradle?
There is 2 ways to charge an XDA2 in original form
1. Placing it in the cradle and turning the computer on and it charges through the USB. It will not charge if the PC is not turned on i.e. Powered up.
2. Plugging in the charger that connects directly to the machine and plugs into a 220V AC plug socket.
Can you give me a wee bit more info and I will help you out.
I have a spare cradle and a charger and if you need either we can talk business if you need them, but I won't sell you them if you don't need them.
What type of goof sellls an XDA2 without the ability to charge it? If he has ensure you give him some serious negative feedback!!!
Many Thanks
the xda is was bought with all leads and cradle,
i can onkly charge the xda battery in the cradle, as the where the unit sits in the xda that part is missing so it cannot be charged only the batt can be charged every time you wantto use it, i was told you can sync it with ifrared but i dint have infrared only bluetooth
hope that helps
BTW, You can sync with BlueTooth as well.
Are you saying the male plug in the cradle which slides into the female slot in base of the XDA II (when you insert the XDA II into the cradle) is missing?
Sounds like you need to replace the cradle.
A photo of your problem would help us understand.
Ed
I think it must be part of the pda thats missing, otherwise the usb cable would do the job.
the bit in the actual pda is missing and not from the cradle, so i cannot connect to it, i can connet via bluetooth but i cannot use active sync, i think i need to have usb / cradle connectivity intially for set up so i can later on active sync, as i want to load tom tom s/w on there and i cant
I got activesync working over bluetooth but I had to install bluetooth tools to do so, have you tried that?
treid that, but when i try to connect active sync does not see the bluetooth, it doesnt even have the option for bluetooth connectivity on infrered or usb

charing issues related to activesync?

When I plug in my JasJar to the USB cable on my PC it doesn't always start charing nor does active sync always recognzie it. If I soft reset the Jas Jar while I'm connected, upon boot up it will recognized by Active Sync and start charing. I tried plugging it into the USB to Wall charger and it works fine every time. Anyone else having this problem? Is it an(other) ActiveSync issue? I'm using ActiveSync version 4.0.0 (build 434) is there a better version?
Also while connected to active sync a lot of programs have trouble connecting to the internet, even if I have wifi and/or GPRS on... Is there a workaround for this?
in my case when I charge my jasjar using pc usb connection the charge velocity is very slow. I have to charge it directly to AC.and my jasjar eats the battery in few ours if its connected using UMTS althought I am not surfing web and I don't use the phone

USB Sync & Charge? Is it possible via USB Port?

I just bought my JJ and haven't put my hands on it. So pardon my ignorance, but can it be charged via its mini USB slot? The reason I ask is because I saw many sites advertising Lil'Sync cables for charge & sync. When looking closer I noticed that had a PDA2K type connector on one end and a regular USB on the other?
Any comments?
Cheers
Hi
The USB port is the *only* way of charging the JasJar!! Unless you buy a dock that charges a second battery as well I suppose.
Nigel
In other word's, you DO recharge the battery when you sync the Universal!
I can tell you with full confidence thhat the device charges when you plug it into your computer with the USB cable as I have had mine for nearly a week now and I still haven't taken the charger out of the box(!)

yeh it does charge through my USB from my pc, getting it to sync is another ballache that I still can't work out.
I sync with my PC via Bluetooth, it's so convenient. Never used the cable since XDA IIs +IIi and never have any problems with BT syncing whatsoever.

HTC cradle - is there a way to connect charger and sync cable?

I got the HTC cradle today and I was a bit disappointed to see that you need to have the cradle connected to a PC to have it charge and sync. You cannot connect the charger and the sync cable at the same time... is there a way to do it? I just want to be able to put the Pro in the charger in the evening and if my pc is on, sync at the same time
So what's the problem with that? Just connect the charger to your computer and it will charge, and it will sync if your computer is enabled...

It will not charge if my computer is turned off...
Use one of your onboard usb port which are always on (even when the pc is off). And if don't have one, you should get a new motherboard which supports that feature
USB hub with external power supply?
You could try the HTC Multifunction Audio Cable YC A200 or HTC Multifunction Audio Cable YC A300.
I ordered this same one instead of Kidigi model found on Brando. Figured I would just unplug sync cable and plug in AC adaptor that I keep on night stand?
Guys if you have a desktop PC chances are the usb ports are powered even when the pc is off. You can also check for this setting in the motherboard BIOS.

this is how i charge mine and sync with a desktop in my room. Laptop USB ports aren't powered on when the machine is off, though.
I have two laptops... The USB ports stay on when the laptops are in standby mode. If the phone doesn't charge, plug it in before closing the laptop lid (standby).

2 possibilities - if your wire has 2 cables, then one is for charging and one is for data.
the other option is that you have to terminate your relationship with the phone and establish a new one. if this is possible, then likely you will be asked wehther to delete sync files between the two or not. you may choose not to delete.
hope this helps.

This has NOTHING to do with charging.
Yes, check you didnt tick the box "do not charge when connected to a PC" in the power options.
If your battery is sufficiently depleted them the low output from your USB port may be too low to start the charging process.
Attempt the charge from wall charger and then try not to let the battery drain too much.
It is also posible that the power output from your USB port on your PC is defective, Usualy there is a fuse somewhere mounted on the mainbord and looks like a resistor. You can easy check this by using an other PC and connect the phone to that one. You don't need to intsall the ActiveSync on that PC to check. When that one is charging your batery..... Well you know.....
Oh, there is an other posible selution. Turn on your PC Joking
Are you plugging your phone into an external usb hub or directly into a usb port on the back of your computer?
I recently upgraded from an old tmo Wing and it would charge just fine off a port on my external usb hub. When I plugged my HD2 into the same port, it would not charge. If I connect my HD2 directly into the back of my computer, it charges just fine.
I'll be looking for differrent hub that provides more power and will allow for better charging.
if you POWER OFF the phone and it dose charge (orange led should appear near earpiece)
then your pc's usb and your usb cable are fine.
to fix,
go to 'SETTINGS'
and then at the bottom tap on 'ABOUT PHONE'
then tap on BATTERY'
then 'un-tick' the box that says "When the phone is on, do not charge the battery when connected to a PC"
USB Debugging mode might be on. I rooted my phone and forgot to uncheck that box and once I did, it started charging again.
