I know O2 do not officially offer PAYG on the Exec, but is it technically possible? If I insert a PAYG Sim into the Exec, will it function as a PAYG phone should?
Just tried with an old O2 payg sim. works fine - only thing I can't check is 3G as i've got poor to bad coverage here.
Incidentally you can get the XDA exec on a relatively cheap monthly deal from O2's online shop. All I'd say is that if you're planning to use 3G data a lot, check T-Mobile's web n walk tariff instead. Probably been covered on this board though!
i asked today at an o2 store...
no internet in payg exept wap and active...
supposed to have 3g but i havent seen anything since i put my o2 sim inside....where voda payg has almost everywere 3g and i could download from the net..strange. what i cannot setup is my mms settings with voda sim. how about you?
i am in uk.

Just thought i'd put my Orange SIM into my JJ and it works fine, no questions asked, even tho i got it on a Vodafone contract, so no locks whatsoever on a imate JJ.

I do not believe vodafone are anywhere near packaging a Universal with vodafone software. I asked the question a few weeks ago and they had no knowledge of this device.
The jasjar is distributed by i-mate as an unlocked device that can work on any network, hence mobile resellers can sell it with a voda contract.
Of course whatever sim u use, u will need to set-up GPRS for that network to access the internet.
Cheers, Numb
The JasJar is always sim free...
I think that the JasJar is always sim free no matter what network you may have bought it on.
Hi,
I am going on a trip to Florida in August and would like to know what is the best way to get low cost calls and GPRS access. I plan to either use Opera as my main browser or use the EXEC as a modem for my laptop.
I have looked at some options but was not sure whether they will work.
1. Buy a T Mobile Sidekick sim card from a US ebay seller and get GPRS for $1 a day
2. But a T Mobile SPeal Easy Sim card from a us ebay seller and get unlimited GPRS (wap only?)
But will it work with my exec and are there other ways?
If you're currently with a data package from O2, UK, you may find there is no additional cost for using GPRS abroad, i.e., no roaming fee for data connection. This was at least the case when I was travelling in China using Exec with the O2 SIM card. Of course the roaming price for voice calls is however unacceptably high.
I got myself a payg sim to use in my tytn thinking that I would have access to HSDPA; however I found the following article about having to enable HSDPA on your T-Mobile SIM to take advantage and only then it looks like contract.

Does anyone else have experience with a T-Mobile PAYG sim and do you have HSDPA enabled?
I've got one and it worked on HSDPA straight out of the box.

Well I got a Vario II and WnW pro and was getting .3Mbps until I phoned them. The girl on support was trying to get a techie but couldn't and said she would try to get hold of someone and call back. The next time I tried a speedtest an hour or so later I got 1.1Mbps.
yeah i just realied te hsdpa service wasnt added on my vario II line either.... ( i hope they activate it by default on new connects, mines been through a few price plan changes in the last few months )
getting onto it now though,
does anyone know if thats good for PAYG as well? I presume everyone below is talking about contract.

Mine was a new contract - so not always it seems.
My post above was not clear. My Tmobile payg card works with HSDPA without having to get get anything switched on.

I found out today from T-Mobile Cutomer Rep (and confirmed in Store) that T-mobile PAYG cutomers are not connected to the HSDPC network, thats for contract only though payg can access standard 3g services.
Hi, just sold my crappy iphone & now back with an xda 2 orbit.
I have a pay&go sim with a £7.50 bolt on for unlimited internet so I can use my skype over gprs 3G but I cannot connect, when i try to load o2 user settings i only have in the drop down list post pay uk gprs not prepay uk gprs.
I have tried the ireland pre pay gprs & Isle of man pre pay gprs but none work?
o2 are telling me because i dont have uk prepay gprs i cannot access the internet & need to go on a contract Mmm.
Does anyone have the settings or are o2 trying to get money out of me by signing up to a contract.
Hello,

i see o2 have payandgo iphone 3g's out. (at least in the UK)
can we get payandgo 3G on other devices yet?
anyone?????????????
I was wondering this a few months ago when I saw the 3g iphone announced on payg. Looking around their website it doesn't look like they offer it with other devices or sim only.
One person I saw posted on here that he was using payg sim from a usb dongle from 3. He just bought the dongle, took the sim out and stuck it in his phone.
Looking at the prices of iphones on ebay, you could probably buy the o2 payg iphone, keep the sim for yourself, and unlock and sell the phone, at hardly any cost to you.
i left o2 payandgo and moved to three and when i phoned them to ask for the code to get my number transfured they asked why i sed because u dont support 3g on payandgo and they told me they would send me a 3g payandgo sim. dont know if that helps but as i had already bought the 3 sim i didnt bother stopping on o2
you can 3g on o2 payg easily (and have been able to for a while). call them on the free number, ask to speak to someone at the call centre and then tell them you want to upgrade to 3g. they will send you a replacement sim in the post in a few days....free of charge .
ive been using o2 payg with hsdpa on for a few months now
thankyou very much for the posts
i'll try ringing them!
