JasJar on Vodafone Contract works with Orange Sim in it - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Just thought i'd put my Orange SIM into my JJ and it works fine, no questions asked, even tho i got it on a Vodafone contract, so no locks whatsoever on a imate JJ.

re
I do not believe vodafone are anywhere near packaging a Universal with vodafone software. I asked the question a few weeks ago and they had no knowledge of this device.
The jasjar is distributed by i-mate as an unlocked device that can work on any network, hence mobile resellers can sell it with a voda contract.
Of course whatever sim u use, u will need to set-up GPRS for that network to access the internet.
Cheers, Numb

The JasJar is always sim free...
I think that the JasJar is always sim free no matter what network you may have bought it on.

Access to 3G Network (vodafone)

Hi, I have been watching with keen interest the development of the Universal. I had the original XDA and the XDA2 but have been waiting for this 3G device before I upgrade.
I have one on back order, but not with Expansys. I have been watching Expansys wondering if I should get one through them instead of waiting however when I phoned them for some technical info about 3G networks the sales individual did not know anything about the "UK networks"!!!
So, does anyone know if you can take an unlocked, uncofigured, JasJar (such as those being sold on Expansys) and just configure the settings for 3G, or is it far more complicated than that.
I am sure I read somewhere that 3G settings need to be configured by the network, unlike GPRS which I have easily configured for my voda sim card in my xdas.
Well if it can be configured, anyone know the settings for the JasJar to use vodafone 3G ??
Cheers, Numb
jasjar on vodafone
just got my jasjar today, put in my normal sim which was purchased already on the normal 2g network and it not only came up ok but came up on vodafones 3g network with no problems what so ever.
talking to vodafone they also told me that for instance my 3g sim from my datacard which is not even on a voice contract would work though of course as i have no free minutes i would get charged at normal network rates for voice calls.

re
n1, thats good to hear. But did u have to configure any settings for 3G ? or was the phone already configured, and if it was already configured it who by, Expansys ?
If they are unlocked presumably you have to configure it to your chosen network ?
Thx fer the reply tho, can't wait to get mine now, you lucky devil.
Cheers, Numb
to make a long stiry short: settings for gprs and umts/3g are the same, no need to change anything, if you have your vodafone gprs set you are ready to use 3g as well.
cheers, lutz
re
 n1 lutzh that is what I was after. Keeping my fingers crossed for early next week. Otherwise I may to try a different distributer.
Thx again for the heads up.

O2 PAYG on XDA Exec?

I know O2 do not officially offer PAYG on the Exec, but is it technically possible? If I insert a PAYG Sim into the Exec, will it function as a PAYG phone should?
Just tried with an old O2 payg sim. works fine - only thing I can't check is 3G as i've got poor to bad coverage here.
Incidentally you can get the XDA exec on a relatively cheap monthly deal from O2's online shop. All I'd say is that if you're planning to use 3G data a lot, check T-Mobile's web n walk tariff instead. Probably been covered on this board though!
i asked today at an o2 store...
no internet in payg exept wap and active...
supposed to have 3g but i havent seen anything since i put my o2 sim inside....where voda payg has almost everywere 3g and i could download from the net..strange. what i cannot setup is my mms settings with voda sim. how about you?
i am in uk.

Unlocked XDA Mini S from O2

 I bought the mini s yesterday from O2 and the salesperson stated that its not network locked. I didnt believe at first but when i tried it with the other network sim, and she is correct  . It is really unlocked! Now I slimply swapped the sims from my phone. I need a smaller one when I go out to the pubs.
The only downside i noticed is that not all my programs and games works in this new OS.
Indeed
:
All O2 contract phones are now unlocked
After buying my wizard, I installed a pre-paid sim card and am totally happy. (Debitel-light on the E-plus network)

M5000 unlocked, but doesn't accept o2 sim, why?????????????

My M5000 has been unlocked by the code which orange provided.
it doesn't accept O2 sim cards. it shows 'no service'.(I have tried two o2 sim cards, same problem).
However, I tried vodafone, orange and 3 sim cards. all are working perfectly on it.
Why is only o2 not?
why???????????????
any ideas?
Thank you very much.
hm crazy idea: There is no O2 net reachable. thats the only reason i could think of.
Re: M5000 unlocked, but doesn't accept o2 sim, why??????????
Do those O2 sims work in other devices, apart from the exec and the original phone they were in?
Just a though..... type of SIM perhaps?
AFAIK O2 only permit access to their 3G network with a USIM.
Voda permit any SIM to access their 3G network
3 only have USIMs
So maybe it's a GSM O2 SIM in a phone that's looking for a 3G signal?
Try the following:
Phone -> Settings -> Band -> Select your network type = Auto (or GSM if Auto does not work). Also ensure that GSM Band is set to EGSM+DCS1800
Cheers, Mark.
the sim cards I used are all working on normal phone.
and I have tried changing setting. it doesn't help anything.
I really don't know why.
So the O2 SIMs don't work even if you have Network Type set to GSM?
Cheers, Mark

Doubt it. IMEI's have to be specifically, individually blocked, they can't block a range of numbers and all use the same database in Dublin, so blocked by one = blocked by all UK providors.

M5000 Unlocked
Hi,
I got my M5000 unlocked from Orange for the O2 Sim (PAYG) and it worked fine. It's not 3G just normal GPRS connection.
What does it say when you reset the device? I'm running a ghost dual simcard with Orange/O2 and sim switcher software. The software recognises Orange but says "Invalid Sim" for O2, but it still works.
Get back onto Orange, you did pay them £20 for a service :?

I have tried even hard reset, it still didn't accept o2 card.
Do you mean it must run o2 with sim switcher software?
Where can I get such software?
Cheers

Bumping it just under 12 hours later is rude IMO. Don't.

How do you make to unlock the SPV M500 for use with all providers ? Is there any tools to unlock the M5000 ?
I didn't find or I didn't understand how to make this :?
M5000 Unlock
Hi all,
Sorry for the delay, been off line a couple of days.
First of all marquis the phone should work on all networks without the sim changing software, the software just saves you from reseting the phone everytime you need to change networks. I got the software from www.wivit.com and it's called "Sim Status Switcher" works great.
One thing I remember from orange saying when I got my phone unlocked was that you had to insert the other network sim and only had one chance at entering the code.
Lonlyboy2003, the number for Orange UK customer services is 00447802092150, I don't know if they'll be able to help as you need to be a registed customer and have a contract with them, but it's worth a go!
trmkwm, you need to phone Orange and for £20 GBP they will send you an unlock code for your phone.
Hope that helps

Do I need a 3g usim card for 3g on a m3100?

Hi All
I have just ordered a orange spv m3100 to be used unlocked on t-mobile. I just phoned up t-mobile to ask if i need a new sim to use in a 3g phone, but the woman i spoke to seemed to think that there is no such thing as a 3g sim, is this correct?
Will my old sim from my wizzard work in the m3100 and will i get 3g?
Thanks
you can use a 2g sim in the m3100 but you wouldnt be able to get any 3g services out of it.
best thing to do is just pop your sim into it and it will tell you if you have a 3g signal.
hope this helps
thats what i thought, thanks. i will have to phone up t-mobile again and explain i want a 3g sim.
have you asked to receive the m3100 unlocked or are you having it unlocked after you get it?
as far as i'm aware the m3100 comes locked to orange as standard so you won't be able to use a t-mobile sim...
I've spoke to T-mobile previously about 3g services and they've told me that the chip that I got off them (Bought a MDA vario) would be able to use 3g.
I popped it into my Nokia N70 and it worked a treat.
So, you might not need a different type of Sim card
nice tread i was literally going to ask this exact sme question. i just posted in another thread, asking almost the same thing, only i'm getting a new contract on t-mob and extending my misses contracting then gonna pay for them to both be unlocked and then swap the sims,
hope they send me a 3G sim
Strangely enough, I've ordered a Orange SPV 3100 today and depending on if I like it I'm going to get it unlocked and use my t-mobile chip with it.
Don't fancy paying £20 to get it unlocked to test though, So if anyone can get me a free unlocking solution by tomorrow, that would be appreciated
Even T-Mobile pay as you go sim cards seem to be fine for 3g data - just not enabled for video calling.
My vodafone sim card is a standard one, I haven't changed it in 3 or 4 years and 3g works fine.
thanks for the replys guys, this is all sounding good
I have a mate who had a MDA Vario. He bought an unbranded TyTN and asked me what he had to do to get the internet working.
I said call T and ask for 1) 3g sim 2) connection settings.
He called T and they said he didn't need a 3g sim... I have to say I though they were talking bollocks. So he popped his old sim in and we had a video call - no problems at all.
So you may be ok...
It depends on when you got your device/SIM. If bought over the last year it should be OK, if the SP supports 3G anyway. Older SIMs may need to be replaced.
So...the networks have been shipping USims instead of Sims....interesting. I didn't know that.
Quite useful to know.
thats very interesting, although I have had my sim for some time so not sure if it is a usim. Mine came with my Magician just over a year and a half ago. When I got my wizzard, I just swpped the sim over.
My M3100 should be here today, so I will test it and see what happens.
I dont think there will be a free unlocking tool for a few weeks at least, so Im just going to pay the £20 and get the code.

My voda sim is a sim (not a usim) and is about 3 years old and has worked in every voda 3g phone I've tried it in (v980, 6680, sharp 902, sharp 903, v3x and xda exec).
Gives 1.2mb on hsdpa.
I just had to ask for it to be enabled when voda launched 3g.
