SPB Pocket Plus Problems & Solutions..... - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Firstly, id like to say that ive had my exec for a little over a week now and think that it is awesome. Think my girlfriend is going to dis-own me :?
Searched the net for info on this problems with no luc for hours. Plus tried all the usual (Install, Uninstall, Reset, Hard Reset, Hammer!!! )
SPB Pocket Plus Problems I Had: -
Indicators do not change on theme change. (Grrr!)
Cycle theme button not working properly.
Cycle theme then change theme in today and crashes.
 SPBsoftwarehouse are now aware of these problems and are attempting to make a fix. Frustrating as forked the cash out thinking i was getting a nice WM5.0 app that would not have these kind of blatent bugs. :x
The reply i got from SPB is as follows: -
Dear Thor,
There are some challenges with themes on WM5 devices.
When you choose theme through today setting indicators doesn't change.
And if you change theme using theme loop button, taskbar and command
bar doesn't changes. We are working on this. Now you can't first choose
theme through theme loop. Then switch to some other and back using theme
settings. We will try to find how to fix this in following releases.

I have found a way to manually change the indicator icons by looking in the \windows directory where i placed the extended themes, then copy all file with a prefix of pls_ to \Program Files\PocketPlus\default. Then remove vga_pls... files from here. Then add vga_ to the beginning of the pls_ files you just copied in eg pls_backlight.gif to vga_pls_backlight.gif.
After resetting, you will now see the new indicators appear.... wooohoo.
If anyone has found a better way, please let us know...
Peace and out, Thor...

O2 User Interface

Hi,
I have a sim-free XDA II which as it happens is on 02. How can I get rid of that User Interface though - I really hate it, and want to remove it?
Can anybody help please?
Thanks
Rich
goto ad remove programs and remove anything o2 related, then soft reset. Change the dialer skin then all your left with is the boot screens and the o2 logo on the case
I'd recommend chaning the dialer skin back to the default before uninstalling o2 active; there are some images stored in dlls that are difficult to find, but can be changed via the phone skinning applet in o2 active.
The correct order (IMHO that is), is as follows...
1 - Firstly, while you still have the Active interface, use the menu item on the navigation bar, I think it might be listed as 'view' to go in and change the dialler skin to the default one.
2 - Then soft reset.
3 - Next up, now go into File Explorer on either the phone, or via ActiveSync, and go to the Windows/Startup folder, and delete the shortcut for "Active"
4 - Reboot again, to get the phone to load without Active running.
5 - Go into Settings > System > Remove Programs, and remove the Active app, the V2R stff, and O2 Xmail if you never use it. You will get warnings that some files or folders still remain - no problem, this gets resolved later...
6 - Another soft reset.
7 - Now, go into File Explorer again, to the Windows Folder itself, and delete the folder for the V2R stuff.
8 - Change your Today theme to something better looking, do a re-boot, and voila...
If I have missed anything that I think of, I will come back and editt this post, but that's it for now...
EDIT - even if you change the dialler skin back to default before removing the O2 stuff, you will find a strange quirk with the talk/end button, whereby even with the default skin, after ending a call, the old flat red O2 style button will display.
This can be resolved by downloading the XDA Phone Skin Chooser application available from DesignLab (do a google), and then setting the skin to use (even though you might already be using it) to the Default Skin, and then resetting the device. This is the only way I have encountered, other than hard fiddling with hard to find .dll's, to get ALL the buttons to use the default skin, and thus have a proper 'pressed in' appearance when touched.

Better than just uninstalling it?
Will removing it in this way stop all o2 related programs reinstalling after a hard reset?
Not sure. I've never tried to uninstall everything.

No, not by a long shot.
As the installation files etc, are stored in 'hidden' extended rom, and all a Hard Reset does is clear your phone, and then set about running and installing any files in the extended rom.
To remove it so that it is not installed after hard reset, is kind of achievable, but only if you know what you are doing.
You would have to use the Extended Rom Unlock tool on this site, to unhide and unlock your extended ROM, then you would have to remove any of the CAB install files from this folder for the O2 stuff you don't want (and its up to you to know what's what).
And then you would need to edit the config.txt file that 'calls' all of these installation routines, so that it no longer references any that you have deleted.
Then you could lock and hide the extended rom.
Thus, on a hard reset then, only the stuff you have left gets installed.

WM5 Themes "Origami Suite" (ROM 2.17 or higher)

Have you ever taken a look at the gallery section over on www.origamiproject.com ? It's filled with a bunch of pretty nice-looking wallpapers for UMPCs, but UMPCs aren't available until much later, rendering these small wallpapers useless... until now. I've picked ten different images from that gallery and customized themes for each of them (creating eleven themes total). I also enhanced the themes to fit in with a somewhat universal layout for the today screen.
Keep in mind that these themes are designed for Wizard users with the latest Qtek ROM (2.17 or higher) installed! The reason I say this is because the date on the today screen takes up two lines in the newer ROM, and the today screen background reflects the position of the date bar. If you're confused, take a look at the previews below, you'll see what I mean.
Anyway, as I was saying before, each theme has carefully selected colors to best match their backgrounds, and all of them work in both portrait and landscape mode. I tried my hardest to smooth out the gradients that sometimes give problems on PPC screens. Oh, and I also thought of a cheezy name for each one. The previews along with a ZIP of all the themes are attached to this post, so go crazy. And if you haven't updated to the latest ROM yet, shame on you. Go do it, you won't regret it.
P.S. - If anybody knows how to skin the Phone screen (where you dial the number and everything), PLEASE let me know. It really, really clashes with a lot of these themes...
AND... if anybody knows how to make the date take up only one line, move the clock to the top, and put the battery back at the bottom, that would be amazing. That way I could re-make all these themes so that they could work with EVERYBODY that has a WM5 device!
very nice. just applied the first theme on my exec
Great job with the themes! I hope you are able to find out about skinning the phone screen and reducing the Date Bar to one line.
Beautiful yanathin! Thanks for putting the effort into these great themes.
very clean look you have going on there.
Are those icons along the bottom just regular shortcuts? If so I'm gonna have to look into how to do that myself.
great work!
Thanks for the compliments everybody! Yes, the bottom basically acts like SBSH iLauncher or SPB Pocket Plus's launcher. It's a single part of the PHM PowerToys ( http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/PowerToys/ ) called "TrayLaunch." You'd be utterly amazed at how fast this device runs WITHOUT SPB Pocket Plus installed, even without a "real" close button.
Amazing themes and even better work yanathin!!
Yes great work !
Thanks
Really nice ones, allready installed, thx !
change background dialpad
I haven't found a way to change the keys of the dialpad yet but i have a simple way to change the background of your dialpad in combination with plain darkgrey keys:
Download the attached file and run it on your mobile to get the darkgrey "keys" from Vodafone, these keys match best with whatever background you want to use:
(file is also at: ftp://xda:[email protected]/Wizard/Misc/Vodafone_dialpad.zip)
Next you create in MS Paint / Photoshop or whatever program you like, two BMP image files with the following properties, you can use any file as background.
- name: "Bkgnd_Port.bmp" / resolution: 240x268 pixels (portrait)
- name: "Bkgnd_Land.bmp" / resolution: 320x188 pixels (landscape)
Copy these files to the \windows folder on your mobile and overwrite the existing vodafone skin.
After a soft-reset your dialpad has changed!
I changed mine to plain gray:
I love those themes!
for dialpad skins, take a look at http://www.zombienexus.net/

As far as i know it's a cab from German Vodafone. It works perfectly with my Dutch NL ROM, therefor i think it should also work with a WWE ROM because it just gets the language of the ROM-version.

TyTn Annoyance!!!

I am trying to remove the bottom bar that is normally removed by deleting wifiinit.lnk and init_tray.lnk from startup...problem is they arent in startup. And when looking at the remove programs list there are no programs. Any suggestions?
Tell us what you have in windows\startup and post copies of the link files if possible, then some bright spark in the forum may be able to work it out for you

Looks like all the usual links have gone now except poutlook - which many say can be deleted anyhow. They must be using another initiation method - have you checked \windows to see if you have init_tray.exe if you have try a trick i use with clear storage. Make a text file with any text in does not matter - save as init_tray.txt then rename to init_tray.exe and paste it into windows using total commander. Result init_tray.exe will not work. Works with clearstorage.exe and I get no error message. If you do get an error message replace with an exe that does nothing - I hope you get my drift
EDIT Possibly you could replace it with dcinobar.exe or inclose mobile.exe i.e. rename the exe's and then remove the startup link to the app as this app will be started instead of init_tray.exe
Actually I thought of something similar to that already, but guess what... no init_tray.lnk or .exe and no wifiinit.lnk or .exe anywhere on the device according to resco explorer search. Thank you for the great idea though. Do you or anyone else have any other ideas?
Maybe something to do with it?

You are awesome! Do you have a TyTn or is that for other phones also?
Just received my TyTN today.
The first thing I did was figure out how to get rid of those tray icons!
Actually, if you look at the following post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=41968) you will find many hacks that are not restricted to the Universal but work on all WM5 machines, inluding the TyTN. I am using a few of the myself on my TyTN
i'm about 200 to $250 short from getting one feel free to donate! I go to This ebay posting every day and just DROOOL over it... again, donations welcome..
better yet, i got a deal! For the amount of that device with shipping which is $779 + $29.99 which comes out to $829.99, (lets just make it $830 flat) I'll throw in my working wizard which has 2 scruffs on the front(comes complete with box, i-mate warranty, headset, case.. basicly everything in the box except the extra stylus), a wizard with a damaged screen, an xbox 360 premium. (just the xbox360 itself, no power supply, no hard drive, no controller (i'll give u a couple demo discs)) AND.... a like new Sony PSP with like 3 or 4 games (i maybe played the thing 10 times since i bought it, its been nesting in its oem case for god knows how long.)
PM me if you'll take me up on that offer

Intellisync 7.0 and Tytn
Hi,
Since I've installed this new version of this software I've been using for a long time now each time I soft reset my device I got stuck on the windows mobile blue background. I can get pass it!!!
Now the good news is via activsync I can still connect to my device and explore it. I can also remove the software (intellisync) and this will let me regain access to my device.
The problem is I can't live without Intellisync so I end up reinstalling it evrytime.
The problem is link (I guess) to the security screen which replaces the default winm 5 one.
Questions :
1 where can I find a step-by-step description of the boot process ?
2 What is the name of the security app object ?
3 Who could help ???
Many Thanks
REMOVE bottom tray on 8525 (mobile 5)
I seen lots of articles about how to remove or turn off bottom tray, but none work. I have similar problem as this user: No intTRay of anykind is found, my startup folder contents are similar to his. I've removed the individual icons like battery, etc, but I need to get rid of the animated today icon, the the Animated Today program puts on the tray, so the tray will disappear...
any ideas?
I may be wrong but the last time I checked, the 8525(TyTN) is not a Wizard.

Re's Launcher & Slider Fix

I've been looking around, but did not find any fix for Re's launcher and slider. The original executable files we're using the system time (i.e. Greenwich meridean time) for the clock. So if your country is not located at 0.00 hours, the time will be all whacked out.
So I had to do it on my own! Here is the "fixed" executable files using Local time instead. I did not do any other modification. This is not my program and do not take credit for any of it, I just changed the time.
Get the complete files from here http://rychlicki.net/en/2007/04/01/174/
Then replace the executable files with mine. Hope you enjoy!
It works. I only have to do the WM2003 regfix and change most of the links
Can't find the options using PHM regeditor
Note : WM2003 manual workaround
2. Create string key "Current Operator Name" and provide your operator name
3. Create dword key "Signal Strength Raw" and give decimal value "100"
This will show the operator name you provided and signal strenght always 100%

you did a great job with this theme... especially the dialer... it has its quirks and bugs i wish i knew how to fix (on the dialer)... and as for the theme, its perfect and very detailed to the t, but is very bulky and slowly responsive on my device. once everything is in memory it is pretty quick, but once you slide to landscape or power the backlight off... the memory will reset itself. (which is a problem with wad) but that isnt your fault wad2 will fix this! i have a lot of memory to spare on my kaiser... and once we get these missing drivers, im sure this theme would be a lot faster, but thats a whole new rant on its own...

Wad - wisebar advance?
Seeing the questions you have are all similar I'll answer as one.The main basis for my theme is Wisbar Advance 3 and Wisbar Advance Desktop. If you do not Have or know about these go to http://www.lakeridgesoftware.com/download.php and all the relative Information is there.
As for my Theme It is easy to Install Thw Wad just needs to be extracted from the Mobile Vista.rar and the two folders Mobile Vista Portrait and Mobile Vista Landscape placed on your mobile in Themes/Desktop , that is if you have the WAD program. Then just select from Theme Manger.
All the other items are self installing Cab's or Extractable rar's and only need to go into there respective folders ie: Mobile Vista Wmp11 into the folder Windows Media Player etc
I hope this has helped
its wisbar advance desktop theme but its big. U can reduce it to 50 % because most of the background (wallpaper) is in .PNG format and u can change them to JPEG and that will reduce the size and also some .TGA (backgrounds) files are doubled and actually u can use onle one so delete if u find them i have reduced mine to 50% of the total size of this theme !!!

If I understand the Question, there are no special needs they can be used on any windows mobile pocket pc pr phone addition. 2003se, mobile5 and mobile6. It's probably better with a newer modile as they usually have more memory.
Thanks for the great theme work. After a few times making the theme FUBAR'd and reloading it, I finally figured out how to customize it! I even added pages and plugins. Once it's finaly setup the way you want it, make sure you copy the theme directories to a safe location, because its a pain to customize in both portrait and then landscape, hours and even days of work can be lost in a snap. Here are some screen shots to give you some ideas:
The blue bar next to the start button is actaully a signal meter, it helps to know if you can make a call or not.
A few more screens:
The last one here is a page of spb today plugins; "Pocket Plus" "Phone Suite" (as a plus tab) and "Time".
Last one, used the included "weather page" and and customized it using "spb weather" today plugin, with some custom logos/text:
I would like to see an update to the dialer if possible, the "talk" button needs redial behavior added, right now it does nothing. If I can learn how to fix it, I'll post it if thats ok. It also needs the more white top raised above the buttons, for a better appearance, in my opinion. Thanks again for all the GREAT work, I know you put alot of time into this!

Click to collapse
Hope this helps.
PS. Using on AT&T Tilt, WM6 Professional
Sorry another P.S.
Disable any screen savers, especially "Spb Time" if you have it, the screen saver won't apear over this theme, until you try to answer a call, and then it can possibly lock up the phone requiring a reset. Do you really need a screensaver anyway, if its not in use, shut down the screen and save the battery
