Hi,
I'm using ActiveSync 4.0 to try to sync my iMate K-Jam (WM 5) with my IBM T40p laptop. Each time it connects, I get up getting the Blue Screen of Death while trying to connect. I have successfully connected a WM 2003 device (iMate Jam) to my laptop with AS 4.0, but my WM 5 device will crash my computer all the time.
I'm using Windows XP SP2 and have ensured that the firewall is off and the Anti-virus is disabled. I have tried it on the same machine with Windows XP SP1 before I reformatted the HD and re-installed Windows XP(but this time with SP2). I can however get it to work on another machine but try as I might it will not work with my laptop.
I've dug up the logs for AS and attached them below. Any help would be greatly appreciated - this is driving me up the wall!!!!
Regards,
Rajesh
P.S. I've tried AS 4.1 but I still get the same results.

I have the same with a T30.. What i sthe code in he Blue page. Mine was 00000001
I am having to use Infra Red to sysnc on this my work laptop.
I had this problem too. Firstly are you running Anti-virus software? In particular one that contains a firewall, such as PC-cillin? If so try disabling it temporarily (at your own risk etc...) and see if this helps.
Also you might want to try the latest version of ActiveSync 4.1 (build 4807, I think), which seems to be better.

Tried disabling both the AV and firewall, but to no avail. I've tried AS 4.1 and that didn't help either.
I've got it syncing using Bluetooth, but still can't sync with USB!
Rajesh
There was a report over at HoFo about someone with this problem that fixed it by making sure they had all of the updates from MS installed. They posted that after going to the Windows Update site, it installed SP2, still crashed, went back to the update site, got some more and one fo the updates was some sort of USB update. After that the problem went away.
I suggest trying that and seeing if it fixes the problem. Remember you might have to do the update site more then once to make sure all of the udpates have been installed.
Good Luck
Make sure that your motherboard drivers are up to date - this solved my blue screen of death on my Nforce 3 system!

IBM phantom tcp port management?
I too have an IBM that will NOT work with ActiveSync 4.x. I am convinced it is some phantom TCP Port network management issue.
I can only sync via IR, but ActiveSync 3.x worked fine b/c it did not use the TCP/IP stack as does ActiveSync 4.x!!! I also cannot use network management tools that employ high unassigned TCP ports...just like ActiveSync's TCP 26675!
Coincidence...I think not!
FYI, I installed 4.x on my HP laptop...works fine with my QTEX 9100.
Ideas?

Would appreciate any help (reinstalling the XP is not an option for me...). TyTN is working with no problems being linked to other computers.
Have you used the installation disc?
Mike
Installation disk for what? The thing is that the most recent RNDIS and "Windows mobile-based device" are part of XP SP2 pack... The other thing is that everything was working perfectly well for me till yesterday. This does look like smth has got corrupted, but SP2 repair did not help.
USB problem...
Hey, I have the same problem for over 3 months now...
The strange thing is, IR an Bluetooth work well, it's a TyTn thing because a Qtek 9100 or 8310 are perfectly pairable.
I also have this with ALL PC's using activesync 4.x. I first thought it was my USB cable that was defective, but this seems to be OK (sync perfect with all qteks PSP etc)
Altough i haven't used it with my vista configuration yet i think it will have the same problem...
Now i'm stuck with the o so slow IR because there's no answer for this on any site... (long live google)
nobody has an idea?
I can't believe that
Anyone fixed this as at the moment I cannot connect my hermes to my XPSP2 machine.
Mine wasn't working, then it worked. Don't know what I did.
But know the USB internet connect option doesn't work.
sigh...i hate windows
sorry double post. can't find the delete post option

Can anyone help?
try other usb ports, uninstall activesync, restart yr pc n reinstall again...

As a suggestion, have you tried toggling "Enable advanced network functionality" in Settings -> Connections -> USB? It may work then.
Usb, bluetooth and activesync trouble
Hello
I must apologise in advance, this will be a long post but any help would be greatly appreciated.
A couple days ago I bought a T Mobile Vario 2.
After setting it up I tried to connect it to my laptop (running windows xp sp 2 with activesync 4.1 which I used to use with my old SPV C500) on USB. It didn’t work. I got a few different errors on attaching the USB (ranging from “unknown device”, “device malfunctioned” to “new windows mobile device” or “installing RNDIS drivers”) and then eventually no USB errors, but no activesync connection neither.
Then I tried installing the activesync version that came with the phone (on the T Mobile CD) – I think it is 4.2. no success.
Then I tried installing the latest activesync (4.5) – on success.
Then I tried everything I found on the internet, including: uninstalling all the USB devices on my computer, manually removing the devices in registry, restarting hundreds of times, plugging the USB in different ports, manually installing the RNDIS drivers (under activesync 4.5 directory), different cables that work for sure, switching the “Enable advanced network functionality” off, and a few other things I found google but none worked. I tried connection my old SPV C500 and it still works. I tried connecting my Vario to one of my work mate’s laptop (same configuration, using activesync 4.1 with his O2 XDA Orbit) which didn’t connect neither.
A few hours later, I tried on another laptop (XP SP 2, never had activesync) with the activesync on the t mobile CD and it connected on the first attempt.
Then I tried a few more tweaks on my laptop, including disabling the firewall and I got connected. Still, it is inconsistent, it only connects about 1 times out of 10 and then in about 30 seconds it looses the connection.
I sort of lost hope with USB, and tried a Bluetooth USB dongle I had (not the best one ever, but it works). Set it up, paired the device, set up the com port in Bluetooth and activesync (which at the moment was 4.5) and I got them to go both (phone and PC) on connecting and then the phone freezes there, PC times out after a while. Then retried to pair and set up ports in different order a few times, then tried activesync 4.2 on which the phone still freezes on “connecting” but the PC is not bothered at all.
I should probably mention that I think my laptop’s USB ports are fine, I use a usb mouse and keyboard, and sometimes a dvd writer as well and all are fine.
Needless to say, I tried to use the wireless modem but the modem returns some remote access error, either 633 or 692, so I didn’t get much of my web n walk plus so far.
The only thing that I can think of is to try and get a better USB Bluetooth adapter (like a proper brand and listed here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=841803)
Please let me know if you have any idea (ANY IDEA AT ALL).
quick follow up, follosing this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=272727 I managed to get the dial up working though bluetooth (by connection from PC to phone) but still no joy with activesync.
Follow up
Hi guys
not much joy here.
I got it to connect on USB, but inconsistent only once in a while and it disconnects after about 30 seconds. Got it to connect over a dodgy bluetooth dongle I have but only a couple times, I cannot get it to connect again now.
It seems that the problem is PC related as it works on another PC. However, I can't find the problem.
Quick poll: what would you do if you were me:
1) Flash to WM6
2) buy a branded usb bluetooth dongle with WHQL drivers and try that for a change
Ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Hi everybody!
I'm having some trouble connecting a pocket pc to my pc. I'm getting the following error message from activesync when I try to establish a partnership connection:
"Cannot verify the version of ActiveSync on your device. A program such
as a firewall may be blocking a port ActiveSync uses to connect to the
device, or you may need to upgrade to a more recent version od
ActiveSync on the PC"
Even if I try to cardle a virtual pocket pc (visual studio) I get the above message.
I'm using activesync 4.5 on a windows xp service pack 3 pc. Installing AS 3.8 would solve the connection/partnership problem but I must use AS 4.5 because Visual Studio does not except older versions of AS.
I've tried so far everything: allowed all ports needed for AS (even deactivated the firewall) - I tried to delete the partnership folders but found out that they haven't even been created by AS.
Even google couldn't really help me: most people get this error message because they have installed a HSDPA usb modem driver from hauwei. But I did not.
does anyone have a solution for this strange problem?
thank you in advance!
I have the same problem. I once got into it through My Computer but since then I've had no luck whatsoever!
You have exactly the same problem?
if you're not using visual studio just install active sync 3.8 as mentioned above. But I found an uggly solution: Cardle you pocket pc - you will get the regular error message. then open the taskmanager and kill the process rapimgr.exe and restart it again (C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync)
Uncardle and recardle the pocket pc again - you will get a critical error message but it can be ignored. Now you will be able to accees your data.
To deploy your software on pocket pc with visual studio you might restart the remote rocedure call locator (Control panel -> administrative tools -> services)
hope I could help you! but I'm really not satisfied with this solution. I'm open for better ways to solve this problem.
