T Mobile MDA Pro now in the shops (UK) - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Well, the plastic dummy 'phone is. Saw one today - the sales droids claim almost no knowledge (and I believe them  )
Apparently, shop sales staff are kept in the dark until a day after launch, but they hope to get a new price list on Saturday.
Oh, and tried to call back T Mobile upgrades to speak to the guy who offered me a free MDA pro to basically say "yeah, pre order it for me" but the staff there won't transfer you as they are all clammering after a commission sale

Best deal on XDA II in UK (e2save.com?)

After being shafted by one stop phone shop, i've been searching for the best deal on a UK based XDA II.
I've just found e2save.com who are doing the XDAII with 3 months insurance on o2 200 for £119. Thats the same deal as one stop were originally offering. Other best i can find is £139.
Anyone dealt with e2save.com? They offer 7 day return and price matching as well.
They quote the o2 200 tariff at £30.99, most other places quote £30. Is this because they have bolted on itemised billing?
I think o2's rule now is that contract has to be kept for 6 months isn't it, then it can be downgraded to a cheaper one.
The double talk and text they are offering at the mo runs out at the end of april. I presume that if i ordered a phone before then, but it didn't get delivered and connected until after, would i still get the offer?
Also is it 3 months doubled for the months after connection?
I will get an XDA II one day, if the offer is right!
cheers
The e2save deal sounds (as you say) comparable to the one that I got from OneStopPhoneshop ...
Do a search on eBay for seller "uncle-jamal" and he is selling XDA II's for £139 on O2 400, with other deals available - but not as good as e2save.
The only other seller I found (via this board) was Uplands, but they were not as good (price-wise) either.
One piece of advice - wherever you go, it may be worth making a quick phone call before placing the order to see if they actually have any stock - I gather that O2 cannot get enough of these models at the moment, and as a result I had to wait 3 weeks for mine from OSPS - it was worth it though.

When i spoke to mobiles2yourdoor, they said they order them in and there would definately be no problem getting one within 4 days!. I suppose once they've got your money, if there's a delay that's too bad.
I'll phone e2save and see whats what, but i'm sure most places like onestop will say they have them even if they don't just to get the customer.
phoned up e2save today and they said that there was a delivery of the xda II today (thats why the prices have gone up on their site!!)
Well i ordered the o2 100 traiff at £139 plus P+P. They charge £25.99 a month and you get free itemised billing. I pointed out its not free as your paying for it and you can't elect not to have the billing (which other shops allow you to do!)
3 months free insurance as well.
So it should be delivered wednesday, hopefully!
Hi,
Just ordered my from e2save via the phone mine is coming tomorrow, did you notice that the insurance was not being supplied via O2
" 3 months FREE insurance with Allianz Cornhill " with a £50 access and you have to cancel the insurance after the 3 months or the will keep on taking the £7.99 it out your bank
steve
What time did you order yours? I phoned at about 5.30pm, and they said i wouldn't get it until wednesday
yeah the insurance is pretty standard. Its free for 3 months, then you just ahve to cancel direct debit if you don't want it any more. I will probably drop it as its no better than my home insurance.
Shame its not like the old ornage insurance. Free, new phone in 24 hours wherever you are, and no excess, oh happy days
It annoyed me that they changed their offers just because they got stock in!
Hi ordered mine around 3 o'clock (uk) the girl on the phone said they had only just come in, she also said that there was more in stock,
My son who ordered one from Carphone Wharehouse was told that they had no stock on sunday but they shipped it on monday so perhaps a lot of place got some form of stock,
When i spoke to the O2 shop in Derby the guy said that they had a back order list of 10.
steve
Well came today as expected, so i'm happy with their service. Seemed to be the best deal around at the moment. needless to say in a week or so there will be a better one!
I got jerked around by onestopphoneshop too!!!
They accepted my first order on 23/4/2004, asked for utility bills and then just dumped the order without telling me anything, by phone, email, or whatever. I only discovered it when I phoned up to check the order on the 1/5/2004, no reason given. I re-placed the order immediately, but, ahh sorry sir they're now UK£20 dearer AND you have to have a 6 months 02 200 contract not 4 months as it used to be. B*STARDS!
Even then they tried to cancel the order twice as the first utility bill I sent them was a month out of date, and then they lost the second one. It was only frequent and persistent phone calls that got me it at all.
DON'T BUY IT FROM THEM! GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!
Oh, and the free car kit they send you with it? The XDA II is too wide to fit it.
best deals
Guys i went for mobileshop.com
I got my XDA II the next day! with O2 250 + 50 bolt-on for 37 a month
Their service is excelllent and I am a business user

Livid with 02

I'm due a 12 month upgrade and am toying with getting an Exec (up from my XdaIIs), so I called O2 this morning. I have to say that I was shocked that they didn't offer me a single incentive to sign another contract with them. Sure, they wanted to sell me an Exec for some 160 Pounds, but I can get that from an O2 store, or online. They offered me no extra minutes, no extra Txts, discounts: nothing!!
Am I expecting too much? The reason why I'm so pi**ed off is that if I walked into an O2 store as a new user, they would offer me double minutes for the first 6 months. How can they treat existing customers so poorly?
It's not just O2 either - I was surprised at Orange when I left them as they offered neither me nor my fiancee any incentive to stick with them- if we were new customers to Orange they would have given us fantastic deals. I don't figure their logic - surely retaining customers is equally as inportant (if not more so) than recruiting new customers?
Strange. I was offered an exec for free even whilst i still have 2 months of contract left. I am on 1000min a month contract, which i easily exceed every month. So maybe that is the issue....
PvH
PVH: perhaps. I'm on 200 minutes, I believe, off the top of my head (the one that costs 30 Quid) so that could indeed be it. Don't get me wrong, as I didn't expect them to fall at my feet begging, but I would have hoped that they'd offer me something at the minimum comparable to what the would offer a non-customer!!
I'm in the process of writing a very stiff letter!
before i get a torrent opf abuse let me say that i cant belive this , i work for orange in the retention dept.
if anyone is at end of contract pm me for extention and ill try and help.
i cant belive they ofered you nothing cos we have to , its what we get paid for.
when u go to disconnect ask to be put through to retentoins for all the best offers
O2 have various bands for their customers. I was in a very low band and therefore I was quoted £329 for an upgrade to the Exec (just bought one from an O2 store, all-in price of £293 with one year subscription).
In order to get a good deal from T Mobile, I've ported my number out to a (free) Orange PAYG sim and as soon as the port is finished, I'll be getting a new T Mobile contract and porting back. Why do they make it so difficult? I mean, I even told retentions this is what I'd do and they said "yeah, sounds like a good idea"
I'm also coming to the end of my contract (in month 11) - got a phonecall from the company who sold me the phone to say I could get the Exec for 65 quid on my current contract. Might phone O2 direct and find out if they could do anything for me.
Disheartened to hear T-Mobile's attitude as when I was a customer of theirs, they generally did some pretty sterling deals to retain customers.
The chap from Orange - you couldn't do me a fantastic deal as a new customer could ya?
Just checked Orange prices for the M5000 and its fairly hefty
Heh I have had an even worse experience today.
I called for an O2, they sent me a refurb without a SIM.
I evaulated it and decided since I had paid £149 I wanted a NEW (not covered in greasy fingerprints) unit and a SIM (so I could actually use the phone line) please Mr. O2.
So sent it back and obtained a proof of postage as O2 had requested.
Called them .. engaged. Again, this time got through, sounds of a call center, immediately got put on hold then cut off.
Same again, ok sir, you need to speak to customer services not new connections .. uh .... click*
Tried again this time I got through to someone who apologized profusely, said they would go grab the fax .. put me on hold for ... 30 mins. *click
Eventually I faxed over the form .. again .. travelling to work each time .. some 10 miles since I like most normal people dont have a fax machine at home .. and they said ... ok sir, we'll look in to it and call you back.
I have a password on my account. Was never asked for it once, ever. So anyone out there with my post code can call up and **** my credit rating. Nice.
They didnt. Her name was Danielle 20643.
I called again and immediately spoke to a manager who advised she basically didnt give a ****. " I dont see how this is affecting your life at all sir, I think you are obstructive and un-coperative". Err ok. Like you run a credit check on me, that affects my life. You **** me around for a total of 5 hrs that affects my life. You make me pay for faxes (total of 10) that affects my life etc.
Err, no sir. I dont think so.
(In fact I was never called 'sir', so thats actually untrue)
Nice.
Eventually I went back to work and faxed again, this time calling beforehand. Finally, resolved.
So, Mr o2 can I have my new handset sent out now please?
Err, no sir. We're out of stock.
WHAT THE **** DID YOU JUST SAY?!?!?
Well they were in stock at lunchtime. Now they arent. Sorry.
Escalated again.
No sympathy.
No ETA on a handset.
No guarentee it wont be another refurb.
Basically I'm gutted.
Regarding the exec .. and o2 .. forget it is my advise. They're clearly a pile of crap. I work in a call center .. and half the stuff they did would be sackable offences where I work: Call evasion, no hold discipline, transferring without informing the customer, blatantly lying, no taking ownership, shouting at customers, terminating calls without warning etc. Where I work you simply dont terminate a call. Ever. Its all logged, all queried and all punished.
There its apparently standard practice!
The interesting thing is, they all sounded twelve. Even the manager. Would explain a lot ..
All a lot of hassle for a black universal. Heh.
To be honest, the "we don't care if you buy it, in fact, we'll be as obnoxious as we can get away with" attitude of the pre-sales staff was enough for me to give O2 a wide berth. I mean, these are the people trying to pursaude you to part with your money, god (or at least Gubbs  ) knows what their customer services must be like these days.
what can I say about o2 except I agree with everything said here. They are truly lousy, appalling at responding to customer requests. and frankly a more confused service provider I have ever come across.
What I suggest any and all customers do is write letters spaced a week or so apart to the chief executive. Always refer to your previous letter and demand exeptional compensation.
It may take a while but dont stop, they are slow to respond but when they do eventually wake up it's worth it. I got a full contract refund on 2 xda's for 12 months, two new XDaIIi's and £150.00 cash refund
Hope this helps..
They've been fine before, but what I was disapointed with was the feeling that they cared more about me when I wasn't a customer than they do now. To be told that they won't offer me ANYTHING is an insult, especially when ANYONE can get a better deal just by walking into an O2 store off of the street. It really does annoy me that they treat me this way, and, as I said in my earlier post, I've written them a strongly-worded Email (polite, off course!).
I'm on Online 200 with O2, formerly at £30 per month - upon renewal time (a month prior infact) I phoned retentions telling them I could get the Exec elsewhere with a more appealing tariff, eventually negotiated my Online 200 for 12 months discounted to £15 per month, plus £150 for the XDA Exec.
It arrived the next working day! Very pleased, with good customer service - I think the quality of service, and end result greatly depends on your attitude, patience and dropping any superiority complex when talking to the call centre staff - bear in mind they won't have had a good day!!
I'm not saying O2 are perfect, just that if you listen to the member of staff, be their friend not just 'customer', you'll get what you want!
Ashley; I'm always 100% polite when dealing with people whose job it is to try and help me. However, the person that I spoke to told me flatly, and more than once, that they would not budge on the price and were not able to offer me anything to renew, such as additional minutes, etc.
I'm slightly hamstringed by being in the US at the moment, but that doesn't change the fact that I got a bum rap.
I was with o2 for 8 years (cellnet first til o2 name change) and was due an upgrade (one month past) i got offered the Exec for £269 then £219 but they would not get any lower than that i told them that i could get a better deal with T-Mobile and was told that ''we are not a charity' i was also asked what i wanted with such a complicated phone for !!!
I asked for my Pac number and they let me leave without offering any other deals, 8 years loyalty means nothing.
i upgraded with two months left on iis
not sure of why you have had this issue but i phoned and said if o2 cant help then im off to a competitor.
Within minutes i was offered upgrade £139 to exec on 100 minutes 200 with special offer only snag was 18 month contract but i can live with that.
Always call back and be demanding (but polite) that if they cant help you will go elsewhere.
i had mine three days later and it is the bol.....s!
I also have been with the O2 journey through Cellnet, Genie, BT Cellnet etc etc, for over 8 years - I think a lot depends on the person that answers your call, I specifically asked for the girl that dealt with my call the previous year, she was fortunately still there and very cheery...she even remembered me!!
When on the phone, you've got to be their friend (or at least pretend), not just a customer and they'll treat you accordingly hence why they discounted my package as they did - a bit of begging also always helps!
Yes commitment to service should provide discounts, but equally there are other operators on the market so if you have such an issue, why not move and I'll guarantee you'll find similar frustrations with those networks equally.
O2 are excellent provided you don't need any help or customer service, the networks good and rarely has downtime, coverage is ok, 3G appears non existant, but I find very few issues throughout my time as a customer.
Phoned O2 direct - due to the "banding" it'll cost me 150 quid.
I think I'll call my supplier and just order one for 65 and do it that way.
Basically O2 said that if I can get it for 65 from someone else, do that because they can't do anything for me.
Nice(!)
£65!?!?! The device cannot be purchased for £65 unless its second hand, nicked or off the back of a lorry - its trade price is £100+!!!
remember this is with a contract.
Forgive me for being an arse, but once I get one ordered (or price matched in an O2 store as this is one of their promises) I'll post the URL to the site. I am just waiting on them calling me back.
I used this Company a year ago and found them to be very good.

O2 Online stops selling XDA Exec

I was looking at the O2 site yesterday hoping to pick up an XDA Exec but now I do not see any mention of it. The handset is no longer available. Is it still available in O2 shops ??
Looking at the price of the Orange device (M5000) O2 seem to be offering the best deal at the moment.
Yep still on sale in O2 shops.
Got mine yesterday - i'd advise phoning ahead first to save a wasted journey.
Its in the Business section under PDAs.
It is curious as to why.
Could be that stock is low for personal users OR O2 have realised that this is not really a personal device and is much more suited to business users. Unfortunately this leaves O2 with only the IIi that they can sell to the personal user, this could induce a fast track tot he next device.
PS XDA IIi now only £79.99 on any contract
Ordered mine friday..
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/o2/7839.htm
Stock is shifting like weldfire, so get in there quick..... o2 said the device was 149 online but 199 in the shops, got mine for 90 on a 35 quid contract which i'll be dropping down as soon as i can.
Got mine through store upgrade, £149 on £30/month (12 months). O2 store in London Wall str. Not bad. After last year out-of-stock experiences with the IIs and IIi, this time I went to the store and got it straight away no need to hang around waiting for the postman Always miss them.
Only out of stock?
I phoned the O2 "online help" number this morning, and spoke to a chap who assured me that it was only off the web page because it was out of stock. He was unable to give me a date for new phones arriving in, but was certain it would be coming back for personal customers.
Works for me, as I still have two months of my "3" contract to run...
Fingers crossed he knew what he was talking about.
regards,
/alan
Again, it must depend on who you get through to as I was assured on Friday that they had a lot of stock left of them.
I wonder if certain centres are advising different customers differently for any reason.

I sent them a email and they said:
"Thank you for contacting O2 Customer Service and showing your interest in our product and services.
The O2 XDA EXEC 3G phone will be launched on 17 November 2005. For more information in this regard, please contact our Sales team on 08702 257 879. They are available Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 9:00pm and Saturday from 10:00am to 6:00pm. Calls are charged at national rate."
Don't know what that means.
The girl on O2 said the phone were coming on the 16th, maybe o2 might put them back on the 3g contract...
Its back at the online store for personal buyers
Mine fell 2 feet from my pocket on Saturday and died instantly - no visible damage - after 3 weeks of use. I phoned O2 for a replacement and they said they were expecting stock on 17th Nov. The website states that you should take the phone to your nearest O2 shop but the shop told me to ring customer services since the phone was under a month old.

o2 Trade-In Cheque, £30 or £50 ?

I know there was some confusion regarding the trade in value, what was the outcome?
I've just received my cheque and it is only £30, when people have questioned this have they then received an additional £20 or not?
Cheers
When I got my Exec from the O2 shop, I traded in an old Nokia 5110 with a spent battery, and was led to believe I would get a £50 cheque back.
However, within the month I received a cheque from O2 for £36, I didn't question this as I assumed I didn't get the full £50 because of the dead battery. Then about 3 weeks later I received another cheque, this time from "Foneback" (I guess they are a phone recycling scheme?) for £20. I therefore got a total of £56 for a dodgy old Nokia.
Not bad.....
Paul.
My cheque is from fonebak, o2 customer services have suggested I go back to the store I purchased it from
Same issue, bought mine on 30th November, told £50, just got cheque for £30. rang O2 store in Woking where I got it - they said ring Customer service who said deal with store. Store said they would call back - ahhh.
Anyone got the 02 brochure and can scan in where it says £50 trade in?
Scott
£30.... :x
I got £30 from Foneback...
Being aware of the issues of the £30 & £50 I contacted customer services who confirmed that the trade-in is for £50 and I kept my brochure as I knew it would come in handy.
Contacted customer services and they claim they have no idea about it etc.
Will wait 'til after Xmas to give them a piece of my mind!!!
Hi,
If you have the brochure, any chance of scanning it in where it says £50 trade in, may help others if they need to prove it against the word of th salesperson

Hi,
If you have the brochure, any chance of scanning it in where it says £50 trade in, may help others if they need to prove it against the word of th salesperson
Scoo
Not sure if the brouchure will help, it say 'Upto £50 tradein' depending on the model of phone
I have the scan...
I will email it to those who need it.
They are telling me to go to the shop to sort it out etc.
I am not keen to do that but let me how all of you get on!!!
Thanks
S
Contact the Store
They will contact Fonebak and arrange the necessary. Make sure you speak to the manager of the store as they are best placed to confirm the situation.
Mine is being dealt with tomorrow and I will advise of any update.
Latest
I have been told that the £50 was only while the phone was priced £199 etc. and that once the price was cut to £79.99 the trade-in reduced to £30. I said not fair as I was told £50 etc, so they are looking at it again. I guess it is a case of being persistent, but it is only £20 and our time is worth more than that.
Same here, I went into to the store today, and the chap I spoke to said I was wrong.
He instantly turned to the page with the XDA Mini, and the £30, ahhh but thats the January catalogue not the December ohh he said I'll speak to the manager....
The manager says if I want to pay the £159 then I can have a £50 trade in, my reply was no chance you cannot change the rules after the customer has purchased the goods....
I requested that the manager came and spoke to me, he agreed that there was a printing issue, my reply was that this is o2 problem not mine. He would request a £20 credit to my account. Couldn't do it immediatley would take my details and call me back..... Guess what no call, I'll be back tomorrow....
It's not acceptable. I had a verbal aggrement that I would get a £50 cheque back as per the catalogue. Any deviation from this is a breach of (verbal) contract and should be treated as such (with a letter to your local trading standrads office, coppied to the hapless idiots at O2)...
i only got 30 pounds when they told me i would get 50, whats my best plan of action to get the other 20 pound
After two promised phone calls from the store manager that never happened, I went into the store and made a lot of noise....result.
Manager has now confirmed that a £20 cheque has been approved and will be with me by Wednesday....
Also I've not yet seen a bill for my Mini S, so this could be a very cheap device, its well over a month so I should have received one by now.
FINALLY
O2 customer services were unable to help but due to an £8 billing error and the hassle with the trade-in fiasco, they credited my account with £20, so I am happy!!!
Following on from this, I contacted the store and Ellie form O2 at Watford did nothing as promised and did not get in touch with me. I called her and she denied any knowledge and so on etc.
Today I rang Fonebak and they are fully aware of the issue. I spoke to a lady called Lyndsay who answered the phone. She confirmed there had been an error and that she would send me a cheque for £20 in the post today. All she needs is confirmation that you have purchased and XDA Mini S and did so prior to Xmas 2005. She has all the info in front of her so don't try to be too smart. Give her your surname and postcode and she will confirm the rest to you.
Good luck and finally!!!

Insurance for Devices

I was wondering what companies or services people are using to insure there Universals in the UK.
I thought it would be a good idea to have an up to date list of the insurance available and there providers.
Please comment on your experience with them, such as customer service, how well claims were handled, any problems etc.
Of course most of the mobile operators in the UK will provide insurance, please comment on these too, but if anyone has other options for sim/operator free devices like mine, then please do post them.
In the UK, LLoyds TSB throw in Insurance if you upgrade to a Gold Account. This costs around £60 annually, so it's market rate, but comes with other benefits, and conveniently will replace with cash rather then like for like, if your phone is obsolete at the time, which is convenient given the pace of change in this market.
V
i just got o2 gold insurance with mine, costs £5 a month, went on holiday and sat on my phone when i left it in my back pocket! cracked the screen, phoned them when i got home, said i just took it out of my pocket an it was like that lol, next day i had a brand newun and the guy took my old one at same time so i was never without it and i kept battery/charger/stylus/headphones/case from the old one  had similar experience with my original xda years back, think i lost it somewhere so phoned up said it had dissapeared an a couple of days later i had a nice newun with no fuss, i think i may have had to pay £25 excess
