Been doing research on how memory works in WM5. Very interesting stuff. I have a 2GB Mini-SD which I put most of my apps on in hope of being able to maximize my program performance. Is there a way to increase the amount of Program RAM the device uses?
MemMaid looks like it supports re-allocating available Storage RAM to Program RAM, but the slider doesn't move. I guess it was only for WM2k3
Is there a way in WM5?
thanks,

You can't relocate anything from WM5 RAM because it's not used for storing files any more. Therefore, the 'traditional' ways of relocating stuff are simply not needed.
You can only play with what Today plug-ins you have, what apps you use (for example, Web browsers have very different memory consumption at rendering pages), what apps you auto-start. That's the only way to have some influence on the RAM usage of your WM5 device.
If you have a look around on yahoo there are some sites where u can have the RAM upgraded to 128mb instead of 64mb. Last time i checked though it cost around £140 and you also have to send ya phone off for 2 weeks for them to do it.
Good Day ,
in my S200 , after installing many Programme , i have :
18.37 Mo free allowed for program & 35.54 Mo Free for storage
ca we increase the the total Free allowed for program and decrease for the storage ?
Many Thanks
S200 have 47.5 Mb flash ROM for Storage and 44 Mb RAM for Program running. When we install the program, it implicitly going in flash ROM (if ‘device’ was chosen) or explicitly in Storage Card (if we choose so). Unfortunately, boundary between FlashROM and RAM can not be movable because they have different nature. In the previous version OS (like in PocketPC 2003) this boundary between Storage and Program was movable because they all reside in the RAM.
there is any chance to have more than 18.37 Mo free allowed for program
Many Thanks
Without making changes in hardware - NO.
Thanks

Keep in mind, you have 18.37 Mb after some program installations and those programs runs already (like SpbPcketPlus and so one). So 18 megs RAM left are good deal chunk, it will be enouge to run few more huge programs, if you need them all same time. Ask yourself, how meny and how big programs do you realy need same time to run?
Hi, I really like using emulator on my wizard. But I need around 33MB Program memory free to use one of my favorites. Is there any way to get that kind of program memory free? After a soft reset I have around 27MB free , what can I do to free up about 5 to 6 MB more?
Please someone help me out on this one?
Thanks!
Buy a storage card, thats what they are for.

Thnx for you reply, but I'm talking about Program memory, not Storage. I own a 1GB storage card, and I know what they are for
I'd like to know too, I only have 25mb free after soft reset. I'm guessing you don't have any Today screen plug-ins, which gives you 2mb more than I, as I have Pocket MSN, PHM Launch, SmartSKey, OmapClock, and vBar all running. btw, is the program you want to run PocketGBA, because that's the app. I want to free up my program memory for in order to play 32mb carts?

Lol, yes, that is the app I want the free memory for, nice to see another emu fan.
And yeah, i have to no today-screen plugins loaded. I really hope someone has a solution to this.
I hope so too as well, but so far you have the most free memory of anyone i've seen on the forum. Too bad we can't apply storage extended rom memory to program memory like previous OS'...
yeah, I understand why it's usefull to have the program mem seperate from the storage, but it was pretty cool to be able to increase your program mem with the slider...
But back then all of the memory was the same RAM no matter if it were used for programs or storage, now with persistent storage it's seperate memory and the flash memory is much much slower you wouldn't want to reallocate it like that anyways.
so there isn't a solution for this?
Try running in safemode
Safe mode releases all the plugins and programs to run in memory.
SPPOCKETPLUS have this utility.
Dear All,
I run the O2 XDA as is w/ 4 heavy add applications, Navi, PIM, Wallet and Blackberry.
I start w/ 50% RAM usage after soft-reset. After some days I see 75%
There is either a memory leak in the applications, or DLLs are sitting there and are not unloaded from mem.
IS THERE ANYWHERE A TOOL TO MANAGE AND REVIEW THE DYNAMIC MEMORY ALLOCATION (RAM) ??
Thank you for info.

I am not aware of one. The Sktools application has some useful clean-out stuff and has an option to manage running processes. It does not sadly show their %Ram usage figures.

Ram usage
Hi, thank you for your reply.
May be somebody else from the R&D side has something to say.
I recognised that the sum of RAM usage, as indikated by tools like SK or Taskmanager does not at all come close to the RAM usage indicated by System resources.

Sorry to post to myself,
but I found out that after soft reset, Task manager tool and mem maid show significantly different memory allocation for the processes running after reset. For example filesys 2,85 Mb versus 2,4 Mb.
What to believe ??
All in all, I come close to 8 Mb mem usage for the processes. with 49 Mb free, I count 56 Mb. If the total RAM is 64Mb, where are the other 8 Mb? Can this be other code, copied into RAM for execution ?
Does somebody know, if the display has its own memory ?

I always find issue with T-Mobile Memory. I am using the twick by Modaco and have Physical Memory of 20 MB but the same time dynamic Storage memory is killling the phone. Most of the time is only 6 MB. Any suggestion how to free up more rame from this device?
any advise?
What are you running? DO you have a memory program like SKTools or Memmaid??? Also, WM6 is a huge memory hog in case you didn't know?
