Removing rubber cap on bottom, how ? - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

I plan on buying a deskcharger but ofcourse when putting the phone on it will need removing the rubber cap on the bottom of the phone every time. That's a bit of hassle. So, how to remove the cap permanently ? Hopefully it's possible to cut one end of the rubber "string" and pull it through the hole. If not, then it would be best to open the phone I guess. Anyone know the best procedure for this ? Many thanks.

Where's your head ? As in my original post : " the rubber cap on the bottom of the phone". Anyway I understand this HTC Magician has many different faces and asses My model has the rubber-cap. Any help would be appreciated.

Code72,
The 'rubber cap' is a dust cover for the usb and headphone jack on the Dopod 828, Krome Spy and Orange SPV M500. All the other versions of the Magician don't have it.
Daffie,
I would pull out the rubber cap as far as it can go and cut off the 'strings' as close to the body as possible. that way the ends should just disappear back up into the case.

Thanks. Yeah that's what I figured. Hopefully if I cut the string on one side only it can be pulled through the hole. That would be the ultimate solution. If that doesn't work then I'll cut both sides. I'm afraid though the leftover piece of string could get a life of it's own inside the phone

Hey, I'll swap you my plain vanilla magician for your m500, I like the rubber cap! My USB port is full of dust and crap!

New faceplate for Wizard 100 series

Does anybody know where you can get a new faceplate for the Wizard 100 series? (Cingular / Dopod styling).
Also, how does the old one come off, with just loosening the two small torq screws on the back of the slider?
Thanks!

No idea where you'll get one from, but there's more holding them together than just those 2 screws.....
check the wiki for magician diss-assembling methods - they're likely to be similar, but in brief you'll need to prise the aeriel cover off, remoce 2 screws there and void warranty seal, remove the 2 screws you can see, then lever the casing away from the chassis.

I recall reading a thread either here or on howardforums about someone who found a source for the stylus. When I went to the site the poster provided, I found that they provide just about every part for HTC phones. I think there may have been a minimum quantity that must be ordered, but haven't verified. Do a search on "stylus" or "found stylus" or similar here and at HoFo and see if you can find the thread.
Thanks Summiter! Do you remember how old the post was? I have been searching with no success

How to Disassemble Cingular 8125?

I managed to knock my 8125 off the counter while charging, landing on the charging connector and snapping the USB connector off the motherboard. Does anybody know where I can find instructions on how to disassemble the 8125 so I can attempt to re-solder it to the board. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Here's a link to the Wizard Service Manual
http://www.box.net/public/4enzlr1l8c
This is what Ive been looking for....Thanks for the link.
This site is EXCELLENT.
Thank you very much for the link. I was able to take it apart with no problems and then solder the Mini-USB connector back in place on the board, with no problems. The phone works great again, charging and tethering, and transferring data. Thanks again.
hey thanks a lot for the link...and also for Reighvin for proving that its possible cuz the same EXACT thing happend to my brother....
It takes a steady hand, and I suggest a magnifying glass on a stand to help see the 5 contract points. They are tiny and very close together.
im having trouble taking out the back housing!!! the 8125 is a little different to the MDA onthe diagram...who did u do it?
About removing the batter cover, and the top cover around the the camera...
The battery cover is simple. But the camera cover requires to gently pry it up around the edges. Be especially careful around the top of the phone, as there are a couple plastic clips there.
Once the covers are off, there are 4 screws to be removed. One is under a VOID label. Once they are removed, the board just comes right out of the phone.
oo yeah igot that part, i was having trouble with the full housing in the back because i had to open the keyboard adn then take it out...i just hope soldering it back on work and does the job...becuase the usb part, 1 of the 5 small pins is chopped off...

Removing the back housing on the 8125
Hello Reighvin,
I'm trying to take my 8125 apart to remove the camera module. I have the Wizard service manual and was able to take the battery cover (of course!) and the camera cover off. I also was able to take out the 4 screws holding the back housing on. I was not able to figure out how to take the back housing off, though. The Wizard has a little different housing from the 8125. The Wizard manual shows where there are plastic clips holding the back housing in place. I'm not sure where the 8125 housing clips are.
You said in your posting above that after the screws are removed, the back houseing just lifts out. Didn't you have problems with the plastic clips that still hold it in place? What did you use to pry the back housing out after removing the screws?
Thanks much,
Cingular 8125 GSM Reception Problem
I have replaced the full housing of my cingular 8125 and after that I am phacing a problem with it's signal reception. It can find the provider I can make a phonecall but it cuts the line when it tries to get signal from another transmitter point of the same provider. Does anyone have any idea what might be the problem.
Thanks in advance!!
Hi,

Anyone done a full disassembly of this unit? Any tips or things to watch out for?
Many thanks,

dismantling O2 Atom housing

Hi,
I have just bought a new O2 atom housing (as my old one is scratched to death), and am currently trying to find a guide or instructions on how to dismantle the phone housing.
I know there are two T screws with void stickers on them that need to be removed at the bottom end of the phone one you slide the battery cover off. I can't see any other screws visible. Apparently there are meant to be 4.
Does anyone have detailed instructions on how to change the housing? I have searched this forum and google, and have come up with nothing much.
Thanks everyone!
There is a fully descriptive video on dismantling the Atom, I cant find it but I had it last year and Im sure you will find it just keep looking. Basically you must remove the camera housing cover and there are two more screws under that, then you run you finger nail between the front and back cover to open the housing, good luck and remember nothing needs to be forced.
try this...http://bible.younet.com/files/2007/03/30/369427.shtml
you have to pop the top half of the rear cover off. it is particularly difficult, and the black strip that runs right around the devices is very soft plastic which gets mashed real easy. try using your fingernail (even that will dent it) and run it around the edge. Once it pops off you will see the other two screws. they also has void stickers on them.
Good luck

I know there are 4 screws that need to be removed. have taken the top cover off so can see the other 2 screws have an old nokia T tool but it does seem to fit the screw heads
can anybody tell me... what sort of tool do you use to take the screws out?
hmm i use a precision screwdriver set , try all the size and see which one it fits =)

Hi all,
do you know if a Atom Exec housing is compatible with a Xda Atom "classic". Same dimensions i think.
Thanks a lot !

Um, what is this part?

Hi! So my Wizard (well, the T-Mobile MDA) had an issue where its USB port became completely detached, so I found the service manual and opened it up to fix it. When I got the back housing off to expose the relevant circuit board, a small metal part flew out, and I can't for the life of me figure out where it belongs. The pictures in the manual aren't high enough resolution for me to be able to tell where this tiny sliver of metal fits in. I've since done the soldering I needed to do and fixed the USB jack, and the phone seems to work fine... I've attached two pictures of the part in question, with the phone for scale on the first one.
Any ideas? If I'm not noticing any functional differences, is it reasonable to just not worry about it? Thanks!
That is the spring clip that holds the stylus in place. I mounts inside the cover over where the stylus goes.
Fantastic. Thanks!
Thanks a million from me too....had the exact same problem yesterday!
Stylist retaining spring
Thanks for the info - I too found this after disassembling my to check and clean the buttons. Although, now it isn't working - rats! I had hoped that finding where this belonged would solve that.

I had the same problem a long time ago, then found a thread with this same question
I solved by placing a piece of tape on tha plastic part of the stylus (Of course with the same shape so it not looks bad) and voila!
Hope it helps for you
I am not interested in putting some tape on the stylus as I think that this is only a tempory measure!
There has been a tread here where somebody showed us how you can fix the internal plastick "spring" which holds the stylus, but for this I have to open the PDA...So if somebody knows the torx screw number, that would help me!
Thx!

I dont mind changing tape once or twice a year really
Anyway good luck and if you find another solution please let all us know
Cheers,
Ok guys, its a T-6 you need to open your Qtek 9000...lets see that the patient survives the operation!
It was a 5min job...a small drop of 2component glue and voila!
I think that the plastick "spring" got "tired, its like new now!
See pictures...
Cool!!
I´ll test it soon as I can
Merci!
