Is this possible, if so how???
Hold the green phone button down for 3 sec's after ringing tone/call received.
...and same procedure to switch back from speaker to normal.
Thx a lot. Had a German manual which I can't understand, so I coulden't read it... Now I know!!!
mmmm
No way to do it automaticaly??? ;(
For example, when i change my profile on "car" i'd like to get auto speaker on....dunno if this is a possible thing. Hope so
No, I don't think so.

I haven't seen any profile switching application with this feature till now.
Just buy a genius Mrhandsfree holder with bluetooth and your wishes will come through. Step into the car, start the car (and thus also the carholder) and your magician will make a bluetooth contact with the holder. It works fine (most of the time)

If you will read a manual we can aviod those kind of qwestions !!!!
Out of topic a bit. Talking about automatic profile switching, I used to have a Sony T630 phone that has a built-in scheduling 'software'. The scheduling software actually switch the profile to 'Silent' when it know you are in a 'Meeting'. Is there similar software for WM2003SE? I think it is quite a good idea, you don't want to have your phone ringing in the middle of a meeting.

You could try Phonealarm from Pocketmax, it has profiles and lots more...timed profile-change and autoswitch on meetings. Even autoswitch on location, so give it a try  tell Bruce I send you...
I'd say that one of the best profile software I used when I had a P900 was Magic Profiles. Too bad they only develop for UIQ devices.
I don't think you can answer the phone to the speakerphone programmatically, (at least on the W2003SE HTC models)... (though if someone knows how I would LOVE to know)

Having had my XDA 2 now for a few weeks, and having finally worked out most of the kinks of the really inadequate bluetooth stack (by installing the widcomm stack) I am now moved to address my other annoyances: the very feature poor phone software.
I expected a very configurable phone, but was very disappointed with the microsoft dailer. The short list of features I find missing are:
No separate ring tones can be assigned to each contact. This could be very usefully, as you would know who is phoning without checking the screen.
No software to keep track of your calls or GPRS allowance. Even my old nokia from 3 years ago could do that.
No way to transfer a call from the handset to a headset. I know you can do it the other way around, why not this way too?
Very little status information on the dailer screen. Why is this, when most cell phone screens look like the status display on a jet?
Anyways, there is alot more, and people may want to add their annoyances. Im really wondering if there is any software that can replace the microsoft Dailer (like Pocketinformant replaces the pocket outlook).
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Surur
Took me a minute to know what you're talking about.
No, I hate the built-in dialer on the Pocket PC.
The author of mobidial (http://www.mobidial.com) told me there will be an XDA II version.. hopefully soon.
-arebelspy
hey,
just a few comments....
re: No separate ring tones can be assigned to each contact
- i beleive the o2 xda site has free software for download; one of which is called powercontacts. i believe it allows you to assign a ringtone to each contact. i tried it when i still had the xda1...never got it to work. so, i downloaded a trial version of ringtonex; it works like a charm and i'm able to assign individual ringtones to any contact i want. i immediately bought the software, i think it was for around 9usd. now that i'm using the xda2; the software still works great. for ringtones what i did was record the voice of my friends, officemates, my wife, and used those wav files for ringtones corresponding to their contacts. it also works in tandem with the photocontacts app in the xda2
re: No way to transfer a call from the handset to a headset
-the xda2 has bluetooth and i use it together with the bt200 headset. incoming and outgoing calls are automatically transferred to the headset.
2 cents worth.
cheers mate
robson
Transferring from phone to headset is a headset dependent thing. My HBH-65 allows me to transfer to phone and back to headset, but my Jabra wouldn't have.
Thx for the great pointers. I am definitely getting the RingtoneX app, and mobidail or something similar, when it comes out.
I just wish that developers would design more for handed use, not using a stylus, especially as bluetooth voicedailing does not work.
About transferring to a headset, I mean after you pick up a call with the XDA, transferring the call to a headset should be possible, but has not worked for me yet.
Another minor peeve, why is the sms option not on the dialler, but on the menu bar, and why is speaker phone also not on the front, but you have to press a key for it. There still needs to be alot of improvement. Hopefully independent programmers will kick in and fix all these deficiencies. It does make you wonder if the developers actually use their own devices or not...

i think it's because that most cell phones screens is their version of the today screen
i most surdenly would not wish such a confusing cluttet messy interface on my worst enemy
(yeah of cause not all cellphones are all that bad some many are)
I dont know. At least they should have the battery status on the screen, and the network logo would not be ammis either (currently its difficult to know when you have no reception, or just no reception)
Alot of the stuff thats currently in the task bar could also be bigger icons on the dailer, and it would also make it look less plain and just incomplete, as if its been thrown together at the last minute.
Surur
well not sure if it's much help but if you install some bar like advanced wisbar on your pda you'll have batt status in the bar both in today and the dialer
suppose this is a pre customised vs. free 3. party customising
some people like to set up their device with personal customising and some people want the place they buy it to handle that
in that way i suppose xda and other such devices are more like computers then std phones are
of cause if one get a xda with all the stuff in the preloaded provider rom they get more of that stuff you want
of cause thats not saying that they get enough
Ive been a user of Icbar for a long time, but as notifications is so important on a PPCPE device, and its not supported, I am not able to use it anymore. This is unfortuanate, as I enjoyed knowing what my battary status is all the time.

Dears, is any one aware if there is an Answer Machine Software for imate?
That if some one calls u, the software will asnwer the call (at your voice) and the one who calls might leave his message.
The advantage of it, is if you are in a meeting, then the answer machine would say I am in a meeting, or if you are in a theater, it says, wait for a while on the line, I am on theater and will answer ur call in few seconds, and so on...
Is there such a software? if not, is it easy to make?
There is no such software and it is impossible to write it for any existing PocketPC Phone. Even for QTEK 9090.

Waw, sorry to ask, since you have good experience in programming, why it is impossible to have Answer Machine as a software in imate?
In the other hand, is is possible to develop a small program to show the Contact name in the SMS Confirmation instead of mobile number? this is also applied to SMS coming from system operator when your mobile is swtiched off showing phone numbers called u while your mobile is off, currently, only phone number is shown, not the contact number.

In general this is impossible because TAPI in WinCE 4.20 does not support a wave device. So you cannot in your program intercept and play sound that is going through a phone part. Additionally GSM in imate does not support voice modem AT-commands so it is not possible to make such a program even by direct communication with modem.

This is theoretically possible. I'm also interested in such program.
Thank you verymuch for your quick reply, will email you more details about this project today.
Take care.
I understand what program you are talking about, but currently I have no free time for coding.
Golden Sands, why don't you use the Voicemail service provided by Al Jawal?
It just occurred to me, having your own answering machine would relieve you of STC's voicemail costs.
Impossible? Since you can record the phone conversation manually, why could you not do it programmatically?
To my understanding it is not possible to record phone conversations even manually... how do u do that?
Tap the notes icon from the dialer and press the record button. It records both sides of the conversation. Very useful. Watch your encoding settings, as you could eat up memory fast. GSM 2k is fine for voice and very small.
works, but
not when using the bluetooth earplug connection.

You can record a conversation programmally like you record a normal sound. The only difference is that you have to open WaveIn only after the call is established. Otherwize you'll record silence. But you cannot play anything so that the other side would hear it -> so "answering" machine is impossible. Only non-interactive "listening" machine is possible.
As far as I know, you can't record but your own voice in a phone conversation. That is, you can record the incoming voice as long as the speaker volume is somewhat loud so the integrated microphone can pick it up (that's why it works best in speakerphone mode).
To prove that, try to record a conversation while using the handsfree headset (not the bluetooth but the wired headset) and you will see that only your voice will be recorded.
Sorry,
Rayan

Well, it is not about cost, although it might be a good idea to save some money! I do not like Asnwer Machine, I preffer sending SMS when some one is not available. But my idea originally is to develop an Answer Machine that asnwers your call if you are in Theater (Cinema), or Airplane before departing, or Conference, this message says (at your voice) "please wait on the line, I am getting out to answer your call" or something like that, and the other party will wait until you are able to answer him. I would suggest to call this as "Simi-Answer Machine". Here, the other party will not leave any message. How this sounds?
So, dear "mamaich", would it be possible to develop the "Simi-Answer Machine" that displays/run your voice until you are able to talk or answer the call? Of course, you need to press a button then to start talking with the other party.
Hope this sounds better!

This is probably true for XDAs (I have not tested) but in my previous Rover S1 aka Anextek SP230 both voices were recorded (I've checked that). Maybe this is a hardware limitation of XDA.

HP Jornada 928 has Answering Machine
Salam
As far as i know there's only one Pocket PC which is HP Jornada 928 which is running Microsoft PC 2002 Phone Edition has this feature.
here's a link for more information about the HP Jornada 928 http://www.pdagold.com/files/hardware/0000000128_SNAYN.pdf
i wonder if it works for HP Jornada 928 why it doens't work for other devices like XDA or i-mate.
if i have this device i would try to extract the software from the ROM and give it a try on my i-mate Pocket PC, maybe it will work who knows?
i would like to know who develop this software for HP Jornada 928, any clue is highly appreciated.
Thanks with best regards.

Dont think it will work unless the hardware is identical as the coding must be hardware specific methinks.

That's one of the few things Sprint PCS does right--the ability to tell a caller to hold on for a moment. It's done system-side though. I'd love the ability to do that when I'm on another call or in a place where I can't answer immediately.

Theoretically this can be made. But it would require reverse engeneering and modifying GSM firmware which would take lots of time.
Hello all,
Does anyone know if there is a program that allows you to set various ring profiles like on the nokia phones. This is a very useful and quick way of changing ring settings.
Hi,
I use phone alarm from pocketmax and have done for about 6 months. I think it works perfectly especially when getting on a flight.
www.pocketmax.net
Hope that helps,
M.
Or try PocketZenPhone, it's much easier that PocketAlarm.
Try PocketZenPhone, is the better!!
Have to say originally I tried - ok 6 months ago - PocketZenPhone and didn't like it. It hung alot and just didn't integrate well. Haven't tried the newer version.
Phone alarm though I like for the following reasons:
1. Allows MP3 SMS tones
2. Repeating alarms (like Motorola) to avoid missing alarms
3. Integration with WebIS mail
4. Integration into Today screen
5. Skins
6. GPRS settings
7. General notification settings
It seems to do what PocketZenPhone does and more. Just my opinion though
M.
Here you go!
Hi mates,
I have spent several days looking for a phone profiler (ala Nokia) as much simple as possible... no whistles and bells, no bloatware... just profiles.
I miserably failed!
So I decided to develop myself a software solution to accomplish this simple task.
I am so happy with it that I have decided to share it with you.
It is completely FREE. Take it as it is, of course!
I've been using it for several weeks now, and could not experience any failures. Nonetheless there could be bugs or malfunctionings I would be glad to fix if you let me know.
My "Phone Profiles" includes a control panel Applet to change your settings and a Today Item plugin to easily select or change the current profile.
Just select the today item, tap-n-hold (or hold the action button down) to display a popup menu with your profiles.
For all the CLaunch lovers, it also possible to activate a given profile from a command line using the following sintax:
ctlpnl.exe profiler.cpl, n, 1
where n is the profile number. Change 1 to 0 if you want just to edit the profile's settings.
This software has been tested on WM2003SE Phone Edition only.
That's all, I guess.
Enjoy.
M. Panzica (aka Silver Bullet)
UPDATED: Looks like it does not work properly if compiled with VS2005. Recompiled with eVC4. Please re-download. Sorry.

hi! i'm a new magician user. may i ask how will I install your Profiler to my phone?
Try PocketZenPhone or PhoneAlarm
Those 2 should be the best in the market now
I just try both of them as of late
And I must say I choose PhoneAlarm better than PZP, PZP is a little slow and would hang once in a while
Plus PhoneAlarm got more feature like billing info, better skining...ext

Hi,
I just downloaded and installed your little program on my Magician, and I am seriously impressed! The Today DLL is a mere 12k, and everything works flawlessly so far!
Great job - thanks a lot!
Would you allow me a few comments, in no particular order?
- your program needs a name.
- the GPRS problem that PZP has seems to not exist in your program - well done! I'm almost convinced to switch...
- this thread here is about the three existing profiles programs. Could we have a separate thread for your program?
- would you care to comment how you manage to switch on/off Bluetooth? I remember that for Zendrui this was not easy to implement. Does your program also handle Widcomm stacks?
- I would be interested in a German version, and if you send me a string table, I'd be more than happy to to provide German translations.
- one wish: I certainly do not want all of the settings PZP offers, but there are a few I do miss:
-- setting the volume for system sounds. There are situations where any sound is unacceptable, even the beeps when tapping.
-- set the backlight time-out. For example, when I navigate, I do not want the backlight to turn off at all.
-- backlight level independently for battery and charging mode.
Yes, I know that this already sounds like beginning featuritis. But afaik all these settings are simple registry entries, so should not bloat the code. Trying to put this into the UI may be a bit tricky. Well, just my personal wishes - feel free to ignore if you disagree.
Overall, I find it a really well-done little program. Thanks a lot again!
Cheers
Daniel

Hi, I'm hoping that someone's going to know how to do this..
On my old S60 Nokia I could set up timed profiles and zoned profiles.
The timed profiles was useful as it meant the phone would automatically turn to a "silent/vibrate" mode between a certain time, like late night/early morning, and then automatically change back in the morning.
The Zoned profiles meant, that when I was in the office the phone would automatically set to quiet, then when I walked out would go to loud, by use of mobile tranmitters, not GPS, but either would be great!
Does anyone know whether there is an application that would work with WM5 on the Uni that can do this? Or even just Timed Profiles... Or even Profiles PERIOD!!!
Cheers and best regards!!!!
Take a look at www.s-k-tools.com and SKSchema which does not do all you want but it has the basis and the author is very helpful if you ask for extra features.
regards cjb
Any one would be PhoneAlarm which supports timed profile.

Hi,
I've tried PhoneAlarm and PPCProfiles, but they've both got some problems :-(
PhoneAlarm did something but for the life of me I can't remember what It was annoying and needed a hardreset I know that!
PPCProfiles messes with my Ringtones, it conflicts with the Phone and Notifications options in the Control Panel :-(
I can't find a demo of PocketZen, all the links get me to 404 errors :-/
Is there anything else? What I want is so that between 0800 and 2200 Mon - Fri and 0900 - 2000 Sat and Sun my phone rings as normal, but other times the ringer is automatically turned off (leaving alarms to sound as normal)
Any ideas?
Cheers.
I have made a program for my girlfriend wizard so she can talk with skype using the earpiece instead of the loudspeaker...
It might be useful for others too, use it at your own risk, I do not take responsibilities for any damage made by this program...
It also may work with other phones, it is a matter of trying... of course again, at your own risk.
It is very simple, just run the program before a skype call and then bring it up and press "ok" to close.
If someone knows tha if skype broadcast some sort of message while making a call, please send the information to me so I can make a auto-switching program ;-)
Do not let the program running because you can really mess things around, but nothing serious... just annoying.

Thanks.

Thanks man, I don't need it at the moment, but it is great idea.
this is a fix that a lot of ppl have been waiting for but unfortunately it doesn't work on my tytn 2. is there any way that you can make a universal switch or one for the tytn 2?
can someone use this fix to auto-switch when wm6 voip call is comming in?
This is brilliant, brilliant!!!!
I suggest you repost this as VOIP: Audio redirection to earpierce and hopefully the mods can make this a sticky. This is a problem that has baffled many for long.
I've tested with both Express Talk and WM6 VOIP. However WM6 VOIP has got an issue on my phone where the volume is low with lots of noise. However in both cases, the app redirected the audio to the earpiece. Express talk is crystal clear through the earpiece and is what I'll be using for VOIP calls.
Would you care to elaborate on what issues we can expect if we leave the application running for long?
one small problem is after running this .exe, i am unable to key lock my device. so as i speak over the earpiece of skype i have the tendancy to press buttons (eg. hangup) with my face.

would vibrate still work?
To answer my own question, I tested it and it does! (Well I tested it on my Tilt and it worked)
My own problem now is finding a ROM that works with Skype and Troca2. The one I have now will not use the mic on the phone (whether troca2 is running or not). Either way I am making progress towards my Skype only wizard!
SKYPE and FRING on Sony Xperia X1
Have you managed to make this software automatic??
It may be a good idea if the software would work for FRING and SKYPE only without redirecting ALL the sounds.
Is it possible??

Hi MarceloFB,
This works great on my Xperia X1 (didn't try it with Skype, just my own VOIP app). ... Also have not tried it on my TytnII, don't even think I'm going to bother, since the TytnII hardware (as far as I know) won't support it.
I would, however, love to just put the API call into my own VOIP app instead of having the extra executable.
I have tried:
waveOutMessage( hWaveOut, /*MM_WOM_FORCESPEAKER*/WM_USER + 2, FALSE, 0 );
... as I thought that was the way to redirect the sound on devices where the hardware supports it, but that does not seem to work.
Would you maybe be willing to let me know what API calls you make in your app?
Regards
Hendrik
