Phone number now has brackets? - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

After hard-resetting my mini and loading ROM 1.11 then not loading the extended rom ( reset prior to installation ) I notice when I dial a number on the phone, it now reads (993) 137-83 instead of 9931 3783
Any ideas as to why? Am I supposed to run a particular cab file?
thanks in advance

The short answer is YES, its in one of the CAB files but I don't know which one. If I hat to guess I'd go for the "default_103133" CAB.
What i did was test each CAB file to see what it changed but didn't write it down.

Try playing around with the regional settings... example if u use english (australia) the bracket will be gone or if u use english (united states) the numbers dialled will be according to the standard format there which has brackets. good luck.

Thanks folks, Adit you hit the nail on the head. My regional settings were set to United States. Much appreciated.

hi. im in sydney wit xda2mini, set my region to english aust.
in my contact i have like this : (04) 0157-5243 for mobile phone, which is very bad looking. can some1 tell me how to change it to 0401575243 or 0401 243 575.. as long it doenst have bracket, then im happy
maybe this is because my outlook? i sync my xda with outlook 2000. i tried to change outlook setting but couldnt find the correct option like region or something. thx every1~~~~~~~~~~~

Check ypur regional settings on your PDA.
START, SETTINGS, REGIONAL SETTINGS, make sure it is selected to ENGLISH (AUSTRALIA)

I have changed this setting and I still have the numbers looking stupid with the brackets.
Might it have something to do with how outlook handles the numbers?

yes, thats what i said in prev. post. if i insert new contact FROM XDA, then i wont have bracket. but if i create new contact FROM OUTLOOK, it will make 1st 2 digits inside brackets. i couldnt find any setting in outlook to modify this.. some1 can help? thx

Outlook
Lads,
This is an outlook querk. If you go into a contact and enter a phone number or tap the edit button next to a contact you get a window which has three enterable areas. Country code, NDC (National destination code) or area code and number. Outlook automatically formats the number into
+<country code> (<area code>) <number
You can stop it from doing this but it can be helpful when its formatted like this. I've changed all my numbers to this format.

This bracket thing is really annoying me too.
Is there any English (Indonesia) or English (Singapore) that don't use bracket? Or should we change to English (Australia)?
Hormat saya,
Arto.

UK
Try UK regional settings. No brackets

i believe the problem is at the OUTLOOK side, not from the xdamini. like i said, (mine set to english australia) if i enter new contact FROM XDA, then it will be stay without bracket, but iwill have bracket if i create new contact FROM OUTLOOK.

I think it will only add brackets once you edit the number. I think Outlook sees spaces in the phone number as telling it what is the international code, area code etc. If you leave the number as +11234567890 I think Outlook ignores it.
I had mine as a mixture but prefer them with the brackets and so edited them.
Its definitely Outlook not the phone

SmartDialing search by FirstName/LastName

When i try to call somebody through SmartDialing it searches by LastName/FirstName is there a way or some registry hack where i can do it by FirstName/LastName......
isn't anybody facing any problem in this regard???
are u serious????
nobody is experiencing it????
is it only me???
.... is there a solution yet???
same problem
I have the same problem.
In Portugal, we call people by first name/last name.
Anybody knows how to fix it?
Regards
Marcus
I don't know what smart dialing you ppl are talking about but on my exec if i seach by name in contacts it gives both results - by first as well as last name.
If I use the keypad to key numbers in the dial mode then it searchs by number, firstname and lastname. So whats the issue about? Also the list of people is displayed wherein the matches for the firstname are displayed first and then the lastname. Yes the names are displayed in lastname-firstname format but that doesn't really make a difference does it? (the names are highlighted to the last character keyed in)
The only way to change the order from Last, First to First Last is via desktop Outlook. Go into Tools > Options > Contact Options and change the "Default Full Name order" and "Default File As order" options to what you wish.
However, the only way to change the existing contacts is to go into each within desktop Outlook and change the File As option.
Cheers
Ant
but isn't there a way or a registry hack to change the display to FirstName/LastName in smart dialing?

Changing Phone and Contacts display format

Hi all,
I'm a new PDA phone user....just bought my O2 Atom Exec few days ago.
Not sure if this has been answered before but I can't seem to find any posts on this anywhere.
1) When dialing or receiving calls, the phone number is always displayed with country code, area code format, e.g. 1 (234) 567-8, even though all I wanted was to dial an 8-digit local phone number without any country/area codes. Is there any way to change this display behaviour?
2) Can we choose what fields to be displayed on the Contacts page? Currently, only the Name and phone number is being displayed in the Contacts list. Can we also perhaps choose to display the company name on the list as well? I have customers from different companies with the same names....would be good to be able to differentiate them at a glance.
Appreciate any help. Thanks.

coldfire is right....I changed the regional settings to English (Australia) and it's ok now.
Any ideas on how to add more fields when displaying the contacts list? Or are there any good replacement software?
Thanks.
See if PocketCM works on the Atom. I love it on my Wizard and Hermes.

Unable to dial using +44 codes. Is this normal?

Hi there,
MS Outlook on my desktop PC has all my contacts in +44 format (for some reason). Now I've synced my Trinity up, the contacts have transferred over in this format. When I try to dial the number the call doesn't connect. Instead T-Mobile thinks I am using keypad codes to toggle my voicemail.
I guess my questions are:
1. Is there a simple change I can make on the handset for it to accept +44 contacts? Or do I need to change them all back to 01753 etc.
2. If I *do* need to change them all back, will I be able to make international calls when I eventually make it abroad with this device? Or will I have to change back to +44.
3. Finally, if I'm abroad and use skype in a WLAN hotspot, will I need to use +44 or the regular UK dialling codes, say 01753?
Many thanks!
Ermmm it should "just work" tm.........
You havent accidentally added a 0 after the +44?
ie 01652 becomes +441652 and NOT +4401652
otherwise in windows have you checked you have set an area code anywhere? IIRC in the dialup section type thingy.
IF you change tham all to 01 etc then when you go abroad you need to drop the 0 and add +44
No idea about Skype
Personally all my contacts are a mixture of +44 or 01's depending whether I want to call them fom abroad or not and dont ever have an issue dialing them.
But hope the above is a little helpful
hi,
you're right. they all have a 0 after the 44. Outlook did this so i'm hoping it's fairly easy to remove them all as a global change.
thanks for helping me out.
at home now sitting in front of my pc.
can i get it to work?
no i cant.
outlook won't delete the first zero, ie (0)1753
the help section is a joke.
can anyone help please?
TIA
it seems that outlook on the pc is sensible enough to know to know if a number is dialled, the first zero is auto dropped.
but this is not the case with the handset. it will try and dial whatever numbers are in the contact fields (i think).
note: my handset is working. if i delete the preceeding +44, the number is called.
i've tried searching this site's for answers but to no avail.
has anyone else had this problem?
cheers
i'm either incredibly thick or MS office dont consult with MS Mobile.
sorry for multiple posts!
Remove all dialling rules and save all numbers using +44 xxxxyyyyyyyy. That's what I have done long time ago and it works fine. It also helps to deal with Italian numbers where you need to leave the 0 in when calling a fixed network number.
PS: I think you need to go through the manual editing process though
Thanks for the info. However I need to have my hand held with this.
"Remove all dialling rules"
Is this on my Desktop PC outlook or on the handset?
"save all numbers using +44 xxxxyyyyyyyy"
Have I got to re-enter every number on the Desktop PC outlook?
And do I include the first zero or leave it blank?
CHeers!

On the handheld: go to the Settings, Connections, Advanced, Dialing Rules and make sure "use dialing rules" is not selected.
Then go to Outlook on your PC and remove all zeros and all brackets from all numbers; put the numbers the same way you would dial them on the phone keypad (when calling from abroad). You don't need to re-enter all numbers, you need to edit them, which is just slightly less boring I am afraid.
Ops.... Are you also using your PC connected to a land line modem to dial numbers? I hope not because in that case it would not work as you cannot dial a "+" from a land line!

Brackets for the first 3 digits..

Hi guys
Need your help. My friend just got a D810/Trinity recently. He has English (Australia) as his setting. There wasn't any brackets for the phone number in the Contact before today, but suddenly, now there's brackets appearing. For e.g. (698)70948. In Singapore, there is no area code which needs to be in brackets.
Anyone know how to resolve this? We didn't want to select Chinese (Singapore) in the setting cos' we do not want Chinese character to be displayed.
i would change it to what i wanted in outlook delete contacts on the phone and sycn them back from outlook

Wrong Dialing Prefix

Please help!
I have having this problem which been bothering me.
The phone dial prefix was wrong. The format is (XXX) 123-12345
my country singapore format is (XX) 1234-1234
With this wrong format, it cannot display the correct contact.
Can someone please help
If you've just upgraded to WM6 then this is not surprising.
I had the same problem for UK numbers here at home. You need to change your regional options to reflect the country where you are.
Hope that helps!!
xavierng,
Go to Start -> settings -> system -> regional settings and select your region settings.
It should solve this
JP
I am not sure if the regional setting would define format for phone numbers.
Alternatively, open the Contacts and then click on 'Menu' and select 'Options...' Enter correct Area code there and you are done..

There is another simple solution for your problem:
Edit the phone WM6 registry, with a registry editor( you can download a freeware version anywhere)
Edit this register:
Record:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Phone\CallIDMatch
When you find it, change the decimal value from 8 to the desired number: eg 7 in my case.
Good luck !

Yes, it does.
The regional settings also include numbering format.
When you install the ROM the default regional settings are US so, it uses US numbering format, putting it on your region should solve the problem.
Try it out

I have tried this. It actually solved the Dialing prefix but it create another problem. My country is Singapore (chinese) thus the long date format give me alot of boxes. This affect my calender view.
By pass the whole issue by installing a 3 party PIM, I use Webis Pocket informant and format the numbers the way I like them +41 (123) 456 78 90.

I am trying to edit the registry in HKCU\ControlPanel\Phone but cannot find callidmatch.
Well you lost me, which is ok.
We here in switzerland had both XX and XXX as dial codes (untill we changed this year). I have never had a problem with that standard nor with USA +1 (xxx) yyy-zzzz or infact any other contry.
I sync from Outlook, my layout is how I want it on each contact and I use +CC on all contacts as I am out of the country a lot.
I think I surpress the auto format in Pocket Infromant, its one of the TONS of settings that you can use.
Good luck, sorry I could not help more.
