I am thinking about writing an app that accesses the Media Library and displays each album as a nice big icon (possibly thumbnails of the album art). It would make it much easier to navigate the library than the current version built into Media Player.
First off, does anyone know of anything similar to this that is already available? I dont want to waste my time on it if I dont need to.
Secondly, could anyone point me in the right direction on how to get started? I cant find any information about accessing the media library anywhere.
I'm newish to this programming malarky so any links to examples would be appreciated.
Cheers.

Is it possible to access the media library information stored in Media Player using C#?
I am quite new to .NET programming and thought it would be good to develop an alternative library viewer with nice big buttons (the built in one is really fiddly without using the stylus). However, I cant find any information anywhere on how to actually read the library data.
I know there are probably other media players out there that already have this feature but I like using media player and it is built in.
If someone can point me in the right direction, or at least tell me that it cant be done using .NET, that would be great.
Cheers

Search the Market, there's a lot of free apps there that you can choose from.

didn't find anything useful thats why i'm asking here maybe for some recomndetion
I'm using MixZing for playing music ...
funny these threads. listed as one of the main selling points of this device was mediascape. you must have read that but bought it anyway! did you not try the phone 1st? this is a prime example of why we all should! not having a go so dont start flaming! expressing my opinion. there is no app within the app store that will deliver anything near what mediascape does right now so for this phone its the best you gonna get! in time when custom roms are being made then we may see the likes of what htc have to offer. we are also currently lacking in apps that do offer more but hopefully corecodec will develop an app for android! until then and until custom roms are available i would just stick with mediascape. no matter how much you hate it, the alternatives are even worse!
edit:
some coredec images for the cp2.0 for android.

playlists
Sorry for hijacking this thread but my question is to do with mediascape.
Anyone figure out how to create playlists in mediascape yet?
The only thing I have found that comes close is starring tracks as favourites, but that only generates one list.
Am I missing something or is it not possible? Cheers.

Yeah... I don't think that's possible. Which kind of sucks but something I can live with. I mostly just use Spotify anyway.
And I also want to know about any good picture gallery. I had one but it wasn't really good at all.
Ah, fair enough. At least it's not me going daft. I was searching Google and the results were implying that you could generate lists but they must have meant that it could be done via media go software.
As far as media players go i would consider that to be a basic feature that is required (especially if you have a large library).
As for the gallery I can't say I'm too impressed with that either. However I did like the one previewed on the mini. Hopefully that will be included in future updates, if there are to be any.
Just typing this on the phone itself using the HTC keyboard. The only thing missing are the directional arrow keys, tapping the screen in the correct place is hit and miss for me.
You can generate Playlists with the Astro Filemanager, which you should have installed anyway...
Yeah I do have that instaled. I'll try that out. Cheers mate.
PiQture is pretty good photo viewer.
I found se's other music player in the phone but cant shortcut to it to use it easily.
Im using the file manager by nalic (green and blue pie chart icon). Navigate to system/media/audio/ringtones (ogg) and play one, a different player called music opens to play it, now leave the file playing and pull down the notification tray and touch the play icon then press the left menu key then library button and you are in.
Now this player will be listed in the recently used app list (hold middle button) unless it gets moved off the list by opening more than 6 more apps without opening it again to bring it to the front of the list.
I like this one better than mediascape as its less cluttered and straightforward and you can create playlists which are drag and drop editable and show up in mediascape.
It would be nice to get to it easier though.
There is also a video player and picture viewer but they are very simple with few options.

Hi
I found it too. I managed to create a shortcut on home with Tasker :

Hope this helps.
One of my main reasons for wanting the X10 is mediascape. Since I've only seen videos, and you guys actually have the X10... I'm looking forward to hearing why Mediascape is a poor media player and gallery. It certainly looks more robust and feature filled than any of the current media players I've seen.

it is possible but via media go I think, I spent ages trying to work out how to get a playlist set up but I think you have to literally set up a play list on your pc, then transfer that playlist on to the phone (?) only reason I say this is because there is a playlist option in the library in media go. Unfortunately I'd already moved my music across before noticing this so didn't want to double it up or remove it and start again.
I found an app called mortplayer which is free and works a charm for music

Or get a file manager from the market and follow my instructions above, any playlists created will be automatically integrated into mediascape.
Its easy once you suss it. !
Hi,
Anyone know how to disable the mediascape from caching thumbnail for music file ? I think this would vastly improve the speed, as mediascape would only have to read the tagging info and not the image/albumart.
I tried to set the folder as read only, but it doesn't work, the phone still write to it
Hi all - I've sussed this out (alternate Music player and playlists)... download an app called "AnyCut" from the market... in here you can add all sorts of different things.. one of which is under the "activity" option.. called "Music" this is the stock android music app (mentioned by baggyb above).. this way you'll have a link to the music app on your home page which you can then use to create your playlists...
All these work arounds to create playlist are fine but the main PIA is when I want to add tracks to Current Play list while listening to music. Can't be done. I hope SE will soon release a upgrade to address some of these basic issues.
Also, when you try to add contact as Shortcut on Home Screen it brings up list of all contacts and there is no search or 'letter' list on side to select the names. You can to scroll all the way down to select names. I guess SE QA and design team tested the phone only with one track of music and one contact in address book.
imlooking for an app that will let me stream video podcasts straight to my hd2
does anybody have any to recommend
I haven't found one yet. I'm still lookin
STREM!? how about you just copy/paste the link given in the RSS to your Kinoma play or core player, thats how I do it
I was hoping for something a little more simpler than that. maybe something with a channel feature? our at least something with a list to choose from. if we like multiple videos than why not have it all on one screen.
OKay, I have a really stupid questions to ask now. How do I COPY and PASTE?
I found something called "YomoMedia" and it does pretty much what I want it to do.
HOWEVER, when I try to copy the feed url from Opera, the text field in YomoMedia will not let me paste? Is there a keyboard shortcut for this? Or am I missing something?
Does anyone have any suggested techniques for copying MP3 or WMA files to the phone (SD or Internal memory)?
What I've discovered is that synching with Media Player will transfer over these hidden files (album art, desktop.ini, and folder.jpg). These hidden files seem to mess with the way the Sense music player is picking up the music and what ends up happening is that in the music players details view, it does indeed break up the artists and the albums etc. HOWEVER, in the default view (the one that shows the album covers) it doesn't know what to do and only shows you the album cover of the particular album you are listening too. There's no way to get to the other album without going into the details menu and selecting it from there.
Whew - SO, all that being said; what I found is that if I delete the album art, desktop.ini and folder.jpg files BEFORE manually dragging and dropping the music over to the phone it seems to resolve the problem.
So is there a more streamlined approach to doing this?

Put your INC in DISK DRIVE mode and copy your files to the SD card using Windows Explorer. You can also take out the SD card, put it in a reader, plug that into your PC's card reader, and put the files there via Windows Explorer.
Of course, all this presupposes that your MP3 files are correct (e.g., their ID3 tags are correct; and the album art was already integrated).
I use Tunesync, there're also isyncr, doubletwist, websharing....
The thing I like about these sync software is that they put your music in a playlist, which all the players can see.
First thing I would do is ditch the default android player though and stay away from Music PlayerPro too (just a skinned default player-same options same problems).
I am using bTunes, I think it's already abandon by the developer, but since it works and I already paid for it so might as well.
I recommend Mort Player if you don't look at it too much, Man!..that UI is just plain Ugly.
DoubleTwist is great. It also syncs your videos as well. Best part is it only syncs what you want. You create playlists and it syncs based on their contents

Thanks...
Thanks for the info everyone. I guess the bottom line is that music software on Android is still in infancy stages with a lot of options but nothing that really just stands out. I hate to admit it but looks like Apple has a (+) in this department for now. My Incredible is a filler phone to hold me over until with WINMO7 stuff starts to hit Verizon so just looking for the best combinations of software on this thing.
I'm totally new to Android but I would have thought that the folks over at Google would have taken the media experience a little more seriously and spent some time on those aspects out of the box.

Google was doing fine, 2.1 was solid. It uses up battery like there's no tomorrow, but solid.
2.2 seem like it's coded by 5 year olds... in Mongolia...using Vtech's Vsmile system....during recess. Maybe that's why the battery last longer, nothing works. Could be a way to make us pay for third-party apps (free enterprise at work).
Bus, now that's just plan 'ol funny. Educational (for me) at the same time.
I use the free version of Media Monkey on my Win XP desktop and Meridian on my Dinc. Then I sync playlists (like I used to on my iPhone 3G). Works like a champ.
The iPhone is far superior in the music catagory (dsp, organization, genius) but u have to keep inmind it stemed from an ipod. That said the closest ive come to it is boomboxoid but its terribly slow and often unresponsive. Which is why i primarily use pandora now...an ipod like music player is the app i want most!

I've mentioned bTunes above. It's the exact replica of the iPhone/iPod player.
I feel like Amazon skates the edge of really delivering on the tablet/cloud stuff, but the constant huge oversights keep it from taking off.
I've recently been frustrated, because I have been uploading my entire music collection to the Amazon CloudDrive, so I can stream it at work and on my Fire at home. Great idea - the only problem is, with the Fire's emphasis on iconography (the carousel continually shows gigantic icons of recently used apps), when I stream music, half the time I stare at a blank cover.
Is there any way to do some sort of ID3 editing in the CloudPlayer? Half of the music I've uploaded shows up with missing or no cover art, although I set covers in iTunes before uploading.
As a side note, it's little things like this that really piss me off with Amazon. I love the Fire, but not being able to change the lockscreen, edit album info, edit personal document titles and authors, etc, are little things that could go a long way.
The only solution I've seen for this is below. Personally, I find the cover art annoying and don't bother, just list the titles and artists. Don't use the KF default launcher either so I don't see the carousel either.
From one of the amazon forums:
SOLUTION
Album art can be embedded into the file. Extra 10kb-30kb for 250x250 JPGs doesn't matters. Also MP3 file contains internal information (Tags) that is used by systems like Amazon to organize the collection. Name of the file is irrelevant.
To add album art and edit tags I used the free program TagScanner. There are many tag editors, but I found this to be the sexier.
To fix this; first download what is wrong, delete it from the cloud, fix it in your computer and upload it again.

but doing it on the cloud itself... no.
