the same question (as on top of the topic) about Wallaby
Will this sollution also work for Wallaby devices?
1) with out winmodem?
2) with winmodem?
and one more: the download link for USBMODEM driver does not work... can you please point to the current place or attach it?
If you use activesync 4 I think you might be able to share the internet connection via the network connection created by activesync. Just a thought tho, never tried this myself.

Well, you can specify the IP address of the computer that has to act as the host for the shared internet connection. So if you would fill in the PDA's IP ......... guess it's worth a shot

WHY DOSN'T Activesync work?????
I can put up with Activesync not working under VPC on my Mac but I CANNOT put up with it not Activesyncing with a brand new 2 month old IBM laptop running XP Pro and all the latest patches.
Is it the phone that is at fault or Microsoft or a combination?????
My old PDA2K Activesyncs fine on BOTH VPC and the IBM so why not this device?
Anyone PLEASE HELP ME.......
Robin
Are you using ActiveSync v.4.1?
If it is a Windows Mobile 5 device (Wizard, Universal) instead of a Windows Mobile 2003SE Device, you need a minimum version 4.1 of ActiveSync
Yup it is a Wizard and I am using AS 4.1.
I have tried Firewall on, off, VPN on, off.
I have de-installed and re-installed 4.1.
Still NOTHING.
The Laptop see's new hardware, says it has installed okay and then AS does NOTHING.!!!!!!!!
Robin
in my case it was the firewall
you sure both your windows and software firewall is off?
also check in network connections that your phone network connection is connected
what happens in activesync... errors? does it display its trying to sync ? just "it is not syncing" doesnt help
If the laptop sees the device as new hardware and not the actual device it means that you do not have active Synch 4.1 or that the installation was borked . because 4.1 includes the drivers for this phone to be recognized by windows.. so if you had 4.1 it would show your phone name and then it might not have worked , but not the way you are describing it now.
Also you might wanna put up a bit more objective title when posting something like this if you want psotive feedback instead of flamez...
very good point avocaz
totally missed the point that it does detect but possibly does not install which would be down the active sync 4.1 not being there

1. Certainly I turned off the Windows Firewall, don't know about any other Firewall. HOWEVER the fact my PDA2K can connect surely rules out a Firewall problem?
2. Don't know how to do this? I am a Mac user and am using XP JUST to sync my phone.
3. Nothing happens in Activesync. I get the normal, bing bong chime. but the AS icon does not turn green or open.
If I manually open AS and tellit to cennect it cannot find an attached PDA.
On the other hand if I attach my PDA2K I get the bing bong, the icon turns green, AS opens fine.
Is that clearer?
Is there any more info you need?

But surely the fact that when I connect my PDA2K AS 4.1 opens and works indicates it IS there and working?
If I check its version it says 4.1?
AS 4.1 is the first instal of AS on this machine, never had an earlier version on it.
Sorry about the title but I guessed I would at least get some response with it.
I am pulling my hair out here and don't want to return the phone but without a computer connection it is totally useless to me.
Robin
Its not your desktop. Its the AS client on the device itself that causes these problems. Apparently, the next ROM Update is supposed to fix all AS issues. Just hold on till mid-Jan.

Sounds reasonable HOWEVER if I cannot get the damn thing to connect to a PC I am never going to be able to laod the new rom to fix the problem it won't connect to a pc, so I won't be able to connect ot a PC ...........
I am losing it big time...
How would I install the update without a PC connection?
Robin
Use the wifi to download the rom ? Sorry your having problems but this phone definately doesnt stink. Havent put mine down since Christmas day .... the wife is definately not pleased. She keeps giving it daggers
Okay
My FIRST bit of success.
I found out my laptop has a IRD port and the phone HAS connected via this so it is most certainly a USB issue.
Now the question is can a rom update be done of IRD or does it need to be the USB connection?
Robin
PS WiFI download would not help as the rom needs to be loaded FROM a PC.
Just a thought, but are you connecting via a usb hub?
Best not to, and I find always using the same usb socket also helps...

DO NOT INSTALL ROM UPDATE VIA IR.
It should be done via USB ONLY. Thats one of the main instructions in the ROM update page that pops up on executing the RU file.
I had problems because of the ports. AS4.X needs a hand full of ports to communicate with the PPC, in my case TCP Port 990 was already in use.

HOw do I check this, I am not very PC Literate.
I am much more used to a Mac where things normally 'just work' :?
I have just noticed a couple of things following some of the Microsoft trouble shooting guide.
If I have AS open on the KJAM it shows the spinning green button and that it is trying to connect, still nothing on the PC end.
HOWEVER what I did notice on the PC end in Device Manager is that a Windows mobile-based device appears under netowrk connectors.
So SOME KIND of connection IS happening.
Robin
PS Many thanks for being a sounding board for me and your helpful ideas, it is very much appreciated, I just wish I was making more progress.
Let me set the record straight.
This phone does NOT stink. The more I use it the more I like it.
Certainly it is a big improvement over my PDA2K in size and usability.
HOWEVER I still cannot get it to connect to my laptop and I am getting so frustrated cause its the last thing left for me before I really start to LIKE this phone..............
Any more ideas out there because I have tried everything I can think of with no luck at all except via IRDA.
Robin
hows the conection done? hopefully usb?
what setting / software are needed on the lappy and tytn?
if at all it can be done?
You can do it through USB, Bluetooth or IrDA.
These instructions are for universal, but the same applies for TyTN:
BlueTooth
IrDA
USB

DUN
Is there a way to use DUN now that it's been disabled because of Internet Sharing?
New Tyten and Vista
Ok, I've been through the 3 ways to connec as a modem, I actually manged to connect ages ago with XP.
I now have a new Tyten, well new for the states but probably old in the rest of the world.
Anyway the New Tyten has a thing called Internet Sharing instead of wireless modem
None of the old settings are there anymore.
It also has a new way to connect via Blue Tooth Pan.
I've tried the Pan way but I had no luck, the connection seemed to work but I couldn't get on the internet.
I then tried USB, I couldn't get Vista to recognise the Tyten, even when I turned off the active synch, anybody got any ideas????
with Vista and WM6 internet sharing I think its easier than DUN. there is a whole how to in the help program on your hermesjust open the help app and search for internet sharing. just make sure your phone and laptop are connected via bluetooth and then open the internet sharing app and click connect make sure its set to bluetooth PAN. on my laptop I have a little bluetooth icon when its on so I right click that and then connect via persoanl network and then a little pop up pops up and I click on the connect bottun and it connects in about 15 seconds pretty easy! I know for USB you have to open the WMDC connection settings and uncheck allow usb connections.
Thanks
Cheers for that, I'll give it a go, although to be honest I've been trying it all afternoon..
I get the connection but no Internet connection..
Help Still needed
Ok, the plot thickens, I found drivers on the HTC Europe site to connect your Hermes to Vista.
I uninstalled all of the previous active synch hardware and also thre previous modem
When I plug the phone in it doesn't open the new downloads.
Any ideas, I'm running Windows 5.1, is there an official Windows 6 I can update to?

Hello everyone, Ive searched but come across no help
Im using a Cingular 8525 with the 2.06 firmware and windows vista ultimate. I cant get my computer to connect to it for Dial up networking. My phone allows it to use it (its an option on the phone/laptop when pairing) but it does not connect! It keeps giving me errors. I have tried to enable "Bluetooth DUN instead of USB in the internet sharing app, but nothing changes.
Also, how can I get Windows Mobile Device Center to access my phone via bluetooth? Thank you!!!
can anyone offer assistance? thanks
Anyone at all? This is driving me nuts! I even used two different bluetooth drivers in my vista pc...but still nothing. it works via usb, but not bluetooth. Help???

can you give us your step by step instructions on how to do that?
Id even be ok with getting it to read with a USB cable... After upgrading to WM6, I lost sync support for Vista...
I always take my time before jumping into anything new, On my experience bugs take a while to be sorted out and fixed.
My advice, stick to XP and WM5 for a year at least, then it would be a lot safer to upgrade.
So I'm writing this from my PC using the Internet Sharing option of the X7500.
I'm going to explain how to use it but first off all I beg your pardon because since my ROM is in spanish I have no idea of the names of the programs and the messages that the WWE ROM gives so I'm translating the spanish messages and programs names into english. Apart of that eventualy my english goes nuts.
So...
First off all you need to have a plan to get data access on your X7500 on a reasonable price. I got Movistar (a company in Spain) that allows me to access using WSDPA where available per around 60 euros a month. If WSDPA is not avaible I can enter the net using UMTS or if not available I can still accessing using GPRS.
Hopefully in the village I'm on holidays (15000 people near Cadiz coast) I got WSDPA coverage.
Second thing. If you have Blackberry on the X7500 just use the Suspend option in order to avoid BB interfering with the Internet Sharing.
Third. If the PC has ActiveSync go into options and unmark the USB in order to avoid the AS connecting the X7500 using USB.
The PC running XP don't need any driver to use the connection.
1) With the X7500 NOT plugged to PC run the Internet Sharing program in the PDA.
2) You will find two combo-boxes. At the first one choose USB. I did the connectiong using BT too and works great but I prefer USB since looks more stable and is suitable to use in any PC even not having BT interface. At the second combo-box choose your profile to access the net. My is Movistar Access... is a name you gave while configuring the profile.
3) Still having the X7500 NOT plugged to the PC press the Connect which is the soft-key in the left side of the screen. You will see the PDA negotiating with the ISP.
4) Once connected then plug the USB cable and the XP will start to recognize the PDA as a Internet Sharing device. First time takes long XP to connect the PDA. As soon as you get the message that the new hardware is usable you can start using Internet Explorer in the PC to access the net thru the X7500.
At the PC in a MSDOS window I need to run a continous ping to a site in order to keep the connection alive. For sample ping -t www.google.com
Whatever the reason if I don't issue the ping the connection hangs if I keep on reading a web page for long time. I tried to find where this timeout is configured but I could. But with the ping to keep alive the connection works great.
In order to disconnect properly my advice is:
1) Close all PC programs running against Internet like Internet Explorer or the ping you are issuing.
2) Unplug the USB cable
3) Press the Disconnect soft-key in the PDA
Unplugging the cable before hitting Disconnect helps to avoid the XP seeing the PDA without the Internet Sharing running.
As I told I run the test using the Bluetooth PAN connection too and works great. My BT interface in the PC is a Concentronic CBTU2 (is USB not bigger that an USB key). And the BT software is IVT Corporation Bluesoleil but I guess any BT interface and software will do the job too.
I hope this is useful.
Best Regards,
mahjong
P.D.: If someone knows how to solve the timeout stuff let me know.
Thanks for the detailed tutorial. I've been wanting to try this for when I'm doing presentations and don't have an internet connection. Your English was just fine.
I've also been meaning to try this out, and your post prompted me to do so.
After I press the 'connect' softkey, the status changes to 'check usb cable'.
I then connect the usb cable, and the PC starts the Found New Hardware Wizard, which starts to search for Generic RNDIS drivers. It fails to find them, even using windows update.
And that's as far as I got....
Have you installed Activesync (XP) or WMDC (VIsta)?
Internet sharing uses the drivers from that to create the connection.
Problem solved, with the help of google.
I had activesync 3.8 on my laptop, upgrading to 4.5 has solved the problem, and it all works perfectly now.
mahjong,
What version of BBConnect are you using with your x7500? Did you have to cook your rom to make it work?
I have tried 2.1.2.52 and 4.0.0.67 but both show PIN: Pending and IMEI: Radio Off. I trying not to go through reflashing everything to make this work.
BTW, I'm from Asturias but living now in sunny caribbean.

I'm using 2.1.2.54 over WM5 SO 5.1.465 (15673.3.3.1). I installed BB 4 (don't remember the release) once and the X7500 went nuts so I should hard-reset. But 2.1.2.54 works stable for me for months. OK I forgot to mention I'm connecting to a BES server so is not Blackberry Professional. Mine is Blackberry Enterprise.

My PC runs XP, so... ActiveSync.
I recently successful upgrade my GENE to WM 6.1 because i had many problems.
One of my problems is how to connect my GENE to my PC thru Bluetooth connection, my PC has WIFI connected to router at home.
i searched forums too much for accurate steps to do so, and i think it is a good idea to help all ppl here if i got a clear procedure to do so here.
Thanks in Advance.
I have no time to explain step-by-step here, but the first thing you have to do is make activesync works with bluetooth. When you are done, you could open PIE or opera and access the internet.

Any how, i appreciate your reply.
i'll try to google about this solution.
thanks a ton
Its very easy. I do it all the time.
Make sure BT is on on both PC and phone.
open activesync on phone and right softkey-> connect via bluetooth.
if they aren't paired you'll get the standard pairing screen etc.
now, when pairing make sure activesync is open on the desktop. And make sure activesync-> connection settings on the PC has 'allow connection to one of the following set to the correct COM port for BT (mine is COM12) Ideally, after doing this right, you should have 'activesync' appear as one of the services that your desktop can provide via BT.
Accept and repeat the first step
Note: If you get a dialog asking if serial connection should be made then accept it. (will come on PC)
once connected go to activesync on the PC. In options, select 'The internet' as the network the PC is connected to.
Just play around with the basic settings.
One thing to note is that you might have to configure the COM port on activesync in the desktop.
I set the COM ports up once long ago (purely by trying every combo there was) and forgot exactly how. I think it'll vary from PC to PC. However, I've been re-pairing a lot over and over again cause I've been trying out a lot of different ROMs... And I've not needed to change the COM port settings even once.
Basically, all you need is to connect to activesync via BT and you'll be able to use you's PC's connection on the phone.
This is for XP btw. Vista is mostly similar. I think its more straightforward though... most of the things are done automatically.
Hope it helped
Ya, follow charge1313's advice and if you dont get internet access even after this, download the attached registry file and double click it on your PC and reboot. This will enable the functionality, sometimes it gets disabled specially if you install Windows Vista Service Pack 2.

SP2 was released on 26 May to public. To get it, go here :
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/dd262148.aspx
Size depends on the download you choose, for 32bit machines its 348 MB in size.
Installing it freshened up my 1 year old Vista installation a bit, it became a little speedier. To tell you about the changes, the only thing i have noticed myself is the change of bluetooth stack to version 2.1 of bluetooth standard. The whole interface of bluetooth, the dialog boxes etc are also changed to a bit leaner looking ones
Both ways working .............
