Windows Mobile 5.0 upgrade for XDA IIi - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Hi,
does any one know where can i get Windows Mobile 5.0 upgrade for XDA 2i?
Is it possible to upgrade if ROM is not available right now in future?
tia for comments

there is not any 2005 for IIi
that i know off
the official word from the people who sell the alpine / andes which the IIi a part of is that there will never be an 2005 update for it
so unless it's leaked like the himalaya version
or if somebody manage to move the rom from himalaya to other htc devices
then it will never be possible

Hi There,
thanks for reply.
so sofar only Windows Mobile 5.0 ROM is available for only XDA II ?
no other O2/HTC Models ( Pocket PC Phone) has Windows Mobile 5.0 ROM ?

well the himalaya is leaked as in it was never supposed to have gotten out from htc
and the official words from imate who also oem these devices along with o2, tmobile....
then there will be no 2005 for any of the current devices
the first 2005 device will be the utms phone called universal which will be prob be released this fall
there is also an 2005 smartphone rom leaked for the thyphone smartphone

hmm.. :x
seems like its good to buy a second hand XDA II and upgrade ROM to windows mobile.. :-( compared to buying new XDA IIi. :?
i wonder why HTC/O2/ is doing this.. :?:

why do you think 2005 is that important ?
it's more about having the latest and greatst
much software still run on ppc 2000 and even earlier
your device will continue to work for a long time if you just stick with your current 2003 or 2003SE

Maybe because WM2005 is:
More stable
Looks nicer
Easier to use
Better UI as a phone
Better Office support
And now Buzz has finally merged the Disk on Chip partitions to get 32mb persistant storage, it's even better as you will never lose your data if the batteries run down

WM2005 for JAM? Doubt it.

Strange how O2 and Orange have decided they're not going to release the 'Magician' aka O2 mini/MDA compact/I-Mate JAM/Orange M500 here in the UK. I'm wondering if its because WM2005 devices are right around the corner and this little gem won't be upgradable because it doesn't have the juice (memory/cpu) to run it...
I've come close 3 times now to buying one from T-Mobile.. but something just doesnt seem right.. think I'll wait a bit longer. T-Mobile is selling them like hotcakes.. o2 & orange must have a very good reason not to release these here and thats why Im thinking they're something 'special' on the horizon.
what do you guys think?
i think they want to release it with a new device.. just like what they did with the WM2003SE they didn't release any upgrades.. instead a new device..... who knows

At work, we run with Windows 2000 Server. Who cares that there's a 2003 version? The 2000 version does everything we want.
And isn't 2005 version of Windows Mobile going to be released in 2005, ages away?
I think people can tend to get a little wrapped up in what's just not available yet. 2nd edition Windows Mobile is going to be viable for some time yet, and is a bloody capable O/S. I know this won't be upgradeable, and just don't care...
I say get it now, there is always going to be something else you want tomorrow. Wait for that, and then something else is on the horizion.
I had an XDA II as I liked the PDA/phone idea but in practise it didn't work for me. The thing is just too big to be taken seriously as a phone, so I never used it. Tried things like the SE 910i and various Smartphones. None did the job. The SPV C500 is great, but I need a touchscreen on my pda.
So have just moved to the Jam and it is like a whole new world! It is a fabulous device and changed the way I think of and use a phone.
Cheers
Marc
Go for Jam....i have been using SE P900, moto mpx300 and Jam....I feel Jam outperformed all of them. P900 is more towards a phone....
Why you ask? Because WM2005 phones will be able to run out of battery and not have to be reconfigured (LIKE A NORMAL PHONE). Nothing is lost due to the way it uses the memory. That alone is reason enough for me, it would be nice to have to mess around the Extended ROM all the time or make backups every day for fear of losing everything. I don't have time for that these days.
WM2005 is supposedly due in the summer, and surely HTC is testing it on the replacement for the JAM as we speak.
HTC releasing a replacement for the JAM at these early stages of the JAM's life would be a suicide. What HTC want is to get as many JAM sales as possible, then release a replacement phone for us to buy another one!

Magician 2 ... rumours rumours!!

Don't know if this old news for some ...
http://www.theunwired.net/./?itemid=2696
An identical device to the Magican with WM5, WiFI, 128MB and 2 replaced buttons!
I spoke to our logistics manager today (TMUK) and he confirmed that the Compact II looks the same as the original with Windows 5 OS. Didn't have anymore tech specs to hand although don't be surprised if some more case colours appear. If I get anymore info I'll update.
BulletTime,
many thanks for your reply. Looks like we might get the long awaited WM5 through "official" channels then!
Hence my excitement!
Athena anyone?
I'm not entirely sure if this is the Athena or not. I heard rumours that this could be the athena but I also heard rumours of an athena that has a different shape than the Magician altogether. I think we'll have to wait and see ...
Could be the HTC Prophet
German tmobile also claims a new release of our mdacompact should appear before christmas. And "yes" they say its planned to be equipped with WM2005 wlan and 128mb.
Greetings

So Compact II will be a S110 with windows mobile 5.0? Nothing more, nothing less? Well, at least i think we'll be able to install its rom in our magician in short times!!!
Oh Prophet, we are u???
Bye
Could you please scan page 12 and link it for us?
Or at least tell us what further information about the MDAcII is given on page 12?
Edit:
It seems that the missing page/information is given here.
That's great, because we could use the firmware and have wm5 on our magican i suppose... If anyone have the solution for that please provide us with it.thx

wm2005 on XDA Wallaby

Anyone put Windows mobile 2005 on a Wallaby yet?? It has the same processor as the HTC Startrek / Cingular 3125. Just wondering.
no roms have to be made for the full harware setup not just the cpu
and the 2005 roms i know of as all leaked in versions made 100% for the device they are running on
doubt 2005 was ever made for walaby mainly because it dont have flash ==
no storage at all would be possible
Even if there was WM5 for Wallaby, it would REALLY stretch your patience - heck, even devices like the Atom with 416MHz have people complaining about slowdowns, though this probably due to its use of Flash ROM rather than RAM.

OFFICIAL WM6 Coming to SPV M3100

Having spoken to HTC Europe they have confirmed a new firmware release for the Orange SPV M3100 due in april / may, this release will be WM6 / Crossbow (I asked specifically)
Unsure as to whether there are any extras / enhancements planned so far but it should be interesting.
(Orange were unable to let me know of any planned firmware releases and gave me the number for HTC as - to quote orange - "They build the devices and build the firmware upgrades for us, we have no information on the systems at present but they would be able to help you further")
Would be nice however experience would suggest that hope rather than expectation is the better bet......
meh i won't hold my breath
I lol'd
I would assume that WM6 uses more processor and memory than WM5 (to stick with Microsoft tradition ) so if so how does it fair in that respect?
It's pretty pointless for me to upgrade to WM6 (even if it was possible) to find the device too slow for use.
At the moment it's surviving, but there are still a few small outstanding issues, but I think there always will be with software like this.....

I have stepped up from the stock M3100 orange uk rom to xda live2.0 and now to WM Black 1.2. I seem to have an odd issue on soft resetting which is documented in the relevent thread. I suspect it is to do with some of the software I am running. General responsiveness of WM6 is in my opinion much better than I had with the original set up. I would not go back - it is much more like what I expected it would be when I ordered the phone.

X1 WM6.5 / 7 Update

Hi Guys
New to this and have to say what a forum but can anyone answer this little pain in the **** Q. Will we be able to update to wm6.5 or 7 as its making me think twice about getting my X1 when O2 finaly re stock. The last thing I need i a 18mth contract on a out of date phone........
R
Stu
6.5 might but SE is known for not releasing updated OS's for their phones. You can probably get it with a cooked ROM. 7 will be a no-no, as it will mostly require an accelerometer in the phone.
I doubt you'll be able to upgrade to 7 if it needs multitouch screen, but can't see why 6.5 would be a problem unless that also needs it..
18months, wm7 might be released by then, but is it really likely?
looks like IE6 is a no go so I am realy starting to wonder if we will see a 6.5 update would i be better off with a HTC touch HD?

Why is it?
theres an early build of IE6 out there, it needs to be cooked into a rom.
A couple of other older devices already have roms released with IE6 in them, the HD and the xperia have pretty much the same internals.
Looking to upgrade to Internet Explorer 6 Mobile (also known as Pocket Internet Explorer 6 or PIE 6) for Windows Mobile? Well, get a new handset! Microsoft is taking a stance that the new browser will require more advanced hardware according to Pocket PC Thoughts.
"Regarding making IE Mobile available as a separate download or update, the rich media experiences that IE Mobile 6 enables require more powerful, advanced devices. That is why it will not be available as an upgrade or direct download for current phones, but rather will be made available on new phones."
So there you have it. No separate installer, no IE 6 Mobile cab installer, and no "updates" pushed out through HTC, AT&T, Verizon, or whatever carrier you have. Microsoft and its partners want you to purchase new phones to support these new "rich media experiences" promised by the new browser.
Looks like some ROM cooking is going to be needed.........

nothing new there, doesn't mean you need a new phone, just the usual MS drivel...
Michyprima has it working on the Athena, which is nearly 2 years old, so I can't see it being a problem on the X1 which is a lot more powerful.

Of course fennec will be out in (beta at least) soon, and if it works as well as it's fullblown sibling IE6 will become increasingly irrelevant.
Can some one help me out with understanding windows 7 mobile please?
how can it be multitouch?
i thought that apple had a patent that said they have the rights to a multi touch devices?
or is that just for a limited ammount of time?
why shouldnt the x1 be capable of multitouch too?
I think the real one to worry about is 6.5 as 7 looks like 2010 from what i can make out 7 needs a G sensor and the x1 has not got one.... I am starting to think this phone is out dated as it should have come out in feb...... As for the iphone well i dont think they have any rights to a screen.
An HP tablet with multi-touch was announced the other day so I don't think Apple have exclusive rights to it...
wm7 will come in many diffrent versions.
Ppl are claiming stuff in this thread that has no root in reality.
Here is a nice rule for daily use:
"Stop commenting about what you dont know"
cheers
I got my info from Pocket PC so dont take it as the hole truth but really the only question i have is will we see the 6.5 update as lets face it come wm7 sony will be on the x8 or 9 i work for a sony dealer in the uk and we still dont know......

lol, thats true. Thats how it always will be
Is there any reason to believe WM7 would actually improve on what the X1 is already running anyway?
Granted WM6 was a HUGE improvement over WM5 on my Wizard. But you cannot assume that the improvements will always be that noticable.
ok i think we all have some good points and yep lets face it you have got to jump in some time. Really i think the guys are going to stick with this and when need will get a wm6.5 rom up and running. So on that note its back to the O2 web site hitting refresh all day every day until its back in stock!! Anything has got to be better than my old N95 as i have had it from day 1...........

Tons of reason..****, even 6.5 promises to be a massive improvement. WM6 was built for PDAs using a stylus. 6.5 is likely going to be a completely revamped UI along with bug fixes and likely better memory management which is another thing that is a problem with WM6. Basically 6.5 will see vast improvement for touch screen using fingers and there should no longer be a need for a stylus. WM7 will be beyond this and offer new ways to control your device. Multiple input support not only using an accelerometer, but potentially built in cameras etc. WM7 is poised to be a major advancement in the way you interact with your hand held device.

Source? or speculation
Now that 6.5 is out of beta and officially released, i wonder how long it takes before a non beta cooked 6.5 version comes out.... really hoping for that one hehe
