Yea you can do it with the XDATools program!
For more info. on XDATools read:

normally an .nbo extension means that the file is the bootloader part, not the Windows CE part.
An .nbo file should hae a size of 256 k, while an .nb1 file is around 32 meg.
my .nb0 file size is 32 MB
I normally have an aversion to blindly changing the extension on files, especially when they are going to be used in a ROM upgrade, but I think you want to change the extension to .nb1. I would suspect that the bootloader wouldn't know what to do with a 32 meg .nb0 file.
i'll try that... thanks
you may also want to check your file using 'splitrom.pl'
it will try to determine what is contained in your file.
to be safe, convert it to a 'sure' nb1 by typing
Code:
perl splitrom.pl yourunknownfile.xxx -wo truenb1.nb1
i'm not familiar with perl scripts and i don't use linux
i'm using win xp
is there a way to do this using win xp?
thanks
Qman... I tried using XDAtools and it didn't work. OSImageTool didn't recognize the file's format.
Any thought?

Thats real strange I just copied an image with the same extension to a SD card without any problem, oh wait I used XDArit 1.0 and not XDATools.
So I'll give XDATools a try when I get off work tonight and post how that went.
BTW the file I used was a boot loader backup ROM and then I used XDArit to copy it from the SD card to hard drive and I named/saved that file as xdarom.nb0 then I used XDArit to write it back to the SD card, bingo no problem!
BTW Toshiro thats why I had ask you to send a copy of that file to see if I could write it disk, but since you didn't I just created one myself and it worked.
Can somebody else give this a try and see if it also works for you.

b) it is good or bad to change it?
c) does ppc2002 programs run on wm2003?
d) i Cooked rom on yorch page, but at log i see errors:

does this rom made success or no?
and finnaly how to step by step upgrade system using activesync and USB dock station for XDA1 O2....
I hope someone will help ...
Regards
Adam
a) you knew by now ... yorch.net
b) depends on your needs. 2003 is good with GPRS and SMS handling, but miss the Wmodem s/w for example. In general, 2002 is much more stable (no major problems encountered since I went for 4.01.00 tho)
c) most of them do, but heard few stories about some incompatibility
d) I didn't use the kitchen for awhile now, but some people got this error but with a second try it should work fine.
Note: 4.00.05 is a good choice if your XDA is not TMO device
how?
I kitchen NK.nb1 file using yorch and...
I got XDAtools from Xda-developers (full package with programme A)
only thing i dont have is SD card reader and COM cable.
I want to upgrade OS using USB station ... its possible? secure? no problems will be?
should i point into nk.nb1 file and transfer it to device rom directly?
or move nk.nb1 file to sd card (using normal active sync explorer but what to do next?)
Regards
Adam
PS> i dont want to upgrade radio stack , it works fine , the nk.nb1 file doesynt touch it?
Why don't you try the EXE method first ? ... it's much simpler. However, using .nb1 with XDAtools will be almost the same process.
Yes, .nb1 files doesn't touch the RSU
hum
i cooked exe file wchich is 150kb , and the nk.nb1 file is 32mb , so its wery weird ...
the PROGRAMME A readme saying :
Known issues:
Do not upgrade through USB hub, it will cause communication error.
thats why im askin for other possibilities
HELP!
Adam
Yes there is something wrong. The EXE file should not be less than 15 MB.
You better try once more later. Sometimes there might be system problems on the kitchen server.
how about?
How about this problem that only thing i have is USB dock station...
May be something wrong when i want to upgrade os using it?
Other ways maybe?
Regards
PS> please fast ansfer ... i need to do it in 1h :/
adam
Using .nb1 file with XDAtools is the same as using the EXE method (if you open the EXE with Winzip you should see the .nb1 file inside!).
Without having SD reader/writer on your PC, you are stuck with either the EXE method or to use XDAtools.
1- Go back to the kitchen and cook an .exe rom (RUU). The size must be at least 15MB. When downloading the upgrades, make sure that the download was complete (watch the size)
2- After totally charging battery, back up personal data and applications, remove the SIM card, make a standard hard reset, then put the XDA in the cradle. Cancel the synchronization at this point.
3- Install the RUU (you cooked). Do not touch the device all through the installation process.
4- In the end, remove it from the cradle, make a hard reset (twice, separated by 1 minute)
5- Better complete startup settings (mainly owner information and device id name in Settings/About) before putting in the cradle
6- Put it again in the cradle, synchronize.
OPTIONAL: If needed (and available !), install the RSU upgrade. Do not touch the device all through the installation process. In the end, remove it from the cradle, make a soft reset: the installation process continues. Do not do anything but wait till the end.
Put SIM back. Sof reset.
If you have XDATools you can copy a .nb1 or .nbf file to the SD card with the XDA in the cradle. Then you'd use the Wallaby bootloader to install the upgrade from the SD card. I've read too many tales of woe from a failed .EXE upgrade to ever try that route with a cooked ROM.
Another advantage of XDATools is that writing to the SD card is sigfnificantly faster than using the SD Card reader method with XDArit.
If you use XDATools in this way you don't need an SD card reader, nor do you need to play with Programme A.
Just my 2 cents...
OK!
Everything worked fine when i upgraded to 4.00.05 ENG using kitchen .exe
BOOYAH!
is there 4.01.00 ENG (no t-mobile) avail?
Regards
Adam
no... as far as I know... CMIIW
I Syncronized the XDAUNLOCK to my AT&T SX56 but when I tried to run it I got "error getting unlock code" can you help...
Thanks
Backup your existing rom to sd card, install developers rom special edition, this will unlock the phone, then flash original rom from sd using bootloader method.
need to unlock sx56
is there another method to install developers rom special edition b/c i tried to cook up a new rom after being redirected to www.yorch.net but 1st my rom version at&t A.30.09 eng is not listed does it mean i can't do it
2nd i used the 3.17.03 ENG O2-Euro hoping to overwrite mine but i could only create an exe not an nk.nb1 or the .nbf file
from this new kitchen http://xda.weblink.net/ i was able to create a nk[1].nb1 rom made by chosing my current rom version does anyone know if it will unlock my phone
we getting ready to move to an area where att has no signal so i will need to stop my service with them and sign up with another provider ...

i extracted the exe file to a new folder but there was not an .nbf file or at least i couldn't find one :?: :!: :?:
thanks
there is a subfolder named english. The NK lives there.
i found the nbf file i had to extract onto itself
i'm using the bootloader to do flash the new rom to my phone
i'm at the step where the device is suppose to recognize a new rom on my sd card
i copied the nbf file using xdarit
i plugged the card back into the pda
now i start the wallaby bootloader im running v5.15 it supposedly should recognize the new rom well the instructions say to copy the .nb1 file on the card but with the extraction method i could only get a .nbf is that why it's not being recognized
thanks
thanks guys my phone is free .... free as in unlocked
these are the steps i took
someone can do in 30 mn what i did in 1 day
-backed up my rom onto a sd card with wallaby bootloader v5.15
-using the xdarit i downloaded my old rom on my PC
-cooked a new rom with xdaunlock at yorch.net
-couldn't create a .nb1 or .nbf file so i took the .exe rom
-with winzip extracted the newly dowloaded rom onto itself to get the nk.nbf file to be flashed (when i extracted it on a new folder there was no nk file listed, so i went back to the kitchen cooked another rom saved the exe "et voila")
-i couldn't get the newly upgraded rom to be recognized when using the bootloader
-downloaded the xdatools to copy the nk file on sd card (i was unable to pick my sd card reader as a destination -weird stuff) so i did this
-from the english folder Abbas is talking about above i right click the nk file to copy it to SD card and xdatools was launched automatically
-plugged the sd card in the phone and started the bootloader v5.15 and instantly the rom on the sd card was recognized
-press action to download it
-cold reboot ( the battery on/off, erase all)
Re: thanks guys my phone is free .... free as in unlocked

Maybe they should downgrade their radio, then unlock and then upgrade the radio and rom again. I think that is the new tool cgigate developed!
I am a newbie, can you kindly tell me how to flash rom by SD card in detail. because my bootloader is 5.17. i can't go back to 2002 rom use the xdatool.
thanks!
Hi mate,
plz check this thread ... let me know if you still have problems
note: XDAtools replaced XDrit tool ... so you can follow the same steps.
Thanks you very much, before I flashed the T-M 401.16 rom, I have backup my 2002 rom as .NB1 file, is it possible to copy it to my sd card directly, and then follow the steps?
can it work?
Yes, it should work ... but if your final target is WM2003 ROM, that would be an unnecessary step ... cook your WM2003 ROM from the kitchen as .nbf file and go ahead ... of course unless you need the wmodem.exe which is found only on PPC2002 ROMs
I have just installed the new Dopod 828 Chinese ROM on my i-mate JAM and created the 27M BigStorage on it.
The radio ROM is 1.13.
I have also extracted the Extended ROM for those interested.
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Magician/Extended_ROM_Dopod_CHT_112_177/
There are quite a few interesting add-on softwares such as
- Skype For PocketPC
- Iconlab Intervision
- Polaris PWinner
- wLAN11b (for the Dopod "short" SD wifi card)
Talents,
Can you upload the CHT 1.12 Rom also? Thanks a lot
The full OS ROM was uploaded on 11 August by someone else.

opps. mislook it tim..

Hi, Talents
Could you teach me how to install this rom file, after zip the rom is .bin format.
thanks you
thanks for info,it works fine with my 818!!
Please note that in Device Information, it will show Model to be PM10B instead of PM10A. This should cause no problem to installing almost all softwares, but Pocket Hack Master fails to recognise it.
My i-mate JAM has been upgraded to 128M RAM. So, the configuration is no different from Dopod 828.

Hi Mate,
How to install this rom on the I-mate.
Thanks & Regards,
Use the standard SD method to install. You can find a lot of postings about the method in this forum.
As a short summary:
1. Use RomUpdate.exe to dump your orginal ROM to a 128M or 256M SD card.
2. Use ntrw.exe to read the ROM file on the SD card and save it to your hard disk.
3. Use HexEditor to replace the first 416 bytes of the downloaded ROM by the same of your original ROM.
4. (BigStorage option) Change the bytes 80 00 to b8 01 at locations 7e4a and 1fc232e.
5. Use ntrw.exe to write the modified ROM file to SD card.
6. Insert the SD card and set the ppc to bootloader mode.
The above may appear complicated if you are new to ROM upgrade procedures. Please search the forum for more detailed instructions before you attempt.
Compare with o2 mini ROM and 828 rom
have imporove quantity of carmera ?
thank You

Why I got 11.03 MB of my Rom Storage when I Finished the rom upgrade?
And also my radio Version still in 1.11 ?
Thanks a lot! Although I haven't 828.
can I flash it to Eng O2Mini if no RAM upgrade (still 64MB) and how to do? Is there any improvement such as carmera and phone?
and how to use your .bin file? thank you.
Thanks, it's very useful
Still having trouble with BIN file
What do we do with the bin file? I downloaded the full OSDopod828 and have no idea what to do. I see nb1 files and then bin files. do we rename it or what? Can you guys help and clarify. Getting really frustrated.
What's the purpose of editting the 416bytes. If i just want the standard OS, did i have to back up anything at all? Why cant it be just as easy as the EXE which does everything for you...geeesh
