Hi All. I had an email account on my PDA ('Steve') which became corrupted, so I deleted it on the PDA and set up a new one with a new name ('Steve's email')
Now when I sync the device I ALWAYS get 630 items to resolve even though the NEW account is perfectly sync-ed with Outlook (I checked the data on a number of new appointments and tasks). It's a LOT of items that I don't *think* relate to the NEW account., although I obviously can't see the exact details, just the 'count'
My question is, is there any way there might still be some data on the PDA relating to the OLD email account? I was thinking that there might be a (hidden) database of some sort still on the PDA that I could delete
I've tried deleting the partnership and setting up a new one under a new name but it doesn't seem to make any difference....always 630!
Additionally, I've got '1' showing in the unread SMS account...but there's nothing in the folder
Am I going mad Doctor?

I can't find an easy way to display my list of people I phone (about 110) without it being mixed in with all my contacts that Outlook has gathered from email (1766). I can call them up via SIM manager but it takes about 30 seconds to build the list .... and I'm not sure whether people I add in here are reflected in my Contacts and vice versa. I'm sure there's a market for an app that manages email and phone numbers separately
Mike
why ?
i moved all my sim contacts to outlook as soon as i got the xda
havent had any reason what so ever to have any on the sim
Two reasons really:
Searching through a huge list while driving is much more difficult than it used to be on my ordinary cellphone with just 100 plus entries, and secondly MS Voice Command (I think) has to build a database for all 1700 outlook contact entries - I think this might be why it's misbehaving.
...... but I don't see anyone else complaining about this, so maybe I'm just working in some weird way
Mike
Create a sub folder in outlook, and move all your email contacts to that folder, then of course you'll need to tell outlook, through the options, the location of the new folder to use for your email address book.
Then leave all your phone contacts in the default contact folder, and this is the one active sync uses when syncing.
This is all due to a limitation in Active Sync whereby you can't specify the folder to be used for syncing, even though, of all things, Nokia PC Suite will do this, whilst microsoft's own solution WON'T.
The other alternative some use, is to use CATEGORIES.
By tagging all your phone contacts with a category label, say for example phone, then you CAN set up activesync so that when it syncs, ONLY contacts of a certain Category are synced.
Hope this helps fit your problem.
Hey .... both of those suggestions sound good. I will experiment. Am I right in thinking though, that I then won't have any email addresses at all in my XDA2. I guess I can live with this, as I'm generally only replying to emails with the XDA2
Mike
the way i do it is to have a category in outlook; i use the category of peronal which is out of the box outlook and then in active sync you have the option of synching only people in a categoy. i have outlook 2003

Er that depends.
Now I'm not sure what your original question meant?
The follow up implies that you do want Email address contacts on the XDA2.
So in simple terms, either you do want them, or you dont.
If you want a more prescriptive choice, let me know a bit more detail of what you are hoping to acheive, and I will let you know if there is a way or a workaround for it....
If only SOME contact records containing an Email address are needed by you on the XDA2, then just also tick them as a "Phone Contact" in the Category field, and these will then sync accross if you use Categories as the method.
Let me know exactly waht you mean...
actually your summary of what I want is pretty spot on. A few email addresses and ALL my phone contacts on the XDA. All my email addresses on the PC (I don't really care about the telephone numbers being on the PC). I followed your advice - but didn't think it through properly. I deleted all my contacts on the XDA, then set active sync on the PC to synchronise only the contacts I'd marked as phone contacts. Of course when it sync'd it decided to wipe out ALL the contacts on the PC. No matter - I have a backup - but incidentally I found that with just the 118 contacts from my SIM card loaded into the XDA, both Voice Command and Fonix were dramatically imroved.
Mike
If you open contacts, and then tap on the w, m, h, or e, you will see the available contact details for each person. Just set it to display what you want and it will be remembered between syncs.
IE. Joe Bloggs with a mobile (m), e-mail (e) or work phone (w), home phone (h). If you want the mobile phone number displayed, tap on the letter and choose M.

hello all,
anybody using outlook 2003 yet? i'm having problems synching my contacts properly...seems that there is proper synching but when you use your device, some categories are missing, some contacts don't display the same info as in outlook, etc.
so i'm wondering, is it outlook 2003 or should i hard-reset my device(which i'm not too keen on doing)?
any feedback i will greatly appreciate
Thanks,
bree
Hey
Ive used Outlook 2003 ever since I got my XDA 2 so i'm not terribly sure what the syncronisation of contacts was like in previous versions.
To put it simply, if I get some info I want to add as a new contact, I usually wait until I go home and just put the info on the phone temporarily as a note. Many fields are missing, like "other telephone number" and proper formatting of the 'display name' is not possible directly off the phone... e.g. If I save a new contact on the phone as "Tom Smith", im stuck with it being saved as "Smith, Tom" until I open Outlook 2003 to change the display name there.
Also confusing, but not really a problem anymore is Business in Outlook is called Work on the phone... e.g. 'Work Telephone'.
I havent noticed any other problems, except that Outlook 2003 only synchronises the main e-mail inbox even though the phone will display empty folders for everything else such as sent items and custom inboxes.
Unless you're having some sort of other problem you wouldn't get any improvement from a hard reset. Let me know if what you're experiencing is different/worse.
Ash
Had the same problem with name being swapped around to Surname, Forename but found a solution! When creating a new contact on the phone click the down arrow next to the name field and enter the whole name in the Last Name field. This will then save the contact in the format Forename Surname. The contact will also be saved correctly in Outlook 2003 unless you specifically want Surname,Forename formatting.

ey, thanks for the replies guys, as for the above situation, you can go to the mail options section in activesync then check the appropriate boxes for folders you want to sync.
Just got my leo and loving it so far but got one annoying problem I have used contact changer to change all my contacts to first, last name but whenever an email arrives it resyncs the address book and changes most if not all of my contacts back to last, first which is rather annoying.
Do I have to sync up with outlook then change all my contacts on there to first, last and force a sync again.
Checked my gmail account and they are all first, last as before.
I had exactly the same problem but contact changer did the trick for me.
Paul
I wish I could say the same for mine! I wonder if I used an out of date one.. will try the one in the link you sent me to see if that works
if i use contact changer, it changes them to be correct, then as soon as it gets any contact from google - it resyncs them all back to be last name first name
its driving me MAD
incidentally and on a similar topic. its not pulling thru ANY e-mail for me on the google exchange sync, its just grabbed all the folders then given up. any ideas? (ive told it to get everything in the inbox - which is only 70 message regardless of size and regardless of dates) and its conected of my home wifi so its a pretty quick connection
Ok todays update, this is really starting to confuse me....
i exported all my contacts from google down into outlook.
with them all in outlook, i changed all the "file as" filed to be "first last"
then i stopped my phone syncing contcts with google, and told it tosynchronise withoutlook via usb.
it synced fine, all my contacts were as i wanted them.... then within seconds.. the phone had updated all the contacts to be "last name, first" then it promptly synced them all back to outlook!!!!!!
how on earth did it do that?!?!?!?
This issue is really irritating, by now I'm forcing myself to get used to the lastname, firtname format.
HTC Pls fix this!
one easy solution is to stop synchronizing your contacts with Google only synchronize mail....
it will work till some solution arrives .!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Has there been any fix for this issue as yet? I'm having the same problem since syncing my WM6.5 phone with Google (Contacts, Calendar and Mail)
Cheers

I have set ActiveSync (Exchange) to sync with my GMail account, and I'm positive I've ticked only the mail checkbox. Today, all out of sudden, it synced contacts too, so now I have a bunch of unwanted contacts, both on my GMail account, and on my phone, not to mention that contact pictures are messed too.
On Manila ActiveSync settings page, contacts checkbox is off but disabled (greyed out). On WM ActiveSync settings, contacts under Exchange are turned on.
This is not the first time it has happened to me. First time I thought it was my fault, but now I'm sure it's not. Has anyone had a similar problem, and knows the solution? The bug is really annoying.
Well, I didn' have the exact situtaion but something similar.... I use MS Myphone and ActiveSync to synch my Google contacts. Somehow, i ended up with duplicate contacts and some cases 3-4 copies. Here's what I did to resolve it:
*On the HD2, Delete the Activesync(exchange) account.
*On the HD2, Delete Myphone acct
*On the HD2, Delete the pim.vol file (located in root of the device). You can back this file up just incase.
*On my desktop, Go to my Google contacts online and hit the 'Find duplicate' button, deleted the duplicates
*On my desktop, sign into Myphone online account. Under contacts, hit 'Find Duplicates'. delete the duplicates thereafter.
*On HD2, create and configure Myphone and let it sync the contacts
*On HD2, create and configure ActiveSync exchange server to syn the contacts.
Hope this helps somehow...Good luck!
Thanks for your reply, but it doesn't quite solve the bug, just cleans the mess up. I want to avoid it happening in the first place.
Noone with similar problems?
Just a word of warning - don't sync your calendar with GMail if you've already got a bunch of accepted appointments in your phone.
GMail will send a brand new meeting request to everyone on the original recipients list, even for old appointments!
Happened to me when I backed up my phone, flashed new ROM, restored contacts, appointments, etc and then synced to GMail.
My entire office got spammed with meeting requests for old things like the 2009 company Christmas party!
Oh, and I also had the issue where all my contact pictures were very low quality.

I'm not sure if your problem is same as mine. Did you personally checked to sync calendar items and contacts? I select mail only, but calendar and contacts get auto-check without my permission...
I have managed to set up an Exchange account on my phone to sync my work calendar only.
I have got it working but the problem is that I want it "read only" on the phone so that any items I delete on the phone are not deleted on the server.
I have set it to "keep items on the phone" and also "replace items on phone"
The first time I deleted an item on the phone exchange calendar I found it was also deleted on the server/work calendar (I think it was set to "replace on phone")
But since then no matter what I set it to if I delete something on the phone it seems to sync with the server and then come straight back onto the phone so I can't get rid of it...
In WinMo I could explicitly set how to do the sync but can't seem to do that here - any help please?
Okay maybe a coincidence but just noticed something else.
Anything on the work calendar that had been added (at work) via Outlook - if I delete it from the phone it is also deleted off the calendar.
Anything I add to the work calendar using OWA does this yoyo thing with coming back everytime I try to delete it from the phone....
If your using the exchange it is only being stored/read from the one place.
It doesn't store locally.
I don't know how you can delete from the phone and not the server...
I used to save my outlook calendar as an .ics file and then import it to my google calendar. Now I just use touchdown.
That said... I want my calendar to be exactly the same on my phone as it is on our exchange.
There are some recurring meetings which are useful to keep track of at work but clutter the phone calendar.
I guess I could export but then I would have to keep doing it when new meeting are added.
The different behavior regarding appointment created with outlook and owa is odd but interesting.
