Hi,
Someone plse help me!
I bought a sandisk 1g sd card for my XDA II. During copying files (+- 500MB) via USB, activesync gives me an error (A device stopped functioning...) afterwhich the XDA doesn't see the card at all.
The supplier replaced the card and the same thing has happened the first time I wrote to the new card.
I can't format the card because the XDA doesn't see it.
What can I do?
Paul
edit : I have ROM 2.06.00WWE, Radio 1.18.00 Protocol 1337.38 extROM Sin.Merged.v2.0
My 512MB card works perfectly
I find that transfering anything to an SD Card on my XDA takes forever. Whenever I want to transfer anything over, I use a card reader.
It may be worth investing in one, as they're only around £15-30. The speeds will be MUCH faster, and I recon you may be rid of this error.

You may have to format ur SD first, I recommend formatting it to FAT32..
U can format it using StorageTools or Pocket Mechanic.. U can Google them, I can't remember where I downld them..
I recommend format it using Card Reader on your PC not on your pocketpc

Hi , all something strange happened to my XDA II SD Memory card!!! , i was installing an application on the SD Card and i went to the SD Card to explore it searching for something while the XDA while installing but i couldn't see all my old files , when i check the memory status i can see that i am using 70MB if the 256MB but i can't locate the files.
can any one help.
I had the same problem with a Sandisk 256mb card.
I've found that it works fine with a Lexar 128mb card though.
So it looks like the XDA2 has problems with SD cards as well as a completely duff bluetooth implementation.

Man thats bad news, have you tried doing a soft reset.
Also if you have a PC card SD reader try running Scandisk on the
card.
BTW as you can see it not a good idea to access your SD card while
programs/files are being installed / written to it.
HTH
Sandisk
ok interesting , i am also using Sandisk 256MB!!!
i tried soft reset and it didn't help.i will try to find a PC reader and see if i can get anything out of it or i might try to use it on my brother XDA 1 because most of the files were used on my old XDA with PPC2002 rom.
Hurray, its not just me then. I have a 128mb dane elec card and 70meg has disapeared. Im not sure if anything was on teh card previously and I dont have a card reader to check. Its most annoying!
Storage Card slot kaput
I bought a brand new generic 2GB SD card and had it working for a day. It just wasn't working anymore one morning I have left my XDA II overnight on the cradle. Now it wont accept any MMC or SD card I put on it. Any idea what could have gone wrong?
When it was still working I tried copying media files on it (in Microsoft knowledgebase they confirmed in order for media files to work in storage cards you have to create My Documents folder did this on the several cards I tested but to no avail)
The storage card I bought was 2 GB, O2 site says XDA II has been tested on 1GB storage cards--could I have burnt my SD card slot?
Maybe the card brand was too generic-- but then I tried other branded SD and MMC cards after the day my slot stopped recognizing and it still didn't recognize Sandisk (512) and Leica cards (64MB)
The SD card in question is still detected if you put it in a card reader then connect it to a PC
Help badly needed, I'm losing so much productivity with very small storage/ROM space

Well, I'm using Kingston 2GB SD card and it works perfect... and it's a high speed card.
You may have your SD slot broken. My slot for example from time to time gets the card disconnected (let's say, every few hours), and I have to pull it off and put back in.
in a sdcard reader undelete tools from pc can recover files from sd cards as they can with harddisk
like undelte plus
I have a SD reader on my laptop, and when i insert the card, it says "disk is not formatted. would u like to format?"
i click yes, then "this disk cannot be formatted"
yes write protection is off
I somehow fried the PPC ROM when trying to upgrade it, so i cannot use it... how do i format the SD card with a PC XPHome SP2
if the card have a rom on it no pc can ever read it why it cant format it i dont know but pocket mechanics on a pda would be able to
hic, i am facing the same problem.
I upgrade my MDA first to O2 Rom Ver 4.21.00 and then to T-mobile ROM ver 4.01.16.
Both works very well......but both requires fomarting my SD card. The roms do not compatible with my laptop.
When I put my mobile-formated SD card to the SD cad slot on my laptop, it doesn't work at all. It requires new format for the card.
...
Plez help me to solve the problem
ps: I have tried Pocket Mechenic..but the problem still remains.
Try this!
hello. If you are trying to format your sd card with window xp or windows XX. you will never use your sd card in any camera, pocket pc, palm again.
If your computer can not format your sd card, there are 2 possibilities:
1. Your memory chip is damaged
2. You can try to creat boot image using XDA tool and put it in to your XDA. Finally create a boot image. Now. Romve the sd card and plug it in the XDA again, your XDA will ask you to format it. IF not, your memory chip is damaged. Good luck!
i had issues with not being able to format my sd card under winXP
but i could format it with pocket mechanics just fine dident need to format from the bootloader at all

Thanks but that's not what I means.
In my case, when I format the SD card (quick format) by the laptop, it works with only the laptop. When I format the SD card (quick format) by my pocket PC, it works with only my pocket PC.
The SD card works pretty well separately on each device.
The 2 devices cannot use the same fomarted SD card.
That's the problem.
use pocket mechanics to see what the xda format the sd card to fat32 fat16 or ???
see what the laptop format the card to fat32 or fat16 or NTFS
the xda cant real ntfs at all

Hi,
I'm new to this so please be gentle with me.
I have brought a Kingston 256mb SD Card and put it into my XDA II but the problem is I dont seem to be able to access it.
Can anyone please help.

Hm...i think you made a bad choice of using kingston 256 mb sd card. I use the same card as you do...but until now nothing happens with my card. My friend encounters the same problem with you. Maybe your card is defected like my friend's ? He changed to another brand though
you could try formatting it in a sdreader or in the xda using storage tools or pocket mechanics
do you have link for pocket mechanic.
tried doing a search on here but it returns too many unrelated threads.
thanks in advance

brougth to you by rudegar in assioation with google
Rudegar
Thanks for the link but the program only recognises a 14mb card, which i didnt think i had???? or is that inbuilt into the xda II.
It still doesn't recognise my kingston 256 card.....
Any other suggestions guy!!!!
Try to format the card with a digital camera.
storage is the name of the backup
storagecard is the name of the sd card
if it cant see the storagecard then you can try with storage tool
http://www.softwinter.com/storagetools.html
if that also dont want to see the card then you can try formatting with a cam like was said
or maybe the card is just defect
Thanks again Rudegar
Tried that but that also didnt work. Only recognises 16Mb of Extended ROM and 16MB of storage memory.
Like I said before I am new to this and now I also a bit thick. Can you confirm to me the following;
1. XDA II come with 128 MB of memory
2. They come with 16 MB of RROM
3. They also come with 16 MB of memory
I didnt think point 3 was valid.
Anyway i'll just have to try the Kingston 256MB on a camera and see if it works. If that fails, I'll just have to get another one.
Also can anyone connfirm to me that when you put a SD Card into the memory slot at the top does the XDA II automatically recognise it?
Thanks you all for keeping up with my stupidity.
Go to settings
then to system
then memory
then to storage card
and then on the drop down does it show the two mediums
Storage card AND
storage this is normally 14.57 or depending how much you have assinged to it
The storage card is the external medium like by me a 512 gives about 488 free space

I have the same problem. Storage Tools isn't recognizing my card either...
Did you found any solution to this?
Yes. The solution was to replace the card. The card itself was fualty. I now have 1GB Kingmax SD card which works briliantly

In my case by restoring an old sprite backup after the upgrade to Rom 1.72 the access to my SD card was removed; so I reinstalled 1.72 and will not use the old backup anymore.
I've tried all of the above
My XDA II doesn't recognize SD cards..I changed the cards (although working in card reader with my PC), I hard rest the XDA II, re downlaod the new ROM, and nothing happining ..My problem started after downlaoding the new ROM and unlocking my XDAII with the tool in this site!! at the same time I don't know if this is related!! please help meeeeeeeeeeee!!! I tried every thing ..urgent help needed please
I have a 2gb SD card that was working, but I thought I would be clever and use the SD reader in my Tosh so that I could transfer large files more easily to the card for my exec. But when I was asked to format my card by Toshiba's software, I went through the process and thought it was successful. But then at end of process the phrase "Please stop a SD memory card, then insert the card again" came up, so took card out, re-entered it in the reader and tried to attempt to transfer files to it. However windows then told me that it was not formatted and would I like to format it. So yes, I do, but although windows formatted it, it reduced the capacity from 2gb to 956 mb or thereabouts. It was recognised by the exec again, but with severe consequences as never bought a 1 gb card.
Help please...
Sounds to me like your card reader doesn't read cards bigger than 1 GB. I had the same issue with my 4 GB card. Tried it with a different reader and the PC saw all 4 gigs, never asking me to format. See if you can try a newer SD card reader?
The same thing happened to me with a 1 gigabyte pcmcia card. It was working fine in my laptop then I put it in the card slot on an Ipaq and it also did a format. The card is now exactly half the memory it should be and no way can I get it to work as a 1 gig card even though I have tried formatting on the pc.
I have found that my 2GB card formatted on my Palm LifeDrive was not readable on my laptop. When I formatted using a Toshiba format utility the space on the card was down to 1GB. It did work okay on my JJ. I had to re-format it on my Palm and then for reason it was okay again and could be read by my laptop - I did not use any card readers as the laptop has a built-in reader. And I re-formatted on my laptop using XP format softwsre and the 2GB storage was retained.
@Wannabe, have you got access to another PC or card reader to reformat your card. Also I found WM5 file managers could not reformat and regain the lost capacity
been on to Tosh
Toshiba are extremely helpful...not! Told me to get another card and see if that works as it might not accept the card. This is a Sandisk card which I believe is made by Toshiba...or at least in collaboration. Am going to check Sandisk for an answer as well...keep the ideas coming please
Hi there.
Try reading this post i made ages ago about formatting and re-newing your sd cards. It might help. It is regarding my 512mb sd card, but the principles are the same.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=21920&highlight=lydiachris
I strongly recommend using media recover, even if it's only a trial version to "wipe" your sd card to re-new it to it's factory condition. It covers and re-formats the whole card sector by sector.
http://www.mediarecover.com/
Give it a go and let us know.

If none of the other suggestions work then try this program that I posted on another thread:-
SDFormatter.zip:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=30900&highlight=
Use it with a card reader, follow instructions and your PPC should be able to read the full capacity.
SanDisk have taken back card...
Thanks for the suggestions, will keep in mind for future. Sandisk took back the card and found that it had become corrupted so have sent out another one. tks for suggestions though.
Hi
I have read the thread about problems experienced by Media player not recognizing bigger SD cards. My problem is that my XDA doesn't recognise the card at all.
I know the card works (Sandisk 4GB) as I have tried it elsewhere.
The solution to the Windows Media problem was to delete a rogue file. Shall I delete this file or is it a hardware problem ?
Cheers
SDHC cards are only supported with Windows Mobile 6.
Could you be a bit more specific what version you have?
XDA did not recognise 4gb MicroCard
The WM6 one is a good obvious one.
Also I did not see what PC OS you are using.
If vista, the 1st time you sync the 4mb card in the phone, I had vista want to format the card. ..RUN AWAY !
If I ignore that, it is fine.
If you format the card it will likely not work (without another format, or worse)..
Storage Card
Thanks for the info on the card and WM6
I think that is it. I'll go and buy another card !
Cheers
Try to flash the Radio Rom. I know it sounds totally weird but I did that and suddenly it recognized the card.
