i've been using an official wm2003rom upgrade to my aws sx56 after unlocking on the t-mobile network in the US NE. i have to say it is pretty solid - has not erased my SD at all ( i did apply the reg patch a few days ago). question is - how is this different from what is available in stefan's kitchen? is there any advantage in switching? the aws rom seems to work fine for t-mobile. don't know what , if any, i am missing out on. i am testing out wm2003se right now but have a feeling i will go back...

Hi, I have aquired a T-mobile from the U.S.
Before attempting to re-flash it to get it to work in Australia I just want some advice that I am about to do the right thing...
Here are its specs:-
Branded T-Mobile
ROM v 3.08.10ENG
Radio v 6.02
Model PW10B1
After some reading of these forums I have concluded it must be a 900/1900 GSM device, and it appears to be SIM locked.
(Here in Aus. we have a 900/1800 GSM system).
I intend to use a cooked rom from jeffs site to upgrade the rom.
Does the rom I use have to be one of the T-Mobile US roms ?
I realise that i wont have 1800 coverage. But will 900 still work?
Anyway, because of the sim lock I intend to proceed with a rom update.
I intend to:
Backup rom using SD card method
Download a V4.xxx T-mobile US cooked rom
Update rom using USB method
Any comments/advice appreciated (any local experience here?)
Regards from DownUnder.
well first off... i suggest you upgrade to Special rom 1.2 first.
that one will unlock your pda, so you can use it anywhere.
and about band... i'm sure i saw 1800 in the bootloader!
but not sure if you select it as default if it will carry over to the os
maybe worth a try.
in any case, if you back up your os onto SD, you have nothing to fear.
i say best thing to do, is copy that O2 os & radio (if you're sure u'll never leave australia, i dont think radios can be manipulated that often)
but dont take my word for it. wait for a confirmed user. if your not advanturous
Good Luck!
Yep, I backed up and upgraded to SE v1.2 rom using the SD card/OSImagetool method.
SIM unlocked ok
Phone works if 900mhz band is selected.
Its now thinks it's a model PW10A1.
Radio is still the 6.02 version. (B ver. )
Not sure what the consequences of this are.
Im not sure if i would benefit from a radio upgrade or not.
If I understand this correctly, I can ONLY upgrade the radio to the T-Mobile US versions, because the radio hardware is B version.
I think I will leave it like this for a while, see how it go's.
Anybody have any experience with using a B (US)version radio in a A Ver.(euro/asian) area.??

Thanks for the advice ntabikha and THANK YOU to the XDA Developers team.

Hah, worked straight away and it's fast. Well done!
Showing the Server stats is a nice touch.
getting realy busy latetly..
I counted up to 20 rom's burning at the same time.... 8)
The only problem the bandwith is going bit down
Enjoy while you can...
Makis, I noticed the new appeal for donations.
I might have considered a donation if you hadn't blatantly plagarized the appeal for donations from the xda-developers page. Given that a large amount of your traffic must originate from here, couldn't you think up an original appeal?
Post a reply here when you've updated the page.

I didnt see any copyright notice on the xda developers donations invitation :?:
That's not my point.
New Kitchen Online
This new kitchen ROCKS! I would gladly have donated but the link to do so isn't working. I got a cooked ROM that gave me EXACTLY what I wanted AND my Internet Explorer is working again AND I still have an excellent signal. THANK YOU TO THIS ROM KITCHEN!
I'll check back periodically to see if the donations link is working. 40 euros ($50 USA) is worth it after what I've experienced!
Can XDA2 allso do this !
as subject . thanks
WM2003
Hey guys,
Which version of WM2003 does NOT have the t-mobile features built in? I've tried 4.01.16 and it rocks except it has a lot of these t-mobile builtin functions (such as it's internet explorer connections being designed for t-mobile) which doesn't work for me since I have an O2 XDA and use it in the Philippines though at the same time I don't want to give up the benefits of having WM2003. Which version ROm should I get? WM2003 4.01 BETA?
Thanks in advance for the advice.
4.01.00 has the Tmobile stuff in it as well. I think 4.00.16 doesn't, but one thing you lose is the Settings menu to choose 1900 or 900 MHz band. You can change this in the boot menu, but in my experience this sometimes leads to a cold boot.
For the past 6 months I've been running 4.00.11 ROM with 6.18.00 Radio,
that was cooked in one of the Kitchens. I use it on T-Mobile USA network and have run it throughout Asia. It is mostly excellent. 3 questions:
1. The original details about the T-Mobile upgrade stated it runs LANDSCAPE mode on the fly. I really want the upgrade, mainly for this feature. This feature no longer is advertised. Is it in the upgrade?
2. There is a rom kitchen listed in this forum that has the new ROM 4.01.16 listed as a choice. Does anyone know iif this version is the newest T-Mobile version or just an earlier beta? Does this version have Landscape mode?
3. The original ROM kitchens discussed how thier cooked roms were less memory intensive than official ROMs because they eliminated some kind of T-Mobile architecture. Does anyone rmember what this was and if it is still true?
Thanks in advance for any help!
Band changing with t-mobile software
Just out of curiousity, is the hardware for t-mobile and XDA exactly the same? I mean can I actually switch the band to the US frequency when I'm there and get my phone to work there?

I´m using the German official release of the t-Mobile ROM (4.00.33).
It doesn´t support the landscape mode. :-(

As much as i know, the 4.01.16 is the latest and the official version from T-Mobile in US. I don´t think, that it supports the landscape mode

I think the great differance between original ROMs and cooked Roms is, that the free space in the ROM can be used for own programs and the programs will still be on the device after a hard reset....

I recently purchased an AT&T SX56 and had it unlocked so that I can use it with T-Mobile service. It works great but it still has the old AT&T software on it Pocket PC 2002. I would like to upgrade to PPC 2003 which is available on the T-Mobile site, but I am concerned that flashing the device with T-mobile software will kill it. Has anyone had an experience with this? Will it work?? I can d-load the PPC 2003 from siemens for AT&T but I would rather have T-mobile.
Download it but only flash the ce rom part of it, dont flash the radio if you have a good working phone already, there is nothing there to damage your phone, people on this site have used roms from everywhere without problems, it is better to use the sd method for flashing using xdatools.
I tried the t mobile upgrade
but it told me my rom version was not compatible and aborted the upgrade. I have an att sx-56 that I unlocked by loading the special rom 3.17 ENG. So I'm running on that rom until I spot the next plan on here.
This rom is cool but can anyone tell me how to get the buttons to work when the phone is off again? Also the calendar language is not english any idea on where to set that?
Thanks love this site and the great people on here!
Scott
Use the kitchen at http://xda.weblink.net/ to cook a TMO 4.01.16 ROM and use the SD card method to over come the version verification.
Finished... for now anyway
Did as suggested above and then used t-mobile released version to upgrade radio... Now have the official t-mobile version of OS ROM and Radio. I miss the old special edition rom already!
Thanks everyone!
Scott
Hi
I just bought a Siemens SX56 which locked to AT&T wireless. I want to use this on T-mobile network with Windows Mobile 2003.
I read through several threads trying to figure what is the best way to get to my final state.
I see people discussing about two things "Radio Stack" and ROM.
I could not figure out if the radio stack is provider specific. Did not know if i can just upgrade both with the AT&T ROM.
Here is my current plan. Please help me in making sure that i am not going to end up with a brick.
1. Unlock the devicewith XDA2Unlock
2. Upgrade the device to WM2003 with the Siemens AT&T executable from siemens web site.
3. Put my T-Mobile sim card and use it on t-mobile network.
Would this work ?. What is the best way to get best reception on this PDA with t-mobile ?.
thanks

1. Your device is XDA I ... so the right tool is XDAunlock here www.xda-developers.com/XDAunlock/ and it will work only if you still have the PPC 2002 ROM on yoru device, other wise you will have to flash your device with the special edition ROM SER1.2 from the forum here as well.
2. The excutable contains both RSU and ROM. If your phone works fine don't touch the RSU. Get a cooked WM2003 ROM from the kitchen here and flash your device ROM only.
3. Try and let's know
Good luck
I'm a bit of a newbie myself, however I've been playing with both a TMobile and an AT&T PPCPE for the last few weeks.
Why are you putting the AT&T ROM on the phone - surely it would be best to put on the TMobile version so that it would have all the internet settings, etc.

Thanks for the reply.
I read somewhere that if my radio version if A33, i will not be able to use the XDAUnlock utility. Is that true. If that is true will i be able to unlock using any other process ?
I will be getting PPCPE this week. I am excited to get it up and running with my existing T-mobile SIM.
thanks
Hi. I started with an AT&T Siemens SX-56 with XDA Developers final 2002 software.
After burning my own 2003 ROM with Lumpi's kitchen, I installed from USB cradle. No probs.
Then I tweaked a new ROM, but it wouldn't work with USB. I had to upgrade it by SD method. Worked fine.
Don't ask me why (maybe I like having all newest versions), but I upgraded the radio using T-Mobile's 2003 updater.
I've since burned a new ROM I made in the kitchen.
My question is: I now have Wallaby Bootloader 5.22, T-Mobile kitchen ROM 4.10.16ENG 02/04/04, and Radio Stack 6.25.02. GSM Band doesn't work anymore. Is there one that will work?
I can sucessfully use Wallaby menu and change back and forth from 1900 to 900/1800, no problem, but,
1) is that the only way I can do it when I travel back and forth to Europe?
2) can I downgrade the Radio stack?
3) what versions (in your opinions) of ROM and Radio are the best/most stable/whatever...? (Internet isn't so important to me, but good cellphone signal is)
Thanks a million!
I love this site! Awesome!!!!!!

p.s. If anyone has questions about SX56 and how to get stuff to work and what happens when you try things, just ask! I've got a spare one I do all my testing on...[/b]
I used 6.24.01 and 6.25.02 RSUs with 900 MHz ... in general there is almost no difference ... both are performing in an acceptable manner. However, I have a personal feeling that 6.24.01 was a bit more stable (I maybe wrong tho).
In all cases, as long as you have a good RSU don't touch it ... it's a risky process unless there is a real need. I didn't try the GSM band switcher my self, but I heard it requires soft reset after.
