Hey there,
I am having some major problems with PBT not allowing me to access the Services Selection Sceen after you bond with a new device...
And it would seem that I am not the only one.......
http://www.theunwired.net/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=19952#19952
Any help would be HUGELY appreciated!
what all services do u require ??
dun and active sync can be done very comfortably !!
That's be a good start! ActiveSync is all I really want for now but I would really appreciate it if anyone could tell me what I am doing wrong!
I have read in a couple of places (can't remember where) that PBT doesn't work with the JAM/mini. I installed it and had the same problem. I think I'm going to hard reset as I did uninstall it but now my bluetooth seems to turn on randomly by itself, and I think remnants of PBT may be the problem. I'm getting a BT GPS later this week and want my JAM to be in tip top condition so I can play with it
Thanks for that. The really, really strange thing is that the VERY FIRST time I installed PBT I actually got it to work successfully (ie. I did get to see the 'Profile Selection' screen)?? Every time since then (including after doing several hard resets / uninstallations etc.) it consistantly DOESN'T WORK!!! My guuess is you are spot on with the "remnants" theory, in which case the dude who makes PBT should really be trying to fix this (and I have emailed him but with no reply thus far!)
Anybody else out there manage to get Pocket Bluetooth Tools working successfully (maybe more than once too) on the XDA II Mini (eg. Magician)?????????????????? Anyone?????????????
U don't need PBT to get BT activesync working. Make sure U got the latest rom update (1.11) and U should be get activesync working w/o any program
hold on people
pocket bluetooth tools works like charm with my O2 mini
BUT
the catch is to use the right version
now
lemme make life very simple for u all
go to the link http://www.bluetooth.jazztel.es
and
download the Version 1.0.1.2 (Installation through Windows PCs)
NOT THE HIGHER VERSION CAUSE IT IS NOT AS STABLE !!
once u download and install .. soft reset
then
from yr ppc .. pair it with yr computer and just as u tap the finish button .. the screen for pbt appears and select avtive sync in that ..
now
when u tap the tools option in active sync .. it will show " connect via bt with (computer name)"
just tap this option and u r good to go
remember u must have done active sync atleasr once prior to this with a normal usb cable or cradle
HOPE THIS WORKS FOR U
Thanks I'll give that a try now. You are saying to NOT use the latest version of PBT right?
BTW - I am syncing with a Toshiba Satellite 5100 laptop with on-board BT (if that has anything to do with it)
Thanks again! (oh, and yes - I have upgraded to 1.11)
I have 1.11 and I'm running a fresh (ie. brand new from a zeroed hdd) version of XP SP2 with the latest updates, BIOS etc. etc.
Jack - so should I do a USB sync first (if I just sync "files" to save time is that ok?) and then try using the stock standard Activesync bluetooth setup.....before I retry PBT?
Okay - this is completely F___ED !!!!
I have tried AGAIN to do a normal ActiveSync BT setup and, despite the "Connect via Bluetooth" option being available in the menu - when I click it absolutely nothing happens (and yes, the two devices are already bonded)
Okay - take two (more like 202.... )
I then downloaded and installed the 1.0.1.2 of PBT as suggested and tried that.....and just like before....absolutely no "Profile Selections Screen" shows up after doing the setup (to the letter). Oh, and now the "Connect via Bluetooth" option is actually GONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AGHHHHHHH    :!: :!: :!:
Somebody MUST know how to fix this?????????
hey mike
relax man
u r just missing something...
have u checked the com ports that the computer has assigned to yr device and if the one active sync progarm(in the pc) is using is the same as that ..
if u have done that too then just remove the pbt ...
do a soft reset ..
let yr device relax ..... u also relax
and then
go to this thread and check it out
http://howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=544932
Under: System/Hardware/Device Manager/Ports(COM & LPT)/
there is: Toshiba BT Port (COM1), Toshiba BT Port (COM2), Toshiba BT Port (COM4)
Under Toshiba Bluetooth Local COM:
there is: [port]COM1 [description]Toshiba BT Port (COM1) [owner]LocalCOM-Client
[port]COM1 [description]Toshiba BT Port (COM1) [owner]LocalCOM-Client
[port]COM2 [description]Toshiba BT Port (COM2) [owner]LocalCOM-Client
[port]COM3 [description]Toshiba Software ModemAMR [owner]
[port]COM4 [description]Toshiba BT Port (COM4) [owner]LocalCOM-Client
[port]COM5 [description]Toshiba BT Port (COM5) [owner]LocalCOM-Client
And under Toshiba Bluetooth Service Center
I can see icons (with an option to connect) for COM1, COM2, COM4, COM5
As for the one(s) the ActiveSync program (on the pc) should be using??? How would I find this???
Thanks in advance for your help.
PS - and I'm very relaxed now...thanks

I guess what U are missing is the correct Com port value for active sync. (no matter U are using stock or PBT)
I am not sure about Toshiba's BT driver. But to check the com port of my Desktop (Widcomm BT driver from IBM) is right click on the BT icon > advance setting > local service.
Then config yr active sync to use the same value.
Once U click connect via BT on yr PPC's Activesync, the desktop should notify U yr PPC is connecting. After U apporve the connection, Activesync on desktop should get activate and start syncing
ok
i have a dell inspiron 9300 but i didnt get the bt module
so i use a bluetooth dongle with widcomm stack
my point is that iam not familiar with yr toshiba
so u r gonna have to work with me here !
WE WILL MAKE IT WORK ..DONT WORRY
on the right hand corner of yr laptop's screen along with the volume and other icons there must be an active sync icon in grey colour
right click on it and then click on "connection settings"
there u will find the following options
allow serial cable ........(select this if not done already)
and
allow usb .... (which must be selected already)
IF THE FIRST OPTION WAS NOT SELECTED THEN THAT MY FRIEND "WAS THE PROBLEM"
however if it was or wasnt ....
see which all com ports r available in the drop down list
now select the one which matches yr toshiba list ..... which as far as i understand are .. com 1 , com2 , com4 and com5
if more than one r matching then try one by one
now in yr ppc uninstall pbt .. soft reset ....
and now try the connect via bt option of active sync
remember to try with all matching options of com ports
if this doesnt work ... dont worry !!
install again the version of pbt that i told u earlier
after installation ... soft reset
now
tap the bt icon on the ppc and select both option in front of u
next
delete any existing names of yr comp in the devices list
and
search for new
select yr comp name ny tapping it and then tap next
then
give passkey and tap next
as soon as u feed the passkey in comp too
the PBT screen will appear
on that select active sync and tap ok
and then finish
if it asks to assign serial port .. say yes
if asks to assign as hands free ... say no
tap ok
goto active sync
tap .. tools ... tap connect via bt to ..... and then reply on this post if it works
and even if it doesnt
and if u didnt understand what i just explained .. read the thread link i have given above !!!
phew .... this is a very very long post now
HOPE IT HELPS U
On my jam the newest version of PBT didn't work (no options after bonding and a lot of major bugs) I downloaded the version prior to the last one and it works perfectly
yup
sanders is right
that is the version i have been trying to explain about here too
thanks for the support man
I really appreciate the effort you have gone to in trying to help me man!! Thank you!!!
I feel really bad in saying that it STILL isn't working - I tried everything you suggested and it is EXACTLY the same problem as before. No PBT screen after bonding and then when I go to ActiveSync the "connect via bt" option is gone!
Damnn......when are Apple going to make a handheld/phone?
Just one point - I am supposed to be using version 1.0.1.2 right?? Should I try an even older version perhaps as a next option?
The wierd thing is that we should still be able to connect via bt with just ActiveSync right? Anyone have any further ideas?
Same Problem.. Solved
I just removed the 1100 PBT and my mini is back to normal again.. I before had trouble pairing with jabra, mini run so slower and halted.. and just before i remove the PBT, I can't even hear anything from the phone. i was thinking about these problem ..
1. maybe this PBT shouldn't run from Storage card
2. XP service Pack 2 {I have just SP1 before)
3. the big storage..
but after remove PBT.. it's working good again.. will try install 1102 later..
what device r u using mike ??
jam or mini or ..?????
and u have to use the Version 1.0.1.2 (Installation through Windows PCs)
and "not"
Version 1.0.1.2 (alternative installation directly on the PDA)
this is quiet strange !!
actually it should work without pbt ..but cause of the stupid microsoft stack in our devices .. we face such problems
ok now answer the following questions ..
1... did u check the com ports available in active sync and they matching to the ones in toshiba ???
2.... have u read and tried what is in this thread http://howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=544932
3... r u using the pbt version i have mentioned above ??
In answer to your questions:
1) Yes
2) Yes

Hi All, great forum this found out loads of info.
I have a real problem.
My connector on the Handset has broke so not able to sync with laptop.
Brought bluetooth dongle se up as instructions on the forum site.
But it does not work.
When i try to sync with activesync on PDA it comes up with.
Cannot start communications with the desktop computer. The communitations port is not available,Another program may be using the port or it may not be valid.
Any ideas please.

Hi.
I spent hours and hours trying to sep up Activesync and I found these and sorted it:
Bluetooth Drivers:
First I removed the old Bluetooth drivers as they are not needed.
http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?ContentId=3163
Com ports:
Then I reset the com ports.

I found this a little tricky, but I did it like this (using SP2 BT drivers on XP):
1.Start off with the phone and computer unpaired
2.Open the bluetooth menu (double click on the bluetooth icon in the system tray).
3.Select the comm ports tab and click to add a new INCOMING port. - This port got assigned to something stupid like comm 36.
4.Open device manager, and select the comm port that has just been made.
5. Go to properties->port settings->advanced and change it to a lower end port you know isn't in use. I selected 3.
6. Reboot the computer (not sure if this was really needed)
7. On the phone go to start->settings->system-bluetooth settings and make sure the in and outgoing ports are selected (again not sure if thats essential, but I have it on and it works for me). Then press start.
8. Bond with your computer. There isnt anything that tells you if this has worked or not (which is very frustrating), so you just gotta click ok and test it.
9. In activesync go into the connections bit and tell it to list on the comm that you set in step 3. To get to this bit you have to have synced your phone through usb or something first.
10. on the phone go to activesync->tools->connect via bluetooth (remember to turn bluetooth on first). If everything has gone to plan then it should connect fine.
I did this a few times until suddenly it worked. I'm not sure what I did the time that it did work, but it was something, so I would suggest trying slightly different things each time, but I'm pretty sure it was that way.
The whole process of setting up activesync over bluetooth is really tedious imo, and could be greatly improved in many many ways.
Good luck and let me know if this works.

when i try to bond with my computer...why is it asking for a PIN CODE? im trying to connect my imate to the computer so i can sync thru bluetooth and possibly use the internet when i'm around the house. Can someone please help me?
i tried the search engine, but its no help for me.
of course it will ask for a pincode in both directions.. meaning your phone and PC.. but this for the first time connection only... so what you want to do is to set each other as an authorized counterpart of the other so that you will not have any confirmations again
ok...sorry for these noobie question...i have finaly established a connection with my PC.
is it possible for me to use the internet from my computer on my PDA thru BT? for example, i want to use AIM *AOL* instant message, but im not sure if there is an internet connection on my PDA thru bluetooth. How would i tell if there is a connection? if not, how do i connect? please help? thanks again in advance
If you go into activesync and under options-->rules at the bottom there is the option to share your net connection with the synced device (called pass-through). My XDA II pops up a message when its making a gprs connection.
Hi @ all,
I did not tested it again because I now have a synccable.
This works fine.
Thanks a lot for your great support!
I installed Mobile Navigon4 (Update4.2). Because of the fact that my audiospeaker is not working (Audio about Headset & BT-Headset works fine/speaker is not defect)here is my question:
Can I use the PPC in my car for navigation ?I want to use the BT-Headset for the navigation audio output.Does it work?
Dear all, is that possible to activesync mini and pc without USB? Whenever using usb to sync, mini will be charged. Can i prevent this auto charging problem coz lets say the battery in my mini is always full, will it do any harm when it keep charging whenever we activesync? If we can activesync using BT, what is the procedure?
Just go to bluetooth settings and do activesync setup. you will need to re pair your PC. works really well.
rmg, what do u mean by repair the pc, can u provide me with more details and step on doing this, appreciate your help thanks
rmg, i did what u told me, but when i click start button on the "bluetooth activesync setup:" the message box come out "please start bounding with other bluetooth device which support serial port or activesync profile as your activesync partner". i cannot get it done, can u help
how i do is it
1) bond PC and Phone in Bluetooth Settings in windows
2) on phone go to Activesync - tools - Options - Options - Dropdown box
Eather Bluetooth or 19200 default
3)Open active sync pc
4) Active Sync on Phone - Tools - Connect Via Bluetooth
and that is how i connect
In the advanced settings for your BT dongle you will need to check what Bluetooth Serial port number is being used. I found mine under local services. Once you have that go into the proerties for AS and where it lists the serial port to use put the COM Port number of your BT Serial port in that box. Now when you hit the AS button they should be able to connect with each other. Hope that helps.
One of the requirements is for you to have a ActiveSync 3.8.
Once you have that installed a new port will also be installed with the Windows BT stack. When the BT stack is detected a new port will also be available.
Now the next step is to go to the PPC. Hit Start go to Settings, System and then Blue Tooth Settings. Hit the Start button and it should bring you to the BT activation where you turn it on. Have everything checked. Once this is done, start pairing the laptop by having it detect the PPC and set a passkey for protection. Once they are paired, launch ActiveSync in the PC and go to File and Connection Settings. Once in this screen pit a check mark on the Allow Serial... Set it to the new port set by your BT Stack.
Once this is done, on the PPC, hit Start and go to Programs select ActiveSync. Hit Tools and then Connect via Bluetooth. This should then start working.
One bug I did find is that once you connect your device to your charger and initialize the ActiveSync over BT everything will work well. BUt once you remove it from the power conenction, your device will soft reset.
ok i will try, thanks to all of you
Stupid Q. If you're using BT for Activesync, the PC will still act like a pass-thru internet gateway, right? And you can now surf the net via BT (the same way you do it with wifi)?
Thanks.
@MC_Oliver
The answer is yes. If you are doing ActiveSync over Bluetooth it is the same as ActiveSync with a cable. You should have the same icon on the top of your screen. You can even browsse the files in your PPC.
Thanks dre.
Btw, curious if you have the same problem as I do in this thread? Thanks again.

Hi all, tis my first post so please help.
Can i connect my Jam to my computer using bluetooth connectivity and then use my computer's internet connection to connect to the internet from my Jam?
If it is possible please Help me...
Just connect to AS on your PC via BT and your Jam will automaticaly use your computer's connection (this is called passthrough).
Does anyone know how to get passthrough to work is AS is via a Citrix session?

Well...It's a bit complicated but I'll try to write it down clearly, and easy...
I'm Hungarian (using Hungarian Windows) so I don't know some description from other languaged Windows. But I try to translate it properly...
So the solution:
What you need:
- The first thing you need is a Bluesoleil BT driver. It is a special Bluetooth Stack, and you're able to build a PAN (Personal Area Network) with is.
- The second stuff you need is a patch for the original MS Stack. You can add COM Ports with it.
- Active Sync 4.1
- A BT USB Donlge which has a PAN service.
Let's start it:
1. Install the BT Stacks to your magician.
2. Put your USB Bluetooth Dongle to your PC.
(It's not necessary to install the driver if you use Windows XP)
3. Open the "Bluetooth Devices" from: Start -> Settings -> Faxes and other hardwares -> Bluetooth Devices.
4. Search for your PPC.
5. Specify an "Incoming Port" (ex.: Com Port 8 Incoming).
6. Go to your PPC, use the patched MS Stack and specify an "Outgoing Port" (ex.: Com port 5 Outgoing).
7. Open Active Sync 4.1, and check the "Allow Usb connections" checkbox
8. Configure the "Allow connections on this port" to your Outgoing Port (ex.: If you use COM 5 for Outgiong port on your PPC, then config tihs option on your PC to the COM 5)
9. Configure the "This computer connects to the" dialog to "The Internet".
10. Change the BT Stack on your PPC with "Bluetooth Switch" (you'll need to perform a soft reset)
11. After Soft reset start Bluesoleil Stack and search for the USB Dongle.Double click on the PC icon to search services.
12. In services choose PAN network.
Your device will try to connect to your PC, and if it's connected run Active Sync via BT.If this is comleted, you should be able to connect to the internet from your PPC, and you can use MSN Messenger too if you have.
COMPLETE!!!
If you can't understand a step clearly (beacuse I've mistyped something, of translated it wrong etc.) write down what is it and I try to explain it more detailed.
If you have problems with this solution, reply it to me and I'll make a How To Do.PDF with pictures in it

It doesn't have to use Bluesoleil BT stack at all. The MS stack comes w/ yr magician can do the BT ActiveSync without any problem. U could check my old post in a month ago for steps to do BT ActiveSync.

Hmmm so where do i get this "Bluesoleil Stack" and once i get my Jam Connected to my PC thru Active Sync, CAN I NOW USE THE INTERNET ?? or does it needs some settings on my JAM.
i've always used MS$ bt stack with AS and surf without any problems.
My BT dongle is built by IVT corp, somehow I can't use MS BT stack so I have to install BlueSoleil to make it work.
So here's my problem...
PC: BlueSoleil 1.6.1.4 has only com ports 18-28 (can't add ports)
PPC: has only com ports 4 & 5 (can't add ports)
ActiveSync: Allows only com 1 & 2
How can you add ports so I can use the same for both PC and PPC?
6. Go to your PPC, use the patched MS Stack and specify an "Outgoing Port" (ex.: Com port 5 Outgoing).

Why U need to have this requirement??? The port# for both end independant. Eg: The AS on my desktop using Com4 and the AS on the PPC may use Com5.
IT's POSSIBLE to Navigate with Magician via BT with his ORIGINAL BT Stack.
The only "bug" is that there isn't a PAN.

Thanks for the reply, the problem is that my bluetooth recognizes only ports 18-29. I don't have any hidden/unused ports already checked it.
Dice, try to find out which important com-ports are used at all, write them down to paper, then take upper one and change down step by step each port lookslike busy, but free (don`t change important com-ports )! this way free your ports. then uninstall bluesoleil, reboot , and install bluesoleil again, reboot and you will see all bluetooth ports for bluesoleil in lower position. check ports in Activesync if its won`t be there reinstall Activesync 4.1!

I didn't read that guide. But step 8 is definitately misleading! As I said before, they are indenpendant and doesn't have to be match.
For our magician, the outgoing port is FIXED to com5. On the PC, the Com port number can be anything depends on what COM port is assigned as Serial connection for yr BT stack. Eg. I need to use Com 4 when I am using the Widcomm BT driver. But I need to use Com7 when I was trying the Tosbhiba BT stack. So, test them out if U are not sure what com port is using on yr PC for serial connection.

Sorry, if I mislead you.I use Bluesoleil Stack, and I've matched the ports and it works. After I tried it on different ports and it worked too.
AND ONE MORE THING:
I've tried an easier way to surf on the net via BT.But it still uses Bluesoleil ...
- All you need is just simply open Bluesoleil Stack on the PPC.
- Then on the PC go to Bluetooth Settings and start pairing the PPC.
- After the pairing scan for the Computer services on the PPC and if all thing are works well you get "PAN" option.Connect and you're Done!
All guys who says it is not necessary to get Bluesoleil Stack:
My dongle is an IVT BT Dongle and I can't use the original stack to surf the net.But if you say it's possible on some BT Dongles I believe it.
bolasz:
Thanks for the trick (start pairing from PDA).I'll try it and post the result
sheraz2000:
I've linked the Bluesoleil Stack, so you can download it.
I think you can use the internet without any setting on the JAM.If you can't use the net, try to set your firewall.
Well thats for today and once again sorry for the misleading.
Many thanks to those who replied.
I'm also using the IVT BT dongle. Looks like I need to use Bluesoleil to make it work. I've already managed to connected to PAN. I've already allowed Internet Connection sharing on my computer and disabled firewall but still can't surf the net
Are there any settings I need to change in the PAN?

You can force the IVT dongles to use the WIDCOMM stack as opposed to the Bluesoleil one. I couldn't find the thread I used on GSM-Forum, but I had a copy saved...
Basically all you do is:
0. Uninstall all your bluetooth software. Unplug the Dongle for this step
1. Download Widcomm 4.0.1.700 from here: http://www.mobidick.biz/downloads.shtml
2. Download Billyx's Patches from here: http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=179871
3. SP2 Users: (i dont know if this step does anything, but i read somewhere to do it, and it everything worked for me. Though it might work if you skip this step)
Go to Start -> Run ->write "msconfig" (without the quotes) and press enter. Go to the services tab and uncheck Bluetooth Service. Then hit OK. You might wanna restart, i think i did step 4 before doing that though.
4. Install Widcomm. Make sure the Dongle is plugged in it should recognise the dongle and it began installing the issc drivers. Restart PC
(at this point widcomm should be blue and red, and asking for the dreadful license.)
5. Restart PC in Safe Mode. Use Billyx's patch to overwrite the files in C:\Program Files\WIDCOMM\Bluetooth Software using the 2 .EXEs
and files in C:\WINDOWS\system32 using the .DLLs
6. Restart, and bluetooth should now be blue and white.
7. Connect your devices. Begin using them
You're done!!
It works well for me.[/url]
Hi,
I am successfully setup ActiveSync via bluetooth (and get internet access by activesync) using below method. No need to install stack or anything to PPC. I forgot where I found it, but I copied the step already.
To the author of this step, apologize me to paste your post here without your permission. My intention is to help others. Since I am success with this step, I share with others.
Here is the steps:
---
1)On your PC go to the Control Panel and select "Bluetooth". In the "Options" tab, make sure all the ticks are on. You'll now see a little bluetooth icon on your system tray. Makes it easier to access in the future. Your PC should also be ready to be found as long as you ticked the fist box in the step above.
2)On your Jam, Go to Start, Settings, System (Tab), Bluetooth Settings. On the screen that comes up you ONLY want to hit start. Leave the incoming and outgoing checkboxes OFF!!!
3)You will now be taken to the partnership screen, where you just follow the instructions to add your PC. Follow through until you hit finish. Close everything down until you're back at the today screen.
4)Back to your PC, double click on the Bluetooth icon in your system tray. Go to "Com Ports" (Tab) and click "Add". Choose incoming. A You'll see an incoming port added to the list (probably be the only item there). It should look like "COM X Incoming"
Remember what number is after COM. Close all windows, making sure you hit OK or Apply where you have to.
5)Open Active Sync on your PC. Hit File, Connection Settings. Enable the first tick, and select the COM port you had to remember in the previous step. Hit OK
6)Open Active Sync on your Jam. Choose Tools, Connect Via Bluetooth.
---
Hope this is helpful!
Regards,
Arto.

Click to collapse
If the PAN setup succesful, then click on the ActiveSync icon in the Bluesoleil "Bluetotth Manager" on the JAM.
I think now you surf the net from the PPC.
Reply if something is worng and you still cannot surf the net
Hi everybody...
I know this has been posted be4... but I have searched the forum a lot, with no luck..
searched howardforums too.. no luck too...
even in bengalboy web site, but his guide did not work.... every time I try to connect to my pc I get disconnected..
I wish to sync vis M$ stack... not Bluesoeilfor the JAM
I has MSI BT dongle, Toshibal BT stack on PC, M$ BT stack on JAM
*PS: does anybody know how to install M$ BT on PC... I have Win XP pro SP2.. and I think it should have built in.. but when I uninstall Toshiba's Stack.. I can get anything!!!
please help...some basic what to do....
I really appreciate it
duke911: do you want to explain what you've done so far on the PC.
That PDA should be fine, it's quite easy to setup
(read here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=144696#144696)
However, on the PC: you've installed the hardware, have your bluetooth dongle working, and have successfully paired your PDA?
V
Thanks vijay555 for the swift reply
The dongle works fine, pairs and everything...
but when I plugged it for the first time.. it was not recognized by my PC... aparenely there were no drive for BT.. so I installed the Toshiba's stack bundled with the dongle.
Here is what I have done:
first I tried bengalboy guide here ( although i dislike his website a lot )
http://www.bengalboy.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=4&forum=8
but every time I finish and I press Connect Via Bluetooth in Active Sync PPC... I see the opening port message etc.. but I don't get connected..
after that.. Toshiba's Stack on my PC started to act weired... first when I paired with the JAM.. I get three services: SPP, DUN, Push Object
but after a while.. SPP just disappeared...
Then I uninstalled the driver.. reinstall.. same problem..
uninstall.. tried ( Add Hardware Wizard in PC ) to try Microsoft Stack.. but it did recognize the dongle...
please vijay555.. can you tell me how to install the original stack from Microsoft on my PC???
Thanx in advance
duke911: I'm actually using the blue soleil stack that came with my ebay dongle. I vaguely remember there being an enormous effort getting that to install, for marginal benefit. I'm in the office right now, but if you still need help later I can see if they'll help you out, when I get home later.
But try reading through some of the blue soleil threads on this board, I think they discuss the relative benefits of the various stacks floating around on the board. Blue Soleil works for me, but frankly, bluetooth is the kind of thing you shouldn't have to think about, it should just work, right!? Those threads might also discuss uninstalling any other stack. If you've not made major changes, have you considered using System Restore on your PC to roll back to before installing the dongle?
V
OK.. I have done every thing you can imagine.... it now 2 am... I have been trying to figure out how do this since 3 pm... and no luck
I tried installing the dongle on a different PC with XP SP1... also no luck.. no M$ driver... so I installed Toshiba's...
after that I restored my JAM using a sprite back up to a different time... how knows maybe i messed a lot since 3 pm
after that i did the following:
1. in PPC: went to Start>Settings>System> Bluetooth Settings then choose Incoming COM and pressed Start in the middle of the page..
2. paired with PC.. no problems.. PS: PPC did not say that my PC supports SPP
3. on PC.. choose the same COM port that Toshiba uses for SPP ( which is COM 8 ) in my case..
4. from PPC tried to Sync.. and then I get this message in Active Sync in PC
5. If I choose different COM port for AS.. I get the usual message on my PPC ( connecting to Host ) but I get nothing
PS: I'm using Active-Sync 4.1 on the another PC... while the previous uses v 3.8
please vijay555 help me out here... my head is about to explode
Problem Solved.... 8)
Will post instruction tomorrow.. step by step.. for newbies...
thanks vijay555 for you help
OK here is the thing...
the trick is to chooses the same COM port for you Serial Port Profile for both : PC bt stack & Active-Sync... i.e. both use COM 7 or 8 ..etc
second.. you should pair your PPC with PC.. and create an Outgoing COM from your PPC...
a picture is worth a thousand words.. check this GIF
cheers
hey duke what did you do? i've been trying to get m jam to sync for agees without any luck! i'm starting to think that it might be the usb dongle that i'm using on my laptop! bout to go buy a new one so any tips you can offer would be great
do the following:
1. make sure PC bluetooth stack uses the same port for SPP as well as Active-Sync i.e. Both COM 8
2. on PPC: go to Start>Settings>System then choose Bluetooth Settings... and then tick outbound COM Port..
3. a pop up message will show.. click OK then you'll be take to BT manager.. you have to make sure you device is discoverable... then pair with your laptop.. after you finish.. go to COM Ports in BT manager... and create a new outgoing COM port...
4. go to Active-Sync in PPC and then choose tools>Connect via Bluetooth
that's it.. and I guess the gif will prove helpful
cheers
Ok, here's another manual. You have to follow each step precisely!
In your bluetooth manager on the PC, check for your incoming serial bluetooth port. This is the com port number which is shown under Local services or incoming services. If your COM port number is above 10, ask what to do then - ActiveSync doesn't work with COM ports above No 10.
Go to the ActiveSync settings on your PC and set the check box for the serial port. Select the one that was shown in the blueototh settings as incoming BT port.
On your Pocket PC, go to the Bluetooth settings. Select both checkboxes for the incoming and outgoing COM Port.
There you press start, go to your bluetooth device list and delete an existing pairing to the PC to which you want to connect to. Then re-pair the PPC with the computer again.
Afterwards, you can go to ActiveSync on your PPC and select "Connect via Bluetooth ...". That's it.
[/list]
hey dandie! what do i do if my pc assigns a com port of 11 and higher for my jam? i've tried the "show hidden" under device manger but my pc still keeps assigning a com port of 11 and higher?!
help
thanks
The COM port of PC and PPC DOESN'T have to be match. (No matter what BT stack you are using) In fact
Com port on Magician is FIXED at Com 5 and there is nothing to configure regarding the Com port over there.
On the PC, the BT stack choose whatever free com port them for serial connection. (eg: The blue soleil stack will tell you which com port is using in the pops up message when U BT activesync yr PPC to yr PC)
Then File > Connection Setting and select that port on yr PC's activesync.
(Sometimes, U have to try it serveral times to get activesync working)
After a lot of strugle with using Wireless Headsets, Serial Ports, Activesync over BT and Sideshow... i managed to have them all work.. on VISTA and XP.
So i decided to write a fully detailed tutorial for whoever needs it.
1. Know your Stack.
if your stack is the toshiba one, when you right click on the bt trayicon you should see OPTIONS..
if your stack is the microsoft one, ... well.. you will not see OPTIONS
2. before starting to deal with services i suggest you download one of the stacks below, according to your demand, and install them. also install Windows Mobile Device Center (from now on WMDC).
This is WMDC6.1 x86...
http://rapidshare.com/files/120340376/MobileDeviceCenter6.1-x86.exe.html
These are both the LATEST versions of both stacks: (up until the day of posting this message of course )
TOSHIBA STACK:
http://rapidshare.com/files/120186967/TOSHIBA_BTSTACK.zip
MS STACK:
http://rapidshare.com/files/120187911/MS_BTSTACK.exe
i strongly suggest you keep both files on your comp as a cover for any services one might provide while the other doesn't.
to save you the trouble. (after a correction from Jadel):
MS Stack works with both Activesync AND sideshow.
TOSHIBA Stack is problematic although more userfriendly AND provides some different options which might come handy. i had to go thru a ****load of trouble to sync it with Vista... and syncing it with XP isn't a teaparty either.
3. after finding out which one you have we can begin.
AS - ActiveSync.
this will probably be the most problematic service to have working since a lot of times it DOESNT APPEAR AS A SERVICE. when you try to sync with the comp it tells you you have to pair it.. even tho the device is already paired with the comp.
XP might be more flexible with this but the solution is for both XP and VISTA.
To Async using TOSHIBA Stack do the following:
a. open Control Panel and open the BT Ports editor..
b. add a port and choose it as a Server.. (usually it rounds up to ports 6 or 7 but you may have to try others..)
c. go to WMDC/Connection Settings and mark "Allow connections to one of the following.." and choose the port you created.
d. on your device go to Bluetooth Settings and add a new device... put the desired passkey... and you should see a list of the services the computer provides the PDA.
e. now this is a bit tricky to deal with. sometimes ActiveSync might not appear there. if it doesn't, go to COM Ports (in bluetooth settings on your device) and add the COM port you added on your comp..
go back to Devices and choose your comp and click Refresh. if ActiveSync appears there, mark it. if it doesn't, you should delete your comp from your device and this time add the port BEFORE finding your comp. it that doesn't work, you should follow the links i will provide soon.
f. on your device, open ActiveSync and under Menu choose Connect Via Bluetooth.
To Async using MICROSOFT Stack do the following:
a. open Control Panel and open Bluetooth Devices
b. click Add and add your device. go to Options and mark "Allow Bluetooth devices to find this computer" and "Allow Bluetooth Devices to connec to this computer". you can also mark other options as desired.
c. go to COM ports and add an INCOMING port. it will choose a port for you automatically.
d. go to WMDC/Connection Settings and mark "Allow connections to one of the following.." and choose the port you created.
e. go back to Devices and choose your PDA. choose Properties and go to Services. there you should see all services your PDA provides. one of them should be Active Sync Bluetooth Service. mark it and click OK. your comp and PDA should connect and disconnect a few secs later.
f. on your device, open ActiveSync and under Menu choose Connect Via Bluetooth.
(if these methods don't work you should follow the reference links in the below post).
SP - Serial Port.
some services demand a serial port. for instance, if you're using the Desktop iGO8 and would like to connect a BT GPS receiver to your comp the serial port service must be enabled. i found TOSHIBA's stack to be much more flexible concerning port usage. in Control panel you have a BT Ports icon somewhere.. if you double click on it.. it will let you play with the ports and change them to help you adjust various devices as well as use the ports as Clients or as Servers. this is important for ActiveSync as well (depending on the device).
An example:
Ipaq's Desktop iGO8 supports a Bluetooth GPS receiver. to use it, you have to define a COM port (just as we did for activesync, depending on your stack)...
you will have to define a port for the receiver and make sure the Serial Port service is marked or the program will not identify the PDA. some programs might NOT need this service at all.
(of course, this is only for people who want to use their PDA's GPS receiver. people who have a seperate GPS receiver might get the port number automatically when pairing it with the computer or have to find the correct port themselves (in older receivers).
also, to use the Networking feature you have to use the Serial port service. (i will post links for this as well).
WH - I would prefer leaving this for later as i play with it a little further.
SS - Sideshow. (Vista Users)
i tried using sideshow on 3 different devices. Wizard, Polaris and Titan.
all 3 came out with nothing when i used the TOSHIBA stack. the devices didn't discover the SideShow service even tho it was installed on my comp and my device was paired with the comp.
now if you're using the MICROSOFT stack.. it's a whole different area.
Alright. so a little batch of detailed insturctions about using this:
(during the process make sure your device is DISCOVERABLE)
IMPORTANT! you should make sure the Sideshow software is active on your device while doing this. i tried syncing the service once with it on and once off and it sorta confused me. so we'll just agree on having it ON.
To use sideshow using TOSHIBA Stack do the following:
a. on your device, go to Bluetooth Settings
b. add your device.
c. look for the Sideshow service in the list. if it's there, Mark it, (on your comp) go to control panel, go to sideshow, and you should be able to mark V on the gadgets you'd like to use.
d. if it's not there, you should add a port on both your device and your computer. the ports should match.
e. go back to devices and refresh the Services list.
f. to my knowledge, if it doesn't work up to this point, give it up
To use sideshow using MICROSOFT Stack do the following:
a. open Control Panel and open Bluetooth Devices
b. click Add and add your device. go to Options and mark "Allow Bluetooth devices to find this computer" and "Allow Bluetooth Devices to connect to this computer". you can also mark other options as desired.
c. go to COM ports and add an INCOMING port. it will choose a port for you automatically.
d. go to Devices and choose your PDA. choose Properties and go to Services. there you should see all services your PDA provides. one of them should be Windows Sideshow. mark it and click OK. your comp and PDA should connect and disconnect a few secs later.
e. go to control panel, go to sideshow, and you should be able to mark V on the gadgets you'd like to use.
after syncing the service and choosing the gadgets you'd like to use from Control Panel/Windows Sideshow you can go back to your device and go back to the sideshow software and click Connect....... ................. ........
TP - Technical Port (this concerns only people who use ASUS's GXP Factory PDA so if you're not, just ignore this).
for the GXP to control Wireless devices such as ELTO's waterpipe controller and Applied Materials' connectors you HAVE to have a Technical port enabled as a service. other than Serial port this is the only service the GXP provides, so you won't have much trouble enabling it as it's part of the software.. it will always appear. MAKE SURE you DO NOT create another bluetooth port as it will use it instead of the default one and you will not be able to control ANY of the wireless devices around you.
i will update this post further on with detailed instructions for the use of every service and some howtos.
Hope it helps.

sorry.. i will fix it when i get home.
links are now working and there is a more detailed explenation of.. it all.
if anyone has any additions, good links to other types of instructions or other types of bluetooth stacks.. please post them so i can add them to the guide.
thanks
hi,
first, thanks for this guide. i hope its helping others, but me wasnt successfull : (
here whats up:
dualcore notebook with toshiba bt stack, running Win XP (sp2+ new sp3)
htc polaris, custom rom
what ive done:
a. open Control Panel and open the BT Ports editor..
b. add a port and choose it as a Server.. (usually it rounds up to ports 6 or 7 but you may have to try others..)
heres my configuration:
Port Description Owner
----------------------------------------------
COM1 Toshiba BT Port (COM1) LocalCOM-Server[SerialPort(Toshiba LocalCOM1)]
COM2 Toshiba BT Port (COM1) LocalCOM-Server[SerialPort(Toshiba LocalCOM2)]
COM3 Motorola SM Speakerphone System
COM4 System
COM5 System
COM6 System
COM7 System
COM8 System
COM9 System
COM10 Toshiba BT Port (COM10) LocalCOM-Server[SerialPort(Toshiba LocalCOM10)]
c. go to WMDC/Connection Settings and mark "Allow connections to one of the following.." and choose the port you created.
-in my case COM1 and COM2
d. on your device go to Bluetooth Settings and add a new device... put the desired passkey... and you should see a list of the services the computer provides the PDA.
-yes, Bluetooth headset and SerialPort
e. now this is a bit tricky to deal with. sometimes ActiveSync might not appear there. if it doesn't, go to COM Ports (in bluetooth settings on your device) and add the COM port you added on your comp..
- not appearing, added the COM1 in the device, same as on notebook
go back to Devices and choose your comp and click Refresh. if ActiveSync appears there, mark it. if it doesn't, you should delete your comp from your device and this time add the port BEFORE finding your comp. it that doesn't work, you should follow the links i will provide soon.
- still not appearing, deleted my Notebook on the devices list. I tried to add the port before it found my notebook, but thats impossible because i cannot change the view when its searching bluetooth devices.
f. on your device, open ActiveSync and under Menu choose Connect Via Bluetooth.
- a dream
im fking sad its not working, i tried other tutorials, but alsways same result, been reinstalling AS, the BT stack.. the only thing i made no hardreset yet on my polaris.
to analyse:
choosing COM4 and COM7 on my device, it runs an error: The COM Port couldnt be done. Check the Settings und retry.
On my notebook i cannot delete COM4 till COM9, because they are used by the system.
I can only choose from COM0 (Zero) to COM9 in my device.
I have no problem to send/receive files from my notebook to pda and reverse.
if you have any suggestions to go further, really appreciated.
would be nice if you hit me a pm or start a convo on msn : )
thanbks so far
manaaa
**edit**
i attached the ports configuration after a fresh toschiba BT stack install
(POST EDITED)
Hi Nir36, awesome post! I had planned on doing this myself at some stage, but your details are far more inclusive than mine would have been. Good work!!
Here are a few additions:
In relation to Activesync and Bluetooth, the only way I personally (using a HTC Himalaya, WM6.1) was able to connect was by partnering the two devices from the mobile device side, not the PC side. I could only do this using Windows Xp’s built in Bluetooth drivers, and my device’s built-in Bluetooth drivers. Other drivers did not work for me. I suspect that whatever drivers you use on your mobile device should be used by the PC as well.
The information provided below is from me, the Windows Forum and Treo Central Forum, cobbled together and edited to suit this site. So cheers to those folk over there. It is for users of Windows XP.
***
1. First of all, open up “Control Panel” and open “Bluetooth Devices”.
2. Under the “Options” tab, tick the boxes in “Allow Bluetooth devices to connect to this computer” and “Alert me when a new Bluetooth device want to” and “Show the Bluetooth icon in the notification area” and “Turn discovery on”.
3. Under the “COM Ports” tab, click add. Add an incoming COM port below 9 (it appears numbers higher than that are not recognized). Click the “OK” button.
Now for the next part:
1. Ensure Bluetooth is turned on, on both your PC and Mobile Device, and each is in Discover Mode.
2. In Bluetooth setup on your Mobile Device, DELETE any existing partnership with the PC.
3. In Activesync on the Mobile Device, choose Connect via Bluetooth. Activesync will say it cannot, but will ask if you want to set up a new partnership. Choose yes.
4. When the Mobile Device Bluetooth application comes up and presents the Devices tab, click “Add New Device”. Go through the normal pairing process when it finds your PC (entering passcode on Mobile Device, accepting connection on PC, entering passcode on PC, etc.). It will probably not show "Activesync" as a service on the PC yet (you may have to tap on the “Advanced” tab to see the list of services provided from your PC).
NOTE: Sometimes the Bluetooth icon on your PC will not let you know that a Mobile Device is trying to connect until you double-click on it.
5. In ActiveSync on the PC, go to Connection Settings. Verify that it allowing connections via com ports (combo box) is checked and you can see a list of available com ports.
6. Here's the trial and error part. Start by selecting the same COM port in the list as what you selected under Bluetooth Devices on the PC, clicking OK. If Activesysnc gives you an error, start Step 5 over again and choose the next COM port on the list (change the one under Bluetooth Devices in Control Panel first) until you get one that does not produce an ActiveSync error (cannot connect to COM port). NOTE: DO NOT select "Bluetooth" from the drop down list. Don't forget to click OK each time and to close the Connection Settings dialog box.
7. On the Mobile Device click refresh. If "Activesync" shows up as a service from the PC, check it and you should be OK to select "Connect via Bluetooth" on the Mobile Device and start synchronizing. If "Activesync" still does not show up as a service, go back to Step 5 and just keep moving on to the next COM port in the list. One of them should work eventually.
NOTE: Others suggest that you need to make a connection with the PC first using the cradle and Activesync. Using the above steps, this was not the case in my case. I connected straight away with Bluetooth without ever first having to connect my device using the cradle and USB.

Connecting external Bluetooth GPS receivers to your Mobile Device for use with navigation software ie TomTom, Garmin etc
(by Jadel)
1. Switch your Bluetooth GPS device on (this example is with an early model Navman external GPS device).
2. Pair your Bluetooth GPS device with your Mobile Device first using your device Bluetooth manager (Go to the devices tab and “Add new device”, click on the name corresponding to your external Bluetooth device, entering passcode on Mobile Device which should come with GPS device’s documentation).
3. After this, make sure to choose the “Advanced” option which will give you the choice of choosing a serial connection. Select it and click “save”.
4. Go to the tab down the bottom that says “COM Ports” a new “Outgoing Connection” and then which port you want to use. I always choose COM5 as this seems to work fastest, most stable etc (on a HTC Himalaya and HTC Hermes).
5. Then, leave your Mobile Devices bluetooth on and in discoverable mode.
6. After this, load up your software (TomTom/Garmin etc).
7. The correct COM port should then appear in the list of possible COM ports for you to choose from in your software’s External Bluetooth GPS device section (the correct COM port should be the same as the outgoing COM port ie COM5). After that, all should be well with the world.
Note: Sometimes your mobile device may reset when it is scanning the COM port in your navigation software if the incorrect COM port is chosen.

Go online with Activesync: Skype over Bluetooth Activesync
(by Jadel)
If you managed to get your device to sync over Bluetooth using the above guide, then most of this should work automatically. If you connect correctly, you should be able to use most internet related applications on your device such as MSN Messenger, Windows Live, Pocket Internet Explorer (PIE) and Opera. Email should also work.
But you can also use Skype! Even though it says you need WiFi or 3G, it can also work over Bluetooth ActiveSync.
This means that if someone else is using the computer (family members etc) you can still call people and send messages to them over Skype.
1. Install the SkypeforPocketPC.cab file on your phone.
2. After it installs, log in, and make sure it remembers your login details, by ticking the “remember me” box.
3. When it asks how you plan to connect, make sure to chose “Wifi and 3G”.
4. If you choose just Wifi, it won’t work.
That should be all you need! You may need to restart your device or re-establish the Activesync to get it to work. The first time I tried this, I was able to do the echo test and pass, but my messages did not send. The second time I connected, everything worked.
And having tested Skype over Bluetooth Activesync many times, I can tell you that the sound was perfect/crystal clear. I think the minimum you need for Skype is about 54Mbps, whereas Bluetooth 1.1 (older Bluetooth) transfers at about 750Mbps if I am not mistaken.

Cheers Nir36.
PS Good work!
Jadel, this is great. i don't want to add it to my post.. but to leave it like this.. it's much better having a whole thread concucted by different people with different solutions than having one guide.
i would be happy if other people added more posts like this one.. so we can collect a whole thread for others to look at when they need to solve their bluetooth issues.
i will be developing it more.. adding links and such.. but it'll take time as i'm in the middle of my final exams.
and in reference to manaa's problem.
from what i've read around in different websites, no one was able to have the ActiveSync service show when using ports other than 5-9 (only when using TOSHIBA's Stack. when using MS Stack you can use any port to my knowledge). if anyone made it thru other ports, please post the solution here. i suggest you try and check if you can switch some system ports to other ports and then move one of your BT server ports to 5,6,7,8 or 9... and then try again.
hope it works.
i hope that with time we will be able to build up a pack of solutions for anyone who wishes to use AS with TOSHIBA's stack.. so that we won't have to go thru all that trial and error **** everytime.
Sounds like a good idea Nir36. Have edited my post down slightly so as to leave it as is. Will try add to it when I get the chance as well.
PS did you have a look at this section of your post below?
Under your description for “Async using Microsoft bluetooth stack”, part D mentions Windows Mobile Device Centre. Are you sure this shouldn’t be Activesync? Just checking.
Cheers!
well.. XP AND Vista can both work with WMDC. i'm assuming that people would upgade from ActiveSync to WMDC. the MICROSOFT Stack has nothing to do with either WMDC or ActiveSync... they are both PC clients, not drivers.
to be clear. WMDC and ActiveSync can both work with MICROSOFT Stack and TOSHIBA Stack.
WMDC6.1 x86... Got that in Vista64 flavour?
What version Toshiba stack is this?
Also, why do you even need the MS stack? I have everything from activesync to A2DP, to PAN (basically, you name it and it works) functioning with just the toshiba stack.
I'm running XP.

well, it depends on your device rather than on your stack (sometimes).
i have a Polaris and when i try to get an ActiveSync service using the toshiba stack i .. well.. can't. so i have to use MS stack which works wonderfully.
it's less GUI'd but it's working.

That's odd, I also have a Polaris...ActiveSync works without any issues on my Toshiba stack. What version of the Toshiba stack did you post?
