Just noticed this today after I flashed Fresh Rom 1.1..I get a notification that i have 3 new messages, open up the gmail app..it counts 3 unread emails, yet only 1 new email shows. I go to www.gmail.com, login..and sure enough there are 3 new emails.
Anyone else have this problem?
I came across the same issue a couple of days ago. under the gmail app go to view all lables option and select the all mail tab. That will show emails that for some reason dont show up in the inbox tab...that seemed to have fixed the issue for me since it was annoying to have over 20 unread emails all the time althought i had read em all..
Switched back to Gumbo 1.5C..it displays new emails properly, guess I'll be stayin with that!
To fix that problem you go to Settings-> Applications -> Manage Applications -> Gmail Storage -> Clear Data. After that it should sync again and show the correct mail count. That usually happens when you flash or do a nandroid restore.

Confirmed, clearing the data will fix this issue.
Just factory reset a Samsung Intercept. Half of the contacts were deleted, N-Z, but A-M are still there. They were deleted from gmail.
I cant figure out how to get them back, I tried to use the gmail restore feature, to as far back as 30 days ago, and still only a-m are there.
What happened? How can I get them back?
I didn't have a backup because I thought google was the back up.
Try this, my wife had all her contacts "deleted" by the froyo OTA.
Open up contacts and hit menu > display options
her section here had nothing checked (ie: nothing displaying). i checked everything off and saved and they all showed up. good luck!
EDIT: oooh wait, i just read that, it sounds like you might have been saving contacts to the phone and not directly to google, thats why they disappear when you factory reset (ie: wipe data), not too much you can do i dont think
Hello,
Having some different issues with my Nexus S, I've decided to freshly reinstall everything. I've deleted all data from SD/USB card, did a factory reset of the phone, then moved the full 2.3.4 ROM. After a successful install, it came to my surprise that the custom wallpaper that I've used before the format was there ! Same goes for a couple of settings that were probably saved online and then restored.
How to completely delete these settings that are stored online and perform some real clean installation ?
Thanks in advance !

thats because after you log in to your google account, your settings, wallpaper, and bookmarks got restored. you probably checkmarked a setting that allows google to back your stuff up.
Of course that is obviously the explanation. But is there a way to delete these online-stored settings ?

after you factory reset, while going through the setup before you get to the homescreen, dont enable google backup/restore.
Yeah but in that case I would lose all my contacts, right ? (I got my SIM card weeks ago and there's not a single contact on it)
no my friend, sync services is not the same as backup settings.
You can set sync sevices (contacts, calendar, mail, music, etc) in "Account and Sync" menu and set backup data (wallpapers, settings, wi-fi passwords, etc) in "Pricacy" menu.
you can also import your contacts from the gmail page via the desktop browser. press contacts and all your contacts are there.
Wonderful. Thank you guys for your answers
You can't really delete the WLAN settings, apps you had installed, wallpaper settings etc once they are in the cloud, you can just choose to not have them applied or restored. Deleting your Google account would anonymize those settings after a period of 6(?) months.
Hi, on my Wife's Samsung Galaxy S4 (AT&T) Non-Rooted Phone. Her contact Pictures keep changing to a blank Picture. I went on line using a PC and went to her Google Contacts and her pictures of her contacts were there. So I thought it might be a Sync issue..tried syncing and it didn't work...tried restarting, that didn't work...I went to her Application Manager on her phone and cleared the cache and data on each of the following Apps and restarted after each time I cleared the app data/cache, till I found out which one was causing this issue..
CONTACTS
CONTACTS STORAGE
GOOGLE CONTACT SYNC
I don't know what causes this or how I can stop it from happening...I will have to preform this action every 1-2 weeks to correct it, only to have it change again...
I was wondering:
Does anyone else have this issue?
Do you know how to fix it?
Do you know why this keeps happening?
Aside from wiping out here phone and starting it from scratch, (Time consuming) I want to understand the cause behind it first...
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!!!

Yes....they all sync without any issues...she don't have to touch the phone and it automatically does this on it's own..I was thinking it had something to do with AT&T Address Book Sync...but not sure what it could be as COM STORAGE seems to have been the only thing that set it back to normal when I cleared the Cache and Data.....

It could very well be the AT&T program. Freeze it with TiBu, and see if it keeps the correct contact pictures.

Thanks will do...I'll test that out when I get home..
Update: Moderators can close this post. The issue has been resolved. It was a system upgrade that went OTA and had glitches. Had to do a re-install of the OS and factory reset...now everything is perfect...
I've learned from bouncing around that this isn't normal behavior. My Contacts will not remember it's display setting. If I choose Menu -> Contacts to Display -> Google or anything else, the minute I leave the app it defaults to "All". Any suggestions on how to fix this?
Edit: Turns out there's some sort of conflict between Go Launcher and the Contacts app. When I'm using TouchWiz, the setting sticks. The minute I switched back to Go Launcher, the setting erased and Contacts uses All. Let them know and hoping for a fix.
