Hello,
Having some different issues with my Nexus S, I've decided to freshly reinstall everything. I've deleted all data from SD/USB card, did a factory reset of the phone, then moved the full 2.3.4 ROM. After a successful install, it came to my surprise that the custom wallpaper that I've used before the format was there ! Same goes for a couple of settings that were probably saved online and then restored.
How to completely delete these settings that are stored online and perform some real clean installation ?
Thanks in advance !

thats because after you log in to your google account, your settings, wallpaper, and bookmarks got restored. you probably checkmarked a setting that allows google to back your stuff up.
Of course that is obviously the explanation. But is there a way to delete these online-stored settings ?

after you factory reset, while going through the setup before you get to the homescreen, dont enable google backup/restore.
Yeah but in that case I would lose all my contacts, right ? (I got my SIM card weeks ago and there's not a single contact on it)
no my friend, sync services is not the same as backup settings.
You can set sync sevices (contacts, calendar, mail, music, etc) in "Account and Sync" menu and set backup data (wallpapers, settings, wi-fi passwords, etc) in "Pricacy" menu.
you can also import your contacts from the gmail page via the desktop browser. press contacts and all your contacts are there.
Wonderful. Thank you guys for your answers
You can't really delete the WLAN settings, apps you had installed, wallpaper settings etc once they are in the cloud, you can just choose to not have them applied or restored. Deleting your Google account would anonymize those settings after a period of 6(?) months.

I am running CM5b4 and have noticed that the backup option even though enabled does not backup any of my settings or apps after a wipe. Is this feature disabled in custom roms? Is there something I'm missing that does not allow a proper sync? Picasa, gmail, calender, etc...all sync properly. Thanks in advance XDA!

It doesn't actually back up your apps...just the record of what apps you had. It does backup your bookmarks and settings to the cloud, however. Upon booting after a wipe, it should automatically sync your settings, bookmarks, and download your apps from the Market if you have a data connection.
Thanks. The market list did show up with both free/paid apps but after a few minutes only the paid apps remained and non downloaded automatically. As to settings and bookmarks they never reappeared. I had a 3g connection the whole time. Would flashing the stock rom before cm5b4 or possibly formatting the SD card be a possible fix for my issue or would it not matter since its only supposed to sync with Google's servers? Any suggestions are welcome.
You're gonna have to wait for someone else to answer that... I'm unrooted.
I'm on cyanogenMod 5.0 b4. I can check. I don't know where that "backup my settings" thing is, though. Where can I find that?
It's located under Settings>Privacy>Bacup Up My Settings...I found that when I flashed back to the shipping rom (stock) ER79 the feature worked fine, but when flashing to cm5b4 it stopped working again.
perhaps you can check:
settings --> Privacy
took me long enough time to figure that out

Yes. You flashed back to stock, and I assume you didn't load any apps, so Google's last record of your system was one without any apps, hence they're off the list.
I really hope someone can tell me how to get that option back, it's not in the MidNIGHT ROM. (I'm on an Epic)
I know its an old thread but I didn't want to open a new one.
Is there a website I can visit to see what's backed up for which devices under my accounts. I have 4 android devices, I'm curious whats up all in there, as seemingly this process does work, but sometimes not 100%

www.google.com/dashboard
that is the most extensive look at your data that I know of. the only thing it shows with regard to Android is your IMEI number for your devices. maybe poke around and see if you can find more stuff.
My sync icon in the notification bar will not go away. Anyone know why? I'm not sure how to check if my google account is being synced correctly, I don't think it's syncing correctly.
Attached is a screen capture.
Lol you don't want that to go away
Restored system data with Titanium?
It's appears to be a bug in Titanium Backup.

Open "My Accounts" click your Google account and choose Syncing options.

Yep, until titanium finds a fix (if there even is one since it's not great to reload system data, especially from a different OS version), that's the way to go. Of course you then need to rebuild all of your system data (wifi, bt, ringtones, etc).
I'm having the same problem after using MyBackup Pro. I looked in my account sync settings and although the google account sync box is unchecked, the 3 items (contacts, calender etc) are all constantly syncing. It's killing my battery and i really don't want to do another factory reset as it's taken me ages to get my new replacement streak (lcd cracked on 1st one) to how i had the original even though I had backed everything up.
Got a sort-of fix. I did a new full data backup, did a factory reset & restored everything except contacts and calender, google syncs those anyway + that causes the conflict.

So i am a frequent flasher, i like to try different ROMs and I have a problem with recovering my data. It seems to be a huge pain in the ass with android. With Win Mo it was simple, one click on SPB backup and everything was restored. Not on Android.
I am using only Desire HD or Z based ROMS, currently NAND wit SD IMG. I am looking for a simple way how to backup and restore following settings:
1. CONTACTS - and I mean all contacts with all detail. I have my contacts synched with FB, Twitter, LinkedIn, Skype etc. Google sync and HTC Sense pretends that its synched, but after flash, only basic google contact is synced and I have to manually add all the login info for those services and then wait for them to be asociated and then asociate those that were not connected manually.
2. SMS - this could be solved by using SMS backup, but it would be nice not to have a special application for that. I also have suspicion, that sometimes this is restored from cloud and sometimes not. After one flash, I thought that my sms are lost, because i didnt backup them. After another flash, they miraculously reapeared without me doing anything. WTF?
3. Call log
4. EMAIL SETTINGS - I dont want to set up all the email after each flash.
5. Apss and Data - yeas, this could be done by several apps, smallest problem.
6. System DATA - by that i mean mostly my homescreen setup, wifi settings, bookmarks, RSS feeds, calendar, tasks etc. Something seems to be synced by google, something not. Some apps do that, but after restore, they mess up whole system and cause repeated errors (acore etc.)
IS THERE A ONE APP ONE CLICK SOLUTION FOR THAT?
What pisses me most is the inability of Gmail or HTCSENSE to sync all the information of my contacts. WTF? WHy it cant store all the info, pictures etc. WHy even HTC sense couldnt do it? WHat the hell is HTC SYNC good for, when only option to sync contacts with PC is to sync them to Outlook, whioch is not even available in windows anymore!
I tried several apps and they mostly fail. When tried My Backup Root to backup contacts, it created 800 duplicated contacts out of 300 and when google sync steps in the way during that, it will even mess up your data on the cloud. When i tried to restore system settings with this app I ended up with broken system with error every second.
I dont know how to force Titanium to backup my system data, or SMS and I doubt its possible. When I selected batch full apps+data backup, it didnt recovered even my homescreen setup.
Is it really ncessary to fiddle with my phone for several hours after each flash to get it into previous shape?
the answer is pretty simple
use this application 'mybackup pro'
and install it then you can configure how to backup
it will backup all your app and data
and when you flash a new rom you can restore everything
android is cool
i'm cool too
Is mybackup pro better than titanum backup ?
As far as i get it, My Backup Pro is paid version of My Backup Root which messed my contacts and caused my system to crash after restoring system settings.
Hello,
When i first opened the phone, i used a gmail account to update phone. But now, i want to delete this email because i added a new gmail account and i cant make this email as main account. When i try this, it says " The phone needs that email, if you want to disable this email, reset phone and every data will be deleted."
Is there any way to disable this first email without losing any data?
To my knowledge, it's not possible. The setup requires an account to backup all the apps downloaded of the market, contacts, calendar, email etc...You can stop it from syncing with that particular account, but it CANNOT be removed as such.
The only way to get rid of it is to factory reset/wipe the phone and start fresh with the desired account. It's a bit annoying, but I understand why it does that...

Ah, you want to change gmail accounts, from the old to "new" as primary?
Well first thing you need to do is this.
1. Go to Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications
2. Click on Gmail in the list and, if needed, "Force Stop" then "Clear data"
3. Click on Google Apps in the list and, if needed, "Force Stop" it, but DO NOT clear data
4. Click on "Clear Data" on Gmail Storage
5. Exit back to the phone's Home and open the Gmail app
6. Re-enter your Google account info.
This should work and hope it does !
cirnocirno i did that but i think it did not change the main account because for example when i try to backup sms on go sms pro, i am supposed to send to this old email from new email.
How can i understand if it is main email or not?
Look, i am trying to download applications from desktop pc from market via this new email but it says there is no mobile connected to this email. How i can change that?

What that I posted up did was wipe the gmail account handler allowing you to change primary email. Myself I did this with my old android phone because I messed up with my old email and had lots of spam and such. So I didn't like that
I have no idea why it doesn't work for you.
Another thing which my friend in rl said you could try is this.
It was simple enough though.
1. Make sure Marketplace is not open.
2. Setting > Application > Manage Application > Clear Data from Google Apps
3. Open Marketplace, it should prompt you to login with your gmail username and password.
Worst case, factory reset. I am sad that google haven't implemented away to change these kind of things, it's as stupid as forcing notification sounds through the speakers and not with the active output(headset/headphones).
Primary email was changed but for android market , it was not changed.
I did what you told in your last post but now i cant open market. I restarted phone but still it was not opened. It says error, try again later. What happened?
Ok now i can open market. When i first opened, it did not ask me to prompt with a email.
If i backup everything, and then reset; then restore again, my phone, my applications my sms, etc will be the same as now?

if you backup all things and restore they should be normally. If the backup application you use do it so. Myself I don't backup as most things are not worth
Hi,
I have the Nexus 4 from LG, running Android with all the latest updates.
For the last 2 week I have been having the issue that contacts disappear. It started with SMS/Text messages not recognizing the sender from the contacts. Then you realize that the contact has disappeared.
I then went to Gmail and did a restore and got back my contacts.
Today morn I had 1029, now I have 672. You can see images I captured over the day today. Top right shows the number of contacts.
I have already deleted the COntacts from the apps and re-sync etc.
Raj
I'm having a similar problem and although I don't have a complete fix I have been using the Go Contacts EX app to backup contacts to a vcf file and then the contacts can easily be restored from there. Google keeps deleting my contacts even though I have syncing disabled.
Looks like someone is deleting ur contacts...

Maybe that is what it looks like to you but that is not at all what is happening. I was setting up the phone before I gave it to a family member as a gift. I was the only one besides Google making any changes to it. I have deleted the google account from the phone and will next start using system tuner to disable services until the problem is solved.
try this...
1. Make a full backup of your contacts. To backup ur contacts use any third party app from the playStore. I recommend using [SMS Backup & Restore] by Ritesh Sahu.
2. Make sure you have only one main Google account syncing. If you have any other gmail accounts go to settings > Accounts > click on the other accounts and remove it for now.
3. go to settings > backup and reset > uncheck Backup my data (this will erase all of ur backups on Google servers).
4. Restart your phone and restore you contacts using SMS Backup & Restore.
5. Go to settings again > Accounts > Google > here you should see your gmail account. On top right corner click on the three dots > Sync now. Wait until it finish syncing.
6. You can now re-enable Backup my data. Settings > Backup & Reset > Check Backup my data.
7. Re add your other gmail accounts.
Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestions. I had tried all that before I posted here. Now I have used Startup Manager to disable the Google Contacts Sync service so we'll see how that goes.

I am having the same exact issue you are having. My contacts keep getting deleted on a daily basis on my Samsung Galaxy S4 Phone (Sprint)
Where you ever able to sort out this issue?

Yes. I disabled all Google Sync services and eventually got it to work (it did take some experimentation though). I tried both System Tuner (i.e., the Startup Manager) and Titanium Backup to disable (hibernate) it. I currently have Ubuntu Touch on that phone so am unable to give you the exact configuration. Good luck!
Badboy's directions worked for me.
Although, I didn't make any backups. I'm putting in my contacts manually. The most crucial part was removing all accounts except one. From that point on, things started working.
SOLVED!!
