Hey Guys,
I'm having trouble with my Messaging program. It sometimes doesn't show messages, and sometimes it shows empty messages. Sometimes I delete items, but it'll still say "2 unread messages".
It's driving me insane, it's not been a week since I hard reset and installed everything from scratch.
My MMS is screwed up as well! I try to send a message, it gets sent but the Magician keeps my message in the outbox. I go to the outbox and see that i have 1 unread mesage which does not show itself on screen! I was also sent some MMS Messages and the same thing happened, as the magician says 2 items unread, but does not show the message itself.
the only workaround i've done is to do a hard reset and restore my data (thanks to sprite backup)! its frustrating that i cant get my mms to work on the magician. any clues as to how this can be solved?
Yeah, that's what I did as well. But I reinstalled everything manually... because the last Sprite Backup I had was also messed up in Messaging.
Its becouse of spritebackup i think...
So... the solution would be to not backup your messages with Sprite?
The problem is Sprite messing up the Pocket Outlook databases. Not using Sprite for messages is an obvious workaround, but I think I read in a thread on this site that Sprite has a fix as well. You might want to check their website.

Hi, I'm having a a slight problem with my XDA2. After an accidental hard reset when I was changing my simcard, I restored it using activesync but now there's a rather annoying problem with the sms menu where there's one sms that I cannot delete. The annoying part is when that sms counts as unread and now the today screen constantly shows I have one unread message when in truth there's none. I tried moving the messages to another folder but now I have another undeletable sms in my drafts folder(and when i try to open these messages, a blank message comes up even though the content summary shows perfectly well on the message list screen). I also have one more corrupted message in my inbox that shows [no sender] and [no subject] which remains at the top of the list and cant even be opened. I try to open it, the messafe opening screen transition comes out but then nothing happens. I'm sorry if I may seem ranting on but this is my first pda and I'd rather not lose all the SMS i keep in my archive folder. Any help is appreciated. Oh, after reading some posts here to find a solution, no, I'm not using Sprite Backup or anything.
I have exactly the same problem except I have more ghost messages, I am using sprite backup though if that has any relevance...?
any ideas?
yeah i had the second problem with the sms u can't open on my xda II, but i had hundreds that i couldn't view or delete.
seemed the only way to fix it was to hard reset.. but u might try and get that pocket mechanic i think it is, where you can edit the system databases.. just a thought.
You may use dbView to directly delete these messages from WinCE database (make backup first).
Most probably this message is located somewhere in fldrXXXX data table.
Hi im a new member of the forum.
I have had my XDAII for a year now and i needed to restore my data after a hard reset using xbackup.
I thought that restoring restores everything that was backed up, but no. My inbox has my sms messages shown but i cannot open them to read; i cannot even delete them. My messages show up with out an envelope on the left hand side of the list.
Can anyone either tell me how to get my messages back or get rid of my old messges, as i have tried to delete them, but no joy; i have also tried select all and delete but only to delete my sms messages recieve since restoring.
Thanks in advance
Nick
cant delete sms messages
HI there - I know you wrote about your sms deletion issue back in 2005 but did you ever get a reply? I have the same issue, with a selection of items in the Inbox, Outbox and Deleted folder, which just wont go, doesn't matter what I do. Just wondered if you managed to fix the issue?
S
Set up Vario II yesterday, all appeared fine, installed all my 'must have' software and was ecstatic.
However, I discovered that despite having 'ticked all the right boxes' in options, a soft reset made all my texts (inbox and sent) vanish.
When I created a new folder in inbox to store read messages, and soft reset, this vanished too.
Does anyone have any ideas? Is this happening to anyone else?
Also, if I hard reset and then install a backup, will this re-install the problem?
Any ideas welcome.

Lost messages
I too have disappearing texts on my Tytn. It appears to be just sms messages that disappear and its very frustrating. Its possible it happens after a soft reset and if I havent opened the unread sms prior to reset - also I know its not for this topic but I have also found that my device freezes if I try and open my text messages whilst syncing with WMP. VERY FRUSTRATING.
Lost messages
Actually I have lots of syncing issues with Tytn. Better post a topic. Anyone know of any decent sync software. Activesync is crap!

how do you soft-reset? if you softreset using the stylus it won't write the txt messages and other settings to the memory. If you softreset using the on/off button it should write the messages to the memory. Hold the on/off button for a few seconds and press yes when the message appears on the screen!
Aha!
All of a sudden my text messages don't disappear, in fact, ever since I installed Wisbar lite task manager, which has a soft reset button in the task manager.
On the Vario, holding down the on/off button only closes the device.
So, in conclusion, I reckon that on this machine (didn't used to happen on my old 2003SE) if you use the stylus to reset, then you lose texts, if you use another method then you don't.
Let's hope that's it.
MDA Vario II - T-Mobile.
On my 'Today' screen, it informs me that I have 4 text messages. When I click on the 'link' there is nothing in my text messages 'inbox'.
I've even sent on from another phone, and I can't see it anywhere!
Has anyonr got any advice?
Thanks
Ratzz
are you sure you're definately in the text messages inbox?
if you click on 'inbox' (top left) it'll show you a list of directories;
imap4
mms
outlook email
text messages
then click on text messages to go to the inbox folder.
appologies if you know this already!
Yep - that's exactly where I'm looking - and I have checked all the other folders (services) too.
There is absolutely nothing there - although I can, and do have emails.
weird! do your text messages flash up on the today screen (preview) when you receive them?
Have you restored your settings from an old backup? This can cause problems in PIM sometimes...
[bigshape]
I don't have a preview on the today screen, just a notification:
"Text Messages: 4 Unread"
Clicking on this brings me to the 'Text Messages Inbox" but there is nothing there!
[pof]
No, I haven't done a restore - I've had my phone one week.
Also(!)
When I send a text message from the phone (after clicking on send) it remains in the "Outbox" and does not get sent.
Anyone got any ideas?
soft reset your tytn or keep opening text inbox, it will evently shows up
thanks netboy, i had a message waiting to be delivered, and the soft reset sent it - however, the today screen stll says i have 5 messages and there is nothing in my inbox.
Have you received any text messages since you noticed the problem? if no, have you tried asking a friend to send you a text to see if that makes them all come through at the same time? worth a try, it might fix it
Hi Nicky - I've just sent a text from my old phone, and I am receiving them, but still cannot find the other 5!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!
I also had this problem, i used this software to reset the unread count: http://home.comcast.net/~relmerator/
My girlfriend sent me a text and some how i deleted all my messages from her before reading it. Now it has the 1 Unread SMS thing on my screen constantly. Ive tried a soft reset. But it just wont go.
Any ideas?
Thanks
whinge. haha nah, hard reset perhaps?
I really dont wanna have to do that, ill lose everything
try receiving a new one :m
or try doing a backup with ppcpimbackup and then restore the message overwriting all the existing ones.
Happens to me sometimes. Just tap on the "1 unread message", it will open "Messaging", then the message will disappear.
Lol you crazy? Make a backup of something that isn't working anymore to use it after a hardreset so that the problem is back there?
@liam08, try SmsImport which you can find here: http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-smsimport-v1-0-1.html
Perhaps it will get you back some msgs, I'm sure it's worth a try. Otherwise you could try to wipe the messages using the built-in function of poutlook.
Same happened to me. I have solved in this way:
- disable threaded SMS from advanced config or xperiatweak
- reboot
- delete unreaded message (in non-threaded view you'll surely view the message in the "big" list...)
- re-enable threaded SMS
- reboot
