Hi guys...
Can anyone tell me how to share/access files present on my hard drive so that I need not copy the files to my PPC. I did not mean " Activesync"
I probably remember someone by name "KARIM" who had mentioned about this in one of the imate forums. but I don't remember where it is now. He explained about installing the widcomm bluetooth stack & then having resco explorer 2003 installed. u can create a network share & map ur hard drives and access files on pocket pc. that would be rocking... u don't have to copy ur images/music to ur PPC. u could play them thru bluetooth at a decent speed.
can anyone help me out on this. It would be highly appreciated if anyone could give step by step instructions on how to go ahead with this.
I am having Widcomm Bluetooth stack installed from xda forum & I am using TDK Bluetooth Adapter. I have even resco explorer installed. I have updated my ROM to 1.11 WWE
awaiting for ur earliest reply.
Thanks & Regards
Iffu
Hmm ok, I think you are trying to do what I have done...
I can access the HDD on my Desktop pc from my XDA/i-Mate over a BT link.
The HDD on my desktop is shared out across the network, and the shared drives can be accessed by the PDA, using resco you can map network drives to the PDA and voila the drives are there.
This took me about 3 weeks to get running. The problem is My solution will probably be no good to you as it involves using my server which has Win Server 2003 on it and the solution involves using network address translation to the bluetooth network.....
I can hope fully give you some pointers though.
You need The widcomm stack on your mobile device as the pathertic MS builtin stack does not support the required profiles.
Get the widcomm stack installed and working ok, install the BT dongle and software on your desktop pc as well, you may get a network connection error icon on your desktop pc system tray. this is because the bluetooth network is off.
we are interested in the 'Network' profile (not the PAN profile), make sure the network access profile on the Desktop is enabled, create a paring to the desktop using widcomm stack, and the 'connect to a network' icon, the desktop pc will probaby ask for permission to connect. ( here is a major annoyance - you can select a checkbox that says ' always allow this connection' (or similar) this only works until the desktop pc is rebooted, after a reboot you will need to give permission again!! Since my server is very rareley rebooted it does not cause me a major problem - but if you find a way round it please let me know!)
Your desktop pc should report that the bluetooth network is now connected.
disconnect the connection, but you should now have a shortcut on your PDA in widcomm connection manager to the network connection.
Now for the tricky bit. If your Desktop is part of a network it gets difficult. if not it's easier...
We need to setup some ip addresses for the BT Lan. Decide on some ip addresses. you need one for the desktop and one for the PDA. (eg 192.168.0.50 & 192.168.0.51 mask=255.255.255.0)
On the desktop configure the ip address on the 'Bluetooth network' lan connection as you would any other lan card
On the PDA goto start/settings/connections (TAB)/connections/advanced (TAB)/network card - in the box labelled 'tap an adapter to modify settings' select Bluetooth PAN user driver' (if this is not here, your widcomm is not installed correctly) .This is where you put in the ip config for your BT network on the PDA
Now connect the BT network link again (Widcomm BT manager)
You should be able to ping your PDA with it's BT ip from your desktop, if it works, your BT LAN is now working. ( you can also get some free ping software for the PDA too, to test the other direction do a search for vxutil)
if the pings work ok, load up Resco and tell it to map a drive, hopefully the Desktop and it's shared disks should appear.
Let me know how you go...

hmm but i think it's to many work :? i've got BT finally workt on my M500 for a few weeks now and don't wanna mess up with the widcomm drivers
maybe in the future with another Rom and maybe WM5 there's a better solution
The widdcom stack does not work on the mini.
U can try the bluesoleil stack... it has many profiles ( PAN, OPP, SYNC, LAP, DUN, FTP, FAX, HID, SPP, HCRP, BIP, Headset, AV ).. and it works on the mini.

no i don't think that it's standard if you mean that.
i mean if i set up the widcomm drivers maybe my BT is going to failure, it cost to many work to get it back on again... :?
it workt on my M500 in combonation with the Sitecom BT stick and the new drivers, so no wiodcomm drivers are been used

Hi i was just wondering if the camera on the front of the device can be used as a webcam while on msn messenger?Or if perhaps in some way it could be modified. It'd just be a cool thing to have when your away!cheers
if you mean a webcam for your pc then do a search for webcam in the forum because the universal would as much possible to act as the role of webcam as any other htc device with a cam
No i mean a webcam in itself.Since it will be capable of 3g calls i see n reason reason why i couldn't,in some shape or form be a webcam in itself while on msn on the ppc.Perhaps with some tweaking,i don't know just a question
oohh ok well does messenger pocket support webcams at all ?
i dident think it did
if it does it just need to support the htc cam
with ms portrait they dident support htc cams
if it does not support webcams then maybe in a future version
theres no options for it i can see, shame tho, i use jasjar alot on wifi and it could have so much potential for msnm
maybe in the next version

soz but i think you got the wrong end of the stick there,
agreed that is good and has it been successfull on the universal?? if so im gonna grab that baby!!!!!, If im correct that app is used to use the universal "AS" the webcam for a desktop pc, for use in msnm etc, but im on about pocket msnm actually on the phone, using the webcam within the phones version, surlly that is a big oops by M$ specially as theyre charging for the upgrade to the version on the universal
argh, to many different versions of the same thing!
Doesn't work on my JasJar. It complains: "Error opening HTCcamera.dll" or something along those lines.
it works on mine mda pro.
It uses the 1.3MP camera instead of the Cmos one..
And the screen is upside down on the pc, and i must hold the camera also upside down to get a straight picture.
its a great app !
It's a shame it cannot be used as a webcam in pocket msnm.Would be a great feature

I am hoping they are working on an API that will allow the second camera to be used as a webcam. I know MSN Portrait supports that on previous PPCs that had to have an camera installed via SDIO/card, so I don't see why it wouldn't be able to do the same with a built in cam

So let's keep our fingers crossed. This would be the killer app.

Turn your new HTC pda into a webcam!
Turn your HTC PDA into a webcam
(a little slow and not as good quality as internal video, but still a neat little trick)
Note **** This is a trial version for 14 days ****
1. Download the following files
http://www.virtual-gadgets.com/download/LxCamView.exe
http://www.virtual-gadgets.com/download/LxCam1.01.exe
2. Copy LxCamView to the desktop computer and make a shortcut
3. Copy LxCam1.01.exe to the pda and make a shortcut
4. On Desktop/server, configure the firewall appropriately: add a TCP service with IP address of the Pocket PC (or internal lan or allow any device) with port number 4444
5. Start Wifi or Activesync Connnection
6. Start LxCamView on the desktop computer
7. Start LxCam1.01.exe on the pda
8. Select tools, then select ip address, enter ip address of pc/workstation,select ok
You should see the image!
On Pocket PC, setting HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Zone1\LxCam\Rotate to 1 rotates the picture by 180 degrees
He also has a great photo app that takes pictures with the pda camera and auto ftp's them to your web site... The photo app was cheap and works well on my jasjar, pda2k and my son's hp6315.
Check out this developers web site for more info

and no, I don't have anything to do with this web site or developer; I just thought he had a couple of good apps....
Does this work as a webcam for MSN? I know there used to be an app that did it for other PPCs, but that it didn't work for MSN.
I got my Wing few days ago. I migrated from HP6315 WM2003 to WM 6. I hate many "enhancements" making things more cumbersome in WM6... Anyhow, nothing can be done about this.
Question, is anyone able to run TomTom 6 on their Wing device? I am not getting any luck with this. Is this WM6 compatibility issue?
i've been running tomtom6 on my wing since day one and the only trouble get is trying to answer calls while tomtom was running, the incoming call window comes up but thats it i can't answer or do anything while its going. other than that its been great since i installed it.
i have been having the same problem. pretty annoying. And another problem is which i had when i was using wm6 on my wizard is that if you are on today screen and you tap on start it switches back to tomtom. and i when do get a call during tomtom 6 use the phone keeps vibrating even after the caller has hung up.
after running some tests on this it seems that when receiving a call and using tomtom u can't answer it because the application for some reason doesn't give control to the phone app. You have press the start menu key and then u can answer the call or hang up. nothing to do with the ram its more so that tomtom needs to update there application for WM6
Running TomTom 6.1 on XDA terra without any problems. Sorry. And after changing the pagepoolsize it is rnning quite well - even with phoncalls.
I´m happy with it.
i just got a t-mobile wing and i would like to run tom tom on it where can i get a copy to install

BTW - i read somewhere that there is indeed a problem with TomTom and WM6. For some reason the automatic turn on on bluetooth (the 2 .dll files in windows directory) sometime relate to the problems dicussed here.
I allways have TomTom on my SD without installing it. So i never uses the automatic bluetooth turnon.
Perhaps it could solve the problem. I´m just using "CicleBT" to turn on bluetooth manually from shortcut or hardwarebutton.
Good luck

Hmn. Do you mean just the maps or the installation of app is also on the storage card?. When i install it it automatically installs in the main memory.
That was a good idea about running it off the sd card. What i did was i just moved all the tomtom dll's via memaid to the storage card and it did the trick. It still turns on the bt automatically but i am able to recieve and answer calls without any issues.
Now if i just copy the install of tomtom from main storage to sd card and uninstall tomtom i would still be able to click on .exe on the sd card and it would run with no issues ?
i'm a new owner of a t-mobile wing and i was just readin about the tomtom can someone please tell me where can i get a copy of the tomtom so i can download it to me phone
Shotta,
TomTom is paid software, you have to buy it.
You might have to order it at their online store at www.tomtom.com , since I can't seem to find ANY PDA software at any of the brick&mortar stores around here. BeastBuy, OfficeDepot, CircusCity, none of them carry it.
But…TomTom 6 works on my Wing. Strangely, on my Dell x30 with 2003SE, opening a memory-intensive program like TomTom will automatically kick out other programs to free memory for itself. On the Wing with WM6, I have to shut them out manually.
hi kar98
i want to buy the P4350 as well.... and i want to use tomtom 6 as well!!! which version do i have to install on this devise?????
and are there ANY lags when you use tomtom???? which version do u have? WM5 oder WM6, i heard WM6 is much fastern then WM5, is that right?
TomTom Navigator 6 on TyTN is great!
I can confirm it is very good on both Windows Mobile 5 and 6.
I suppose it depends on your processor though, TyTN has a 400MHz Samsung CPU, P4350 might be 200MHz TI Omap CPU, you'll have to check.

Even though the CPU only has a speed of 201 Mhz, after some tweaking, like leaving only iLock, poutlook, Slide, and WiFiInit in the startup folder, cleaning up the Today screen, moving Lori's voice -the only one on the system- to the storage card), following Paul's advisory to edit the size of the pagepool to 6 MB, uninstalling the included, removable garbage, the Wing performs satisfactory on all accounts, including TomTom Navigator. Although I haven't tried it much beyond a pair of 25 mile runs between this town and the next city. Also, I have only gas stations and red light cameras enabled, as far as POIs are concerned. And lastly, I'm using the USA&Canada map from late last year (650) with most current POI.dat from a few weeks ago (North America, 675, 1.4GB version).
Now if somebody could come up with a ROM that omits the included Acrobat Reader for instance, and inserts TomTom instead, that would be nice

About TomTom. Note RAM usage:
Free memory after soft reset:
Bluetooth activates automatically after starting TomTom, and de-activates after exiting. You can browse through your POIs and call numbers from that directory by clicking on the phone icon, too. Very nice (my previous device was a Axim x30, no phone there). You still have to kill other, especially memory-intensive programs manually first, or TomTom refuses to start up.
so without those tweakings that you have meantioned.... tomtom6 is not able to start or is not working properly????
OMG so i dont think i will buy the Herald... need something with 128 Ram
After some more dicking around with it, free program memory is now at 22 MB (14.2MB with TomTom running). Now I don't even have to close out other programs anymore. Everything's in the green
Without aforemention mods, TT6 is sluggish and even shows gray squares where some of the program icons within TT should be. If the program starts up at all rather than quitting with a memory violation error.
i am able to run tomtom6 on my wing without any issues...but everytime i restart my wing, tomtom also starts up automatically..i understand it might be due to the program being in the startup program list. I checked in the windows/startup folder and did not find tomtom program in it...so is there a place in registry where i can change it???
thanks for the help
I had 6.0 installed and working, and something happened to my SD card (a corruption somehow) and now it can't find any of the maps (TomTom runs, and says 'no maps installed').
I've been trying to find a way to run the config app again - am I better of just re-installing the application, or is there some way to get the maps recognized by the app?

I know this program and it is really nice. A wireless webcam for ......
..... ok not freee but not such expensive. and it works fine after you have reached to set it up.
But great walkthrough...
gThx
yeah, I have tried this program ... and its kind of pointless ...
unless you have a hot girl taking a shower or changing at your apartment and you leave it in there in a corner..... besides that, its kind of pointless! hahahah
ahh but if you launch a vpn connection, then you can follow your phone anywhere.. e.g you let your girl borrow you phone or if you left it somewhere, you can "see" where you left it.
Yeah, it'll probably be at the bottom of her purse while she's getting it from some dude. \
But if you wanted to spy on someone, you should check out flexspy or something like that.
haha i dont know about all that spying but i used it because i dont have a Webcam for Windows Vista HAHAH
when you have an exgirlfriend like mine ... you need such as this ... including but not limited to GPS ankle bracelets, a contact in the CIA, FBI, NSA or any of these so you can track her with satellite..... etc...

I've asked them if they want a Webcam and all said yes.. so i installed a program on their pc wich is much like this one but called different..
dont know what's the name anymore..
And since then they are useing their phones
they are pleased with it really.. and i too dont have a webcam but i do have a Herald and im gonna use this program instead of my own pre-made program.
but oh well.. im not that much on MSN tho.. so....
But anyway.. Nice Program.. Keep up the good work..
Oh and BTW duprade.. i kinda regonize you from something.. did you were on the BBC one time..?

HTC Polaris
Hi there,
Thank you for this software. I just tried it on to my Polaris, and my screen stays black, whatever I tried or change in the panel menu...
Seems it doesn't work onto Polaris ? Or I maybe missed something ? (A bit difficult to fix it during the very short trial period)
How does it work with Vista?
Vista doesn't support activesync anymore (built in). On my Herald I have the program running and on my laptop the program is searching for a connection. My Herald is connected through USB.
Can anybody help me with this? Are there some preferences yet to choose?
No go on Polaris
My Polaris does not show anything either, it does not initiate any of the sources. Any ideas? Thank you.
Hello there! quick question here:
I have 2 ppc here (my old wizard and a hermes). I know that there is programs that makes your ppc turn into a webcam, but in case I want to go further in the spy (or whatever) thing... and want to broadcast the images made from the cam of one ppc (for exemple the wizard) into the other (the hermes). Is there such "webcam viewer" for ppc?
I used something similar to this at one point, maybe this exact thing. Its really nice and useful =]
video calling
Does anyone know how to use this program or any other one to enable video calling on PPC cell phones like on my Sprint HTC Mogul?
I put the trial version of this program on my Sprint HTC Mogul and it work well for webcam. The program also says it can turn phone into a microphone too. But I can't get any sound to transfer to the computer. I checked out all the setting in my computer and on my phone. The webcam program does not have any settings for sound other than checking the sound option under: Menu-->Source. Does anyone know what to do here to get my Mogul to send sound to my computer using this program? Thanks.
Hey all, I thought of buying this:

I have the HTC wizard so the touch screen would be perfect for a touch pad and the keyboard for, well a keyboard. It could work over activesync connected via bluetooth and it would be awesome overall! Maybe media keys on the touch screen as well?
Has anyone done such a thing? If not, it would be amazing if someone did .
Cheers, Kyle.

Wow, that would be awesome! I too have been looking at wireless keyboards and mouses since I have my computer hooked up to my TV. What a great idea to be able to use our phones to do that! Now, if only someone could make it happen.
BTW...I have never seen that logitech keyboard. I may look in to that.
yeah i looked around for software like that a while back and i remember coming across something. I'm pretty sure there is software like that for the iPhone, and something similar for the ppc. Don't remember what it was but what i do remember is it didn't work.
I believe there was a programs that turnes your PDA into a touch Pad, however it wasn't free...but I can't remember the name right now..
as for the wireless KB, there was another application that did the opposite, it took use of the PC keyboard, so you can type on your PDA while ActiveSync in on... I can't remember the name either , so there should be an app that will do it the other way around.
maybe someone else will help you more on this...
cheers

Most programs available seem to go in the opposite direction... controlling your PPC with your desktop keyboard / mouse.
But a search using Google does yield a few programs that have functionality you're looking for. Some are free, some are not. A couple probably do more than what you're looking for, similar to the Remote Desktop Connection already available in many ROM's. Here are a few you can look into.
Xronix Total Input
Salling Clicker
Remote Commander
PocketDrive
PPC Tablet Remote Control Suite
Enjoy!
Maybe this is what you are looking for. Its $16, but then again thats pretty cheap and how much is your time worth looking for a free replacement.

If only this worked with Windows Mobile 6.1 .
i got it to work on my kaiser.... and vista ultimate...
its okay, i do not like the button layouts for the remote...
not intuitive enough for me, and it looks like crap.
I might try and remap the buttons and make a new theme for it someday.
I like the functionality but really despise the implementation. Also i could not get the hard keyboard to actually work correctly (on screen of the VMC)
I agree. It definitely looks like crap. This could really be useful though for certain jobsites that I am required to bring a mouse and keyboard. It would really cut down on the bulk.
VNC is free...

I tried Total Input years ago and I remember it being pretty good.
Just a thought. If you main purpose is Home Theater PC (i.e. using that computer for playing video files) then you could consider the gyration remote. It's on clearance at Circuitcity right now for $36+tax.
Hello. I've searched for my problem, but could not find anything.
I recieved my HD2 today, and when I connected to my PC (USB), Windows installed its Mobile Device Center.
But then nothing. WMDC says Not Connected when I plug the phone in and select ActiveSync.
Using Win7 32bit 7100.
What did you select on your device to connect as? ActiveSync, USB Drive?
ActiveSync. When I select the USB Drive option, the mediacard shows up on the computer as it should.
I'm having the same problem. I'm using Windows 7 64 bit, and it seems my HD2 is not a recogizable device. Thus it never gets connected in Windows Mobile Device Center. In Control Panel->Devices it is shown as "Generic RNDIS".
I'm guessing I need to find the correct drivers, but have been unsuccessful so far :-(
I also use Windows 7 x64 on a few machines and it works OK for me (even in Linux too). You might have a firewall or Anti-virus that is blocking the virtual port used in the connection. The usual culprits are Symantec/Norton and someone mentioned AVG recently.
Temporary disable your firewall/Anti-virus and plug in your phone see if it works then. If it does then you know what was causing the problem
I don't run any firewall or antivirus.
I also checked around, and it seems that it installs itself as Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter.
I also noticed that WinMo6.5 isnt listed on the supported OS list for WMDC.
Go to the USB to PC tab in the connections page, off the all settings options,
then disable ebnable faster data synchronisation,
that normally works.

Make sure you do a windows update for Windows 7. Had the same until I ran windows update.
I'm up to date.
I can connect my HD2 in windows 7, but when i download and run the SMS hotfix it gives me 'this is not a valid win32 application'

For me helped to install mobile device center again. I had same problem at first.
I've done that.
Here's what Event Viewer is telling me:
Windows Mobile-based USB device is plugged in but is unable to make a network connection to the desktop.
Also, when i check the new Network connection when using the Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter, I see "no network/internet access".
I had the same issue after a few weeks of using the phone... There were a couple of devices in device managed under network adapters I believe which I deleted. I then plugged the phone in again and selected active sync and all was fine again once the devices had re installed. Sorry Im not with my pc at the moment so not sure what they were called.. Think it was to do with the phone passing an internet connection to the phone etc etc...

It's not meant to run from your PC. Copy it onto your phone and run it from there.

Thx! It worked for me!
i was having the same problem (though with vista) until i went to the activesync app on the phone (start menu -> extra) then it started working as expected (showing hd2 in 'my computer' & giving acces to both sd and phone mem)
I can now happily report that a format of the PC fixed the problem.
This is a really annoying problem - it's hit me on 2 separate machines (laptop and desktop) - running Windows 7 64bit and 32 bit. Both machines worked fine on Vista before they were upgraded to Windows 7.
For some more information on possible "fixes" - see http://www.windowsphoneexpert.com/Connection/forums/t/3643.aspx and http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en/windowsmobileactivesync/thread/3139b9ba-1038-4fce-858b-0f305df68a5a plus a whole lot of other posts on the microsoft forums.
Looks like a frequent problem which can be either dead easy or impossible to fix. In my case, it was impossible as the drivers failed to load, irrespective of the USB-to-PC status, whether WMDC was re-installed, and even which HTC device I used - TYTN (WM5), Polaris(WM6.1) and now Leo(WM6.5). Tried the hard reset (while doing Leo Rom upgrades ) and manual update of drivers. All for nada...
I don't know if I can face formatting my PCs - that seems excessive and is not guaranteed to solve the problem anyway judging from the 2 machines I've got here.
