Install CABs from Extended ROM

Hi all,
I've upgraded to W2K5 on my XDA2. (respect to Buzz and all for their fantastic effort in making this possible) The Extended Rom is now unlocked/un-hidden
I'm confused about 1 thing. I've still got the orignal O2 extended ROM contents but after installing and hard resetting, I dont see the 'Customising' message and none of the CABs get installed.
This isnt a huge problem as I dont want most of them anyway but if I try to install them individually, the one I'm installing gives a message about removing the previously installed Customization Tools.
1. is the only way to install a few of these CABs to cook my own extended ROM?
2. Why would the original O2 extended ROM contents not even attempt to install after upgrading to W2K5/hard reset?
3. Is there a way to install individual CABs from the O2 extended ROM without the previously installed one being removed?
Many thanks in advance for any advice.
you can install whatever you like but
keep in mind that some programs there will not work in BUZZmobile 2005
search the ftp for a 2577 zip files there is the best colection made for BUZZmobile by another god thats really good ;-)

Ok Total commander gives you access to the extended rom using the method just posted above.
But if you want to actually have the extended rom showing all time, then you need this...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=33680&highlight=extended+rom
The extended rom unlocker will give the actual extended rom as space deginated extended_rom2 and its about 9.85mb size or something with between about 350kb and 2.5mb of .cab files in it depending on whether its a Qtek (Which has the least amount of files), I-mate, o2 or T-Mobile, these last two probably (along with Orange) will have the most 'junk in them.
Once you have ran the exteneded rom unlocker and soft reset your device it will be accesible through file explorer you won't need TC.
You can then go in and delete (be careful to make sure what everything does first) its your own responsibility, and remove what you don't need.
For example on the I-mate Extended Rom you cane remove Backgammon, Skype and the anti virus prog. There wasn't much on the Qtek Rom I just put on mine just clearvue and soemthing else inconsequential, there was no skype or antivirus, but I believe some Qtek roms might have this.
T-Mobile is abother story, there is a shedload of crap in the extended rom, ranging from a today screen toolbar to small progs, there is list knocking about of what each file does. When I changed from T-Mob to I-mate and then Qtek I just transferred the T-Mobile GPRS settings and the GPRS disconnect button .cab and put them in the exteneded Rom myself and let it run.
Also on I-mate Rom there are carrier settings that you can delete which won't apply to you, basically lots fo countries phone settings, like o2 UK, T-Mobile Spain etc etc, depending on where you are in the world.
You can't delete the I-mate .tsk todayscreens as far as I know, they are not in the ExtRom. The Qtek ExtROm doesn't have the extra .tsk's just default and the Guava Bubbles one.
If anyone wants the T-Mobile GPRS .cab and GPRS disconnect button .cab I can send it through msn or email.
that doesn't work either. I treid with the unlocker and deleted the files with TC. If i check the content no files are there, but when i try to copy other files to the ext. Rom it says that the volume is write protected. I softreseted several times also.
Any hint on that ? How have all the others deleted the files in extended rom ?

Might not work for you but it worked for me and a load of others. Once the extended rom is visible you can delete files easily, you don't need TC like I said. Its easier to put additional cabs into my documents sync them across and just run them.
Yeah, that's a pitty.... I have the Vodafone VPA Compact II, which is the Wizard 100 afaik.
Someone around here has the same model and succeeded in removing the cabs from the extended rom ?

How to restore extended ROM backed up with aWizard?

I used aWizard to backup the ROM of my Wizard Model 100 (Vodafone VPA compact II). After playing around with another ROM, I now want to go back to the original Vodafone ROM. Using aWizard again, I was able to restore the main ROM into the device, but it seems like it did not restore the extended ROM. The main ROM is working normally, but the Vodafone customizations didn't start after hard reset. I unlocked the extended ROM and can now see that it contains no files. Unfortunately, it is also write protected, so I cannot copy the extended ROM files manually.
How can I get the extended ROM files back into the device? I know that I could simply copy the files somewhere else and run it manually, but I'd like to restore the original state.
From my research, it seems to be a specific problem about the VPA compact II that even if you can unlock (i.e. "make visible") the extended ROM, it will still remain write protected...
Just think.
Maybe you should firstly refresh your rom with an older version like 1.5.x.x or sth. that would make the ext-rom visable & rewritable. than after you copy all that .cab files as you need, use aWizard to just upload the newer rom (at this case should be 2.17.x.x).
Never try this, if succeed pls let me know...
yeah this works this is what i have done to change the splash screen several times...on several units as well.....

Unhide & Unlock Ext_ROM

It seems adap is right. It turns out the Ext_ROM is'nt accessable after one more softreset, strange but true. Shame on me!
So be warned!!
Hello!
Been fiddling around with a Prophet today and found this tutorial to unhide and unlock the Ext_Rom of the Prophet. So I wonder if this will work on our beloved device too.
Well...what can I say...IT WORKED!!!
Ext_Rom is now visible under the name given, it's 8 Mb of size and full read/write accessable.
Just follow the the steps HERE.
[EDIT]
To safe you from trouble the changes don't work...keep in mind to turn off (standby) the PDA for a few seconds (30 s will do) before softreset.
[/EDIT]
Credits go to the guys from the Prophet section of this forum.

It would certainly be great if we are able to unhide and unlock the extended rom.
Since we have had problems in the past with theories of unlocking the extended rom that turned out to unhide the rom for a short while only to be hidden after a soft reset and with irreversible problems...can anyone say for sure that it works and stays ok after a soft reset?
I tried it and at least on my device it did not work. It revealed the Extended Storage card but it was not possible to view contents or to copy contents onto the extended rom. I should note, that I had tried earlier to unlock/unhide with a cab file so I may have messed up my extended storage.
If any one succeeds please let us know.
its all done already:

Hello Thomdac,
I have followed above procedure and am able to see contents but they are not editable and I cannot copy cabs to the external rom. Actually the behavior is somewhat quirky...I have managed to copy some of the files from external rom to another place but I cannot remove any cabs/files from the external rom or copy new files to the external rom. In short it seems possible to unhide the external rom but not to unlock it. Please let me know if this is your experience.
Thanks,
@apap
same here. very strange thing
Hello!
With the above procedure I was able to rename files in Ext_ROM + copy a file from \My Document to \Ext_ROM.
But after a further softreset the Ext_ROM was gone.
Will try the methode to recover the Ext_ROM soon.
