loose stylus silo, any fix? - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

the stylus silo doesn't hold the stylus well after sometime
any fix? how to?
or what you do with your XDA II to hold the stylus in place?

I once read that if you wrap celotape round the bottom half of the black section this helps it stay in, and its clear.
The ammount of time you need to wrap it around depends on how loose it is.
Hope this helps

loose silo
worked for me bro, try it.

Stylus pencil is Loose and comes out easily

I use the k-jam alot. and after taking the pencil out and back in again it has got so loose now that it usually drops out. any one else hade same problem and how did you resolve it?
I had same problem with my BA. I'm not sure the wizard has same retention tab, but if it does, then this works.
-Back up your data.
-Remove the cover you will find a small tab in the stylus channel intended to engage the notch cut into the stylus. Gently push the tab back into the stylus channel so that it will engage the stylus notch once again. Be careful if you push it too far it will break.
-Slide the stylus into the channel to verify that the tab again engages the stylus notch.
-Remove the stylus again.
-Apply a small dab silicone sealant (available at any hardware store) behind the stylus retention tab. This is the "V" shaped area between the tab and the case. Be sure to fill this entire area. When the silicone has cured it will become a spring with much better position memory then the original plastic tab had on its own.
-Allow 24 hours for the silicone to cure before inserting the stylus into the channel.
I believe this is more then a repair, it is an upgrade.
Good Luck,

Thanks for the tips.
I was just thinking of what to do when i came acroos some bluetac .
I put some blutac in the hole were the stylus goes and pushed the pen in. and it was a miracle !!! The stylus stayes in with a good hold and it comes out clean with no bluetac on it.
whe the bluetac trys to come out it has no room coz the stylus filles the space so it stays in the edges and grips the stulus pen and keeps it from getting loose. .
problem solved !!

Yes it does.
Easy and simple way of not opening or messing about with k-jam to void warranty.
I mean. you will not viod waranty this way, but will if you open the k-jam
one time around the stylus with some tape works great to.
But what happen if the blutac starts to ware off?

Then I'll pop the case  , extract the bluetac and do the silicone mod.
I'd be surprised if it does wear off though. It's superb stuff that's saved me a few quid in the past when in rented accomodation - bluetac and tippex to create the illusion of undamaged walls
Can you please give me a hint what "bluetac" is or means ?
I have dismantled mine, and I can see why this is breaking - see my post regarding the sylus silo.
when the stylus is getting loose, when you are pushing it in do you "feel" it going further forward than it did before?
It is because the plastic tab is not strong enough to resist the pen, and you are now pushing it further forward than you did before.
This is what causes the stress on the plastic, and then the crack. This black plastic part is molded to the entire back of the phone.
I have fixed this by wedging some folded paper behind the black plastic clip, and it is back to normal. I was lucky - I had not stressed mine enough that the plastic had cracked.
I have taken some photos of how to get the back off, I will post them when I return from my business travel.

Ignoring my [email protected] spelling (should be "Blutac"), it's this stuff: http://www.paperstone.co.uk/BrowseProductDisplay.aspx?ProductId=17307&CategoryId=579-580-594
I'd be interested in seeing the photos on how to dismantle.

I have now started collapsing the stylus before inserting it into the hole so it doesn't push against the end and only goes as far as the moulded plastic bit at the top.
just wrap a piece of tape around the stylus and it fits like a glove again.

This is only a temp fix, did that and after a week or two back to the stylus dropping out. I am waiting for the pics on how to get the back off and do a more permanent solution, you would think Imate would have caught this in their product testing phase before going to production.

Personally I think on the bottom of the phone is daft in the first place... or is this just me ?
Terran
the pics are in the upload folder, called wizardpics.zip - the ftp upload attachment does not seem to be working?
to remove the top half I used a flat knife. It is quite resistant. You can see where the tabs are in the pic.
To remove the back completely, you need to remove the void sticker, and under there is a screw. there is also one opposite.
You will also need to remove the 2 screws at the bottom, one in the stylus channel, and the other on the opposite side.
then use a plastic splitting tool if you have one, or a credit card to work round the case.
you can see in the pics where this comes off.
You then want to re-enforce behind the stylus notch. I used a piece of folded card.

Wizard loosing stylus - total solution ;-)

Sorry, only in czech language yet, because I have no time to translate it yet. Maybe pictures will helps you understandt it little bit.
http://www.ce4you.cz/articles/detail.asp?a=263
I couldn't understand what's the point. Can you explain shortly what's the idea?
The Proble;
You have a loose fittign stylus that over time has gotten to the point of falling out on its own.
The goal:
Stop loosing styli.
Hope that helps; Lew
The reason the stylus falls out is that the plastic retainer cracks.
The pictures show how using a slice of an eraser jammed into the gap will help retention.
OK, that much I get, but where does the little metal spring part come from and what does it do (or is it a bit that's already there)?

It lookes like the metal piece is part of the housing. He may be trying to point out how it goes back in place. Things like that have a tendancy to "spring" out of position as you open up a housing w/out giving you a chance to see where they go back to. That is if you can even find them once they hit the floor. Lots of little pieces that if lost can really ruin your day.
I'm a little worried about the VOID warranty sticker covering one of the internal screws. Also, looks like the guy dinged up his housing trying to pry it open.
It is the best fix I've seen so far for the problem. If you can get that VOID sticker pealed back and replaced w/out somebody being able to notice, you should be able to keep your warranty intact should you ever need it.
Ingenuis solution.
Although I dont have this problem (yet) I am going to add this little link to here. It is where you can get the PDF manual (disassembly and reassembly), I think it is way easier to follow then the web tutorial, you can just look back and forth to fix the styli thing.

xda's stylus

hi,
this question might not even have anything to do development. i have been using my exec for a year now, and the problem is that the stylus has become quite loose and doesnt stay in the phone securly, have others had similar problems and if yes what's their solution?
thanks
Same problem, but no solution, im sorry
The inner plastik thingy which holds the stylus is somehow.. overused or rubbed off?
I dont think that there is a solution :/
I had the same problem with my old xda exec.
Stuck sellotape around stylus and that did the trick for me.
Simple but effective. Needed to replace sellotape once a month.
I had the same problem. First I have use scotch tape around the stylus which looks ugly therefore I start use few drops of Super glue and making little swell on the stylus
A little lump of blue tac pushed into the socket which holds the stylus in place when I put it in.

Believe me when I say that the best alround solutution is to by a replacement stylus like this one http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/8393.htm
I lost my first stylus about six months ago because it was too loose, there is no way this one will fly out. It fits nice and snug.

I second this! These stylii fit very securely and are MUCH better than the originals that come with the device. I've had 2 because I accidentally dropped one right on the tip (dropped from my hand, it didn't slip out of the Universal) and both were snug.
bend stylus
i tried to paint my last stylus with nail enamel (color metalic gray), didn't work ...so i decided to bend it a little
it worked for me..
tricky question .. how much bend it ?
well.. i didn't clean enamel from stylus, (im lazy...) while i was trying to bend enamel crack ....that was my scale
The little clip which holds the stylus in on mine broke off completely. I opened the case up and glue the clip back in while padding it out with paper at the same time. Holds the stylus rock solid now, much better than it ever did before.

Help Stylus Stuck

I'm hoping someone might have a helpful suggestion other than "take it apart." I've been using a stylus / pen that I got off ebay. The ball point pen is hidden under a cap at the opposite end of where the stylus point is.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=190199301645&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=009
It works great except that the cap came off while the stylus was inside my advantage --- and now, I can't get the stylus out. It's stuck, and there's no way to reach in and get it.
Any thoughts??
Thanks
I think you could put some glue (very little) inside the cap and then put it (the cap) into the HTC stylus hole. After a time take it out and then try to remove the glue (dissolving or smthg like that). Peter.
Thanks, I'll try that!

Just be careful not to touch the sides while sliding the pen in, or it will get very messy in there and harsh when the glue dries and come time to put a new stylus in. Thanks for the heads up because I was going to purchase a pack of 3 in 1 pens. I won't now due to the fact that it can come apart.

WOW!! IT WORKED!!!! THANKS!
Of course, do what you think is best, but I'm going to keep using it. I think the fault was mine, not the pen's.
THANKS AGAIN!
Does that stylus actually fit completley into your advantage? I have the exact same 3 pack sitting at home, ordered off ebay, and its just not capable of fitting into the slide on the advantage. Not to mention how shoddy the quality appeared to be with regards to how the 3 pieces stick together. I mean its obvious when you mix metal with plastic threads...things are gonna work loose very quickly. Anyway, I just ordered a 3 pack of 3in1 stylus from expansys that they are advertising as an exact fit, made specifically for the advantage, as well as a 3 pack of oem stylus just to make sure heh.

Snapped stylus stuck in phone

Anyone got any tips for getting a stylus in which the top part has snapped off of out of the magnetic stylus holder on the phone?
I bought some spare ones as I always lose them but upon using these spares I found they all suffer from the same problem, the plastic top and bottoms snap off very easily.
So now I have no stylus, but part of a stlyus stuck inside my phone.
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks
If you remove the battery cover you will see 2 sections where you can see the stylus. You use some long thin object and try to wedge it out.
Not on my phone there isn't.
I can see it in 1 place about half way up but the battery doesn't need to be off for that.
I can't think of anyway to get anything that is going to get any grip on it to get it out...
Take the battery cover off, you'll be able to see the stylus in its sheath. Use a bit of sticky tape to grab the stylus and slide it up and out. Hope this helps.
Put some super glue and put the stylus back.
I am very curious.

Yes that is right.
Not too much glue if you want to try.
