Doesn't seem like I can install a *.cab file to storage card, when I open it, it will install automatically into main memory\program files
Anyone know how to do this?
Thanks
Use Cabinst to manage your CAB installations.
gr8, cheers mate
regestry change
whit a simple regestry change , it will ask you where to install it: folder,drive....
even if you do an istallation from active sync
And what is this simple registry change ?
Do tell .... don't keep it a secret
what is this change?
ok here it is:
Edit the regestry on the PPC:
\HKLM\SOFTWARE\Apps\Microsoft Aplication Installer\
set fAskDest to "1"
if you like
Create the "Pogram Files" folder on the SD card on the root folder,
make sure that you have the ignore_my_docs file in the root driveof the SD card.
I install most of my program on the SD card.
hi alexk,
i m using mini O2. how do go to the registry by the way?
and all the programs can run from the SD card?
Pls advise..
thanks..
Cheers
 Chivas
I use Resco Explorer to edit my registry,
it includes the Resco Registry Editor ^^
alexk > Thanks for this tweak
chivas > If you want a freeware use this one PHM Registry Editor
Most programs can be run from SD card except Today Plugins
What is the benefit of running CAB's from our SD card? In otherwords, I don't have the foggiest clue what happens to a CAB once you run it apart from it installing the program etc.
A cab file is a way to install a progam.
So you can install this program wherever you want.
The benefit to install it on a SD Card is to liberate some RAM
Thanks for that
Why is this forum sooooooo sloooooow

Hi Alex, thanks for the tweak. But what do you mean by those meantioned above ? Are you saying that we can create a "Program Files" folder in SD card and install our program into it? What do you mean by root folder? Do I need to create a note pad file named as ignore_my_docs?

Calvin,
Root folder refers to the highest folder of the drive, the one where all the sub-folders reside... ie on your PC C:\
Be very carefull editing the registry, not recomended for a novice as one wrong move can leave you with a lot of trouble
Thanks for the info. I think there's nothing to do with registry in these tweak rite? For what I know from others forumer, the Ignore_my_documents file is inside the main memory. It serves the purpose whereby the ppc will ignore the "My Documents" inside the Sd card (if you created one) and only use the "My Documents" inside the main memory.
Same said they have deleted the Ignore_my_documents file in the main memory and therefore they can saved their files (themes and etc) into "My Documents" inside the Sd card in order to save some RAM.
My question is, do we need to create Ignore_my_documents file into Sd card if we are going to do so?

of cause, you need Pocket Mechanic. what do you need it for?
Before you change it,remember:YOU SHORTCUTs MAYBE WON'T WORK!
Use a Reg Editor(like Resco Registry etc.) to find this key:
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\SDMemory\Folder
Change the default value to the name you want.
Soft-reset your PPC
Enjoy it!
thx... i made it

Storage Card
,but now i have same like
"bereitgestellte datentrager" in German, not a Storage Card ?
Im having same kind of problems...
Anyhow: The value in registery shows "Storage Card" but when using file explorer, the real name of the inbuilt Diamond storage, is "Storage Card2". And of course I can't rename it directly because it's in use. Must be a simple solution for this but can't figure this out. Any easy way to correct the name?
Solved!
It had something to do with the new ROM edition I was using and the option to store attachments on a storage card. I uncheck the box "When available, use this storage card to store attachments", deleted the old "fake" storage card folders and did a soft reset --> problem solved huraah!
On the Wizard when you install an app by putting .cab file on the storage card or wherever it asks you where to put it. For instance before I sold my Wizard I put a .cab on the storage card and ran it from the phone and installed it on the storage card.
Just gone back to a Magician temporarily and forgot that if you put a .cab on the mem card and want to install it to the storage card, you can't and it installs it on the phone memory, which is small compared to a Wizard.
The only way I can see to be able to install files to storage card is if they are .exe and you either install them from PC and chose location or suchlike. No choice for .Cab files or is there ?
WinCE cab manager anyone ??
there's a little software called cabinstl_en.exe that allows you to select where to install the cab file.

Thanks very much, works a treat.
your welcome. glad that it works for you too.
Is there any way or registry hack, to specify an alternate folder where WM will take the Themes (.tsk files)?
I know WM by default searches the '\Windows' and '\My Documents' folders, as well as their subfolders.
However I'd like to store my Themes in a folder located at the Storage Card, in order to save PDA memory space.
Doesn't it already do that? I've got several themes sat on my storage card and they show up when I go into Today properties. However, I believe they do need to be on the ROOT of the card, not in a folder.
Cheers
Ant
Thanks, I'll check it.
However my intention was excatly to put them into a dedicated subfolder on the Storage Card.
And that still needs a solution, if I do not want to use some 3rd party Themes Manager.
Correct! It works, if .tsk files get copied to Storage Card root.
However not really what I'm looking for :?
Thanks! Something new learnt anyway
I've read the Wiki and still can't find it. How do I install themes on my Wizard?
copy the .tsk files into your windows directory.
you mean .tsk?
Copy them to /my documents, and go to /start menu/settings/today, then choose your theme.
I kept getting a message about disc being write protected. Remove protection or use another disc. Any idea what that means? Also do I save them to the phone or to memory card?

Anybody got anything on this?
I said save it to \windows which obviously is on your phone not on the mem card. As for that "write protected" stuff i don't know what to think of it man.
open "my computer", double click on "my mobile device", navigate to windows, copy/paste your themes to windows directory and they will appear in the today theme menu. if you still don't undersatnd then i give up./
You can copy the theme files also to SD card either directly in the main SD card folder or in a folder which does not go deeper than 1 level (meaning: Storage card\Themes\ ) This keeps your precious internal memory free for other things!
I UNDERSTAND what you said and that is what I did. That message is what I got when I did that. I tried it on the phone and the card. Thanks anyway though. Themes are overrated anyway I'm not stopping till I brick this thing!!!!!!
If you copy them on to your SD card, don't put them in any file on there. Put them straight on to "\storage card". The question I have is are you getting the write protected error on your phone or on your computer and if you're getting that error on your computer end can you copy any other files over to your storage card? I was thinking that maybe you accidentally write protected your storage card.

I was getting it on the computer, but for some reason everything's cool with it now. I dunno. Thanks guys.
Hey Guys,
I have downloaded and installed some programs to my HD2's internal memory by mistake (I was a newbie). Now, it is full of programs and i am running out of memory.
I want to move all of the program files to storage card. I tried cut and paste. However, this time, wm gives error saying it cannot find the path for the program.
Is there a way which allows me to move files directly to the storage card instead of removing and reinstalling?
Thanks
a couple of programs are only installed in a subdirectory and linked from Startmenu to this folder.
No problem to move this subdirectory to the storage card and change the link in the startmenu. (using resco explorer, for example)
but if a program is using the windows-mobile-registry (or an own INI-File) you have to change all the items from this program - it's almost impossible ...
the best way - if you don't know how voluminous the program is - to deinstall the program and reinstall the program at storage card.
Thanks, I could not think also copying shortcut to startmenu folder. My problem will be solved, most probably, at that time.
Edit: I installed resco explorer, but I could not find how to specify shortcut while in start menu? Can you please help?
