O2 XDA II view change from portrait to landscape - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

champs,
I have activated the GPRS and I can browse the Internet. how to change the view from portrait to landscape for Internet browsing?
and since the GPRS activation i.e. since last 5 days my XDA hard reseted twice after charging on the cradle. does this happen due to overcharging or temperature due to overcharge. This never happened before.
please help
cheers

You might put the recharge/reset problem in a new thread.
For good browsing, try a product called ThunderHawk. It costs money, though.

there is a thread in the forum about modding 2003 to do screen flip on the fly
or there are programs which let you do it but they require a softreset
and there is 2003SE which also does it on the fly

You can map one of your keys to rotate the screen. I use the "T-Zones" button on mine (3rd from the left on the slide out keyboard).
EDIT - SORRY I DIDN'T REALISE THIS WASN'T A BLUE ANGEL THREAD

NEW QTEK S110 - The initial problems I have found

Hi I recently got a S110 since using it (very basic usage) I have encountered some problems can anyone help?
1.When I plug the mains charger into the S110 and it begins to charge the backlight does not work when I try to turn it on it does turn on as I can see the today screen very dimmly I then have (struggle) to go to the settings/backlight and tick and untick the check boxes there to bring the backlight on. I have to do this every time the charger is plugged in and I want the backlight on.
2. My Phone does not switch off even when I hold in the power button for 2 seconds as the manual says.
3. I am unable to start a new message or create a new contact from the today screen it makes the noise but the application does not open
4. When somebody phones me they hear it ringing in their ear for 20 rings and it only rings so that I may hear it for 8 rings
5. I am unable to use transcriber when writing text messages I write on the screen it beeps as though it has been recognised but does not write the printed text to the screen.
Please can anyone help
Problems Q110
Just received mine this am, generally happy with it although I will look at the problems you listed. I have discovered that it can't be turned off as well as you!
Will post more when I have had a chance to experiment.

@Duncan.M
the 2 second power hold to turn off the phone is an error in the manual.
holding the power button actually switchs the backlight off/on. which could help with your backlight issue.
can you actually use contacts and messaging at all? can you use the HW buttons to open either function? from your problems it sounds abit like not all the default software was installed the first time you turned your pda on.. well except for the ringling issue, i havent heard of that problem before.
SpeedN
@SppedN
My first question would then be. If I want to how do I switch my phone off if it is not holding the top right hw button for two seconds?
In response to your questions after taking two minutes to rtfm a soft reset fixed my inability to create a new txt message or new contact from the today screen & the issue with the backlight not working whilst connected to mains power
HOWEVER THE SOFT RESET HAS NOT FIXED.....
Problem 4 & Problem 5. (please see original thread subject)
@HeronLen OR Anyone else who has the CD Ver.A 06.2005
I would like to try a hard reset to see if that fixes the problems that still exist with my S110 except MY CD player on my PC will not read the CD that came with the phone would you be able to make a copy of your CD and if you have broadband upload it to an FTP/WEB SITE for me or if not even post a copy to me.
Heelo Duncan! I don't understand problem 4.
Do you mean, that when you make a phone call, your device rings x times, but the person you call's device actually rings y times?
I'd try a Hard reset to fix problem 4... it could be telco related delay possibly i guess. you dont actually need to have your pda attached to your pc to perform a hard reset. all the default software for you pda is stored on your pda in the extended rom. so a hardreset wipes the memory and begins a clean install.
for problem 5 can draw in notes with the transcriber? eg even simple straight lines? if transciber doesnt recognise your handwriting it can take a long time or even not display your writing.
oh and to turn the phone off you tap the reception icon in the middle of the start bar and turn on flight mode.

@helterskelter
Hi no I mean the other way around. When somebody calls me the phone rings in their ear 20 times yet it is only audible to me for 8 rings, which means that a) I have to have voicemail turned off otherwise voicemail picks it up after I have heard it ring only twice or b) with voicemail turned off I have to hope that the person calling is persistent (wait for a lot of rings in their ear) for me to get to the phone and pick it up.
I think it is a telco problem as speedn suggests that combined with slow software of the phone function of the S110.
Any suggestions are still welcome - How does everybody elses phone react?
@speedn
Problem 4. I know that I do not need to have my pda connected to my pc to do a hard reset though I would like to make a backup of my appointments etc onto pc before I do the hard reset this I cannot do without having a sd card (which I do not) or connection to my pc
Problem 5. I can draw in notes using transcriber but as theyre supposed to they stay in my handwriting (I think thats supposed to happen) The problem is that transcriber does not convert my handwriting into typed text. I have configured transcriber start>settings>input and it still doesnt work. I have also gone into word with transcriber as my preffered input method clicked on the letter shapes button selected the way that i write my letters and numbers and it still doesnt work, I write on the screen example, A (UP STROKE, DOWN STROKE, ACROSS STROKE) S110 BEEPS but the letter A is not typed on the screen it is stiil displayed in my handwriting. I really need to try a hard reset.
you can set your divert no answer to 30 seconds via your telco or in the settings>phone call forwarding section. and you can download activesync 3.8 from microsoft website. you can also backup appointments and contacts etc using permanent save in settings>system or xbackup to storage..just the appointments and contacts, a whole backu wont fit.
SpeedN
@speedn
Thanks for the flight mode answer.
We must be insync ourselves I was just reading about permanent save in the user manual. Ill try that
I ve also decided Im gonna go over to my mums house and put the cd in her laptop/share her cd drive and usinq wifi copy the entire contents of the cd onto my hard drive and try the install from hdd.
Ill let you know the results
Thanks for your help
Q110
I am not sure how I can contribute further, it would be good to get a fix for the off thing. I am not sure if many airlines will be happy with 'its off but not really' argument! Having interesting problems configuring gprs, why do MS make it so hard!

actually funny you should mention that, i was flying interstate here the other day, and i noticed a new comment from the flight stewards. it was about devices that use flight mode...please make sure flight mode is on.
flight mode switchs off all the gsm radio its the same as switching off your mobile phone. mind you there was also a major Imate Jam advertising campaign throughout the whole airport, 2 metre tall Jams everywhere.

I decided to see if I had any of the problems you listed. It turns out I had #5. I opened a note, selected Transcriber and tried to write something. It beeped like it recognized it but no text showed up. I then did the following:
1) reselected Transcriber as my input method
2) Selected Letter Shape Selector (didn't change anything here)
3) tapped OK
4) Selected each of the menu options at the bottom (just to see what they were)
5) After opening and closing each one, it started working
It seems there may be a software bug in this version of transcriber that causes it to not work unless a certain variable is initialized (by going to each, or one specific menu item first). FWIW, it worked form me.
@roblyman
no that didnt work for me.

Wizard Users more than 3-4 months????

I saw a thread about the a guy changed his wizard after using it for 5 months
What do u think mates? Is this a phone that just seems good when you firs got it?
My review about this phone is(cingular 8125)I've been using it for a month now.
keyboard got a lit' bit loose..
Poor battery life.(1day at most)
and it keeps dialing the last call while in my pocket in case i forgot the lock itlol(btw is there any autolock program for wizard)
Cheers
Hi Mate,
I have it just for 3 days now , but I wanted to ask you, how can I lock the keypad when I put it in my pocket to avoid dialing by itself by accident ?
i'm using the regular wi5 lock button at the today screen but there are some programs that allows you to choose a hard button and use it as a lock
but im looking for an autolock

Well, since its going into your pocket and you won't need the screen, can't you just hit the power button once to make it go into standby mode. Two benefits, you save battery, and lock the phone (only a press of the power key unlocks it again). In standby, you will still receive phone calls and get email (if its set to poll every XX mnutes, dunno about push email). The only downside to using the power button as a keylock is if you're using the wizard as mp3 player or something becuase standby causes the app to stop.
There's a cab out there that allows you to map the key lock to a button, I forgot what thread its in. I've got keylock mapped to the voice record button (hold). It works well.
Thanks Edyhan, I thought that this Lock is to lock the PPC and give it a password so that nobody can use it without knowing the Password well I am very new with this Pocket PCs, I am still figuring out the beauty.
KINetics, thanks for your reply, I know about the Power button, but it can b pushed - accidently - too then your PPC gonna do some jobs while it is in your Pocket, this is why Locking the buttons is the best solution.
But I really don't need any other apps just to lock the keys, as long as there is a Lock already in the WM5.
I wish the Wizard owners answer the main question of the Thread Starter

I got the tmo mda the day it was available in the US and I like it a lot more now than when I got it. I can't say my keyboard has come loose but it does seem to close with less than a snap now and then. Still, it seems to work fine, as does the phone, so I'm not concerned.
The custom 2.17 rom available on this site seems to work wonders for battery life. When using the stock tmo rom, battery life was a couple days. With the 2.17 rom, it takes 3 days to hit 50%. Your mileage may vary, of course, but it added a couple extra days for me. I've since gotten a battery that's about twice as large (needs a custom backplate for the phone) and it seems to last forever but I haven't measured the time.
Finally, I agree with the above. I hit the power button before putting it in my pocket and it's never once dialed on it's own. I also discovered the secret of hitting the power button after I call or answer the phone. That prevents random screen frenzy from your face as you talk.
I had a Blue Angel phone before the mda and I really liked that phone a lot. It had a larger screen and was much faster but...the mda had WM5 and the BA was 2003SE. Eventually I learned that there's a different "rhythm" to using the mda and once I found it, I stopped overclocking and now I think it's an awesome phone.
For locking the Wizard I normally use a combination of both lock and standby, ty hat way if the power button does get pressed in pocket (which has happened on a couple of occasion) the screen comes on but the pad is still locked.
I've owned mine since January and have been more than happy with it, sure its bigger than my old Orange C500 but it does way more too! only got around to hard reset it the other day to wipe off the T Mobile due to having so much installed on it, tis faster now tho. Overall a great phone, even my stylis still stays in tho it doesn't extend when u pull it out anymore.

another problem?

When the screen moved from portrait to landscape in my previous two tytns (which had SA problems) the change was smooth.
however, on my new one (s/n HT64...), even tho SA issues arent around (yet?) the change from portrait to landscape isnt as smooth, but still ok, but the screens backlight and display goes off, not just as if i'd left it a while (which it hasnt been, as the "change" doesnt take 1min), but as if it was off, then it comes back on when tapped or a key is pressed.
Anyone else had this problem? Is it really a problem, or am i trying to do things too fast (but then the screen blanking out would still be a problem), or am i just losing my confidence with this handset as its my 3rd one and nit picking?
If its a problem (and judging from the "same-y" devices being released this year) i think i'll leave HTC for a while, which would be a shame. Yet again, i'll be running back to Nokia!

Ultimately of course you can do more with this than your Nokia - but you also have to put in a lot more as well so depends what you want to use it for really.
Anyway your problem :
1. What advanced power settings are set and
2. What backlight settings are in?

forcing landscape

Hi,
since I got a Treo 750 now, which I like a bit more (Hermes started whitescreening again), My wife gets the hermes as dedicated navigation for the car.
Can I somehow force the Hermes to landscape mode? I found a setting in WM 6.1, but it wouldn't stay after booting...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=349760 Steps 1-4 should sort it for you.
cool thanks... I guess I'll use the app posted there in autostart, since the device solution is gone after a soft reset

HD2 Backlight/Screen Problem

Hi all,
I seem to be experiancing intermittent problems with my HTC HD2 backlight/screen. When on external power with setting's "Dim after 1 min" and "turn off device after 2 Mins" the phone sometimes works as it should, other times the backlight only dims and the screen does not shut off. Real nuisence when receiving missed call's at night as the dimmed backlight stays on most of the times.
Its been back to HTC twice for repair and it seems to be coming back with the same problem after using it for a little while. On both occasions they have replaced the motherboard even though the fault sheet on the last repair said Faulty backlight. I phoned them up and the operative said the motherboard was replaced. Unless they got confused with the first repair.
However i have come across this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=561832 "Post 10" which has the perfect mod for the registry, this is however aimed towards SE xperia X1 users, but has reference to it also being a HTC problem.
I have tried the following registry edit "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Power\Timeouts\ACUserIdle: 120"
and it works perfectly just as the device should, the screen dims after 1 min and screen goes off after 2mins. Here comes the problem though, the edited registry values seem to return to there default of "0" when the device is reset or after a prolonged period of time. I am using Resco Registry to carry out the editing.
Is there a way i can get the HTC HD2 to remember/save this registry edit so that when the phone is "soft reset" it does not revert the above key back to Default I thought the registry edit is saved untill a "hard rest" is carried out.
Cheers
I would of thought that someone out of the 72 people that have viewed this thread would of been able to help, maybe im wrong. Im sure this is a common problem, unless im the only one with this bizzare problem. I have tried looking at other threads and none seem to bare the same patterns. Please help me out guyz.
Have a look at Mortscript. It's a scripting tool that allows you to create small text files that run simple commands on your device. You could create one to set the registry value as needed and place it in \Windows\Startup so it runs when you start your phone.
Please! Please! Does anyone have a fix for this? I am in the same boat as the OP. The registry trick works but reverts back after reboot. I hate having to leave the backlight on when my HD2 is connected to the PC. Plus if you press the red button it disconnects from the PC. Hookers & Beer for the man who finds a fix!

Errr.... my post was an answer.
Thank you johncmolyneux, i will look into the mortscript program, You reckon it will be hard to write a program for this? i am very suprised that other members on this forum have not come across this problem.

From what I've seen of Mortscript, it should be pretty simple to do what you want. I've seen many examples around the forums and it was obviously built with ease of use in mind. Just do some searching and I know you'll find what you need.
Good luck mate
