How would I go about upgradeing my radio stack, I have a Walaby and the radio stack is
Code:
Radio version: 6.18.00
protocol version: 324e4
http://www.yorch.net/upgrades.htm
but make sure you dont use the wrong stack because great harm comes from giving a US 900/1900 device a 900/1800 stack and virsa versa
also great harm can come if the upgrade goes wrong
as a rule people should only upgrade if they really really need to
well what im trying to acomplish is getting better signal strength, in places that I would have full signal with say a nokia 3595 i have 1 bar if lucky, is there a tool to increase the output of the radion in the phone? or a monitering tool to mesure the signal strength in numerical fasiopn

I recently purchased a used XDA in good condition. The seller mentioned it has been flashed with WM2003.
It has a ROM version of 3.04.ee ENG
ROM Date : 06/12/2002
Radio Version M.E1
Protocol version : 324e4
I have not been able to find out if the Radio version is new or extremely old.
I reside in Canada and use FIDO GSM network and I can connect with their GPRS network and surf the net etc etc.
GPRS seems a bit slow where my Sony Ercisson phone can connect to GPRS from the exact same physical location and I can surf on it faster than on the XDA...kindda weird
Also, I notice that my GSM signal strength meter also hovers around 1 or 2 bars....where my Nokia or Ericsson show full signal...again weird
Can anyone shed some light on what I got (software ), and maybe should I upgrade to something better?
Thanks,
guru
If the radio works, regardless of the release number, I would suggest leaving it alone, also the bars for signal are in my opinion not very accurate. Radio stack upgrading is extremely risky, a phone with 2 bars is better than a paperweight/brick.

Thanks for your response.
I am happy with the unit overall, I would rather have it working than a paper weight.
Too bad this unit isn't designed to acept external hardware thru the SD port.

Hello, first the details:
T-Mobile-branded unit, (PW10B1) running on Roger Wireless in Ontario, Canada. I got this unit over the weekend, and a few people reported calls that i had completely missed. after preliminary reading here i found a 'safe' looking ROM (RUUv2.07_CEv4.01.16) update to this:
ROM: 4.01.16 ENG
date: 02/04/04
Radio: 6.25.02
Protocol: 324e4
My issue:
The phone now displays a signal strength that was even weaker than before! please help with -
1. I've tried to look back at the posts with no luck on finding details about the radio stack options - are there any RSU updates that have proven to improve this issue?
2. I see people with a slightly different ROM titles (ROM 4.00.16 / Radio 6.25.2) are you having signal strength issues?
3. where would i find past versions of ROMs? like the 4.00.16 i mentioned above?
4. would it be better to try to update the radio stack separately?
thanks very much! sorry for the long post
Be very careful with radio stacks, if you mess up you could end up with a pda and no phone, are you sure that you have a bad signal, it might be an idea to experiment as I dont think the signal meter is terribly accurate in reality.
You should know that the signal strength display in WM2003 shows fewer bars for the same signal. It doesn't mean that your received signal is weaker. With WM2003 I've had great reception with one (tiny) bar, and usually acceptable reception with no bars.
thanks for the reply guys - i noticed i noticed the same things in its use yesterday - i carried on a complete conversation with no bars showing... crazy.
anyways, in that case i am pretty well happy with it. I think the test will be when i start using it heavily during my commute into and around Toronto.
again, thanks for the help
I recently obtained an AT&T Wireless SX56, I currently had a contract with AT&T wireless and decided to use this nice piece of hardware. Ater much research I found that it had an old ROM on it A.20.17 ENG which I have since upgraded to 2003SE 3.04.00 ENG. I get a pretty lousy signal most of the time, I am assuming this is due to the radio stack, it was lousy before and after the upgrade. Is there a known safe upgrade for this radio stack/rom combination? Thanks.
Since no one seemed the anxious to answer this, I did a lot of research and came to the conclusion that I needed a 6.XX radio stack for my upgrade. So after a recommendation I decided to go with radio stack 6.24. I ran the upgrade and it ran fine, completed successfully. I then soft reset, and deleted the update program from startup. I have now experienced 4 bars, which I had never seen with A.20
Update
No problems with GSM signal ?
Does the GPRS modem work good ?
All i know is that I never had more than 2 signal bars before, and now in some areas I can get 4 bars all the time. I know in some places I still have a crappy signal or no service, but I know that is because of the limited number of towers that support this device. I have never used the GPRS modem functionality.
radio stack 6.24
Where can I download this radio stack upgrade. I have 6.18. Thanks.
Thanks for taking the time to read me,
My wifi signal level on my MDA is always very low (one bar or nothing) even when I'm at 3 meters form a wifi router. I've tried many different routers and hotspots and always getting a very weak signal, while my laptop is getting maximum strengh. Because of this weak signal it's very difficult for me to connect in a hotspot, I'm loosing the connection all the time...
I've tried to hard reset the unit, same problem.
I've contacted Tmobile, and after hours on the phone I've convinced them to send me a new device. Belive it or not same issue on this new unit!!!
Does anyone in this forum knows something about a weak wifi signal on the Tmobile MDA?
Note that i never changed the firmware:
ROM version 2.26.10.2 WWE
ROM date: 6/7/06
Radio version: 02.25.11
Protocol version: 4.1.13.12
ExtROM version: 2.26.10.105
Any help is appreciated,
thx
I read many people have radio problem with their Wizard
My problem is "I'm at home and I have 4 bar radio signal" at night I leave my Qtek on table.
At the marning he's looking for signal
I put 2.47.11 radio rom but it's the same
Repar center told me it's because the devive had falled down
Is this problem the same as usual ??
THX
Not all radio roms work well...depends on where you live. I use 2.47 and it rocks, but 2.61 and 2.69 won't fetch me even one bar where I live. Sometimes I can have a full signal and then hours later need to reclaim the signal. You can do this by soft resetting, or in settings/phone/network tab click "Find Network". I don't know if this is a common issue, but I have had this problem before...especially when I had the 2.6x radio rom's installed. Also to note...many chef's say that if you use a custom rom 2.19 is the best radio to go with.
Sorry couldn't be of more help.
