here is what happened...
got my xda 2 a few weeks which was supposedly "unlocked" and installed a sim card from my local provider and i had mobile inernet for about a week and then a few days later it just stopped. i completely lost the signal and up in the connectivity section it just says "no service". i have tried a hard reset and that didnt help. i still dont know when the heck happned or what is wrong but now things have gotten even weirder. when i toggle between flight mode on and off it prompts me saying "sim card blocked. please enter PUK" does this mean my xda 2 is locked? is it possible for a device to be unlocked and then locked all over again for some reason?
i tried using the unlocking tool from this site but the one that runs off you desktop pc tells me the phone is already unlocked and the one you run off your pocket pc tells me everything is fixed but i still get prompted for the PUK?
your problem is that your SIM card is locked, not your device. This mostly happens when you try to enter the PIN code 3 times without success. The only way out is to enter the PUK code, so you can change the SIM password.
In Europe, this code is mostly given to you at signup time. Here, in the US, they make you call the telcom operator and dig it out of them, if you get a competent person on the other end of the phone line.
So, my bet is that you entered the wrong pin code for your phone -- and maybe you did this without even knowing you did it.
sigh...to tell you the truth i was hoping it was a locked xda 2...maybe that would of explained why im not getting a signal ...
You are not getting a signal because the puk is now required to access the sim/service provider. You should be able to get the puk by calling your provider or online through your providers internet site, you should then have a working phone again. To prove this to yourself just place another sim in the phone.
I would like to do a phone call from a program (written in C++).
The problem occurs on Qtek 2020 only (not 1010) when the SIM card is PIN protected and SIM has not been entered first via the Phone application.
Assume SIM is PIN protected and not entered.
With SimGetPhoneLockedState i check if SIM PIN is needed.
If it is needed I call SimUnlockPhone.
I then wait a while and then call PhoneMakeCall.
Everything works very well on Qtek 1010 (and iPAQ 6300).
But on Qtek 2020 it seems as PhoneMakeCall never start the call (but no error code given).
Any ideas about this problem?
I have heard something about an extra "unlock" call needed on 2020 which "allow automatic selection of operator" or something like that. Any further info on that?
Note! Problem occur when SIM PIN not entered via the Phone application

You have to call lineRegister with LINEREGMODE_AUTOMATIC. Then it schould work.
I am trying to unlock my Touch HD from Orange.
I've used www.htccode.com and I now have an unlock code for my phone. I have put a friends vodaphone sim card into my phone but it doesn't prompt me to enter the code. I've even tried a hard reset but still nothing.
Could it be the ROM I'm using (BlackStoneHenge HyPer)?
Tony
p.s. Just tried with an O2 sim too - same result.
Here's a thought: I notice that the phone always goes to airplane mode when I put a sim card in. I wonder if Orange - in their infinite wisdom - have deactivated my old phone when I activated my new one. Does that sound right?
I'll put my new Orange sim into it and see what happens...
edit: Tested with my new Orange sim and the phone works fine.
In case anyone has a similar problem - I've found the cause. It was the ROM (BlackStoneHenge HyPer) that was the cause. I flashed a different ROM to the phone and the unlocking prompts then appears as expected.
Hello, i've been searching the forums for an answer to this question but with no luck.
I have two HTCs, A Blackstone and an Elf. Both are now running WM6.5 roms. The Blackstone is running one of Stonehenges. I'm unsure which one the Elf is running.
Both phones were originally on the Orange network in the UK and today I received a giffgaff sim which runs on the O2 network.
For both phones, they turn on fine, there is no message for an unrecognised sim or a request for an unlock code. Once in WM, the phone does not connect to the mobile or mobile web connections. If I try to access the phone settings I get the "Phone not ready. Try again in 15 seconds". This is always the case so I cannot access these.
So is my phone unlocked? Or maybe I've received a dud sim? Is there anyway I can check these purely in the software? Is there a registry setting I can read to see if the phone is Sim Unlocked? Does WM6.5 have the same "Enter Unlock Code" function as WM6.0?
Thank you for your help.
Check SIM on any unlocked "stupid" phone.
Check SIM on any unlocked smartphone.
In both cases it has to connect to the O2 network.
If it does not, SIM is not working correctly.
If it does, your phone(s) is(are) Orange locked.
Hey guys, strange problem:
Got a Telus LG Optimus 7. Want to unlock it to Rogers. Got the unlock code, however when I use my Rogers SIM the Optimus asks for a 'PUK' number.
Long story short, I called Rogers, they gave me the PUK for my SIM. When I enter it I get 'SIM Error'. So I went to a Rogers store and got a new SIM card with a new PUK--same error. Tried someone else's Roger's SIM--still asks for PUK.
I called around, no one has any idea what's going on. Google can barely help. Telus tells me I have to pay $50 to get it off their network, but I can't trust the rep knew what the problem was and they won't just give me an unlock code I already have. A 'cell phone repair shop' tells me LG phones are impossible to unlock anyway (? really?). So my question is:
How do I unlock this phone? What kind of security is this (could the PUK refer to someother other than a SIM's PUK)? Anyone have experience unlocking a Telus Optimus? Can I flash this thing and see if it'll bypass the PUK part?
Any help would be deeply appreciated. Other wise I have to try and resell this phone.
So, I re-flashed the phone anyway, just to see if it works.
Now it's a little different. Now it asks for a PUK and once I enter that it tells me to create a PIN. When I do it says SIM ERROR! So while I can get a little farther it still errors out!
I've tried both the Telus flash and the Mexico flash.
So if it's not the firmware, what could be causing this?!
PIN & PUK security depends on SIM card functionality, in this case phone software is transparent and does not verify PIN. IMHO it looks like incompatibility between SIM card and WP7 phone or strange configured SIM card. Try on another non-WP7 phone, maybe if you set or disable PIN code card will function on WP7 phone.
Thanks for the tip elektryk. I think you're on to something.
I have tried the SIM in a non-WP7 phone. It works fine. I put it in both an iPhone and BB. Using the iPhone I created a PIN then tried the Optimus. It now asks for a SIM pin--which I input, then goes back to the PUK screen which still fails.
It seems to be a very strange incompatibility with the SIM, even though I've read reports of Telus Optimus being unlocked for Rogers SIMs.
Bad luck I suppose?
I have exactly the same problem. I put a SIM with PIN security enabled, and after I enter the correct PIN requests the PUK!! and if I disable the PIN secure, request inmediatly for the PUK. The Phone say: Your phone is Blocked. Contact the Service provider for an unlock code.--- the only problem is that I don't use the AT&T service, so I can't contact them!! HELP!!!!!!!!!!
Fabian, I could not find a way around the problem so I sold the phone. Luckily there was another e900h which was unlocked for sale. The guy followed the same steps I did but it never asked for a PUK. Weird how some phones do and others don't (especially considering both phones were from the same provider).
EDIT: Hey, try this, see if it works: Try without sim card for enter the unlock code. and type 2945#*900# for enter the unlock menu

Hey, start the phone without sim card, but no unlock code required, no where to type.
I've a E900h where none of the 5 unlock codes provided worked for some reason. Haven't ask for PUK yet but lost as to what to do right now.
Typing 2945#*900# just produces a failed msg - top left hand corner is a file icon with lock on the left.
