Hello, i've been searching the forums for an answer to this question but with no luck.
I have two HTCs, A Blackstone and an Elf. Both are now running WM6.5 roms. The Blackstone is running one of Stonehenges. I'm unsure which one the Elf is running.
Both phones were originally on the Orange network in the UK and today I received a giffgaff sim which runs on the O2 network.
For both phones, they turn on fine, there is no message for an unrecognised sim or a request for an unlock code. Once in WM, the phone does not connect to the mobile or mobile web connections. If I try to access the phone settings I get the "Phone not ready. Try again in 15 seconds". This is always the case so I cannot access these.
So is my phone unlocked? Or maybe I've received a dud sim? Is there anyway I can check these purely in the software? Is there a registry setting I can read to see if the phone is Sim Unlocked? Does WM6.5 have the same "Enter Unlock Code" function as WM6.0?
Thank you for your help.
Check SIM on any unlocked "stupid" phone.
Check SIM on any unlocked smartphone.
In both cases it has to connect to the O2 network.
If it does not, SIM is not working correctly.
If it does, your phone(s) is(are) Orange locked.

Hello..
I last night put my phone onto "flight mode" so that i was not distrubed in the night if a text came through....
this morning i set it back to normal but the network reception reported NO SERVICE
when it had not come back this evening.... i put my sim in a different phone and used a different network's sim card in my pda.... NO SERVICE was reported for this as well but the sim that was placed in the other phone registered on o2 as soon as the phone was switched on
I've only just bought my MDA but off ebay... although it was new i am unable to contact the seller... please can anybody help??
email me to [email protected] or [email protected] if anybody can help
Thanks
MORE info re above
Hi again
In my frustration I have swapped sims again and this time put VODAFONE pay as you go sim in the MDA Magician above.... It found the network and i was able to ring/text from it.....
On putting the O2 Sim Back into the MDA it said NO SERVICE again.....
But using that very same sim in my nokia finds a network.....
The MDA is originally a TMOBILE one that has been unlocked...
ANY help on this would be very appreciated as I'm very annoyed that it's stopped working.
Thank you
Soft reset?
Although, I think taking your batter out and swapping sims may count as a soft reset.
Thanks for the reply - but again that did not solve it... besides to eliminate this i did a HARD RESET as well and re configured it....
I've even RE UNLOCKED it in case this was the problem
(its a T MOBILE PDA) with an O2 SIM IN...... I bought it in November time and unlocked it the same time... My O2 Sim has been working ok in it until the other night when i decided to put it in "flight mode"(so i wasn't disturbed at night)
Im suspecting that it anything to do with IMEI number vs SIM CARD number? Could this have been blocked somehow to that phone?
Its very confusing as it WORKS with VODA sim and DOESNT with O2 yet the SAME O2 sim works in my old nokia 6610.... aaarggghhhh!! LOL
If your MDA works with a Vodafone SIM, it certainly can't be blacklisted for all UK networks since it picks up Vodafone. Secondly, it sounds more like a SIM card issue relating strictly to the MDA. What happens when you try another O2 SIM card in the same MDA?
Make sure the O2 SIM hasn't been damaged in some way, if all fails you might want to take the MDA to T-Mobile to see if they can determine whether its IMEI has been blacklisted for certain networks. Otherwise a ROM upgrade may also help fix the problem.
Good Luck
My guess is that your magician is reported & listed as stolen. Probably not all providers are using the same list with blocked IMEI numbers. Which can explain that one sim works & the other doesn't though works in an other phone.
See if you can find a list for your country on the web. There are some references to such lists in this forum.
Regards, M
check which band your phone is using....
go Phone>Options>band> then select auto
Hi,
I have just bought an O2 mini s from ebay which only says its O2 sim lock.
However, I couldn't get it to connect to the network with my O2 sim, no signal at all.
I'm starting to think the phone IMEI is being block, but I'm not sure.
How can I know if the phone IMEI is being blocked from the network and not just sim lock.
Thanks
i'm not sure there is anyway, if it is blocked it means the phone is stolen and you should report whoever you bought it from to eBay and the police!
Just in case its a problem with your sim i would try running lokiwiz 0.2b on it as this will remove the sim and CID locks from the phone then if its still not working you need to contact the authorities
Lokiwiz is available in this thread

Hi,
Have you checked that it is not on flight mode???
Just a suggestion, you never know it could be the simplest of thing!!!!
Hi I'm new user of T-Mobile Wing. I found a thread on this forum that most of T-mobile wing don't have simlock. I get my sim card from era (polish carrier) and put inside wing. Then turned on and everything is working. It has found a service. But I still have some doubts. One is that the service name is T-mobile ( which is normal in my nokia using era because of roaming policy of my carrier) but I'm not sure if I leave USA the phone will work or not. I'm not sure how sim lock work here in USA. Should the phone report problem with other sim card when I turn it on? Or maybe it will stop working when I will come back to Poland.
From the other side when I put T-mobile sim card into my old nokia which is locked, the phone reported error "device is secured, please provide code" ( <- this is free translation from my polish)
I assume the same sittuation should appear in case of wing with era sim card, but it is my first pda and I don't know if in this case my assumptions are correct.
Thanks in advance for your answers.
yes its sim locked
you can get it unlocked so it does thru some companys try search in google.
So why right now when I put sim card from different carrier I'm able to use the phone and make calls??
yep. I've got wing registered in era without any unlocking.
huh. thats really strange. it may be some weird kind of roaming. update when you receive your phone bill? If it's kind of ridiculous, you know you need to sim unlock.
I believe that if you get a tmobile sim(prepaid or borrow one?) you can ask them to give you the simlock code and they will
I have just bought a HTC HERO that is locked to Orage from a friend yesterday, I trusted him so I didn't bother trying to see if it works on an Orange simcard. Anyways I took it to a phone shop to unlock it and the guy said i should come back the next day to get it. The next day he said he couldn't unlock it.
When I put an Orange simcard it just say "Emergency Call Only" on the top bar but when I put a different simcard it ask for unlock code. So does this mean the phone is blocked or could the unlock guy have messed with something?
Thanks for your response.
First I would confirm if it is actually locked to Orange, when you put and Orange sim in does it ask you for a code (simlock code)? If so put it in and see if you can get registered on the network, if that doesn't work try sims from different networks until you find which network it is locked to.
I have a ht hero originally on orange, unlock codes you can purchase do work on the modaco 2.8 rom.
The emergency service is something i was getting and still do from time to time very annoying. I have found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=579606 works.

Thanks for you response. I am sure it locked to Orange because when I try other simcards it ask for unlock code. But when i put Orange it says "No Service"
Hi, guys.
I have a Vodafone-locked HTC 7 Trophy.
My N1 is going to be repaired so I wanna use the trophy while it does. My operator is Simyo so I can't use my sim with the phone... looking for a way to use my non-vodafone sim with HTC Trophy I'm very confused...
Here, in Spain, we call "liberar" (literally "set free") to the process which lets your mobile uses any sim card, how call you this in English? Unlock? Unbrand?
Thank you!
Hi.
AFAIK unlocking means using the phone with any Sim Card - which would be "liberar" as you call it.
Unbranding is the process where you remove all the settings, or operator logos your phone came with.
Of course unlocking can also mean, jailbreak the phone, so you can sideload apps etc.
But in general I'd consider unlocking removing the Sim Lock.
Correct me if I'm wrong
