I recently bought an O2 XDA II made by O2, the real deal, and I don't know where its made from like Uk, Ireland, Germany, etc. All I know is the bottom of the box says made in tiawan.
O2, i-mate, dopod & etc are actually from the same OEM. (HTC taiwan). those brands are only commercial distributor & service provider. basically they are the same.
they arent the same, my friends xda ii o2 (same pda) except made in england, he has a HARD touch screen, mine is soft. his is like hitting a desk, mines squishy kinda, like plastic

it's called a screenprotector
and you too can add one to your device
and htc who are based in korea would not be likely to produce any hardware in UK
no you don't understand, we both do not have screen protectors, his screen is hard like a desk, and mines softer.

Hi I live in the United Staes. I am now presented with an opportunity to be able to buy the O2 Exec. So basically I have 2 choices, the Imate Jasjar which is available here, thus with warranty coverage, or the O2 XDA Exec which I really want for its color. I don't really know if there is a hardware difference. I want to buy the O2 Exec from one of the members here. He was kind enough to offer the responsibility to send it to O2 if there is a problem with it later.
Does the I-Mate Jasjar have the corporate settings too?
So if you guys were me, what would you guys go for?
Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.
Having owned both a JJ and Exec I would, at this point, recommend the Exec because:
- in Corporate mode it is quicker and has more storage space
- it does not appear to have the SMS notification bug
And like you I prefer the all black colour of the XDA.
Also in the UK you can get an unlocked Exec for less than £300 while a JJ can be £540/£640 (contract/SIM free).
The hardware is identical, and the corporate settings on the Exec closely resemble the Jasjar install when you skip the customization after a hard reset. In all honesty, I ended up buying the Exec, it looks way cooler, it also has BLUE keyboard backlight instead of red, which makes it much much better visible at night.
@Jah. Could you kindly elaborate what the SMS notification bug is. I am asking this because for me on the JJ ocasionally when a new SMS arrives it causes my phone to freeze. Just wondering if this is what you are referring to as the bug.
Kind Regards

Unfortunate for me that I don't know anyone in the UK. I'll be buying the Unopened Box O2 Exec for £500.
That is what I paid as well, and not too bad in comparison with Jasjar and Qtek 9000 prices.

Did you bought it direct from O2 or from one of the members here?
Any tips as to check the validity of the sale?
I already asked the seller to send me pictures of the SEALED box. Is there actually a seal or it is just in a box?
@srmz
Yes, that is it. Search here there a whole thread on the SMS problem
@cktlcmd
This is probably something you already considered and checked, but I thought I'd bring it up just in case. My main concern would be the question of whether it's locked or unlocked. For £500 I would imagine it should be unlocked. Which carrier will you be using?

From what I know, all O2 Exec are unlocked. I will be using Cingulair in New Jersey. Do you also have a universal? If yes, how is the reception? Any comments? Thanks for responding.

Yes, I have a Jasjar and use T-Mobile. I'm not a big user on the voice side of things and haven't had any problems with reception, but my limited use of that aspect might not make me the best source for an opinion.
I do use the data connection often (which is why I like T-Mobile's $19.99 unlimited data) and haven't had any problem getting a signal that way.
Ultimately I'm really happy with it because it's just the device I've been wanting. I use it for just about everything.
OK, I just bought the BRAND NEW, UNOPENED, O2 XDA Exec. I can't wait for it to be on my hands. Any tips as to a good screen protector, and where to buy it from? A link would be really appreciated.
Would you mind sharing where & how much for the unit? I am interested in getting one to be used in CA on T-Mo. Thanks.

Basically, I just waited and watch this site for most of my free time. I just grabbed it when it presented itself.

I bought my screen protectors from PPC Techs at http://www.pocketpctechs.com/main~unit~iMATE_JASJAR-496~area~home.htm
Their WriteSHIELDS come in two flavors, the C2 (Crystal Clear) and the AG (Anti Glare.) I've used both and found they are both very good. I have a crystal one on my old Dell and have never had to change it. To me, the crystal one is so clear that you really don't know it's there. That said, I have the anti glare one for my Universal, primarily because of the phone aspect. The anti glare version (which also stands up to usage very well) is also good with keeping fingerprints to a minimum so it works better when you have it up to your face too. PPC Techs offers a package where you can get one of each and that's actually what I bought for the Universal, I'm just using the AG currently.

I bought my Jasjar from Convergent Technology at http://www.convergentech.com/
Their price looks to be $1079.99, down from $1199.99 when I bought it. The color (colour )was never an issue for me, so I went with a company I had already worked with to give me a bit more confidence that any issues I might have (which I haven't, fortunately) would be worked out with a minimum of headaches.
kelford, thanks for the info, the vendor you used is fairly pricey, e.g. their price on the K-Jam is nealry $150 over what MMB charges! I had to do a double take to make sure they are not posting C$

sclui56, that very well could be. at the time i was looking to buy though, every vendor i found (except ebay) had the JJs for $1,200 so there didn't seem much of a choice at the time. that was when it was first out though, (some sites still listed pre-order status when this vendor had them in stock) and prices hadn't started falling yet. obviously their prices drop much slower than everyone else's! they must have less gravity or something.
in any event, there were two reasons i bought from them. 1) all of my previous PDA purchases had been direct through Dell so this one was a little different and being such a high ticket item there was a real trust concern. going with someone i knew was important. 2) (and probably even more importantly) i wanted it now!!! so yes, i could have waited and saved some money, but now i've had all this time to play with the JJ!

Guys... somebody wants to sell me this black (dove) casing for my XDA Mini. He said that its original. I tried to search O2 sites and couldn't find any info on O2 releasing Black (Dove) version of XDA Mini (He said that it is released in Europe). Can anyone verify?
Re:Black Dove Housing
@seraph
The Housing isn`t original because the logo in the right front cover isn`t xda II Mini
Actually, if u zoom the pic there is XDA II MINI logo on the upper right part. However, can anyone post an official link containing the XDA Mini Black (Dove) Version? Well the color is very nice but I don't wanna waste money on a fake case.
@ seraph
I assure you: there is no XDA Mini Black (Dove) version released in Europe (I'm from Germany)
I only found this on an O2 site:
http://www.seeo2.com/product/XdaIIm...m;jsessionid=8826CAE4048DD3DBEA3A242CB6D5B98F
How much is it? Looks nice.

I've guessed it.. it's a fake.. but a good one though.. He asked for $80. I think it's too much. Thx guys for the info..
it may not a be a fake maybe is resprayed.
In Germany it´s called o2 XDAmini VelvetBlack Limited Edition...
And you can can order the device(only the device,no cover) on www.o2online.de

it's called black velvet

I have exactly the same one as well ......... O2 version from germany but purchased in china crazy eh and the front and back are metal as per normal silver magician......
i bought a black one on ebay - an it seems to be a fake.. well a quite good one, bout it doesnt fit exactly (much larger gap between housing and display, the net-indikation led didn`t fit well.. and so on). the printings differ from other pictures i found on the net, the printing quality insn?t really good, and the best thing: on the cover-plate over the antenna, i can see the original anthrazit color after it got a scrach..
would never buy something like this again - especially from ebay
O2 MINI HOUSINGS AT CNN
Here are all the available OEM housings for the MINI - I would be careful purchasing housings off Ebay, as most are knockoffs and have a poor fit. CNN is an aftermarket parts store out of Hong Kong. They are reliable and sell only the highest quality OEM parts. I have used them no less than a half a dozen times in the past two years.

I think it depends on your own interpretation of 'oem'. They are not 'original' as o2 do not sell them directly. I recently got into trouble with Orange UK's legal team for selling SPV fascias as 'original' - they are not 'original' because the holder of the copyright to the logos on the items says they are not, despite being identical made by the 'oem' factory.
oem - original equipment manufacturer units should be the same as original apart from licensing / distribution.
So your question should be - 'are they oem or copy units'?
The black o2 xda mini fascias I have had from Hong Kong have been OEM.

I'm kicking around the idea of buying a Hermes, it's a sweet phone and it seems to have fallen a bit in price since I last looked at it. When searching for the different branded versions on eBay, I noticed that I could pick up a Cingular-branded Hermes (8525) a good deal cheaper than the rest of them. Are there any major shortcomings to the 8525 over other versions of the Hermes outside of the missing front camera? Using an American GSM provider, would I even miss the front camera?
I'm on T-Mobile, but if I grabbed a Cingular Hermes I'd obviously just go ahead and unlock it and use it with my service. Honestly, I think it would be pretty sweet to get the T-Mo UK branded Hermes (MDA Vario II) and carry that around instead. Then my friends would be like "whoa dog why does my T-Mobile store not have this phone how did you score it!!!" and I would be like "hell nah homies this **** is elite". But alas, it's not worth paying $600+ for a T-Mo Europe branded one when I can get the Cingular-branded one for well under 500.
Do you guys who have used multiple Hermes' have any preference? Would I likely be just as well off with an 8525 (given that I plan to flash it) as an HTC branded "TyTN" or other HERM200 version of the phone?
Thanks!
I got the 8525... If your not going to use the video calling, why pay more?

That's just it, though -- I'm wondering if it's even possible to use video calling in the United States. Is it?
More importantly, are there any replacement shells or cover-ups available for the 8525 such that one could make it appear not to be a Cingular device? I know I'm weird, but if I buy a Hermes for use with T-Mobile USA, I think it looks silly to have Cingular branding on the ****.
Thanks so much!

I bought a Vodafone 1605 on Ebay and used it with T-mobile and now Cingular....I don't mind the brand name on the phone cos I know it's all the same inside
The Vario II pricing is coming down in the UK ... just got given one for £50 on a renewal which is roughly 60% less than I was quoted about six weeks ago.
(typing as I wait for a full resync on my shiny new wm6 black to complete )
You might be able to snap one up off eBay UK on the cheap if your timing is good ...

I am pretty sure a little alcohol and rubbing would remove the branding.... if your really desperate you could use a little nail polish remover...
I think you can buy "shells" for these phones on ebay. I don't know if they are interchangeable, aka using a Vario II shell on a Cingular 8525, but I would assume they would as long as the button configuration is similar.

That's actually a really good idea; I could only find about two total MDA Vario II's on ebay.com (which makes perfect sense), but when I went to ebay.co.uk there were ****loads. Unfortunately, it seems that most sellers only offer to ship within the UK so I'd have to find one ahead of time that would be okay with shipping to the States.
That brings my next question though. What's the deal with QWERTY vs. QWERTZ keyboards? The MDA Vario II seems to be the latter, and I've typed on a QWERTY all my life and really have no intention of switching. Is it possible to not only map the buttons to QWERTY on a Vario II, but to physically switch the keys?
Man, what a pain this is all turning out to be. I guess I should probably just score a Cingular-branded Hermes and be done with it.
Hi All
I have a T-Mobile UK Branded touch pro and Im looking for a half decent protective case. Similar to the seido one here:
http://www.seidioonline.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=CSR2HTFE-BK
Im not looking for an amazing one, just a decent one that will stop the phone from getting scratched that I can buy from the UK so I dont have to pay international shipping fees and that will nicely fit the t-mobile version.
Been looking for ages but they seem to be hard to come by!
Cheers
I have this case: http://www.pdair.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=11000365_11000370_11000580&products_id=15119. I really like it. I carry the case in my pocket at work. When I want to put it on my belt I screw in the include knob and use the included belt clip. Only $28.00 from PDair with worldwide free shipping. I can find it a little cheaper at other sites that resale it, but not by the time I add shipping. It is a little slow getting it, because it ships from Hong Kong. I have bought several cases from them over the years. I have got them in as little as three days once and once it took a week. Normally 4 or 5 days to the midwest of the US.

1. Create a thread on XDA asking for help about it
2. Cry about it
3. Steal your uncle's pouch
4. Call HTC and complain about it
5. Deal with it
All valid choices.
I recommend number 4.
Even i didn't get a pouch... but i got a 8gb microsd......is that normal??
I think it all depends on the agreement that most providers/distributors have with HTC with what you get. Us Aussies with our T9193, got the pouch and 16GB microSD and all the other OEM accessories.
I got the pouch with mine, but a lame 2GB card...had to get another

The pouch is a pain IMO. You have to put too much pressure on the screen to grip it to pull it out. I use it to rest my hd2 on on my desk at work.
Stableises the wobble from the camera not being flush

Yes it is tight at first but after a couple of uses or days , it will get looser and get in the shape of the HD2.
