I bought an O2 XDA11i because of voice activation so I can make hands free calls when I am on the road and also because it is also able to operate as a Sat Nav device. I bought a bluetooth Jabra SP100 speakerphone because the speaker on the XDA was not loud enough in the car. I then bought a Fortuna GPS bluetooth receiver and loaded Tom Tom Navigator 3. As soon as Tom Tom software was loaded I could no longer pair up with the speakerphone or any other bluetooth headset. I took it to the O2 local shop who were helpful but could not resolve the problem. They tried to contact Tom Tom who indicated that once their software once loaded the XDA could not pair up with another bluetooth device.
Can someone tell me if they know a way around this problem or if there is another brand of Sat Nav software that will not give me this problem?
I only need the XDA for Sat Nav and voice calls in the car and have spent about 2 months trying to speak to an expert. If you can help it will be a big help.
Thanks.
I am using Tomtom navigator 2 USA along with a jabra bluetooth headset on my XDAIIi and they both work very good simultaneously. I can talk through the headset and still connected to the gps. I think the problem is that you are using the same COM ports for both the speakerphone and the sat nav so that only one can be used at a time. Try pairing hte speackerphone first from the bluetooth manager " add Handsfree/headset setup" then pair the tomtom and choose COM 6 from the gps menu of tomtom software.

Bluetooth

I am soon to buy the Magician in one of it's many forms. However noe thing i have been woundering is how am i am going to achieve the in-car setup i desire. Basically I need both a carkit (conversation through car stereo speakers etc) and i also want to run GPS navigation on the Magician. First of all is this possible? What happens if i am using the GPS and i recieve a call? Also what hardware are people using to achieve this as i assume i can't use both a bluetooth carkit and a bluetooth GPS reciever?! any hlp is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Tom
Hi Tom,
I've got an iMate Jam & recently installed a Parrot BTluetooth CK3300 GPS Car Kit into my 1999 RAV4. The installation was pretty straight forward for cars with ISO connection, simply put in the mic, GPS ant & control display, plug into the car harness & HiFi & off you go. The GPS part of the kit is simply & effective, I use Tom Tom Navigator 5 & it's pretty faultless, obtaining a fix in seconds. Here's the bad part, the call quality through the kit using the Jam is AWFUL. Making and receiving calls is accompanied by a loud, high pitched warbling sound which eventually subsides, but is replaced by so much interference that the call is unworkable. I know it's not the kit because my wife's SE T68i works flawlessly. Everything else about the setup works perfectly (pairing muting, upgrading via BT etc etc). This a MAJOR problem which I have sent on to Parrot & am waiting for a reply. I understand they are pretty good at customer enquiries and expect them to come back to me pretty soon. I'll post again when I hear something. Despite all the bad press the Jam gets I think it's the best one I've owned so far (I'm on my 5th) and with the right software is excellent, but the choice of car kit is essential, until these problems are ironed out I wouldn't recommend using the PDA with a BT carkit.
Apart from the poor audio, how does it work when you are being navigated by TomTom and you receive a call? Does TomTom stop talking to you? Does the display show who's calling and then go back to tomtom display etc?
Hi there,
I have a MDA compact with now the QTEK 1.12 ROM, I have a bluetooth GPS Fortuna Clip-on and a Mr Handsfree Genius Bluetooth Carkit and I love it.
As soon as I start my car, there is a bluetooth connection to the carkit and the sound quality is excellent. You can make a call without getting the MDA out of your pocket, just push the button. The only issue is voice dialing, but that is a common problem for the MDA.
Also it makes a bluetooth connection to the GPS and Tomtom works fine. The only minus is that Tomtom doesn't use the carkit speaker, but, since the speaker of the MDA is loud enough, that is no issue. There is no supply with this bluetooth carkit, so I bought a 12 --> 5 Volt converter for the MDA.
I really love this combination. The best thing, that happened to me.

so it is possible then to have two bluetooth connections running at the same time? ie. i can use a bluetooth GPS reciever such as the one that is supplied with tom tom and also use any bluetooth carkit at the same time? and this will not cause any problems even if i am making a call and have the GPS running?! If so then i will probably just buy the Tom Tom 5 bluetooth kit and get something like a parrot CK3000? would this setup work?
thanks for everyones help,
Tom
It should work. Mine does. See above. Bluetooth GPS uses a serial profile, bluetooth headset uses a headset profile. No problem to use them both at the same time.
Andre
I used my Jam as phone, mp3 player and GPS all at the same time.
1. MP3 thru my car's aux input
2. GPS thru aux input:
hardware: Tomtom BT receiver
Software: Routis 2, TomTom USA 2004 (can open both if U use GPSGate)
3. Phone thru BT headset or aux input
To answer yr question:
Since I can use both BT GPS and BT headset together. I don't think it's a problem for both BT carkit and BT GPS to works.
Phone call always get highest prioity, all other apps (GPS software, mp3 player) will be mute until U finished yr call.
Phone call is not a problem (see above) but dialing is a big trouble since no voice calling built-in. Third partner software like intellidialer and voice commander (from MS or Cyberon) helps a bit
Ive also got my jam working fine incar. I use a socket bluetooth gps unit http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=119717 with tomtom 5 then I have a SE HBH-600 Akono Bluetooth Headset for calls both work together! When I have a incoming call it mutes tomtom and displays the normal caller id app on top, answering the call (via the green hardware button) results in my jam going to the phone app totally and leaving tomtom minimized in the background. As soon as the call ends tomtom jumps back to the foreground, it all works very well in my opinion. Ive also assigned the camera button to switch me back to the today screen so I can launch any app (with tomtom still running in the background) via a icon.
Hi,
I've tried all the guides in the previous threads about getting TomTom 5.21 to work with other bluetooth GPS receivers but still no joy... it works perfectly with the tomtom BT receiver, but not my parrot 3300.
I've installed GPSgate as this will make it easier when swapping between cars and therefore whether I am using the TT receiver or Parrot...but... even with gpsgate installed, still can't get it to receive anything from the parrot. (I know the parrot is working fine cos my iPAQ on WM2003 works perfectly with it)...
I'm getting more and more frustrated with the crap bluetooth abilities of WM5 ... has anyone else got gpsgate working with their BT GPS (ideally parrot!) - if so, what com port is your input set to?
Thanks!
Hi
I have no problem with the parrot 3300 the handsfree work great the GPS works great.
Once I tryed to use 2 diffrent gps the parrot a Nokia GPS bluetooth if one work the anther well never work what I had to do is say for example I had the Nokia GPS set up to outgoing port 0 when I whatedb to use the Parrot I had to delete the outgoing port of the Nokia GPS and created a new one for the Parrot then the parrot will work.
The software that you are using from what I have read it is for one gps to use several diffrent application it is not for 2 diffrent gps to use the same application.
Ciao

ok played some more and got it working with the parrot now... as you say it is not designed for 2 gps into one software, but at the moment it is the only way I can get the parrot to work with tomtom...
will keep on playing to try and make it work, but tried all the guides so far in this forum and still no joy apart from gpsgate
does the sound from tomtom come through your car stereo speakers? I can't get mine to do this? the handsfree phone part works fine...
I'm afraid no you well not get any sound through you car speaker with Tom Tom.

Is it possible to still talk handsfree using my bluetooth carkit whilst simultaneously using a bluetooth GPS receiver to run TomTom Navigator 5?
I was just about to post about this very topic ....
Whenever I receive a call to my Bluetooth headset when I'm running tomtom it cuts off my connection to the gps receiver. The call comes through to the headset properly and tomtom mutes itself but then it says that there's no gps receiver. Strangely it comes back every minute or so for a few seconds but then disconnects again. As soon as the call ends it works fine. I'm using the £40 bluetooth gps receiver from mobilefun.com, an O2 XDA Mini S and an O2 Bluetooth headset.
Has anyone else seen the same symptoms?
Cheers

I have no problems with this but I have found out that I need the phone app to run in the background before I start TomTom. Otherwise I will miss my incoming calls. I am using my "old" Nokia BT headset.
No problems here with a Holux GPSlim and Nokia old thing... Never had a problem with having the phone app open/closed.
tomtom 5 will mute the tomtom audio when you receive/make a call and should come back on when you finish the call, the phone app should not need to be started first, i can even use voice dial
Same for me Tom Tom running and I can use my very old bluetooth headset and voice dialing Tom Tom just mutes but keeps running while making a call. Hang up and everything goes back to normal.
This should not be a problem. Are you using the 5.21 version?
On the Himalaya this works just fine since Bluetooth was implemented properly (from 1.72.00 roms onwards). Therefore it would suprise me (I ordered my Wizard 2 days ago) if this would not work anymore.
Thanks for the replies.
Today my B'Tooth GPS arrived and as advised it all works correctly; even when connected to my Nokia B’Tooth hands free car kit, I was especially impressed how TomTom 5.21 switches on the B’Tooth automatically when started, connects after 15 sec or so and disconnects upon exiting the application.
I am very pleased with MDA Vario, I rate the whole package higher than my old XDa2S.
Nobody in my office seems to know the answer to this, and i don't want to shell out £300 to find out...
I use a bluetooth handfree kit. if i buy and install tomtom with a bluetooth GPS, will they both work at the same time?
it's no use if i need to choose whether to use phone or gps before i drive somewhere!! what if i choose gps and then get a call?
thanks in advance
oh wait also.... is there even an option to have a wired GPS with the wizard? i assume not.
You can use your GPS and carkit function at the same time!
When you get a phonecall TomTom will go on mute and you can answer the phone.
I use a carkit and my tomtom together every day...
Thank you very much for the reply. That means i can happily drop some cash on tom tom etc without feeling ripped off.
Thanks
I confirm, currently using TomTom 5.21 with BT339 bluetooth GPS in a Toyota Prius with built-in bluetooth handsfree. It works really well.
it even mutes your tomtom while your on the phone
I use the Wizard with TTN 5.21 and a Nokia BT carkit. I also used it with my Bt headset.
All working very well. Also MS VoiceCommand (see appropiate thread for specific info on this)
I have a TomTom One but this is linked to my qtec 9100 by Bluetooth to download the traffic updates by GPRS. I have just purchased the Parrot hand free kit which will link to the 9100 also by bluetooth. Will this set work :? i.e. two devices on bluetooth at the same time (The traffic updates every 10-15 minutes)
Hello!
I´ve just finished upgrading my XDA mini to the german TMobile ROM-Version 1.13(with BlackBerry Extensions) and i´ve installed the Bluetooth Patch from this Forum. Now i want to use my new Moto HT820 Bluetooth Stereo Headset in combination with my Bluetooth GPS Reciever. If i use each device on it´s own there are no Problems, but if i use them TOGETHER none of them works....
Can anybody help...?
Thanks,
Thomas
Same problem here, Parrot CK3100 and a GPS. When on the phone, quality of conversation is not 100%, also GPS falls behind.
Any solutions? Perhaps another BT stack ? Or maybe PocketBT Tools is the solution?
Same problem Here!
GPS is working, Bleutooth Heatset too but not in the same time...
Tomtom5.21
Holux 230
motorola H500
Magician 1.12
Thanks for ur help

same problem here, parrot ck 3100 sounds bad when navigating with tomtom gps. i guess the different BT signals get in eachother's way ....
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was always under the impression that Bluetooth will only work with one device at a time due to the fact it creates an exclusive pairing session each time it connects.
Please Help US!!!!!!!
No one seams to be interested to help US!!!
Problem to use GPS and headset at the same Time!!!
Please help!!!
Thanking you in advance
maybe no one has the same problem anyways ... when i navigate with tomtom the parrot still sounds like crap, when i turn the bleutooth gps reciever off it sound good .. anybody?
i am considering buying a bluetooth headset but....any luck by now with using BT headset and BT gps at the same time?
or is it just not possible with this phone?
havent tried this since i got my BT headphones but i wouldnt think it is possible given i cant run headphones and use some heavy applications too sucessfully.
plus im sure tomtom and streaming would both want to use similar ports
anyone else knows if it is possible to use bluetooth headset and gps at the same time?
And does the voice from tomtom come through the headset or not?
(i prefer not)
it works for me
I'm using xda mini with plantronics 320 bluetooth headset, a noname gps receiver and igo europe as navigation software. Of course they work one at the time so when the phone rings gps connection is lost but when I finish the call gps connection is restored. The sound of the headset is the same when i'm not in range of gps receiver.
I did a big mistake when I installed a different bluetooth stack hoping that it might help(ROM 1.12.00WWE). I was wrong. I had to hard reset the phone and since then everything is just fine (about 2 months).
ok i finally got around to testing this, im using tomtom 6 with the maps located on my storage card. also using some mp3 i had on my storage card.
started music streaming to bluetooth HT820 headset, running ok. started tomtom up paused into tomtom splash screen (i thought oh ho this aint going to work too good) sure enough once the tomtom maps kicked in the gps and the headset stopped working (tomtom froze up).
as far as i could tell it wasnt that they wouldnt both run but they was both working from storage card and needed a high level of access to do it.
so in a nutshell i dont think this would be possible, this is using a 400 htz cpu and 128 memory
