Are there any way to disable adding new words to the autocompletion
vocabulary? At the same time I don't want to disable the autocompletion
at all.
The problem is as following. If some secure information is entered within
my application then the info are stored by the system. And if later another
application (Pocket Word for example) is started and some first letters of
the secure info are entered then the autocompletion system will show the
secure information.
Are there any solution better then disable the autocompletion at all?
Thanks a lot.

All - I was toying with the idea of using the autocorrect feature to create short cut txt entries on the fly. Similar to shortcuts on palm os where you enter a sequence of characters and the txt then gets replaced with your defined string. for example I enter ".kk " in a message and it gets replaced by "Knock Knock ". I modified the autocorrect.txt file by adding the entry mentioned earlier but nothing. The other items still work ( (c) gets replaced by the copyright symbol) but my entry does not. So the question is as follows;
Is this the correct file to modify?
If not is there a way to modify the correct file/database to add this feature?
Trust me this is a much faster method of entering quick txt than having to click and select from a list of the "My Text" entries.
Thank You - Richard
I suddenly have to do it without contacts completion in the Messaging program.
Before, I could just type the first 3+ letters of a contact name on the 'To:' line in email/sms/mms/ messages and a pick list came up showing the corresponding contact(s) to pick.
That neat pick list doesn't come up anymore.... not even after a soft reset.
There still is the 'Check names' option in the menu, which also comes up with the appropriate name when entering only a few 'To:' letters, but the pick list is much more efficient ofcourse.
Note: I'm using the 2.00.04 PV PRO Crossbow ROM.
Anyone the solution?
Thanks!!
There...
....already found the solution.
Because every Crossbow version still has this 'Suggestion words when entering text' issue, I set 'suggest after X words' to the maximum of 7 letters, so that when I accidentally forgot to disable the suggesting (when Crossbow's bug enabled it again after a soft reset) the suggesting wouldn't come up by typing short words.
The thing is that, even when the entire suggesting is disabled, the number of letters you set up for 'suggest after X words' still affects the number of letters you need to enter on the 'To:' line in a new message before you see the mentioned pick list.
So, solved.
I want to do the same as the person who started this thread, which may require developing a number of things. I've programmed in Java and Perl before but have no experience of writing software for mobile devices.
The information required is on a web page, so I need a program to retrieve the page text, parse it for the relevent data, and store that data somewhere (e.g. a file or registry key). It needs to do this either on a schedule, or after every call. There are actually two pages used by the provider, one is accessed by regular http and the other by https, so support for retrieving secure pages would be a bonus. After this, I need to display that data on the Today screen, so I'll need a Today plugin that displays text from a file or registry entry.
Obviously I don't want to reinvent the wheel, so need to know if any of these already exist:
- A screen scraping program/tool/library for PocketPCs. I know SPB weather does this, but I'm guessing they don't give away their code!
- A way to schedule programs, without them having to run all the time in memory.
- A Today screen plugin to display text from a file and/or registry entry.
Thanks!
Hi all!
How can I enable auto-suggest feature in inbox? I mean when I start to type in the TO field the device should offer a few contacts starting with the letters I type. This worked for me on my other devices, but not on Diamond.
Currently I can only tap on the TO text, then it slowly opens Contacts app, where I search for a contact, then it opens another screen where I can select which number I want to use. This is way too complicated!
EDIT: I see that if I use the built-in keyboard it does suggest ONE contact and I need to hit the arrows multiple times to get to the right one. However, if I use any other keyboard (like e.g. Resco Keyboard which is my default one), no contacts are offered at all.
Thanx
Still no joy
I found this info, but it still does not work:
"If you want Auto Complete function in "To:" field in SMS app, go to HKLM>System>Inbox>RecipientAutoComplete and change value of the string MaxSuggestions. from 0 to 4 for example."
Half-solution
I found a solution at http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?p=241036
This hack works, however disables the default auto-suggestion of the built-in Touch keyboard. However, I do not intend to search further, this is a completely acceptable compromise for me:
"The culprit is Xt9, when it's enabled it disables sms name lookup, so disable XT9 and whalla. Instructions... browse registry:
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Layouts\e001 0409\Ime File
set the Ime File value from \windows\eT9ime.dll to compime.dll"
You may also need to add these registry entries (not sure):
HKLM>System>Inbox>RecipientAutoComplete
MaxSuggestions (DWORD): 4
HKLM>System>Inbox>RecipientAutoComplete>SuggestionGenerators:
email (STRING): "{364D1505-915A-4b1d-85A6-8C258B2D2246}"
phone (STRING): "{45EEED9B-898c-4caf-BC3E-A5422F56085B}"
Hope somebody will be happy with this finding

Hey i was looking for this since long. But the problem is that when i try to change the registery key it says access denied. How to change it. I am using Ceregistry editor. This doesnt allow me to change the value.
bump.............
registry editor
I am using PHM registry Editor. I have not had any problems with it.
Actually I have this problem not in SMS but in email. I don't get any suggestions at all even without TX9.
Does anyone have a fix for this please?
I am running Nataly 2.6 ROM and both SMS and email have auto-suggestion enabled. However, I have seen some posts complaining about email not working (on other ROMs). Don't know the answer for this one, sorry
Is there a way to force prediction on the keyboard for a field that wouldn't normally have this?
Can I take that as a no?
no,take that as "we don't get you, explain it a bit" and "be patient, you've just waited for an hour and are already bumping"
Actually it was 25 hours, but I will try explain a little better
When on a webpage, both the regular browser and dophin browser allow text entry to parts of webpages.
Some fields such forum message fields (ie the one I am typing in), give predictive text, allow you to type quicker.
Some fields such as usernames do not.
Is there a way to force a field to allow predictive text.
ah,so....that was clear enough...i did spot that, but didn't need that option...but you can choose browser to remember your password
It's actually not just a username field, that was simply an example.
I believe it's done by default..i believe when you have an input field and you have the keyboard, tap the gear that signifies the settings for the keyboard and toggle to settings that will suit your needs.
You can also add words when you type predictive text by pressing the arrow that faces down when you see the word suggestions, and manually type in a word suggestion so that the predictor will give the newly created word as a suggestion. For instance, i've set it so when I type p-r-i on my phone, it autosuggests my username, princedwi.
Hope this helps!
Nope, sorry, still no good.
When I type a text message I get the predictive text, if I type "examp" it will fill in "example", however there are some boxes (mainly in web browser on some websites), php shoutbox for example, that simply don't, if I type "examp" then that's what it says.
Hitting the gear brings up text input settings, but the settings are ok for lots of other text fields, just not all.
Just a guess, but perhaps these particular fields don't use the standard Android 'widget' (not as in desktop app, but as in 'form' control as we call it in programming). For shoutboxes, I'm pretty sure they'll use a custom sort of javascript control, which may not actually use the default android textbox.
Could this be the issue?
Quite possibly.
And would there be a way to force predictive text in those fields.
I get where youre coming from mate - some text entry fields default to T9 and others in other programs default to ABC entry (catching you and me off guard!!)
T9 = Text on 9 keys, so slightly different, but think you know what I mean.
Don't think so
I've filed a bug against prediction being enabled for a password field in the stock Android (bad idea - passwords are not (should not be) dictionary words). This makes me think that prediction is a setting of the input field, and your application (Browser in your case) code simply disables it.
Other than reverse-engineering and patching the app, I don't know of a way to force prediction/autocomplete on.
