Autocorrect.txt file feature - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

All - I was toying with the idea of using the autocorrect feature to create short cut txt entries on the fly. Similar to shortcuts on palm os where you enter a sequence of characters and the txt then gets replaced with your defined string. for example I enter ".kk " in a message and it gets replaced by "Knock Knock ". I modified the autocorrect.txt file by adding the entry mentioned earlier but nothing. The other items still work ( (c) gets replaced by the copyright symbol) but my entry does not. So the question is as follows;
Is this the correct file to modify?
If not is there a way to modify the correct file/database to add this feature?
Trust me this is a much faster method of entering quick txt than having to click and select from a list of the "My Text" entries.
Thank You - Richard

Annoyance with WM5 behaviour related to number cut and paste

Thought I'd throw this one in incase I'd missed something.
There appears to be some basic failings in the ability to cut and paste phone numbers between various applications on the WM phone.
Take the example that I receive a SMS text message from someone not in my contacts database.
I know who the person is and I want to create a new contact entry using the received phone number.
There appears to be no way of cutting or copying the phone number from the messaging section and pasteing it into a new Contact.
Or it may be that I already have an entry for the person I just don't have their mobile number number in the contact record (or what ever new number is received).
Have I missed a trick here - or indeed is this a limitation that exists. If there is a work around I'd love to know. i just have such an appauling memory for numbers that I couldn't even remember between flicking between applications - let alone the scope for error.
Thanks
Re: Annoyance with WM5 behaviour related to number cut and p
Open the message (instead of just reading it from the list or notification window). You'll note that the From: field is already selected.
Press the Menu softkey, then Save to Contacts.
Simple as that
OK so that allows you to create a new contact. Once you have them in contacts you can do a copy of the number and paste it into an original record. Then delete the new contact just created. Ideally I'd like to miss out the intermediate step of creating another new contact - for those where I know I already have a contact entry, but just not with that particular number.
I agree with you.
There should be an extra choice after save to contact.
Like new contact/ add to contact.
The same with email. If i want to add an emailadres it makes a new contact.
An other problem i find is that copy/ paste is not always available when i select a text.
When I rename a file in file explorer I can't select the word and copy/paste by "tap and hold".
Now i use GSPocket Magic to copy/ paste
You would have thought that on the, what is it, 3rd iteration of WM they could have sorted this out.
It is behaviour like this that can make all the diference between something that is really user friendly and something which is torturous.
Hopefully there are some influential people who read this that can feed it back to the powers that be.
You can try PQz fot copy/Paste : http://www.nicque.com/PQz/
This there too : http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=33343
open up the message, where is says the from tap and drag on the screen to highlight the number then tap and hold on the highlighted but then when the menu opens click copy

Contacts completion in messaging

I suddenly have to do it without contacts completion in the Messaging program.
Before, I could just type the first 3+ letters of a contact name on the 'To:' line in email/sms/mms/ messages and a pick list came up showing the corresponding contact(s) to pick.
That neat pick list doesn't come up anymore.... not even after a soft reset.
There still is the 'Check names' option in the menu, which also comes up with the appropriate name when entering only a few 'To:' letters, but the pick list is much more efficient ofcourse.
Note: I'm using the 2.00.04 PV PRO Crossbow ROM.
Anyone the solution?
Thanks!!
There...
....already found the solution.
Because every Crossbow version still has this 'Suggestion words when entering text' issue, I set 'suggest after X words' to the maximum of 7 letters, so that when I accidentally forgot to disable the suggesting (when Crossbow's bug enabled it again after a soft reset) the suggesting wouldn't come up by typing short words.
The thing is that, even when the entire suggesting is disabled, the number of letters you set up for 'suggest after X words' still affects the number of letters you need to enter on the 'To:' line in a new message before you see the mentioned pick list.
So, solved.

Auto-suggest contacts in Inbox

Hi all!
How can I enable auto-suggest feature in inbox? I mean when I start to type in the TO field the device should offer a few contacts starting with the letters I type. This worked for me on my other devices, but not on Diamond.
Currently I can only tap on the TO text, then it slowly opens Contacts app, where I search for a contact, then it opens another screen where I can select which number I want to use. This is way too complicated!
EDIT: I see that if I use the built-in keyboard it does suggest ONE contact and I need to hit the arrows multiple times to get to the right one. However, if I use any other keyboard (like e.g. Resco Keyboard which is my default one), no contacts are offered at all.
Thanx
Still no joy
I found this info, but it still does not work:
"If you want Auto Complete function in "To:" field in SMS app, go to HKLM>System>Inbox>RecipientAutoComplete and change value of the string MaxSuggestions. from 0 to 4 for example."
Half-solution
I found a solution at http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?p=241036
This hack works, however disables the default auto-suggestion of the built-in Touch keyboard. However, I do not intend to search further, this is a completely acceptable compromise for me:
"The culprit is Xt9, when it's enabled it disables sms name lookup, so disable XT9 and whalla. Instructions... browse registry:
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Layouts\e001 0409\Ime File
set the Ime File value from \windows\eT9ime.dll to compime.dll"
You may also need to add these registry entries (not sure):
HKLM>System>Inbox>RecipientAutoComplete
MaxSuggestions (DWORD): 4
HKLM>System>Inbox>RecipientAutoComplete>SuggestionGenerators:
email (STRING): "{364D1505-915A-4b1d-85A6-8C258B2D2246}"
phone (STRING): "{45EEED9B-898c-4caf-BC3E-A5422F56085B}"
Hope somebody will be happy with this finding

registry editor
I am using PHM registry Editor. I have not had any problems with it.
Actually I have this problem not in SMS but in email. I don't get any suggestions at all even without TX9.
Does anyone have a fix for this please?
I am running Nataly 2.6 ROM and both SMS and email have auto-suggestion enabled. However, I have seen some posts complaining about email not working (on other ROMs). Don't know the answer for this one, sorry

copy and paste contacts

Hey guys,
I was trying to edit some contact, and I want to copy last name and past it into first name. But although I select last name and keep it pressed, menu for copy and paste is not showing. Is this a bug or I'm doing something wrong..
No, you are not doing anything wrong.
It's because the custom Contact editor that HTC included with the Topaz doesn't support Copy/Paste.
Hopefully HTC will provide a fix for this in the upcoming months (or possibly with the 6.5 upgrade) But until then, you can either edit the contact using the WM Contact editor (which I think you can Copy/Paste) or just input all your names manually.
You can switch the SIP to "Keyboard" and then use CTRL+C and CTRL+V.
Tap the contact you want to edit, tap on "Edit Contact", scroll down and tap on "More".
There you will enter the default WM6 Contact editor where you can do the copy(cut)/paste thing you wanted to do.
Thanks,,,it's working!!

Sending SMS API - partially working (Windows Mobile)

Hello,
I am using C# to send SMS from an application i'm writing.
i have tried either
1) Microsoft.WindowsMobile.PocketOutlook.SmsMessage
2) [DllImport("sms.dll")] int SmsSendMessage(...
but in both cases i need to specify a FULL phone number including country code (i.e. +972544...)
if i specify a regular number, the SMS won't reach.
the interesting thing is that when i use the built in SMS Phone's application and specify a regular number, the messages do reach.
So, have i missed something? Is there a standard way to make my messages be sent (have i forget a flag, special way of calling the API or what ?!)
Many thanks
Hi there,
I don't know a lot about programming, but maybe you could do something like the following example.
My country code = +316
Set all the country codes in a array (or something like it in C#)
When I type in the number 0612345678
Use some kind of script to split:
$countrycode = 06;
$phonenumber = 12345678;
Search in the array for '06'.
$newcountrycode = +316;
echo($newcountrycode,$phonenumber);
+31612345678

Maybe this will help?
issue resolved
Just to update - I found a solution to this problem
The API that I use is SmsOpen, SmsSendMessage, SmsClose (from sms.dll).
The SendSmsMessage API gets an address parameter which includes one of numerous values, the ones relevant for the solution are SMSAT_INTERNATIONAL (equals 1), And SMSAT_UNKNOWN (which is 0)
If the number starts with “+” use international, else use unknown and the phone will figue this out and add the relevant extension. Note however that the latter might not work when roaming.
enjoy
