Since I upgraded my Magician from 1.3.00 WWE to 1.6.00 WWE I've been having problems with the device. It's automatically hard and soft reseting itself! My first guess was battery-problems, but then it should just soft-reset, right? It never happens when it's lying still on the table. Only when I'm using it. Last time it happened I took my SD-card out and it just died. Has anyone experienced this?

I'v upgraged my XDA II mini to 1.6.00 WWE. It seems OK unless BT. Sometime, it doesn't dectect BT device.
There is a supsicion that the 1.06 WWE ROM is not as good as it is supposed to be. I suffered many problems as well, and i-Mate decided to postpone their 1.06 version until mid/end March for that reason.
I kept the 1.05 radio stack, which actually IS better, but downgraded the rest. No problems ever since.

Hi,
I upgraded my xda to the SE v1.2 ROM a few weeks back. I was running the 4.16 radio stack for many months without issue, so i left it at that.
A week after the upgrade, the phone slowed, and could get any radio signal, the backlight flashed intermittently, and on soft reboot, it wouldnt pick up any radio stack version num etc. Phone section was not working. Only on hard reboot did it start working again.
I thought maybe it was the new rom and incompatibility with the older radio stack, so i updated with the latest radio stack from o2 Uk website, v4.21.
However, after one day, i suddenly found the phone had gone again, and teh radio stack wasnt recoverable after soft reboot. I had to hard reboot again.
All my updates have gone without a hitch, and i havent installed any funny apps.
Someone else must be experiencing this too ? Ay resolution?
I have had the exact same symptoms on my PDA (PW10B1) with 6.24 of the stack. It was happening about every 4 hours or so. I reloaded the stack and its been working for about a day now without any problems.
Thing is i had the official rom from UK o2, from about 4 months ago (1 think 3.14), and there was never this issue.
Now ive cold booted twice, and upgraded the radio stack, and im still getting the prob. Ive down everything standard, no funny apps etc.. so i cant imagine many others are suffering the same.
I have seen this on my XDA (T-mobile)
I have had 4 XDA replacements (I have had stability problems)
Even with the default ROM and Radio.
I had the screen flash not just the blacklight and lost functionality till I reset the unit.
are u in the uk? Did the provider happily exchange the xda based on what you described as your prob, or did you have to argue with them?
Ansaar99
Sorry for the long Delay..
I omplained and then they replaced it.
Basically thats their answer to everything here.
Send them a new phone..
kinda sucks
Kinda rocks
but
in the end if it doesnt solve the problem its doesnt matter.
BeDammit
About units having to be replaced four times:
I have a feeling that there's a quality control problem in the handling and repair of these things. Many 'repairs' probably just mean the unit gets swapped with one that's lying around somewhere up in the supply chain. And if that's a unit that someone else brought back because of an intermittent problem, you have only problematic units lying around at some point.
I am using the Imate PPCPE with the latest ROM and Radio Stack. The phone has been working fine ever since I've had it (few months now) but since two or three days ago, I have noticed that if I have been in an area where the phone can not find a signal or has very low signal strength (basement or elevator etc.) when I come out into the area where there should be normal (strong) signal strength, even then the phone doesnt automatically find a signal and come back online... instead i still get the antenna with no signal bars until i reset the device.
As far as I can remember I haven't installed any new software in the last week to have caused this.. otherwise I am running Wisbar Advance 2 and Spb Plus and Pocket Breeze and stuff... but all this has been on there for many months but this issue only started in the past couple of days.
Has anyone experienced this with their device? Is it software related or is it hardware? Will a hard reset fix it? Any other experiences?
This was a not uncommon problem with early XDA II's with the ROM V1.03, but recent ROM updates seemed to have cured it.
It got so bad with some users, that the continuous signal seek drained both the main and backup batteries, causing a hard reset. From ROM 1.60 this was "cured" as the phone module now powers off once the battery gets critical.
It could be a hardware fault in your case, especially if you are experiencing the problem in areas that used to be OK. May be worth trying a hard reset? What ROM/Radio are you using?
Rom: 1.72.00WWE
Radio:1.14.00
Well a hard reset seems to have fixed the issue. Now let me try to notice if adding new software affects this.
Thanks
Signal strength still very low
Its still not fixed.
The signal strength is very poor in general. In areas where its supposed to have a FULL signal, its less than full and where the signal is already not so strong, there's no signal. All i get is "SEARCHING" (for signal). Why is this happening? everything was just fine a few weeks ago.
Its very annoying because frequently when i look at my phone, I see a "searching" message and everyone's complaining why my phone is always off.
Is this something that can just happen out of the blue in a fully normal phone? It this software related or a hardware issue?
Any similar experiences? any recommendations?
Ive recently started getting this too.
I upgraded to the latest 1.72 o2 rom, maybe its an issue with the radio stack in that?
I didnt used to get it at all.
Its a problem when you come out of a lift, or from the tube. You have to reset it everytime!
For me, I dont think its related to the new ROM. Because my device always had the latest ROM (1.72WWE) and the radio stack but it never happened until recently.
And I upgraded my ROM to the newest WM2003SE (2.06WWE) and Radio but the issue is still there.
I am beginning to think its a hardware related issue.
What did you do about it Pyrofer? Is it fixed on your device now? What device do you have? Mine is an Imate.
could be hardware bro...... how about trying on 1.08 radio rom? when i reverted back to 1.08 my signal level increased... i was also annoyed by that signal searching stuff.. goodluck

@Z-man
i was trying to do the same, i wanted to use radio 1.10 with OS 2.02t1 but i got error code :123! it seems i can't use older radio stack!
how did you do it? i can jump between radio 1.14, 1.14a, 1.18 but i could not go older version!
one more thing should i reflash every thing to update only radio?and could you post your radio stack?
thanx man.
Iput together the upgrde to wMSE in one folder, then replaced the orig. radio rom with 1.08..
I used er2003edit to check if the language and operator was the same as i have in my unit... e.g. WWE and O2.
then i plug the charger in the cradle clicked on the upgrde prgram
then all went well.. i have 1.06 bootloader....
I have tried radio roms 1.14, 1.17 but i eventually reverted to 1.08
thanks to am-imate for the radio rom
OK I'll also try the new (I mean older, 1.08 Radio).
How do I know what version of bootloader I have?
More importantly, what role does the boot loader play in this whole ROM upgrading thing?
When we upgrade from WM2003 to WM2003SE we know we are doing it for some new features and stuff... when we upgrade radio, it must be the same, so what are the differences between the 1.08 and 1.18 Radio? why would an older one be more stable?
the boot loader version 1.06 they say does not allow downgrade.....maybe of o/s rom.
to check for boot loader version, push navi key+power button+reset button. be warned though, this would equal a hard reset....
radio roms had their revisions... hence, 1.08,1.14,1.17,1.18...
i monitored the my signal levels using 1.08 through 1.17 and observed that 1.08 is better for my unit.. goodluck dude
No problem... I was on a quest earlier on in the year to get as many radio ROM's as possible, but couldn't get anything earlier than 1.08.
I have the same problem, I actually had a 1.06 Radio ROM that I blasted away by accident that used to work really well. I'm on 1.18 and have difficulties, so I'll probably drop back down to 1.08 on my next hard reset.
What appears to be happening in my case is the phone searches out a 900Mhz signal first (which in my case is another carrier and is stronger than the 1800/1900Mhz) and sits there and doesn't go on to scan the 1800 and 1900Mhz bands.
am-imate
cool bro!... I'll se if i find 1.06 and maybe post it here
Ive done nothing about it.
I just put up with frequent resets at the moment.
Ive unticked ALL other carriers in the networks settings now to see if that helps. I have the latest o2 rom with the latest radio version in that.
I dont think its hardware as I havent done anything that would damage it in any way.
Unless it breaks itself from just being in my pocket.
I'm not sure if anyone else has experienced this, but my Dopod 818 pro has a tendency to soft reset itself every few days, sometimes twice a day. I have my Dopod usually sitting on the desk next to my computer at work, I'd look over and suddenly it would soft reset.
Other than that, the unit has been running very smoothly, so I'm wondering what might be the problem that is causing these spontaneous resets. I don't have any particular programs running at the time either.
ROM update
have you applied the ROM update?
I was having the same problems 4 days before the ROM update came out, I installed the ROM update and it has not soft-resetted on me anymore.
So it was either a bug in the old ROM which manifested itself after some time which was solved in the update, or else I had installed some naughty software and it needed a hard reset. However regarding the latter point, when it started soft-resetting I had not installed anything new for more than a week.
Anon´s solution in this thread got rid of the soft resets and memory card disappearance problems on 818pro´s for most of us.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=41191&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=50
@acer175: There is no ROM update for 818pro yet, so this AFAIK is the only solution at present.
Thanks...
I'll give that option a try...i do hope an update come around soon to fix these minor bugs...
imate rom 23rd march
@Lucas
sorry I should have specified, I was referring to the Imate ROM dated 23MAR (that's what I have). I have a JAMin, but my friend flashed it on his 818 without any problems, although he is a bit unsatisfied with the sound quality.
Also they say somewhere around on this forum that the S200 ROM is even better.
Now the Dopod-own ROM update is just around the corner, Chinese version is already out. Dopod is slower than the other ODM´s since some of the Dopod´s own drivers contain errors which had to be corrected (leading to soft resets, memory card disappear etc.). HTC is not at fault, they released the updates to all ODM´s at the same time.
ODM=Original Device Manufacturer
chinese dopod 818 pro rom update out?
I hadn't noticed that they had any updates, except one for the speaker and one for the activesync...anyone have details where to find this update?

Is it just mine, or has anyone else noticed that their wizard reboots itself every so often? (Usually about once every 2 days or so)
Mine is a T-mobile MDA Vario
ROM Version 1.6.2.4 WWE

yes, i've stopped noticing such problems after upgrading to AKU2 ROM. btw, use http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php next time, this topic has been mentioned few times already...
Check out this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=48530. Lots of people have this problem, and several fixes have been suggested. The basic problem seems to occur with some ROM versions when you put in an SD memory card - I'm not sure whether size matters (!?).
I'm going to upgrade my ROM soon, but in the meantime I spent a week testing without any SD card inserted in my Vario and I didn't get a single reboot. Before & after the test I was getting (and still do get) at least 1 reboot a day. To monitor the situation, I used a little program called B_Uptime which automatically logs all resets.
So try taking out your SD card for a few days (if you can) and see if that makes the problem go away, I think you'll find it does.
Andre
mine only reboots itself on days i try to use msn messenger-if i dont launch msn, no reboots :?: :?
This is weird, it has happened to me before. Actually happened on my first replacement a few times one day and then the phone suddenly stop working and wouldn't charge or turn on. Today, it started happening on my second replacement, so I am beggining to get nervous it will die again....
I am using the original tmobile uk rom, so I can run blackberry connect. I do have a minisd card in, but I run a few things off of it, so I can't remove it.
Ok, cheers for all your comments, decided to take the plunge and upgrade to the QTEK 2.17 ROM.
I had a read of these comments and the comments on the other similar thread, and the problem appears to be generic to the T-Mobile ROMS.
By the way, the QTEK ROM is definately better for those that may be tempted. Give it a go.
CID unlock first using lockiwiz 0.2b (or later). Then install the ROM.
Worked for me at least.
ATB Clive.
I'm using a t-mobile MDA Vario II for two weeks now.
- Serial HT640...
- ROM Version 3.60.111.4
- Radio Version 1.50.00.00
(official German t-mobile WM6 update, no individual software so far)
I had to soft reset 3-5 times a day. Frozen display in different situations, during a call, when working with WM6 apps and even if the MDA was in standby. Therefore I had t-mobile replace the unit. They sent me an already updated replacement (serial HT638...) with the same ROM. I'm using this one two days now but the situation hasn't improved at all.
I just can't imagine that this is the way it should be. Are there any similar experiences? Will a cooked ROM improve the reliability? Do I have to use another Radio version?
Thanks for your help and greetings from Germany,
Andre
I soft reset roughly once every four or five days maybe? Usually cos I have installed something or uninstalled it.
My Vario 2 locks up when using TomTom6. Initially I did a soft reset to get it going again but I then found that pressing the OK button (on the side) took me back to the Today screen, I could then tap the TomTom symbol and hey-presto it's back working again. Have you tried this?
Dave
I used to have to reset my Vario 2 about 4 times a day with the original T-Mobile WM5 ROM on it as it kept freezing. That was one of the main reasons why I tried the WM6 ROMs when they came out on here. Since I started installing the ROMS from here, I'm down to maybe one every couple of months. I haven't tried the official WM6 ROMs, as I'm perfectly happy with the custom ones.
My advice, spend a couple of days playing with Matt_K's Pandora kitchen. It's ridiculously stable, and you can set it up exactly as you like it without any of the stuff you never use!
Thanks, gonna try this. Andre
