Hi,
Most of my friends and family have more than one mobile number. in my nokia i can simply add a new mobile number to the person's name and even add a note to it to identify the operator. can this be done in WM2003 in the MDA Compact?
thanks
yes,of course..!
well, how do you do it? is what i was actually looking for not just a yes answer although it is justified seeing as i did not phrase my question to be more specific.....
You only have to the new numver to the contact as "Work phone" or "other" etc...
you can even place them under 'CAR' or 'PAGER' they would still be dialled if selected although you can't change the note it is the best solution I think. I guess you could just put his/her primary mobile to MOBILE and the secondary to CAR or PAGER or another field. My bro has 3 mobiles and this is what i did with his contact card.[/img]

Is there a way to add a phone number from a received call to an existing contact and not to a new one?
uhmm... Bump????
uhmm... No?
uhmmm....Grrrrr
agreed
Keep in mind that MS are a relative n00b when it comes to phone services. They don't quite 'understand' the needs just yet. It'll come, but probably not for current devices - short of a hefty ROM update
Third party developers should be able to address this to an extent.
Ahhh, no worries, even Sony Ericsson do not with their best business phone yet. P910i does the same stupid thing, when one should think that with their experience.......and the lesser, below 150Euro phones do.
We'll just have to wait then...thanks
This is something that has annoyed me since I got my phone. I can't believe such a basic function has been overlooked.
I'm not sure if that's such a basic function, really
A lot of phones don't allow more than 1 number, and you end up specifying multiple contacts e.g. "ZeBoxx" and "ZeBoxx (cell)".
In addition, even the PocketPC doesn't have multiple phone numbers, just several fields - i.e. one for a land line, one for a mobile #, one for a work #.
Let's say the contact in question has 2 cell numbers - you'd have to either say that the 2nd cell number would be their 'work' number', or if they already have that - and a land number - still make a 2nd contact

Yeah, why not? Most simple Outlook synched phones do that.

In some ways you a re right, but WM5 has multiple fields for a single contact as you specified so if I receive a call from a person in my contacts and I want to save that number against his name as it may be a number I don't have for him, I should be able to do it. If not by a simple menu option then at least allow me to copy the number by tap and holding it but even that doesn't work.
A lot of people now carry two cell phones around so it's about time that they provided two cell phone fields in the contacts.
Just wondered has anyone found a solution (maybe with 3rd party software on the XDA Mini) to a problem (more annoyance) I've hated on all mobiles I've ever had:
The problem is if I have 2 separate contacts with the same home telephone number, I've never found a way to specify which name shows up as calling for if that number phones me.
For example I have my mum stored as Maragret McRobie, with her mobile number and home number. I have my dad stored as Robert McRobie with his mobile number and his home number, which is the same as my mum's.
If someone from my mum & dad's house phones my mobile, I want it to show as Margaret McRobie calling, as it's more likely to be her phoning from the house than my dad.
However every mobile I've ever had, including the XDA Mini S, seems to get confused as there are 2 contacts with the same number, and usually just displays the 1st one alphabetically in your Contacts. I think the Wizard behaves by showing the name of the last one you phoned - i.e. if I phoned my mum's mobile more recently than my dad's, if their house phones it shows as my mum. I *think* this is how it works. It's better, but not perfect.
Any way round this, so I can specify explicitly which name will show up?
Cheers
None that I know of.
But if your Dad hardly ever phone you from home why don't you just delete the home number from his entry.
Yah, all mobile phones don't handle shared numbers very well. Your lucky its even showing you a name, because nokias won't show anything (just the number) if you have it saved under two names.
I'd suggest creating a new contact just for the home number and name it "Mom and Dad house" or something along those lines.
Hi folks,
TIM Brasil send me ans SMS with all calls I've lost. useful when I flying, at arrival I saw who call me.
The problem is the SMS contain the caller number, time and date, so I need to search at Contacts to discover the caller name.
Someone know a piece of software able to look at phone number inside of SMS and scan the Contact to match it, showing the name of the contact?
Best regards
Any ideas?
Here in Italy vodafone sends a similar SMS but sets the sender name to the one who attemped to phone you
In this way the phone shows automatically the name (if it has been stored in contacts)
To quickly discover who's the owner you can do two things:
1) if the message contains "This number +xxyyyyyy tried to call you..." press the down key (the number should be selected by a square box) click and your phone should start dialling that number (doing a lookup in contacts and showing the name)
2) you can remember the first numbers (excluding the international prefix) press "red phone", "green phone" (to quickly start the phone application) and use the hermes' smartdialer to quick find who's the owner.
Try using SPB Diary...
Make sure your numbers are in the international format.

In fact this work, but is not exactly what I want, because after a airplane trip the SMS has 3 or 4 numbers. So I need to call/abort 3 for times... It's not elegant way.
thanks.

WM developer
Hi Guys,
I'm trying again... Is there a WM developer here who could develop a little plug in to do it?
I think is not complicated, but I don't know WM development to do it.
Of course this could sold to the community.
i had once a siemens sl45 and when i had a phone number in a sms it replaced it by the name in the phonebook... i so miss that feature..... i haven't seen it on other phones since then...
I'm not alone
Finally someone understood what I'm saying.
It's very useful this feature. I'm wondering if someone could develop this.
Anybody as a volunteer?
Maybe this is what you need?

Its work - It's great
Thanks Moe,
It's exactly what I was looking for.
Thank you.
Hello,
I often use an access code to dial internationally, and once I am connected to that access number, I have to enter the number of the person I am calling.
I have an HTC Touch HD with WM6.1pro and cannot find a way to do it. If I connect to the access number, then at the prompt go to my address book and dial a second number, it assumes I want to have two separate calls and puts the access code on Hold... which is not what I want! I do not remember all my friend's numbers, so I do have to use the address book.
With my old nokia n95, once connected I could go to the menu and say I want to dial a DTMF which is the tone you hear when dialing a normal phone. This allows me to follow on with calling the number I need while connected to the call.
Is there a way of doing this on WM6?
I have a kind of work around. I edit my international friends phone numbers as a "car phone" and the numbers look like this
02081802828 p 0027115555555
the access code, then I add p to pause then their number.
The HUGE problem is that when I dial any of my international contacts, the phone displays the same person... so no matter who I call internationally, it always shows a photo of my friend Ian, and displays his name instead of the person I am actually speaking to. I think this is a bug where WM6.1 only looks at the first 11 characters of a number, but the problem is, all my intl numbers have the same first 11 numbers.
Help MUCH appreciated, thanks,
Mark.

Don't know if it will work... but you coud try (using Advanced Config) to increase the number of digits used to "match" the numbers in the contacts... for example to 18 or 19 numbers... but I cannot immagine what other "consequencies"could happen...
Let us know !

Hi Kostas
It seems that the problem is actually with spb Mobile Shell and not windows mobile.
When I dial using the windows mobile dialler, it gets the name and picture right, but when I use spb's dialler it shows the wrong person and name...
I will chase it up with them... and thanks for the good idea, unfortunately the Call ID Match does not help the problem.
Efgaristo!
Mark.
Can someone clarify if WM7 will show both the full name and company for incoming calls.
I save all my contacts in outlook and use the File As to show both Person & Company i.e. John Smith(ABC Ltd).
I have over 1500 contacts for work and it's one of the features that has kept me with Windows for years.
I've tried Android and that doesn't do it. Iphone doesn't do it. Nokia doesn't do it - Not sure about Blackberry.
Also does WM7 have smart dial - I'm sure I read that it didn't, again it's a feature that's kept me with Windows, I have a shocking memory and being able to dial by first name, last name, company or telephone number is invaluble.
Cheers
Pete
For me it shows only 1st and last name + picture if available. Company info is a no go as long as you don't incorporate it in the contact name itself as I usually do.
Smartdial: No. But searching the contact list is easy. Just type 2-3 letters and you have narrowed the results enough. I'm saying this with 700+ contacts.
...I very much like to use voice dial, too. Very reliable, in fact, and fast.

That's really dissapointing - as a business tool I find it so very useful.
I guess I'll have to stick with 6.5 until something else similar comes along.

Dear All,
I'm experiencing very strange issue with my WP7 HTC HD2, when receiving call form my saved contacts.
Almost all my contacts are saved in my phone with international dialing code as I'm living abroad.
When I receive call abroad, the name of my contact is displayed.
When I receive call at home the name is not displayed, only the number is displayed and I dont know who is calling while the number is saved in my phone with international dialing code.
To have the name displayed I have to save the number again without international dialing code.
I have the same issue when I dialing also.
Please help.
