Hi all
I expirence a strange problem I can't really explain to my self.
For two weeks now my XDA looses battery quiet rapid. I goes from 100% downto 25% in a matter of 8 hours... this hasn't been the case before.
I tried to do a hardreset and this fixed the problem for a new days, now it appeared again.
The standby problem is only when the phone is turn on, but I do have good network coverage, so the phone is not always searching or something. I don't have GPRS connected, no bluetooth or something and didn't install new software, there are no additional tasks running in the background.
Actually I would like to wait for a german 1.72 ROM before a upgrade the nexttime ( current is 1.60 )
Does anybody has an idea ????
Help is greatly appreciated !!!!
Alex
Hi Alex,
i have experienced the same problem since several weeks.
I have made a hardreset, Firmware update to the actual o2 Version (1.66.01GER, 1.10.00 Radio), and so on without a better result.
I suppose that it could depend on the o2 Network.
Two weeks ago on vacation in foreign networks the standby time was o.k.
The o2 Hotline has no information about this phenomenon until now.
Regards
Markus
Arrgh ****...
I was in a "foreign" country for nine months... just when I came back it started...
It seems fixed after a hardreset for a day or so, then it starts again...
I tried this new ROM, it's simply horrible, was totaly unstable, I switch back to 1.60.
I also thought I could be related to the network... this would not be good.
I am here in the office on the boarder of my homezone, someday I have homezone, some not... (shouldn't be the case either )
But my other mobile also behaves strange, it switches ( with homezone indicator on !!! ) to t-mobile... even I have a strong O2 signal...
I think it's time to write a mail to customer support...
Alex
Bah... is a fantastic PDA, but I must charge the battery every 2 days...
I think is normal...
I had to recharge very second day... that's normal if you use your pda...
but we are talking about 8hours and less without using it !!!

Try switching on flight mode and see if it is better.
One thing I learned but not sure if it is scientific: don't xray scan your phone/pda when passing customs. My Siemems phone started behaving cranky when it gets scanned.
Lastly, if still as bad, suggest you send in to check it up. Hope just some problem with the battery.
Thanks.. but as I have allready written... when I turn flight mode on (same as turn the phone off) the battery is OK.
It has definitvely something to do with the radio.
The phone didn't get xrayed for a while now
Interference
It doesn't have to be an X-Ray machine Bro. Any form of frequency interference can screw your Xda's radio - but usually it will get back to normal after awhile (days) unless it is subjected to severe exposures.
What you can try to do is to goto Start-Settings-Personal-Phone-Network.
From Preferred Networks hit Set Networks - reprioritize.
Then under Network Selection change to Manual once the Xda gets hold of a signal switch back to Automatic.
Lastly check if your Broadcast Channels is enabled - disable it.
Worked for me after hours in the OR once - oops!

I have the very same problem for a few weeks now. Some more observations:
- power goes down at a rate of 1% every 12 minutes
- happens only with an O2 SIM. If I put in a D2 SIM, everything is fine
- happens with every O2 SIM - I tried three so far
- my O2 SIM works nicely in a friend's Himalaya
- bought a new battery - didn't help
- putting it right next to a speaker (so that you can hear all network activity) shows that there is not more activity than normal.
- problem is present with both 1.60ger and 1.66ger O2 firmware, with no software installed (i.e., directly after a hard reset)
I would be grateful for any tips or hints how to solve this! Also, if someone else experiences the same problem, please post here. Maybe it's a hardware problem, and the more people experience it, the easier it'll be to convince T-Mobile/O2 that there's a real problem.
Cheers
Daniel
News on this issue: I just flashed the Imate 1.72 ROM version, and at the moment it seems this resolved the problem. The 1.72 has a newer Radio ROM (version 1.14 rather than 1.10) than all 1.6x versions, so this could make the difference.
However, it is also possible that the effect is only temporarily gone, due to not having configured GPRS, SMS, whatnot for the O2 network yet, so it is too early to start partying...
And, of course, the OS is now English rather than German.
I will now leave my Himalaya alone for another few hours, just to confirm the problem is currently really gone, then I will start configuring it back to O2 settings, and add back all my software. This will take some time, as I want to check for the problem between all steps, and each check takes around one hour.
So, to all who suffer from the same problem: I suggest you wait a few more days before you upgrade. After I have finished my testing, I will post here again the results.
Let's hope 1.72 really does the trick!
Cheers

More news: I am now pretty sure that (again) the Homezone application is at fault!
The battery drain we experience roughly matches the power consumption of the CPU when not in a sleep mode. So, it seems the Homezone application prevents the CPU to go to sleep mode.
Why that used to work, and only started happening some weeks ago, I don't know. My guess is that O2 slightly changed the way they broadcast the location info. That location info is sent every few seconds via Cell Broadcast on channel 221, and as the Homezone application has to read that, it's quite plausible that it gets woken up every few seconds (whenever a new broadcast arrives).
What surprises me, though, is that there seem to be relatively few XDA II owners on O2 who experience the problem. I will send an email to O2 support and ask them.
In the meantime, to correct the problem, uninstall the Homezone application. To do so, do the following:
- deactivate the Homezone display, using the "Homezone" program
- using the file manager of your choice, go to the Windows directory, find the file "OHZ.dll", and rename it to whatever you like. This step is important!
- soft reset your XDA II
- go to "Einstellungen" -> "System" -> "Programme entfernen", and remove the program called "V2R Homezone"
- with your file manager, go to the Windows directory again and remove the renamed OHZ.dll file. If there is still a directory called "Windows\V2R\HZ", remove that also.
Of course, you lose the Homezone display. But you get full battery life back!

Okay, I'm trying to find out why not everybody on the German O2 network is affected.
Alex and Markus: I opened a thread for this over in the PPC-Welt forum, see here.
You are invited to come over and participate! If you are not interested, could you please let me know where exactly you are located? I live in Munich, and it might be that O2 misconfigured just a few base stations here in the south of Germany so that the Homezone application behaves erratically.
Thanks!
Daniel
Hi Tazido
Fu#$%^&*( is it really because it move to munich... arrgh.
I do live in Starnberg, but I spend the weekend in Ludwigshafen and here everything was OK.

As mentioned in a post in that other forum, everybody who is affected should call the O2 hotline and report this as a "network problem", to raise O2's awareness of the situation.
For the moiment, uninstalling the Homezone app is the best you can do. :-(
Cheers
Daniel
I did uninstall the O2 Homezone app.
I tried to mail to O2 but this seems not to work for some reason, I get a 403 error.
About calling the hotline, I have to pay for this, as I switch to the web-based contract with the free SMS, so as long as i doesn't get worse I can live...
Alex
I got a serious problem with this rom.
My xda2 hanged (can't switch on) twice and hard reset when I plugged the power supply.
Anybody had the same terrible experience.....
I suspected it's the bluetooth problem cause I started using my bluetooth headset again last few days....but not sure....anybody got some clue????
Cheers,
Chris
After upgrading to this .187 O2 ROM, My XDA II is really slow all over the place. I deleted the O2 Active User Interface thing and that seemed to stop it from being slow when turning it on and off.
Yeah, happenned to me too... hard reset twice in 2 days!!...just after upgrade to this rom...
My xdaii just didn't react to anything, not even the power button, so i did a soft reset... but it did a hard reset instead :s.
after that i changed to a belgian ROM (1.72 too) BUT kept the radio from the O2... and i wasn't able to send/receive sms after that, so i completeley installed the belgian rom to get rid of the O2 one.
see my post about it here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=12656
EDIT : looks like other people have a proble with the ON/OFF button under this rom... http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=12690 :| [/url]
The issue of the Xda II not responding to anything but hard reset happened to me two or three times, but I was on 1.60.44WWE.
The first time, I reinstalled almost everything to see if a particular program crashed the unit.
The second time, I narrowed it down to GPRS Tweak ... but still it happened.
The last time, I took out a program called SpaceReclaimer, that clears away cached & temporary files ... and this time, perhaps it was pure luck but the problem hasn't occurred since, it's been more than 6 months now.
I have no solutions, but just to share my experience and compare notes, perhaps the new ROM came with an app which messes with system files in background and causes this to happen. Well, at least that's what I suspected what happened to mine as I remember using SpaceReclaimer quite often before those hard resets.
Hi all,
I was wondering whether you have installed any program after the ROM upgrade or not? Coz I have no problem with my customized .187 ROM at all (what I have removed all UK O2 CABs, put some HK and AUS network settings and edited the config.txt). It works like a charm! The only 2 possible reasons I can think of for your problem would be 1) program(s) installed after ROM upgrade or 2) ROM is not correctly customized/upgraded. If worst comes to worst, phone is still messing up, try to do a SD-card ROM recover and redo the upgrade.
Hope my opinions can give you guys some hints on how to fix the problem.
Cheers!
6 month old O2 XDA2i only program loaded is TT5

Being used in corporate mode 0506 code
Here's the story... needed to use phone to call an ambulance for my fiance (she smashed her collar bone and now has a titanium plate and pins) 10weeks ago.. batt at 12% turned it on and caught the camera button whilst pressing the phone button. screen went all funny - vertical lines. Soft and Hard reset failed!!! had to fully charge before I could initiate a hard reset.
Some time after that the camera disapeared and media player started when camera button pressed. Camera missing from programs. Battery discharged at an alarming rate, you could watch it go flat!!!
Soft reset same problem
Hard reset and started running in corporate mode. All fine.
TT5 installed and it works fine although the it takes ages to find the GPS and sats compared with TT3. Same cables, gps and XDA, It also 'looses' signal where it didn't with TT3 and that is with two setups different cars. Almost as if the set up has gone deaf.
Camera disapeared again and battery going flat.
Hard reset
Camera goes again, this time I track it down to the windows folder and copy/paste the shortcut to programs.
Works for a bit then goes (battery ok now)
repaste it, it goes again
Hard reset all working fine.
worked well for a few weeks then I got a Jabra BT205.
Paired great, worked with TT5 great, calls great.
Then it stopped working with the phone, no TX/RX audio via BT205 just clicking. Tried soft boot, dropped all the pairings, re paired still no good.
Hard reset and its al back fine, headset ok TT5 ok (still deaf)
THEN I find I can recieve text messages, can reply BUT when I go New Text or click on messages it wont open, screen flashes and does nothing. nothing is shown as running in the memory bit. So I cant initiate a text message.
Hard reset and the same problem with texts, but now it will only get 75% of my address book from the back up. try to active sync to get the rest and it says it has done it but hasn't.
Hard reset again, still same problem with texts but gets all the address book from the backup. NOW it will only active sync as a guest.
I cant get it to do a full named sync.
Should I just take it back under warranty??
If you are going to suggest I do updates then great Ill do em BUT please talk me through them, post working links where I can get them. I just want it to work properly. I haven't got the time to continue to mess around with the thing. I need it to work, be reliable in doing what I want of it. Be a phone, be a camera, run TT5, run word and excel. Then it would be nice if I could be like others on here who have got em working. Have a film or some comedy on the SD card for the times when I have a moment to spare, even install some other software and games.
I want to do that but not continue to waste my time with unreliability, resets and the frustration of not being able to use it when a life is at risk!!
Thanks in advance
ARRGGHHH
Thanks for reading...... please help!!!!!
I have it running, address book ok, TT5 OK, programs run OK, BUT can't active sync as it will only come up as guest on my PC and I still can't initiate the messaging part ie MMS or Text.
I would try running it without any additional software. If it still displays this strange behaviour I would definitely return it for a replacement.
sounds like you have a faulty one to me try upgradeing the rom to the current image and for the gprs setting etc for o2 the a cab file somewhere on here that will install the settings for you do the upgrade and see how that goes if it still plays up then send it back
I would download the latest ROM from the O2 site and flash that and see if there is any improvement.
http://www.my-xda.com/xda2i_soft.html
ohhh
Thanks for that. I hope it's going to sort me out. How long have they been on the site?? Im sure I only checked the other day (but the way time's flying for my that could have been 2 months ago!!!)
ohhhh
well I have only soft reset once since the upgrade!!!! but that was when I was trying to switch between text message and readingthe setting to text the otherhalf
Hi,
i know this has came up alot, i was just wondering if anyone has found a fix for the xda exec crashing when a text is recieved. This does not happen to me often but it does happen and is quite annoying as the text is lost sometimes.
Also i find that sometimes when i leave my phone closed in clam shell mode overnight i wake up and open the phone but it seemed to be crashed. There was one night when my girlfriend sent me 3 txts during that night and she got delivery reports saying they were delivered, once i turnt my phone on in the morning it was frozen and i had to soft reset but didnt get any of her txts. Im now trialling to leave the phone on in standard pda mpde (screen facing out) overnight to see if it happens this way or not.
Michael
p.s: im using the standard rom that came with the phone
rom: 1.13.48
radio: 1.04.02
protocol: 42.37.P8
Yes the problem is very much there still. I have been using the Jasjar for almost 3 months now. During these 3 months this is my 2nd Jasjar and the problem is on both my units.
The chances of SMS freezing the Jasjar is more likely when the available RAM is below 17 MB. So what I am doing to reduces chances of this happening is to soft reset when the available RAM is below 18 MB. However this is still no gaurantee though it does reduce the chances of the Jasjar freezing upon receiving a text message.
This is a very annoying problem as this makes the whole thing so unreliable. You will never know that a text message has come through and caused your Jasjar to freeze till you need to use your phone again, and if during this period someone tries to contact you his call will not get through.
May I also mention that a few days back I also upgraded my Jasjar with the O2 ROM but the problem was still there. Furthermore I am convinced that this problem is not being caused by any 3rd party software. I can say so with confidence because I have hard rest several times and found the problem to be there even when no third party software was installed.
My only hope is now a ROM upgrade which I heard is due in December. I this does not solve the problem at least for me I can say that I am quitting and the Nokia 9500 will be my next phone.
Regards
@mho,
which mode are you using. I had the SMS freezing problem with my JJ but with my Exec in Corporate mode I have not suffered this. However, I have noticed that since I downloaded the latest ROM from the O2 my Exec is less stable then with the original ROM!
i am using the corporate mode, its mroe stable than the basic mode but upon recieving ssm it still crashes.
i think im going to call o2 today and ask them to change my phone. I thinking of samsung sgh-i300 now.
such a shame cos i really like the exec, if i didnt need a reliable txt function so much i wouldnt really care about it.
When I tried the O2 ROM on my i-mate Jasjar I also opted for the corporate mode and this still did not solve the text message freeing problem. I therefore shifted back to the original i-mate Jasjar ROM
Regards
Did you guys have Pocket Informant or TCMP + ffdshow/ac3 codec pack installed by any chance?
My SMS was perfectly fine until yesterday I installed the above, and upon receiving an SMS my exec (corp) hung...
Hard resetting now...

I have TCMP installed and running on the original corporate ROM and NEVER had the crash upon receiving SMS.
When I had my JJ I did get the freezing problem with receipt of a SMS - but I was also using Pocket Informant. On my Exec on Corp mode I don't use Pocket Informant but use Agenda Fusion and have never suffered the SMS issue. Looks like it could be a third-party app (I also may have used a Today screen plug-in on my JJ, which I don't use anymore) causing the SMS problem.
OK this is starting to peeve me..... hard reset, didn't install TCMP, only installed PI trial and SMS hang issue is back...argh!
no, i had no 3rd party apps and it still hung. I think someelse also didnt have any 3rd party apps and had this problem too.
thx mho... I'll test it out for a day or two more and if it still hangs I'm calling O2. I have a suspicion that it's an issue to do with the memory leaks, probably due to filehandles not being closed when accessing an SD card with LOTS of files in it.
Happening again after being ok for 2 days... calling O2 today...
Yes it is true... I am having same prob too... Even after hardreset without any 3rd party applications, after a while after softreset, my phone does freeze... Some time I am not even able to read the message.
Not sure how scientific this is - but I had the 'crash on SMS' quite a bit in the first week or so of using my Exec.
The first time it happened, I thought it might be to do with insufficient resources, so I regularly closed down background tasks and did occasional soft-resets to 'clean it up'. This didn't seem to make much difference.
HOWEVER, this week I've basically just made sure POutlook is actually running at all times, and I've not had a single problem.
When I fancy the old 'close all tasks' if I've got a load of apps running in the background - I just follow it with a swift press of the "envelope" button.
It SEEMS to be working!

Except I spoke too soon. Graaagh.
Came back to a flashing orange LED, opened up to see, and the thing had frozen.
doh!
I had the SMS freeze problem with my JJ now I only have it with email download over GPRS. Unfortunately a lot of Universal fans here don't think there are any problems with the Universal while the rest of us are trying to find workarounds. A bit annoying really.
It must be from the service provider, because someone already tested it after a hard reset with nothing installed and still getting these SMS freezes. It could also be the phone. It is hard to pinpoint because I don't see any Cingular-USA complaining of SMS freezing. As most Universal users are in the UK.
If it's any consolation.....happens to me once in a while too.....don't think it could be the network.....but maybe some O2 files??
no freeze but SMS just not received
see my post - only receiving some SMS - this is related to an XDA 2i
on O2 network
the more I trail this forum for SMS issues the more I am concerned that this is a serious bug with the phone.
I have done extensive troubleshooting on this and can confirm that it is a) not related to any loaded SW or backup, b) happening on nearly all XDA derivates to some extend, C) is mainly related to the unit trying to "wake up" (which is normal for SMS receive). Pattern seems to be that combined with a weak signal the XDA wakes up, looses network, re-aquires but the receive failed. The confirmation that the message was received is however already deliverd as the XDA woke up. I can re-create this behaviour at will now. If you send two messages within a short time frame the Second message only will be received. So it is definitely related to the unit waking up.
My XDA was with O2 for repair twice and no change in behaviour. they have agreed to exchange - but see above - form the posts here I think that it is a general problem with the unit
Hi all,
In need of some help here... :-( Got my replacement Uni all setup back how I like it and my boss finally signs off the paperwork to get Blackberry enabled on my phone. O2 eventually got it all setup and I start to receive email, however am having some problems.
1. If I turn the PDA off (or it turns itself off as battery saving) then Blackberry seems to quit and won't restart without a soft reset. Obviously not very useful
2. When Blackberry is running it doesn't display any notifications for other events (such as the alarm clock, new text messages, calendar notifications etc) which means I can't cancel them so when I soft reset my phone I get 5 minutes odd of the phone ringing, and MemMaid doesn't seem to be able to get rid of them
3. Not a Blackberry issue but my phone just completely stops working at 72% battery life, bearing in mind this is a replacement provided by O2 and is supposedly brand new do I need to do anything likefully discharge the battery in boot mode or something like that.
I remember reading something but browsing the forum over GPRS is a bit painful so please if someone knows the right thread if you could reply to this would really appreciate it, won't be back near a proper net connection for about 6 days so stuck with GPRS for the moment (not got a 3G enabled SIM yet, meant to have but O2 sent one which wasn't and are now taking an age to sort it out).
Thanks
G
