phone security - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

I saw something on here a while ago about inserting an application so that if your phone is stolen and a new SIM inserted, the phone will automatically send a text to a number you have designated.
If anyone has any knowledge of what it is and how it is set up I'd appreciate it.
as always thanks in advance.

The only annoying thing about my XDA II

I'm trying to find a way around taking my work of art breeze block down town on a night out, but I need a phone. Is anyone else in this situation. Ok, so I could buy a payg sim card and stick it in an old unused phone, but then telling everyone I have a different number etc. :x Or, maybe I could divert my calls to another number instead of my answerphone :?:
One of these days i'm gonna leave it in a taxi, fall down and bust it or have it nicked. Any ideas much appreciated
Why not just put your XDA II's SIM card in an unused phone for the night, then when you're done put it back in the XDA II? Thats way u keep the same number and your XDA II stays safe at home
Because it means removing the battery, thus hard resetting and that means having to set up all my gprs settings, install tomtom again, bla bla bla and i can't be bothered to do it every week
Is it possible to forward calls to a certain number?
Removing the battery for a seccond or two doesnt hard reset the phone (or at least it shouldnt) if your really scared though ... do a full backup before ya take the battery out.
The Phone should retain the settings for 20mins (thats what they quote anyway)

Yeah, what I used to do was have a cheapy phone that was easily pocketable (like the V3 Razr) and a payg sim card in it. Just divert all calls to the Razr's number while you're out.
Get home and then next morning when you remember cancel the diversion.
Easy.

Here (Belgium) we can get a sim duplicate (with the same number) for use in car systems etc. But only one can be "on" at a time. so put you XDA in flight mode and turn your small/cheap mobile on or vice versa.
Don't know which one stays connected when you turn both on. the first one connected or the last.
cheers guys. Can we get duplicate sims from service providers in this country??[/quote]

Problem there is that the service provider will charge YOU for the diverted call!

I wonder what would happen if you phoned your SP and said the sim got broken. Would they send you a duplicate, with the same number etc? Might be worth it if they do.
IF not you can duplicate with a blank SIM and software bundle (LINK), a SIM editor (LINK). Check eBay. But from what I have heard it is not easy, takes a long time, and not always successful!
I might try the first option!
If you call your SP, and told them your SIM is broken, they would cancel the serial number (or whatever unique ID inside the chip) and activate the new serial number of the new chip and link it with your account ID. Well, that's what they do here in Canada. two SIMs for one account is feasable, but the two SIMs must have different ID's. If not, there's a big problem with the secirity of the network that offers it.
On O2 you cannot have 2 sims registered on the account. I reccomend either using call divert or just putting your sim in another phone.

Caller Id not working, hardware issue?!?!

Hi,
Since a few weeks back my Trinity always shows Unknown as the user id of the incoming call.
At the beginning I thought it was Rom related, since I've been messing around with Mary's and Axel's roms. But I went back to the official one with same result.
I must admit that I have dropped the Trinity a couple of times. So I was wondering if anybody knows if this functionality is sofware or hardware related (maybe I damaged sth when dropping it?!?!)
Or maybe is some registry setting?!?!?
Any thoughts greatly appreciated!!
Thanks,
Elsral
I had the same problem before though i didn't update any ROM. Try downloading your telco settings again. (Network Wizard).
caller id is a service of your provider so if you disable it once il will always be disabled, whatever rom or phone you use
you can reactivate it in the settings>phone>service
Hi,
thanks both for your input.
I went to settings/phone/callerid/ and set to show to everyone.
However, I think this is only for the reverse process, to show your number to the person you are calling.
However, I still don't know who is calling me. Any other Ideas?
thanks,
elsral

Bump.
I've exactly the same problem since the beginning of january.
All the incoming voice calls are "unknown", no number is displayed.
But incoming SMS are ok, the sender number is correctly displayed.
I've reinstalled my network provider settings (Orange F), with no success.
Someone has a solution ?
Thanks.
try your sim card in another phone. i suspect your operator disabled it. you may want to give them a call.

You were right. It's same problem with my sim card in another phone.
I've called my network operator, he reset the parameters of my line, and it works now.
Thanks.

Hello, yesterday i bought my new phone and i flashed directly the hspl and a custom rom and radio.
Then i tried to send sms but i could not, i could only receive!.
Then i unistalled hspl and flashed shipped rom but the problem remains.
Could this be hardware program?
My sim works normally with my old phone.
Any solution or idea?
Thanks in advance!!

No they are not there, and i have a notice from my phone that the message cannot be sent.
in the start menu theres usually an icon like a sim card, usually with your operators name. try running that to get settings
also try...
settings tab - menu - all settings - connections
and see if you have a connection setup in there (also to get settings)
I had this issue when I first got my HD2. I'm not saying yours is the same cause but I had my problem on the day my old number had been ported to the new phone. I was able to receive texts but couldn't send. I contacted o2 and they told me I wouldn't be able to send texts for the rest of that day right up to midnight. The next day everything was fine and dandy.
This problem was solved and i must report this.
The problem was that my sim card was too old!!
So old sim cards do not work properly.

Why would you want to edit it? It gets your number from the SIM.

Oh.
That's weird.. is it reporting the IMEI?
After looking around it seems that the sim sometimes isn't programmed with its own number until you register it with your provider.. is this a new sim or one from a different network?

Hi mate neither it is the sim provided with the phone.
Yes the IMEI number is displaying
thanks for your efforts so far
Just contact your provider by phone. I had to do this with mine just a few weeks ago. They will tell you to shut off the phone then they will send a signal to the phone, etc. It only takes a minute or two.
Hope this helps.
Does it matter?
i.e., if the phone works, then nothing is accomplished by messing with this.

Network problem

Hi.
I am having a problem with my network connectivity. I get the "Emergency calls only" message in the notification bar and I am unable to make or receive phone calls or messages. Wifi works though. When I restart my phone, I have connectivity for about 30 seconds before it disappears again. I have done a factory reset and upgraded to the marshmallow firmware, but nothing worked. My sim card works in another phone, but with another sim card in my P8, I get the same issues.
I am someone that always tries to fix something before throwing it away, but this repair might just be beyond my skills.
Does anybody know what the problem might be? Any assistance will be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

No. I have had it for a few months and it was working perfectly until Friday.
And I also don't have a guarantee, as I am not the first owner of the phone.

I did. I just found out that I have to take my phone for repairs. The sim card reader has apparently gone bad according to the local cellphone shop. But thanks for the assistance anyway.
