Hey there!
i created a pan, with the toshiba drivers on my mda and the normal windows xps on my desktop.
now what i do not understand is the difference in speed:
when i connect usb and transfer a file over PAN, then i get a speed of about 1200 kbit
when i transfer a file over activesync with usb i have a speed of about 500 kbit
when i transfer with bluetooth and PAN, and then transfer a file over PAN, then the speed drops to about 200 kbit
that speed is also the same for only a PAN connection.
does anyone has a clue, why there is such a big difference?
Thanks,
Gringo
So you're usig the Toshiba bluetooth stack on the Magician?
yes i do. it bugs sometimes but i want the PAN connection.
Actually, Bluetooth is a lot slower than USB so the difference in speed between BT and USB should not be a surprise. Also, Activesync is not known to be very effective and probably has a lot of overhead.
ok thanks for your answer!

From another thread... i've just been told xdaII doesn't have Wi-fi as i first presumed.
Can someone suggest the best way to access the net through my home adsl router? Would bluetooth be my best bet?
Can you recommend specifically which equipment will work... since there are so many issues at the moment as to what works and what doesn't.
Thanks!!

put i-mate in usb cradle, hook up cradle to PC. i-mate uses PC's network connection.
Outside of that you'll either be springing for a usb/bt dongle (which I haven't seen any posts of anyone using) or a WiFi SD card. Can't think of any other options off the top of my head.
As you have mentioned earlier, you have already wired up your whole home with wif-, and presumably have a wi-fi access point.
The best route would thereofre be to add a wi-fi card to your xda2, such as the Socket Wireless LAN (WiFi) SD Card. This will give you better speeds than bluetooth, and you will not have to worry about profiles etc.
Just my 2c

I use a Belkin USB bluetooth dongle, and using the ActiveSync passthrough you can then browse the web on the XDA within the range of the dongle. You can get dongles with a 100m range, which should be plenty within a house.
Only trouble is, being ActiveSync, it it pot luck whether you can establish a link or not. Once you've established the link, it works quite well, though not flawlessly. It's also quite slow. Not as slow as GPRS, but not exactly snappy either. I don't know whether this is down to PIE, the bluetooth, or the ActiveSync. Most likely the latter.
Ideally, you'd use a bluetooth access point, but I'm not sure the XDA will work with that due to the absence of an appropriate protocol.
Thanks for the replies... I know what you mean onepieceman... activesync if driving me crazing
Wi-fi seems my best bet since usb seems to be incredibly slow at downlaoding a page.... thanks for the recommendations surur and graah.
don use WiFi at home! use BT
I've got both BT dongle and WiFi sdio setup at home.
The BT is actually to a notebook which is WiFi'd to my ADSL to inet...
The WiFi is faster, but:
1. the BT actually gave me better range! (I got the 100m one from Belkin)
2. the WiFi is a pig ( P I G ) on the battery.
3. the WiFi takes up my SD porn-movies slot
if you setup activesync to only do the sync MANUALLY (you have to
tell it both on the PC and on the XDA to sync manually) then
establishing BT pass-thru is much easier/faster
The internet is kinda slow on the XDA, I think probably because
MS's pocket IE is just bad. I don't think the TCP/IP works correctly
or that it opens enough connections in parallel to get the GIF's
and stuff. The network/BT/WiFi and the hardware (128Mb/400Mhz)
is much faster than what IE/Microsoft gives us.
But what do you expect from the 640Kb is enough company, that
did it again with 32 ****ing processes?!
There is also the option of XDA CF jacket

thanks mgolanlan... does this mean the net speed is going to be on par with the usb speed? - usb was incredibly slow ... if so i may as well not bother with net access all together
usb1.1 is 12Mb /sec
if your ADSL is faster then that you are pretty lucky
Hi,
i can't connect my laptop with trinity as bt modem!!?? Usb cable connection works fine, but I want to make it without wires, anyone knows how!!???
I can't find usb bt modem for trinity! I can't remember how but s200 works fine as br modem, also Ive seen another posts about this but withous answer!!
Thanks!

I am not very knowledgable about mac's but you should understand that the P3600 does not support Bluetooth DUN connection. You can only use it as a gateway through the Bluetooth PAN connection or via a USB cable connection.
In order to do this you must use the shared internet connection on your P3600. You can then choose to connect your mac to your P3600 via a USB cable or a Bluetooth PAN connection. Then you must select the connection your P3600 will use to connect to the internet, this is usually a GPRS/EDGE or a UMTS/HSDPA connection. The selection of both connections is done from a drop-down menu so you can't really miss it.
Good luck

I succeded, connected devices via bt, it finaly works , problem was in pc control panel, bt network was disabled......
but now, here is new problem, my bt network speed is only 700 kbs!!???
Why?
Hdspa goes to 1.8 mbit/s, on my network I've seen max. 1.3 mbit/s, but with 700kpbs it's unusefull!!!???
any help!??
Regards!

Use a cable instead of bluetooth.
What is the Bluetooth Stack you are using?
I had the same problem at first. 700kb/s BT PAN connection yet I had a BT 2.0 dongle.
I was using the widcomm version 5.0.1.1100 drivers at the time.
I recently upgraded my drivers to version 5.0.1.2500 and now the connection indicates a speed of 2.1 Mb/s, it's still not the rated 2.5-3.0 EDR speed but it's much better.

my driver is 4.0.1.3300! Where have you find 5.xxxxx driver!!??
i looked in so many forums but with no luck... how do i connect ics between my htc touch and my laptop through bluetooth?. is it free like the usb based one? how is the speed compared?
THANKS
If both the devices are BT 2.0 with EDR you can expect about 1MB of transfer rate, which is good but is a low speed if you compare it with the USB transfer rate.
Via USB i can download from internet at average speed of 590 MBps (almost 5 Mbps)
how do i connect my pc to the ics on my pda through bluetooth though
Do the pairing between the pc and the smarphone, then (on the SP) go to the app internet sharing, choose the correct data profile an the bt mode, then on the pc go to "connections" > BT connections and click connect.
If you have a BT stack different from the M$ stack the procedure may vary a little. (usually the lan BT connection is called PAN or NAP)
Hi,
Just looking for some advice on a problem with my HD2. Am having significant problems with the bluetooth, which I suspect may be caused by a fault in the phone.
Bluetooth works, but the speed of file transfers is incredibly slow. Have performed different tests, using different PC's, and different ROM's with essentially the same results.
Bluetooth file transfer speed varies, depending on the device it is connected, between 7-60 KB/s, and fluctuating wildly. The same test using a Nokia phone and same PC's yielded file transfer speeds between 90-110 KB/s. This slow performance seems to degrade the clarity of sound when using a bluetooth headset (Nokia BT-214).
I have used the latest standard HTC ROM, and the latest of Dutty's ROM's, and both produce essentially the same result. I have read that there are some problems arising out of the Widcomm stack, not working as well as the MS one, but have seen no posts indicating anyone having as significant problems as I am having.
Advice please.
I just tried and with some little tweaks from "HD2 tweaks 1.3" program, I have a sustained 110 to 120 KB/s. You can try that
Thanks for the reply, and help attempt. I tried this, and unfortunately it did not make any improvement, still very slow.
I get 90-120kB/s too, without any particular tweak.
What would be interesting to know is whether you have a particularly active WLAN in the area, wireless security cams or such around you...
As an example, if I start a BT transfer ftom the PC to the phone via BT, and then start transferring a big file from my laptop to my PC via WLAN, transfer speeds on BT will fall to 40kB/s or so.
Thanks for your thoughts on this. Just tried a file transfer with WiFi both enabled and disabled, produced exactly the same in terms of file transfer speed: 50 KB/s.
This is incredibly frustrating. I have sent a message to HTC asking them if they think it a phone fault or not, and am awaiting a reply.
So MTP is unreliable and not always fast, wireless transfer with AirDroid and the like isn't always reliable or really fast, Mi Drop and other FTP solutions are in the same bag. I really miss the old USB mass storage mode, as it is fast and allows proper file management.
I stumbled upon this section under developer settings (default USB connection mode or sth like that), but I have yet to try it. The first option appears to be just regular MTP, what would MIDI be?
And what are your other suggestions for the fastest or smoothest file management between the phone and a PC?
FTP over AC wifi is my way to go for transferring files, i get around 40 MB which is fast enough for me, that is probably the speed limit for the memory used for this phone, because i get much higher speed on my laptop.
By the way i'm using Solid explorer built in ftp client to connect to an HDD (shared using ftp and samba) by my router
I have not yet installed USB driver on Windows Laptop.
With WLAN 802.11n connection over MyPhoneExplorer 1.8.12 to RN7 Hotspot (2.4 Ghz) I get transfer rates of 5-6 MB/s. 5 Ghz Hotspot seems not supported by my Laptop.
I could connect USB-C 2.0 (OTG) loading cable to either USB 2 or USB 3 on the Laptop.
Is it even possible to reach 20-30 MB/s over USB (like for external Drives connected trough USB2) or at least substantially better then 5-6 MB/s over the WLAN I have?
After applying a trick in Device Manager I was able to intall the USB MTP Driver.
I tried the transfer of a 1.7 GB file and the speed was 16-20 MB/s, so better then WLAN on the RN7 device.
