imate Jam loses audio, alerts, etc.. - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

My Jam occasionally loses all sound. I mean everyting from alerts to the phone itself. It would only work if I plugged in my headset. I tried checking my headset and the contact in the jam, everything was OK.
Anybody experienced this? Does anyone know how to fix it?
Thanks.

Where are your tones placed? In the device or in the card?

I lost audio, all of it not just alerts

I think I know it. Same thing happened to my jam too.
Your jam does not recognize that u unplug your headphone.
Problem is; there's a little switch in your headphone socket, when you plug your headset it turns off the internal sound, and when u unplug it should normally turn on the internal sound. But if the switch is locked, jam does not recognize that u unplug your headphone.
My solution is, plug-unplug your headset's plug (or something thinner) several times in different angles carefully to your socket while your jam is playing something. Till u hear the sound.
Mine is ok now. And I don't use any 3. party plug adaptors anymore.
(sorry bout my bad english. hope u got it.)

I have the same problem with my MDA Compact. The plugging in and out of the headphone didn't help much either.
It's hard to tell whether it's the headphone "switch" or the external speaker that is broken. Is there a software for PPC that can recognise whether there is a headset plugged in or not? This would help identifying the problem.

I think there are 2 external speakers. One is at the back, the louder speaker. The other is at the front, active during a phone call.
If they are both down, it seems to be a switch problem.
-btw, when I was having the same problem, I lost the mic too..
Did you use only the original headset or some other plugs?

I only lost sound from the external speaker at the back. Everything else was working fine. As you correctly pointed out, if it was a switch problem I wouldn't have been able to make calls using the front speaker as the sound would directed to the headset. In my case it's the speaker )at the back) itself that is the proble. I have now sent it back for repair...
... and I have to wait for 14 looong days before I get it back, and that's excluding delivery time!

Desperate Help Needed, Audio Fault On My Wizard ;-(

well this one has me totally baffled!!
went out yesterday with my wizard and everything was fine, all audio was working prefectly! on the bus i plugged in my hands free kit to listen to a little music, that was fine..
when i got off the bus i unplugged the headset and for some reason the audio on the wizard was not working, no clicks, no music playing when i opened media player, almost as if it was on mute!
i thought to myself, maybee the speakers are bust?.. but when somebody rings me the speakers kick in and sound works perfectly! but only when people ring me,
BIG PROBLEM IS: if i answer the sound dosent work and neither does the microphone, as if the headset is still plugged in.
if i plug in the headset, the mic and headphones work perfectly for calls.
SO YET AGAIN!! I THOUGHT TO MYSELF: maybee the wizard is registering that the headset is constantly plugged in even though it isnt, or something is jammed in the headset socket.
BU NO!, if that was the case then when the phone rings the loudspeaker wouldnt be ringing too would it...
I AM OFICIALLY TOTALLY BAFFLED! have hard reset the phone 4 times, soft reset countless times!! i have no idea *CURRENTLY USING THE NEWEST QTEK ROM*
if anyone has any ideas i would be most greatfull!!!!!!! CHEERS A;LL!!!!
are u using bt ?
then try btaudio to tunnel audio through and no bt
dont use bluetooth at all, and its a good solution, but i still wouldnt have my good old audio back propperly i dont think,
there are just times when i like to sit my pone on my desk and play movies/music, or actually take a call and not have to plug in my headset everytime just to talk to someone lolol
its driving me nuts lol
ive tried re flashing the phone to its base tmobile rom, the qtek one and the o2 one now and still the same problem, so im guessing its hardware somewhere down the line.
any suggestions?
I have the exact same problem i believe and have found no solution. I didn't use the hands free set though. Just one night while charging, the main speaker stopped working on my 9100. Been like that for probably 2 months now.
Speakerphone, bluetooth headset and wired headset still work.
when wired headset is plugged in, it wont switch to speaker phone. When its not plugged in, it will, so I know its not just thinking the headset is plugged in still.
why are you complaining here ... return the device, it has warranty..
Hi
I had the exact same problem with my Magician (not had it with the Wizard yet). The problem is something to do with plugging the Handsfree kit in. when you unplug it, the little catch inside the 2.5mm hole does not flip back across so the device still thinks that the Handsfree is plugged in.
What i did to sort this was to wiggle a large paper clip inside the hole and it sorted it.
I hope this is the same problem
Thanks

Help! Big problems with all audio!

Hi
First post here so please excuse any ignorance.
O2 XDA Exec - standard Rom from O2 website.
Problem started a few hours ago after using the audio out for listening to music via mediaplayer.
My unit was working fine while playing, but later after it had been disconnceted from the stereo I noted that there were no tap sounds.
I first checked the audio settings, all normal the way I always have them.
Next I tried the reset button on the back of the unit, no help there.
I tried plugging in the headphones in and there is perfectly normal audio over the headphone but once removed nothing at all.
Getting more extreme I tried a rom update/fresh start, no luck there either.
Getting even more hardcore I downloaded the assembly/disassembly pdf from this forum to check if there was a physical fault with the 3.5mm audio port. I checked to make sure all the tabs were springing back after an audio jack was removed all seem fine (although at this point I lack a comparision).
Then for a test I rang my own phone from my land line and it seems to ring fine but there is nothing from the mic or either of the earpieces during a call.
I am fast running out of ideas and the last test really perplexed me.
I am almost certain that it is a case of one of the contacts inside the audio port not springing back and therefore cutting out the external audio, giving the device the impression that there is still a headset connected.
I don't want to poke around inside too much as I have so far been able to keep security tabs intact, just in case I need to send it off.
Anybody have any ideas on how to get around this? Is it possible that it is software and not hardware?
Please help as phone is a bit useless sans headset, which I don't really want to be permanetly tied to.
Thanks
Thom
keep plugging and unplugging the headset until it works or you get tired, if it works great, otherwise sent it in for repair.
Does nobody out there have a registry hack workaround for this problem?
When I receive calls its rings and any other sounds come through whilst the phone rings.
There must be a workaround here somewhere???
Had exactly the same problem. No sound but rings ok,
After the first time I plugged in the headphones, no sound. Its probably cause the headphone socket is so big in comparisson, that it gets dirty. Just spray some anti static cleaner on the headphone plug and keep plugging it in.
Worked perfectly for me!!
There is no registry hack because this is a hardware issue, not a software one.
The ringer will ring whether the earphones are plugged in or not, which is how you would expect a phone to function. The problem lies with the connectors in the headphone jack socket not recognising the headphones are unplugged. Resetting and even dare I say a hard reset will not sort it as the issue is not software related.
This has also been covered several times on the forum. The only way (short of taking the thing apart) is to keep plugging / unplugging the headphones until the sound reappears.
Cheers
Ant
This just started happening on my JasJar today (system audio returned after poking the headset in/out a few times), after 11 months of use. Does this get worse over time? Should I bite the bullet and try to get Imate to repair it?
Please advise!

Audio not working - i'd be really grateful if anyone could offer assistance

Hi there
This is my second O2 mini-XDA. The sound on the phone doesn't seem to want to work anymore. I can't hear alarms, hear anything making phone calls. It happened once before with this phone and seemed to go away by itself. I've got some important data on the phone so I'd love to not have to send it in. Anyone have any ideas about how to sort it?
Cheers
immy
Try if you got the sounds thru a headset..
It's possible that the microswitch inside the headphone connector is stuck.
I had the same problem. When I inserted mij headphone a few times it was solved.
The microswitch is for switching of your speakers and activate your headset.
Good luck
volume bubble
tap volume icon on start bar and turn the volume to on!
I had the same issue with the original Imate XDA. There is an issue with some of the HTC phones in which the cable of the speaker is broken. The easiest way to check it is to connect a headset and then see if it is working or not. If the sound is still not working, then you will need to replace the D2A audio chip. Is your phone under warrenty?
Regards,
A very common problem - had the same problem (fortunately, my PDA is still under warranty and, therefore, it was repaired for free). The chip that switches between the wired headset and the three built-in speakers just died and had to be swapped.
Some other people also state this can also be caused by using the wired headset, which causes shortouts when you insert / remove it.

HTC3600 has stopped to make any sounds..

Hello,
i have a problem with my device: it has stopped to make sounds (as the click on selections, the music from a mp3, the ring of a call) i can hear the voice of the speaker in a phone call. But i can listen to everything if i put the headset on. It seems like the device is switched in "headset mode" turning off the main speaker. When i plug and unplug the headset i can hear (sometimes) the sound to come back, just to shut off the second later.
I've tried soft and hard reset and i've even installed the news rom: once installed it seems to work properly.. but this morning is "mute" again..
anyone would help this poor guy?
thanks in advance!
Execus me for this question, but I have to exclude the obvious. Did you try raising the volume utilizing the speaker icon on the top bar?
The volume is at the max and all the sounds are enabled.

Are you using any siftware which might conflict with the OS?
Test the volume with no software installed and BOTH sliders at the maximum (UP)position, also bear in mind that the installed windows media player has a volume slider of its own.
Sadly not: the problem is still there even after an hardware reset, without any other software installed. And if i plug the headset i can hear everything, so the volume is up.
It seems like the device is finding the headset even if they are not plugged, thus turning the main speaker off.
...maybe a broken loudspeaker...
I'm afraid to say this , but before to have my trinity I experienced a similar problem with my old JAMin , were the loudspeaker suddenly stopped working and only with a new one ( loudspeaker) I recovered the correct " voice" of the device.
in this case it seems to be the same , but to be sure you should be able to mesure the impedance of it ; normally should be around 30 ohms ...
when mine was broken , it was completely "open" ....
but to do this you have to open the device !!!!
I'm sorry , any other idea...

From what you say i think we can safely rule out the loudspeaker being damaged(you wouldn't have been able to hear anything ,not even for a second), it's more than likely that your problem has to do with the miniusb audiojack which might be shorting out,the only thing you can do before taking the device to a service center is insert a miniusb cable in the jack and carefully move it sideways and up and down, this might resolve the issue.

And... sucking the jack... although this might gives a too strong picture of how much you love your trinity
Thanks a lot,
moving the jack seems to solve the issue sometimes..
I was wondering: are there any settings on the registry to avoid the use of the headset: maybe if i can set the device to never use the headset the problem with the switch could be bypassed...
lost sound
well my trinity just did the same thing.
Was working fine one minute, then suddenly no sound. Plug in the headset and it works fine, but without the headset I can connect to a call but i can not hear the other person and strangely they cannot hear me. Seems like my phone is stuck in headset mode somehow.
Haven't done a hardrest yet, but i guess thats next . . .

Seriously broken sound!!

I have no idea what caused this (no drops recently) but would REALLY appreciate some help as my phone is really useless at the moment.
Presently, absolutely NO sound comes out of my phone at any point, via speakers or headphones, except during calls, where i can hear the other person but they cant hear me, i.e. microphone isnt functioning.
I have no idea what causes this, I have done a hard reset and inserted and removed headphones many times.
I should clarify that by absolutely no sound, I mean nothing on the phone works sound wise. You can in fact hear a really faint clicking/popping sound occasionally, but its grey noise, its not really quiet versions of what the sound is meant to be.
Many thanks if anyone can help!
I also made a brief voice recording on the phone and copied it to my PC to find it was blank, so microphone doesnt work outside of a call either.
.. summary: mic broken, speakers only work in a call.
Help?
Bump! Please?
try pairing with a bluetooth headset, you should be ok ... seems your sound driver is corrupt, did you by any chance increrase the preamp a lot in tcpmp and play sound for a while before experiencing this?
Cheers for the reply!
I hadn't done anything out of the ordinary like you mentioned, it just stopped working. I have done a hard reset, wouldnt that sort out a bad sound driver?
And, as far as I know I have no access to a bluetooth headset, why would that be any different anyway?
Is there any chance a rom reflash could help? I'm at last resorts here, I'm thinking about buying a palm!! (for budget reasons)
I will try it if it could work, trouble is the usb port is very dodgy, dis- and re-connects very often, so that could be dodgy for a reflash?
:'( !!
also mine is off!! just hearphone works, but built-in speakers are dead!
PLEASEEE help me!!
same problem occured to me...
if you were using a normal headset and after you plugged it out the sound started to break apart then do the following:
1-turn your media player on and start playing any audio file while volume is at MAX...
2-try to plug it in first and then test if the sound comes out of the headset normally...
3-then plug the heasdset out of the device (not all of it keep some of the jack inside the headset hole) do that in slow motion....yes...in slow motion and try to focus in making the sound goes out of the headset and the device at the sametime....
4-if you managed to make the sound BLOWS OUT from the speakers then the problem is because you plugged out the headset too quickly which generated a shock (actually i dont know if that's the accurate definition)
5- try to twist the headset jack left and right and plug it out gentely while the sound is still going out of the speakers...
and thats it...
hope your device will get well soon
