I need to get hold of any info regarding the current GSM cell - ideally Cell ID or name of the tower.
Thanks.

I have the vogue (cdma) sprint version on a different carriers network. It works ok but reception has always been poor and I drop alot of calls. I do have my current carriers prl so at least its going after the right towers. My provider is going to release this phone and if I could get a hold of one for 10 minutes I could grab the qcn file off of it and use qpst rf nv manager to write it too my phone. Am I way out in left field on this one? Would this improve my reception? I believe the qcn file tells the phone when to hand off to different cell towers and how to do it.

have you tried switching to roam only if you have the new rom here is the attatched reg hack cab... install to the device and wait about a minute then soft reset then it should be an option in your
Start>Settings>Phone>Options>
roaming settings... try roaming and see if you get better service
I will give that a shot thanks.
Hello Seniors,
Wanted to know that is there any application which will show the signal strength (in some number) of all the network provider in my area.
Say, I have a Vodafone sim and in my area there are 5-6 different operators. So is there any way where I can check that in my house, out of all the mobile providers whose signal is the strongest?
So I am looking for a tool which will check the strength of all and then I can come to some conclusion.
Again, there is no network signal map which is available in my area, so need to depend on some app or some software etc.
Looking forward for your guidance.
Regards,
Anoop.
There is an app called as Network Info II on the playstore. It gives you the strength of the signal for the sim that is currently registered thru the phone on the network.
It wont give for other available networks..
May be somebody else can suggest some other app..

I'm looking to change my mobile provider (in the UK), but want to check the relative signal strengths of each network provider accessible from my house, to avoid choosing a provider that has poor reception when I'm at home. Can anyone recommend an app that will scan for all cell/3G signals in the area and show (a) who the provider is and (b) how strong the voice and data signals are?
I've got access to coverage maps but they seem to be notoriously inaccurate/unreliable, and also don't give specific information for an exact location (i.e. a specific premises).

If your phone is unlocked you can go into network settings and scan for all available networks, this will at least give you an indication of who is available, however, I do not believe an app exists that can give you specifics about any network other than the one you are on.
If you look online, most of the operators are offering free PAYG sim cards, perhaps you could send off for these and try each one in your phone to see who gives best reception, they should all register on the network even if they have no credit on them, at least that's my understanding.
Hi,
First of all I would like to thank ro all of you who keep this great forum.
It has teached me a lot about android system.
I have an DEFY +/ android 4.3.1/ kernel 2.6.32.9 AeroKernel/ Cyanogem 10.2.2014523 nightly
I need to see the cell area info in my defy+.
I know my operator broadcasts it through cell broadcast channel 50.
In Settings - Wireless & Networks (more) menu I find cell broadcast settings.
I has an option for Brazil´s channel 50 but it does not work.
I installed an appk for it (Cell Area Broadcast Info) but it did not work either.
I also installed my chip in 2 other cell phones and cell area info was ok, so the problem is in my cell phone
Any help?
Maybe a baseband problem? Did you change it?

My operator works with 1800 and 2100
I can´t find that in band selector.
I've been using cell tower location aware apps for years. I just got the Z, and all of a sudden Llama can't find any cell towers even when connected. If the phone is set to "global" or "CDMA" none of the cell polling/cell ID locating apps work. I have to select GSM as the network type to get any cells to show up. Clearly the phone is connected, as I can make calls.
Why is this happening, or not happening?
