CRASH/FREEZE while running TOMTOM 3 - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

Please help me as i am at my wits end !
When running tomtom 3 with a wired gps it runs fine for about 20 seconds and then crashes which completely locks up the PDA and i have to do a soft restart.
In an attempt to solve the problem i installed a smaller map on my phone memory instead of my SD memory card this seems to fix the problem if you dont use the voice guideance. If the voice guideance is turned on it crash's the phone after a couple of miles.
I have upgraded my phone software to the latest O2 has on there website and TOMTOM & GPS is upgraded to 3.07
PLEASE PLEASE HELP

Hi
did it work ok with the sd card at all? (ie without voice)
please disable POI. This can cause problems if too many are enabled.
post back the result.
Regards
The Pilgrim

Had the same issue, turn off POI, it is basically your SD card not being fast enough

Hmmm, I have a similar problem whereby TomTom will crash randomly every now & then. Disable the phone (enable flight mode) and it'll never crash - works a charm.
I hoped 3.07 would fix it, but alas it does not. I just don't have the phone enabled when using TomTom (otherwise I get lost when TomTom crashes)
It wasn't until I read this thread that it occured to me the behaviour was anything other than normal!

XDA2i Locks up fix

Has anyone experienced a regular lock up on the 02 XDA2i - if so I may have the fix.
The freeze on the xda2i happens after it has been running various programs, no one program was the root cause of the issue but when the program was ended the memory it was using should be freed up for other applications to use - but doesn't.
O2 will claim that 3rd party apps are causing this but in my opinion the cause is the 02 Active software which is installed after a hard resest where it allocates itself a memory address within the ROM.
SOLUTION:
1. Hard Reset after backing up
2. Choose Corporate User
3. Enter PIN 0506
This will install a corporate edition of Mobile 2003SE and will not include the 02 stuff.
Hope it helps - if anyone has any further bluetooth or tomtom problems I can probably help too.
ive not seen any lock ups on my xda2i at all runing tomtom and a bt headset
Are you using an 02 XDA though?
ThebigWomble,
Thans for the fix on freezing XDA 2i.
This id very useful.
I have two question if you would help me.
Tomtom 3 keeps loosing its favourites and recent locations.
How I can save them manually and reinstate them whenever they are lost.
Some it say no maps installed when in fact two maps are installed and on the Storage Card.
How I can unlock and unhide the extededROm on XDA 2i
Thanks for the help.
who me yes ive had no lockups at all really and i usually have ie and email running in the back ground and well as msn
I too have experienced the lockups on my XDA2i even with the corporate version of Mobile 2003SE installed. It seems to happen after I've used bluetooth (headset only) for a while. The only third party software I have installed at the moment is Resco Explorer.
i've removed the o2 interfaces and ****, but kept the task manager. mine regularly locks up, but usually when i go into the task manager and end the item called "programs" it the says something along the lines of "unhandled shell exception. attempting to reboot the shell." then it soft resets itself. not a major problem, just an anoyance.
yes, i've the same problem
my new xda2ii locks up very often
and during the blackout, i can receive incoming calls
during the blackout, if make a call to the xda2ii, it seems the line is free and ringing, but the pda stil remain off!!!
the only way to "get up" to the pda is reset it with the stylo
all other buttons are disabled
what can i do?
i've tried it also with installing the latest italian rom, and the problem is the same
so O2ACTIVE is not the cause of the problem, because the italian rom doesn't include that program/interface
NOW, i've tried to come back to O2ROM, without installing the O2 interface, using the trick of "corporate user"
i'll advise you about the results
any suggestion on resolving this problem?
I took the o2 active stuff off some time ago and lockups persist...
A
yes, i confirm
i resetted my pda today afternoon, and after 2 hours... i've got another pda lock
need manual reset to "wake up", missing 2 phone incoming calls
i think it's a serious problem
any other had success with this problem?
hello guys
any suggest?
the pda still blocks itself many times during a day, and i miss all the calls during that time
it's a terrible bug
any suggestion?
Thank you I hope it fixes my proggy freez bluetooth headset and gps issues. i did have a xda2s with same probs till yesterday i now have a xda2i same set of probs .. but now i dont have a sim unlock ...
lockups
i have done more soft starts on my xa2i then phone calls how do you install your software what order do you do it..?? please help.. ice
running tomtom with pretec data logger gps and hs200 b/t sony h/s.
the problem still persists
anyone has a solution please?
For those experiencing lockups please take a look at my Thread, its the phone that causes the lockup, trust me I have tested it to the absolute fullness.

opps sorry big womble have been busy for a while yes its an o2 xda2i
Ok here is how to turn off the phone, ive just done it without having a problem.
1) Start Tomtom with it communicating to the Bluetooth GPS and Phone is on.
2) Whilst tomtom is running turn on flightmode (turning off all Wireless and Phone)
3) Go back into Tomtom and it should have lost its connection to BT you will see it hasn't disabled the GPS though!
4) Turn on BT in the Bluetooth Settings in the settings menu of the XDA2i
5) XDA2i will then pop up a message saying turn off flight mode first, try to close that popup and it will take several seconds whilst it closes the popup.
6) Hey presto the delay was caused by the XDA2i trying to turn on Wirelss with out the Phone.
7) You now have just wirelss on and not the phone.
Let me know if this works for you, it has for me each time.
Cheers
Lee
tenx for your help
but i have the problem without tomtom installed too!!!
Xda2i locks up
It is one month since I bought. Sofar more than 20 hard resets. 100 soft resets. Why O2 is not coming out with fix.

tom tom navigate 5.1/5,21 problem!~!!!

I have a problem while using tomtom 5.21 to plan the route. I am using UK map plus, with tomtom 5.21, it also connects the BT GPS properly and works like dream in positioning. But it exits suddenly once it starts to plan the route.... (It had succeed in planning when I installed it at the first time, and then it failure /exit afterwards... )
I don't know why it happens like that. And I have tried to hard reset, clear the all the stuffs and re-install again, even 5.1 and 5.21, nothing improved...
Does anyone get the same case before? or give me some advice~?
Thanks~!
By the way, I am using xda exec, with dopod 900 rom, 1.13.36 CHT, radio rom 1.09.00
Go into settings
Go into TomTom settings and click on "Hide POI" and see if that helps.
Oh yes~
I didn't mention it. I have read a lot of posts here and google, but most of them got the same conclusion is POI porblem. I have closed the function of POI, even deleted it from the map, but the result's still disappointing me...
anyway~ thanks for your advice~!!!
This could be the problem of your SD-Card, it might be a slow/normal SD-Card. Try to use some good speed & quality SD-Card.
GoodLuck
Let me know
Sidd
I had the same problem with my mdaIII, turns out to be not enough free memory (need more than 10mb)
But I do not know if this could be the case on universal since they have a different operating system (ppc2003se / wm5 )
but you could try to free memory (program)
yes~ I thought it was lack of memory causes this problem before, however I had a hard reset on the xda exec and just installed TomTom in it, that's also failure.
I just find a method to solve this problem form http://www.mobile01.com/topicdetail.php?f=130&t=89157
quite interesting, share to all of you who got the same problem
Follow this steps:
1. Change perferences > Set Units
2. On the GPS position display page, DON'T choose the first one. (either the 2nd or the 3rd one is ok)
It seems work~!!! Tested it twice, no "exit" after changing the setting.
I wanna test it more, but raining outside now.
Let's try where/when it's not raining~!!!

TomTom Running Slow

Hi,
TT6 runs ok to start off with and then gets to the point where it appears to freeze up but is infact still running and can take 10 min's or longer to respond to a screen tap. Other programs (i.e. phone) can be accessed and run almost as fast as normal.
I have defragmented the SD card, but the problem remains.
Any other suggestions?
How about this solution:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=280513&highlight=tomtom6+slow
Does anybody have the default settings for an O2 Exec relating to the above link?
The map is the GB with W Europe major roads. SD card is 1GB.
Thanks,
Scott
It appears the problem lies with Checkpoint v. 6.0.0.0. I'll continue to test and keep all informed for future reference.
If you use the Europe Map and enable TomTom Traffic it can cause serious problems. It is checking for Traffic Data for the whole map at that time. If you use one country map the problem dissappears.
I'm using the GB map with major european roads. Tomtom Traffic isn't enabled.
I haven't used Checkpoint for a couple of days and it runs fine. I'll try it over the weekend with checkpoint running and see what happens.
I'll post my results here.

Xperia GPS malfunction

Hi
I wonder if someone has this same problem and know how to solve it...
Most of the times that i try to use tomtom or wayfinder, the gps can't get a fix, it locks on to the satelites with no problem, but only for 1/2 seconds, then loses the position and after some 10s it regains the position again for another 1/2s and loses it again...
The only i way can get the gps to function properly again is by turning the phone off, remove the battery and turn it back on. Then it works, but if i turn off tomtom and try to use wayfinder the problem returns, and sometimes also happens after i close tomtom and try to use it again later...
It's driving me nuts i did a hard reset and after instaling my programs the problem remains. It seems google maps works ok, tho i'm not sure as the program doesn't have the option to see to how many satelites it's locked on.
any ideas? I doubt it's from the programs i install cause the ones i use i dw them all from this forum...
Thanks
its probably your location, the satellites might not be abundant enough. GPS works fine for me, I'm using IGO8.
no, it's not that, cause when it happens i remove the battery and reinsert and turn on the phone again, and after doing that procedure the gps will lock with some 6/7 satellites and will not fail as long as i don't turn off the first program i try to use the gps with ...
If i use tomtom after doing that battery removal procedure, it will work flawlessly, if i turn off tomtom and use it right after, it still works ok, but, if i turn off tomtom and after i use wayfinder, or if i only use tomtom again after some hours, it will have that problem (and vice-versa), it does find the same satellites and gets the coordinates (in tomtom they get those blue level bars), but only for very brief moments every 10/15s which ofc makes it impossible to correctly use the navigation program
If the gps was broken or something it wouldn't work ok after i removed the battery... i guess i'll try another hard reset
Try to disable A-GPS.
possible corrupt quick gps file , run quick gps and downoad new file.
Hi,
If you have used Advanced Config and enabled A-GPS, disable it as it will cause issues with TomTom and other GPS navigation software.
Later...
hehe got it working now, i had tried that before, but seems i was using an older version of advanced config or something, i downloaded a new version, disabled a-gps and now the gps is working fine thanks for the help
Re elusivo
Elusivo, could post how you fixed your problem? Because I currently have the same problem, but no Idea how to fix it. You said something about using a new configuration with and old one? Can you please explain?
Search for the program 'Advanced Config' on the forum and install it and then run it. Go to the GPS section and if A-GPS is enabled disable it. A-GPS uses the phone masts to triangulate and get your position which causes havoc when you are trying to use the internal GPS
Thanks for that......Problem solved
hello
I do have the saame issue as you with my gps. I install Igo, tomtom, gps htc tools and gps skinner and it is always 20/30sec to get a fix but it loses it 1 sec after.
If I disable A-Gps, it will increase the time to fix satellites or is it just used for quiick gps to download ephemerids???.
I think we have to ask Customer support because it is unacceptable for such an ewxpensive phone to have to disable functionalities such as A-gps to get it to work

Click to collapse
A-GPS uses Cell Towers to guess where you are. It is not (on these phones anyway) linked to Quick GPS which is a lot better at getting you a fix on a cold start.
As others have mentioned for some reason with A-GPS enabled TomTom doesn't like it, and I don't know of any real reason to use it.
@artesea : I don't get why you said "I don't know of any real reason to use it".
Are you talking about Tomtom or about A-GPS function ??
Because if you are speaking about Tomtom, I do have similar problem with all software using GPS.
And if you disable A-GPS function you are going to have to wait may be 3 minutes or more to get a fix instead of 40seconds so I think this is a real reason to use it...
No I'm talking about A-GPS.
Have you tried a cold start using Quick GPS, I can get a location in under 30 seconds.
So I disable A-GPS and I got fix within 30/40 seconds and I never lost it.
I just think it is absolutely unbearable to have to disable A-GPS to get your GPS working properly. This mobile phone cost 700€
I just would like to know what is protocol version from people who can have A-GPS working properly.
Rom version : 1.02.933.3
Radio version : 52.43.25.24W
So you've gone from 20/30 seconds to get a fix but then it drops, to 30/40 seconds to get a fix and it work and you STILL have a problem???
Maybe there is a reason why A-GPS is disabled by default!
No when I disable A-GPS I don't have problem any more.
I just remembered that I may have enable A-GPS through Advanced Config.
Hard reset do not change this, I though it was a registry editor value but apparently it is more than that.
Anyway it is not Xperia X1 issue but Advanced Config compatibility with Xperia X1
having problems with gps now too :/ later it was working brilliant (fix in no time), but now, most of the time i dont even see any satellite...
but sometimes, especially after reset, it shows like 5-6 satellites, but cant get fix, after some time sats just disappear :X tried disabling/enabling a-gps, with/without quick gps file downloaded, still the same... and no answer anywhere...
i guess i'll have to use my warranty and get it serviced :/
edit: today reflashed radio one more time (as yesterday after like 5 radio flashes, i ended on the original version, not the newest one) and suddenly gps is working hope it lasts...

Losing GPS Signal

Hi
I use my 3G with Tom Tom maps and the internal GPS. Always worked ok but about 2 days ago it started only connecting for about 10 seconds or not even finding a GPS signal at all. It seems to find the internal GPS unit but then can't find any signals. Have tried it with an 'external' GPS unit and it works fine.
(I tried Orange support and they said it was my GPRS settings !!!!! - at that point after spending 5 mins on the phone I gave up !!)
Any help appreciated
Have you tried using updating the QuickGPS program?
Hi
Yes - it didn't make any difference however
Thanks
Petez1 there a lotsa options, you did try a soft reset i assume, but you can also:
- check if AGPS (assisted GPS) is active on your phone, if so...disable it.
- use the HTC GPS tool to check your GPS status
- re install TT Navigator, and maybe try another version
- in TT Navigator you can either choose 'build in GPS' or 'Other NMEA GPS', both should work, play around a bit....see if it solves your problem.
Last but not least you could give your Jade a hard reset (whipes all the information on your phone, bringing it back to factory state).
Anyways, i sometimes have the same problem as you, esp when i've used the GPS in another application then TT Navigator (GoogleMaps or Footprints). In my case a soft reset solves it.
Put the bold words i used in the excellent Google search function of this forum and you'll find lotsa information.
Hi
Thanks - I checked all these and did a hard reset but still didn't work. I am getting a replacement from Orange
Grateful for your advice
Thanks
YvW...and i'm glad Orange gives you a replacement, cuz when you've tried everything with no solution at all it's probably a hardware issue.
