All operator settings are correct. I can send SMS and they are delivered, but (problem #1) outgoing SMS are not stored in the folder "Outbox".
Then, I can't receieve any SMS (#2). Actually, I do receive them, but the only way to learn about that is to keep looking on the screen, because when the device is turned off it will turn on for awhile and that's all. Messages are not even stored in device, so I can't read any of them.
Concerning e-mail: similar problems but not the same. I do not receive notification message or any sound. But incoming e-mails are stored and standart outlook says "x unread messages" or something like that. Outgoing mails are not stored either.
What I tried to solve these problem:
1. made a Backup - removed ALL installed programs = didn't help.
2. hard reset - everything works fine - restore Backup - sucks again...
I'm a newbie user of such kind of devices and a little bit desperate at the moment, so I would appreciate any help.
Thanks beforehand.
First ragarding the SENT ITEM, in OPTION you must enable this option
in SMS go to TOOLS then Option and put a check mark under "save a copy of sent messages in the sent item folder" (or something like this, I'm just translating French to English)
Second: after your hard reset, install your programs one at the time, and see if this still work.
Do not use your backup.
So you can see what program is interfering with the SMS fonction
And you can then eliminate the program that mess with your SMS
Hope that help

Hi..i'm wondering if anyone has the same problem as i'm facing right now. In inbox (whether if its an sms account or email), the draft and deleted items folders seem to show that there is unread messages but when i select it...all i see is blank.
The inbox and sent items r fine. I suppose my problem is that i am unable to view my unread messages.
Nope don't have that problem. Those folders show only unread items if there is one.
Installed e-mail related applications lately? Try uninstalling if that doesn't help then try it with a clean XDA (after a hard reset without installing applications) If it works with a clean device then one of your applications is causing the problem.
Mark
I supposed it must be one of the new programs i installed but i've already uninstalled those and yet it still is not showing.
i'm thinking maybe sprite backup is causing some trouble.. anyone else experience same problem as me?
example: inbox
Drafts: SMS 0 items, 5 unread
but on the screen its blank. That's my problem.
i think the image will show it better.[/img]
Missing SMS messages
I too am missing messages. THe XDA2 crashed so I used sprite backup to restore but since then today screen shows X unread messages but inbox hows none (counter at the bottom - shows X unread too!)
i forgot to mention that i'm using sprite version 3.0.1 build 1676
I'm also using Sprite Backup but have no problem restoring messages.
Using Sprite Backup V3.0.0 b 1517

No doubt I'm getting the wrong picture here....but isn't that picture showing the Drafts folder?
Anthony
no,you're not wrong. it is the draft folder because currently the only places that have unread messages is the draft and the deleted messages which have unread messages. Haven't got an unread message yet in my inbox which i guesss i should try but i htink it will be the same problem
Have you checked both sms and pop3 folders?
any solution?
hi, i am also having this problem did anyone find a solution for this. any replys greatly appreciated

Solution
Hi
I had the same problem, (unread items in deleted folder when actually the folder was empty) the solution is below:
http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/raj/Unread.html
Remember to follow instructions exactly.
1)Dowload the software dbview
2) copy to pocketpc
3) run it from pocketpc
4) goto pmailfolders
5) In the bottom window scroll right (if you cant find the scrollbar likeme just use the right key to scroll)
6) u will see deleted items. select this row
7) scroll more until you find the number that corresponds to your unread number
8) got menu and delete record. It will ask to delete all selected records. confirm this
9)exit program.
10) PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!!
All credits to the original poster .
It was a little bit difficult, because there where 3 Sent-Items and only the SMS database was corrupt.
It you scroll to the right there will be a reference to fldr***.
If you then scroll in the upper window until the see the database fldr****, you can see the headers and the number of files.
If you found the correct one, go back to pmailFolders and delete the correct one.
For the first time my 3th!! T-Mobile Compact seems to work completely (at least if it doesn't need a softreboot).
Using WM6 on HTC Hermes i can't open fldr**** databases. I only get MSN db!
Hi, I'm having a a slight problem with my XDA2. After an accidental hard reset when I was changing my simcard, I restored it using activesync but now there's a rather annoying problem with the sms menu where there's one sms that I cannot delete. The annoying part is when that sms counts as unread and now the today screen constantly shows I have one unread message when in truth there's none. I tried moving the messages to another folder but now I have another undeletable sms in my drafts folder(and when i try to open these messages, a blank message comes up even though the content summary shows perfectly well on the message list screen). I also have one more corrupted message in my inbox that shows [no sender] and [no subject] which remains at the top of the list and cant even be opened. I try to open it, the messafe opening screen transition comes out but then nothing happens. I'm sorry if I may seem ranting on but this is my first pda and I'd rather not lose all the SMS i keep in my archive folder. Any help is appreciated. Oh, after reading some posts here to find a solution, no, I'm not using Sprite Backup or anything.
I have exactly the same problem except I have more ghost messages, I am using sprite backup though if that has any relevance...?
any ideas?
yeah i had the second problem with the sms u can't open on my xda II, but i had hundreds that i couldn't view or delete.
seemed the only way to fix it was to hard reset.. but u might try and get that pocket mechanic i think it is, where you can edit the system databases.. just a thought.
You may use dbView to directly delete these messages from WinCE database (make backup first).
Most probably this message is located somewhere in fldrXXXX data table.
Hello, forgive my newbie ignorance please.
I have a new O2 Hermes, which I have flashed to Cingular:
RUU_HER_Cingular_1.34.502.1_1.16.00.00_wwe_cws_ship
I have attempted the QWERTY-QWERTZ registry fix, but am not yet successful (no big problem).
What is vexing me is that Messaging will not display incoming SMS -- inbox is always empty, but the Start menu says I have Text Messages Unread.
I am also unable to send SMS -- I press 'SEND' and the message sits in the outbox forever -- no error message. I know my SMS gateway is configured correctly, and I can't see anything else to configure except Unicode support.
I also know my account is set up for SMS because I can put my SIM in a conventional handset and it works in and outbound.
My colleague who has the identical Xda with the identical ROM does not have this problem.
Any ideas?
/PhM
is the inbox for the email or the sms or outlook...etc ?
seems simple but I can't find any other reason, there are a couple of inboxes check to see which one you're currently at you can switch through them,
seeing as it says you have unread messages I assume sms is working fine.
Messages clarification
when I click on the 'Text Messages: 8 unread', the device goes to 'Text Messages'
header is 'Inbox' and 'Received'.
the screen is blank exept for the footer 'Text Messages 0 items.
If I click on 'Inbox', I see the different folders 'MMS' (empty), 'Outlook 'Email' (which has the working outlook stuff), and 'Text Messages', which has 'Inbox' empty and 'Outbox' (1) -- the message that refuses to be sent.
It is bizarre behaviour.
I can't send MMS either; composed and 'sent' but stuck in outbox with an envelope+Xsymbol.... (but MMS is more complicated, and not as important to me)
go to messages,
click on menu/tools options,
what accounts do you have there?
you might need to setup a new text message account although it should be there automatically you might need to change the service number.
Hi Phm,
Sound like your SMS center number is not set right - could be wrong but check it here > Start > Settings > Personal > Phone - On the services tab click 'Voice Mail and Text Messages' > Get Settings. The numbers returned should be those as used by your network...
Gav.
Hi Gavin, Hi Darky.
My Messages:toolsptions has accounts:
* Text Messages
MMS
New Account....
text messages only has option 'unicode y/n'.
settingshone:voicemail/text shows:
Text message service centre: +1 (705) 796-9300
Voice Mail: +1 9604) 418-3471
which are correct for Rogers.
for giggles I retype the SMSc entry.
in PHM regedit (not the same PhM ;-) )
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\SMS contains Datagram, Status and TextShared, all empty.
System\State\Messages contains
OtherEmail\Unread (Count:6)
SMS\Unread (count 8, Text 'Text Messages...'
sync (name activesync, unread count 0)
TotalEmail\Unread (count 6)
Vmail line1,2, total (unread count 0)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
comm\cellular\SMS\Protocols\Notification
AppName tmail.exe
and a bunch of other parameters
subtlety: some of the entries point to AppName tmail.exe and others point to \Windows\tmail.exe. (explicit path)
Can I assume there's a path similar to old desktop windows?
HKLM\comm\cellular\SMS\Router and Store are empty.
that's all I see in the registry that might be relevant.
HKLM\Services\SMSReciever looks in order.
Next thing I'll try is reflash the system. But that's a bit like trying to start the car with one foot on the ground.
Hi,
In mine I can see and read SMS, but can't send. Today I found the reason is probably that I got a 32kb SIM' card. My operator is sending me a 64kb. 128kb do also exist.
Not sure this can be linked to your issue though...
SIM size and SMS?
Hi Prerna, interesting idea.
what makes it weird is that I was able to send and receive messages with the 'old' O2 flash. SMS broke when I loaded the Cingular flash I am still using my old Rogers SIM (vintage 2003 or so).
Maybe it's time to upgrade.
/PhM
re-flash helps
Well, I spent an hour, downgraded to the original O2 ROM, then upgraded to the Cingular ROM, and now SMS works again.
I have not yet tried to do the registry tweaks to restore the QWERTZ keyboard.
I wonder if maybe I accidentally broke something when I was poking around in the registry.
For now, SMS is working and that's the main thing

Hello,
I've an issue like this:
I could send and recived SMS but some SMS don't work (the one who tell me I've a message)
and apparently it's a know issue from my provider ...
just happened to me too. i have removed sim. put in other fone sent and received one sms. put it back in to my hermes and it started to work :S
i had such problem too until i uninstall the sunnysoft vcard software. After that sms goes fine.
Text Message: 6 Unread - but no messages
There are 6 unread text messages on my today screen but when I highlight it to view it, there are no messages to be read. I keep getting text messages and the counter just adds up but there are no messages at all.
Anyone have any ideas how to solve this? Your help is highly appreciated, thanks!

Hi
You can try the following application. It removes spurious unread message count from the today screen and resets it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=32766&d=1167695488
However - I am curious, is it the case that genuine messages are being received but that you just can't view them?
Mike
I had the same problem when I upgraded to any of the WM6 Roms, some days smses worked and others it would just store the smses in the outbox and if someone sent me a sms my phone display would come on but wouldn't indicate a sms, yet my friend would get a delivery report, so all i did was just downgarde to the latest WM5 Rom and problem solved.
Hi guys,
first of all sorry for my bad english. I'll try to explain my problem with the software HTC Data Backup. Today I've made the complete backup of my HTC Blackstone with this software. Then I tried to modify some colour of the WM user interface. Due to some problem in restoring the original colours, I decided to restore the previous situation using the HTC Data Backup software (and the file previously created). The result is: after restoring I couldn't find my preferred contact anymore on the TF3D interface. No links of installed programs in Start->Programs and so in the tab programs (in TF3D) all the preferred program installed and added in this tab cannot be launched. But this is not the real problem because I can simply create by myself the links to each program. The real problem is in SMS. When I go into the SMS tab, I can see all the incoming SMS, but when I click I cannot see anymore the "conversation mode". And If I click on "all SMS", I can see olny the OLD SMS stored in my SIMcard. This is weird. I can see all the sms from the tab but in "all sms" I cannot see the last sms. Why?How can I restore the conversation mode and how can I see all the incoming SMS again?
Thanks in advance
If you look at the comments on http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-htc-data-backup.html regarding HTC Data Backup, it seems that this software does not work correctly for many users.
Try Schaps Advanced Config (http://www.touchxperience.com/en/advanced-configuration-tool.html) where you can enable threaded mode for SMS.
HTC Data Backup
p.s.
Using "Advanced Config", and disabling the "Threaded SMS" (after a soft reset), all the incoming SMS are visible in the SMS folder. Then if I try to re-enable (from Advanced config) the Threaded SMS , (after the soft reset) the problem come back because in the SMS incoming folder I can see olnly the OLD SMS in the Simcard (even if at the bottom side in the window I can read "SMS \ MMS - 141 items" (so the SMS stored on my HTC are hidden, why??)
My girlfriend sent me a text and some how i deleted all my messages from her before reading it. Now it has the 1 Unread SMS thing on my screen constantly. Ive tried a soft reset. But it just wont go.
Any ideas?
Thanks
whinge. haha nah, hard reset perhaps?
I really dont wanna have to do that, ill lose everything
try receiving a new one :m
or try doing a backup with ppcpimbackup and then restore the message overwriting all the existing ones.
Happens to me sometimes. Just tap on the "1 unread message", it will open "Messaging", then the message will disappear.
Lol you crazy? Make a backup of something that isn't working anymore to use it after a hardreset so that the problem is back there?
@liam08, try SmsImport which you can find here: http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-smsimport-v1-0-1.html
Perhaps it will get you back some msgs, I'm sure it's worth a try. Otherwise you could try to wipe the messages using the built-in function of poutlook.
Same happened to me. I have solved in this way:
- disable threaded SMS from advanced config or xperiatweak
- reboot
- delete unreaded message (in non-threaded view you'll surely view the message in the "big" list...)
- re-enable threaded SMS
- reboot
