Displaying Web Sites containing JavaScript on a MDA III - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Hi,
I did develop a web application using asp-pages including JavaScript as a front end for an application using. JavaScript is needed to interface with the back end application.
On an ASAU MyPal the pages displayed as expected, but on my MDA III from T-Mobile the pages show, but all data (that is built using JavaScript) does not show. I can only see the content, that is coming from straight HTML-coding.
I talked to T-Mobile and they say that they do not support JavaScript, but a Java VM would do. I installed one without success. Is this information correct?
What do I need to do that the MDA behaves like the ASAU MyPal? There is nothing installed on the ASUS in addition. How do I enable my MDA for JavaScript to make sure pages are displayed correctly? Registry change needed?
Any help is highly appreciated!
Thanks!
Joscha

Have you tried the NetFront browser?
http://nfppc.access.co.jp/english/

Yes, I did try NetFront and Thunderhawk without success.
Joscha

@xda-rocks
i downloaded the application installed it and when try to run the application on my xda II it gives some .dll error

I've been using NetFront since my XDA1, then XDAII, now MDAIII - worked on all three devices, no errors.

Thanks! It is now working almost as expected. There is still something wrong as it is not running on the ASUS PDA. I believe it not correct to post it here, so I am moving this to the dev forum. Maybe you can have a look there.
Thanks so far
Joscha

I want to log into a University site and access network resources.
I was able to log into the whole of the site using IE but when I got to the bit which uses Java Script displaying the files I got a blacnk script. The IT people have told me tat my problem is the Java Script.
Following on from you guys on the thrread I installed ftxPBrowser. I can't even log in to the University website using this. Does anyone know what the problem is and can anyone help me.
its all fine on the PC and I know I can log in with IE.
The service I am trying to access says
'they have java script but not the proper java engine, that is why they can't perform some functions.'
I don't know enough about modern programming methids to be able to know what I need. I have tried Opera to no avail.
I want to try Netfront but the trial doesn't support java at all and I don't want to pay and then be left with seomthing tat won't do the job - can anyone help me?

if you go into memory and stop the program
then there is no way in the world that a installed program
which is not running should be able to cause anything like that
or you can softreset
if it still get hot it's pure chance
much like if your pc blow up while you are typing
a doc in word dont mean that word have a terrorist module

Sky By Mobile..

Has anyone got this working on a WM5 device yet?
The url's that you go to come back with
"service is not available for your mobile device".. but there are lots of JAR's and JAD's floating around for different phone types..
EDITED:
As I'm not a Vodafone 3G customer - i'm after the SKY TV Guides and the ability t mark something as "to record" and have it automatically recorded at home.....
Charlie Grillo
id be interested in this too
Can someone explain a bit mroe about this? Is it a service that sky are introducing for their customers, or an extra pay service? Cheers.
This is for current customer (for free):

try going to:

Sky by Mobile - Is it possible on Windows Mobile?
By Gears. Published on 10 Jul 2006.
Some of you may be aware of a new service launched by Sky TV recently. If you're lucky enough to have one of their whizzy PVR's then you'll already be used to the live pause and recording to hard disk. However, recently they announced their Sky by Mobile service which allows you to get the latest news and videos from Sky plus you can now remotely set programmes to record onto your Sky+ box. Good eh?
Only one problem though. You need one of these handsets to run the software, and Windows Mobile isn't on there. I'd really like to use this service - I'm always forgetting to set my Sky+ box or I'm away from the house and I can't physically touch the remote. Last night I found this interesting digitalspy.co.uk thread and downloaded this JAR file and plonked it onto my Orange SPV C600. I opened it up in file explorer and ran it in the Java MIDlet Manager. It does actually work, I can load it up and enter my sky.com credentials, however it stops after that - I presume because it can't access the net. I can't seem to get around this and I've tried everything like opening a GPRS connection manually and tweaking with the security settings.
Has anyone else tried this successfully ? I'm trying the JAR file for the Nokia 6230 in this example but Sky hide the links so I've not found any other JAR files to test.
http://mobile.sky.com/SBM/series40/sky_S40_LR_SF_6230/SkyMobile_S40_LR_SF_6230.jar
It installs in the midlet manager, and runs, but does not connect or go any further.
Surur
ive tried the link in a few different browsers, pie, mnimo and the java based opera but no look, just says not compatible with your device, i guess we will have to wait untill the sky.com web based service is available and use the text service in the mean time
got excited when the letter came through the post, its been in the pipeline for about a year or so now
edit: looked at the website http://www.wecomm.com/ who i think are the company that provide the software for the service and they do have other products that work on WM phones, so maybe soon it will be on our wizards!
anyone know whether we are going to get this?
On a similar subject, does anyone have the software program that you need to view your sky channels via broadband? I've just registered for it, but they email the URL to the original email address that was given to them by the account holder, but my Dad never gave them one so I'm struggling to get the software!
Cheers.
I think everyone has given up on this but ive managed to get a collection of installers for various phones, using the user agent tags in firefox.
not managed to get any of them to work though! but thought they may be useful to other people.
edit: ignore this post i cant seem to upload the files!
but if anyone is interrested give me a shout, ive got about 13 different installer files, mainly nokia, motorola, SE an i think one might be for blackberry.

The MUST HAVE ! - Picsel Browser on HTC Devices ?

hi,
did anyone get the picsel browser to run on HTC devices ? it's the VERY best mobile html-browser i ever saw!! it's awesome !! unfortunataly it's not avaiable for all wm devices, on the webpage you can only download picsel viewer. but this one don't show web pages.
my samsung sgh-i750 comes with pcsel browser preinstalled and i tried to copy the .exe file to my hermes, but i can't start it because an error comes up: "can't initialize"
maybe the .exe file has to be modified a little bit to run on every wm device
if someone want to try this, let me know. i can send you the files...
btw: if someone dindn't see picsel browser in action, i tell you: You have to see it !!! This little aplication handles the web sites on you mobile device like your pc at home.
max
or needs a pile of dll files and reg settings too ?
yes, maybe it need some additional files. i searched the complete device for all files that could be needed by picsel browser, but all in found are some resource-files (.gif) with grafics for the UI.
maybe the aplication looks for the device ID and starts only on registered devices. in that case someone has to remove this directly from the exe-file.
max
If you can copy out the exe this means it's not part of ROM. Try using Total Commander to access your extended ROM and get the installation cab from there.
any new about the picsel browser ?
I got picsel browser on my palm device and its superb!!!! I really want to have it on my pocket pc . Its the best document / internet browser so far. (not the fastest but its eye candy)
Someone should start working on this! I really want to try out the browser.. Could it be extracted from a Treo rom?
Can someone point us in the direction of a ROM that contains it?
It'd probably need a bit of hacking to force compatibility. Perhaps!
V
this browser comes installed on the samsung world phone offered by verizon. however that particular phone runs wm2003 not wm5. if someone could dump that rom I'm sure mr vj could hack it to tell for all of us!
I'm not so sure I could, but someone could! Just point us towards a rom or a rom dump.
V
Treo has it installed too, the 750 rom has been dumped if you want to sift through it
the 750 rom.. dont u mean 700? and is it on the 700w or the 700wx or w/e sprints ver is
I dumped my i730 rom during FUT for WM5 so that superdave could create an uploadable rom. I should have it somewhere. Is anyone still interested? There are a few apps that i would want besides picsel, the remote control, and task manager/launcher.
Be VERY CAREFUL! I extracted a few picsel products including picsel browser (which I posted here & my site) and got a letter from there attorney, So I would just be careful with that one And well the laucher is so so nothing major didnt like the way it stayed at the bottom of the screen, and the remote program is something I myself havent played with yet.
~Mike
I read about that on your forum, I think it's bs. But good thing most of us got it while it was out..
BS or not, if this forum gets the same letter as Lvballer06, we'll take any infringing material down. Grab it while it's hot if it does come on!
Picsel is superb though (but with limitations). They should really make it a commercial standalone release.
V
vijay,
I have had some success in the past using dependencywalker (attached) to determine files that are used by a program. It might work for you in this case. With all of the other cool stuff that you create, I'm sure that it will come in handy again.
big
bigbawlayesyawla: many thanks for the offer; I have various dependancy walkers - that's cool.
Picsel was made to function perfectly - the limitations I referred to are in the software itself. I've taken steps to improve it, but the app is a wonderful achievement in itself. Beautiful...
V
vijay: I figured that you already had something to do dependency stuff
picsel sounds wonderful...good luck porting it to your other device.
you have written some pretty nice code yourself, so if you are impressed, that is significant!
As I said, and I can't say it enough, it's a beautiful app and wish it were a commercial app. It's also a pdf viewer, word doc viewer, excel viewer, image viewer, and other stuff.
However, it does need expanding... I'm working on some extras for it to make it hopefully a good deal more useful.
Picsel have every right to get medieval on our asses for distributing it, so I won't. But seriously, it's our loss. I'll post some screenshots some time.
Oh, it's also NOT pixel doubled on VGA devices. So you get a good hires image on a VGA Universal.

Opera slower then the PIE?

Hey @ all,
i just tested a little around with my Advantage and 3.5G and found out that my Opera is never faster then 120Kbyte/Second... then i was wondering if this is the same on my WLAN. I ve got a 3.5 MBit DSL and tried first with Opera again 100-120 Kbyte/Second. After i tested with PIE. 450-540 Kbyte/Second...
Do i have to change some settings?
Thanks for your help
Kind Regards,
CoDeX2k
I've had a similar experience, and now use PIE over Operah. No idea why its like this!!

I did not do any benchmarks but I did find PIE faster. I have been using it over Opera and even Vueflo is set for PIE.
Maybe we need to tweak some settings in Opera as I do find the multiple tabs very useful.
Is there such a thing as tweaking the MTU or otherwise for individual applications on the Athena? Maybe Opera is slower because it processes the HTML differently and tries to adjust it for the screen while IE doesn't do as well of a job. Let me know if I'm wrong here.
Edit: I'm going to read through these to find out if there is anything that can be done. But I can't yet until later tonight or maybe this weekend. If you guys give it a go, let us know what you find if anything.
http://www.opera.com/support/service/customization/
its, I think Opera is definitely MUCH MUCH slower than IE. This is not just in loading itself , in fetching data, in displays, but also in accepting input from the keyboard. Opera is unable to cope with the high speed typing using TenGo software keyboard, whereas IE has no problem coping.
I'm sticking with IE from now until this problem is addressed in future version.
As per suggestions in this thread I tested PIE.
Oh my god (OMG for all you netizens) it is h o r r i b l e. It doesn't render anything correctly.
And I do not find that Opera is slower, but that could be due to the service providers crappy Edge (only ~160 kbps).
Opera renders pages quite nicely although sometimes it misses things, but overall it it is much more pleasurable to surf using Opera.
Strange, i also found Opera better, and the speed is not slower than IE as well.

Not much but here they are:
- Menu/Windows/....defaults.
- Menu/Display/, select Load images, Fit to screen, Landscape. Go to Zoom and selectd 90%. Found that putting it on 90% pages load better and faster on my end.
- Menu/Tools/, General tab: uncheck Jump to page content, check Block pop-ups, Minimum font size 10. History tab: 2000KB, Network tab: All SSL and TLS checked, all Proxy left blank, Misc tab: All checked but Use grab and scroll. I found that checking grab and scroll slowed down the browser.
I'm planning on trying to optimize it more if at all possible maybe sometime this weekend. Also planning on possibly optimizing some registry entries for communicating via Internet. If there is an equivalent MTU setting like on PC's then that needs to be optimized because if you're going from GPRS to WiFi or 3G the settings won't be the same.
Edit: One more thing, if you didn't know about the opera.ini file here is a little info on that. I'm working on figuring out the best settings for this as well. Since I don't know when I'll have time to finalize this here is the info so you guys can look into it yourselves and not have to wait on anyone. ;-)
The file is located on your device at:
\\Application Data\Opera\opera.ini
You can find most of the preferences defined here:
http://operawiki.info/OperaINIFiles
I haven't had a chance to find where in the registry you can find connection optimization data but I know there are programs out there that you can setup profiles for each connection type, GPRS/WiFi/3G/etc...I wonder if these programs allow you to setup MTU's and other settings. Can anyone provide info on this?
Today when I used my Opera it was okay
It appears that our units are having erratic sluggishness at times. Most of the time it is fast but for no apparent reasons things started freezing up.
I'm begining to suspect this might be due to compaction thread activities going on, where the file system just simply takes up most of the available resources.
I thought the following information might be useful in order for us to understand what is really going on with our device.

What does everyone else think?
Everynow and then when I click on a URL in an email etc Opera does not launch. The wait cursor spins and spins to no end. I then try to start Opera myself using its icon ... same result. I close all running applications wondering if this is memory related and try Opera again ... no difference. So in short I've had it with Opera for now so I want to go PIE way.
Does anyone know how I can change the system default such that each time I click on a URL PIE opens up instead of Opera?
Thanks a lot for all your help.

HTML editing on the fly.

Good morning everyone,
I hope your all well.
I have been updating various bits and peices up on my web site recently, just adding a blog and some pics/files for download.
I am finding that I am using my PC to edit my web pages and then uploading from my PC or my PPC.
I have never even tried to create a .txt file on my PPC before - I have just used pocket word in the past if I needed to do any typing on the go which seems to only use the pocket word format.
Does anyone know of any good HTML editors or just plain text editors that you would reccomend for this platform?
I am using a HTC Advantage running WM6.
I really want to be able to open and edit .htm/.html on the go and then upload direct to my web site.
Total Commander seems to connect up to my site ok so I can upload. - Resco explorer seems to fail to authenticate correctly
Just need a good HTML editor.
Anyone help?
Many thanks all.
http://www.freewareppc.com/docs/notepad.shtml ?
ive tried a few including the only php editor and testor (which doesnt work very well but when it does only works for basic php commands anyway)
this is the current HTML editor im using although it does have a few issues and will error from time to time but still one of the more decent as it allows for previews inside the application.
its called pocket html available from here... http://www.isquaredsoftware.com/
works otherwise fine on the hermes (WM5)
