Has anyone got this working on a WM5 device yet?
The url's that you go to come back with
"service is not available for your mobile device".. but there are lots of JAR's and JAD's floating around for different phone types..
EDITED:
As I'm not a Vodafone 3G customer - i'm after the SKY TV Guides and the ability t mark something as "to record" and have it automatically recorded at home.....

Can someone explain a bit mroe about this? Is it a service that sky are introducing for their customers, or an extra pay service? Cheers.

Sky by Mobile - Is it possible on Windows Mobile?
By Gears. Published on 10 Jul 2006.
Some of you may be aware of a new service launched by Sky TV recently. If you're lucky enough to have one of their whizzy PVR's then you'll already be used to the live pause and recording to hard disk. However, recently they announced their Sky by Mobile service which allows you to get the latest news and videos from Sky plus you can now remotely set programmes to record onto your Sky+ box. Good eh?
Only one problem though. You need one of these handsets to run the software, and Windows Mobile isn't on there. I'd really like to use this service - I'm always forgetting to set my Sky+ box or I'm away from the house and I can't physically touch the remote. Last night I found this interesting digitalspy.co.uk thread and downloaded this JAR file and plonked it onto my Orange SPV C600. I opened it up in file explorer and ran it in the Java MIDlet Manager. It does actually work, I can load it up and enter my sky.com credentials, however it stops after that - I presume because it can't access the net. I can't seem to get around this and I've tried everything like opening a GPRS connection manually and tweaking with the security settings.
Has anyone else tried this successfully ? I'm trying the JAR file for the Nokia 6230 in this example but Sky hide the links so I've not found any other JAR files to test.
http://mobile.sky.com/SBM/series40/sky_S40_LR_SF_6230/SkyMobile_S40_LR_SF_6230.jar
It installs in the midlet manager, and runs, but does not connect or go any further.
Surur

ive tried the link in a few different browsers, pie, mnimo and the java based opera but no look, just says not compatible with your device, i guess we will have to wait untill the sky.com web based service is available and use the text service in the mean time
got excited when the letter came through the post, its been in the pipeline for about a year or so now
edit: looked at the website http://www.wecomm.com/ who i think are the company that provide the software for the service and they do have other products that work on WM phones, so maybe soon it will be on our wizards!

anyone know whether we are going to get this?

On a similar subject, does anyone have the software program that you need to view your sky channels via broadband? I've just registered for it, but they email the URL to the original email address that was given to them by the account holder, but my Dad never gave them one so I'm struggling to get the software!
Cheers.

I think everyone has given up on this but ive managed to get a collection of installers for various phones, using the user agent tags in firefox.
not managed to get any of them to work though! but thought they may be useful to other people.
edit: ignore this post i cant seem to upload the files!
but if anyone is interrested give me a shout, ive got about 13 different installer files, mainly nokia, motorola, SE an i think one might be for blackberry.

Streaming the BBC's Content on your PDA

The Beebotron site lets you Listen Again to any BBC broadcast – something the Beeb won’t let you do on a PDA .
The main site gives you the information and background for the project, along with the radio stations and their programmes – just click and listen! This works well on a PC, but it’s getting a bit large for a PDA. So in the site you’ll find a link to Beebotron Lite, which is a cut down version (fully functional, but without the explanations) aimed purely at PDA users.
Beebotron and Beebotron Lite also host programme synopsis information. Now you’ll know what you’re going to play before you play it (unlike the Beeb’s site where you don’t know what, e.g. the Afternoon Play MON TUE WED THU FRI is going to give you unless you start playing one of the day links…)
I made the site primarily for my own use (Axim X51v) and then realised that other people might like it.
Thanks for taking the time to read this - hope you like the site!
Cheers, Kronalias
This is a fantastic idea Kronalias! However Real Player on my Universal times-out everytime I try to play any of the links. I've tried over Wifi, and Ive also adjusted real players time-out to 100 in the registry with no success.
Anybody having similar problems?- Is the BBC blocking me because I am conecting from New Zealand? I know they block video, but I have no problem accesing the audio links from my PC.
Thanks.
Hi Vscottie
Thanks for the nice words! Now let’s see if we can get your problem solved….
When you say that you can access the audio links from your PC do you mean that you can use Beebotron to listen? If so then, as my links are the links that are buried deeply in the Beeb’s site, you are not being blocked by either the BBC or your ISP. If you can’t use Beebotron on your PC then I’m afraid you won’t be able to use it on your PDA.
You might just find that you can Listen Again but not Listen Live (or vice versa) - although I haven’t had any reports of this behaviour.
You’re the first response I’ve had from NZ (thank you!), but I’ve had two reports from Australia. These were for a QTEK 9000 (same as an iMate JAS JAR) and a Nokia N80, both of which worked fine. They are both smartphones (WM5 on the QTEK, Symbian OS on the Nokia), and both connected to Beebotron using wifi. I realise NZ isn’t Oz, but I’m rather hoping that if Beebotron works in one country it’ll also work in t’other…
You might just find that you can Listen Again but not Listen Live (or vice versa), although I haven't had any reports of this behaviour.
I’m guessing that your Universal is the HTC Universal Windows Mobile 5 Pocket PC Phone. If so, then it should connect…
I’m not sure whether you can do the following on a smartphone (I don’t have one) but this checks whether everything is working on a pocket pc:
1. On your Pocket Internet Explorer please go to the Beebotron, then pick any Listen Again link and then any show. Don't click the link, press and hold it and you should get a popup box. Select the option 'Copy Address'
2. Open Real and then File => Open Location. Paste (Ctl V) the link in and press ok in the top right corner
And it should play!
Would you let me know how you get on please?
Cheers, Kronalias
PS For any other readers, in my OP I forgot to give the link to Beebotron Lite. It’s here: Beebotron Lite
Yeah I can't work out what it's problem is. Real Player 'connects' then starts 'loading' and stays that way with its little clock turning untill it reaches whatever I've set for time-out (100 now) then reports "Response or data from server timed out." It obviously hates me
Connecting from the PC is no problem- both from the Beebs site and yours.
But I've just worked out (sorry I should have checked before) that I can't 'load' Irish streams from RTÉ with real now either, or any real stream from the net- well I can load enough to view the tag information but not play the stream.
There must be something installed on my JasJar that's causing the problems, I've turned off the PCs firewall in case it was that.- Does RealOnePPC have problems with Wifi I wonder (we have no GSM coverage at the house)
Time to try some software removal.
Thanks again

Could a Universal owner help please?

Yup, I know it's cheeky request...
I run a website called the The Beebotron which lets you Listen Again to any BBC broadcast.
I've had some feedback in this link: here from someone who is having difficulty using my site with a Universal.
Could some kind soul with an HTC Universal please try my site and see if it works on your PDA?
I'd appreciate this, and would be immensely grateful for feedback on this thread - it's just as important to me to know that it doesn't work as to know that it does!
Thanks in advance,
Kronalias
It doesn't work for me. I get two messages. The first one is about security and says -
'Running a system command on this item may be unsafe.Do you wish to continue?'
On accepting the risk, I get another message:
' the file rtsp: (path etc) can not be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components can not be found.
If I try to approach the page through the google mobile proxy, all the links are simply text and not live links to the urls of the files.
Hi evilv
Firstly, thank you very much for taking the time to have a go, and the reply.
The message: 'Running a system command on this item may be unsafe. Do you wish to continue?' is due to Mr. Gates and M$ software which, in this instance, is errmm wrong. It is caused by PIE (Pocket Internet Explorer, IE Mobile, or whatever the current vogue name is) wanting to pass a URL to kick off the appropriate program - which depends on the last few bits of the URL. E.g. if the URL ended in .wma then the Windows Media Player would start. In the case you’ve very decently had a go at, then the URL would have ended in either .rm or .ra – both of which kick off the Real Player.
Secondly, I should have warned people about this message, and I apologise abjectly for not having done so.
On to the next bit… Although you get that message on your Universal, you don’t get it on a PC (I don’t know why, life is sometimes like that…).
Forget the google mobile proxy – that just isn’t going to work.
Could I please presume upon you one more time? Would you please try the same thing on your PC? The reason I ask is that if you try it on your PC and it fails then there may be something getting in the way and stopping you receiving this link in your country (I don’t know where you are). This, theoretically, could be the BBC or your ISP… The end result is that if my site doesn’t work on your PC then it’s definitely not going to work on your Universal. However, if it *does* work PC-wise, then I may have a problem with Universals…
Finally, for any Universal-owner lurkers out there who may not be registered on this board, if you would like to help me and report back whether you find my links work or not then would you please email me at kronalias [@AT] gmail [.DOT] com (I’m trying to avoid spam, so I’m sure you know what to do to get the right email address). If you want to keep it short then just a message ‘ok’ or ‘no go’ would *really* be appreciated.
Thanks again evilv
Cheers, Kronalias
PS Apols, I should said that you should be connecting wifi (unless you have another way which works, in which case please tell me!) and I should have included the Beebotron Lite site for PDAs (also works on PCs), which is here.
It works on my PC. I think you have a problem. The error message I mentioned above may be of some help.
Thanks for that evilv - I suspect that you're right and my site just isn't going to work with Universals. Oh well...
Works perfectly on my Universal using Opera
Works on mine O2 Exec with Opera.
Thank you very much to PC_Arcade and Yen for the feedback – I’ll update the compatibility list on the website mentioning Opera browser works for these PDAs.
A quick reply to evilv, who tried hard and whose feedback I really appreciated. Do you fancy having a go with Opera? Their website is here
Cheers, Kronalias

Webview.exe webview.dll tell me how to get this to work

Can anyone go to this site and download the webview.exe file launch the dll module and show the controls for my security cameras on their pda or pocket pc.
I have tried this on the 700wx and also on the 6800 mogul. I like the mogul much better so I took the treo back.
I can get to this site from a regular size desktop and also my laptop. When you go to the site it asks you to download the webview.exe file and run it. This puts the webview.dll file (module) in the same directory that you downloaded the webview.exe file to; with no problems. It then launches the web interface with a login screen. You login to the server and look at the 16 cameras in real time. When I try with my mogul I get a message that says webview.exe is "not a pocket pc application"
I tried copying and pasting the webview.dll file to my mogul but I don't know where to put it or how to launch the webview.dll module.
the compression I am using to show the live stream is h.264 or I can use mpeg4.

Hmmmmm
I 'm on the XDA's developers site;I just knew all my questions would be answered by now.
Look Guys, I don't want to come off sounding like a pompous idiot who thinks he can prod u guys into doing his homework for him. It's just that I got this 6800 on recomendations that I had read in the forums and I really do want to keep this one.
I have purchased three phones in the past week. I started out with the Treo 755p took it back because it had the Palm OS I was sure that was not going to work, but the Sprint sales guy assured me this was better than the 700wx because in his opinion Palm OS was better than WM5. I played with it for two days reboxed and took it back, I switched it for the 700wx because it has Windows OS the best and newest thing in Palm. He was right; it is, if you don't have a need to see streaming security cameras.
I took it back to another sprint store because the guy had gotten frustrated and says to me He can not switch phones more than once. Hmmmmmm
In the past few days I have been reading the forums; I think it was at Treocentral, or somewhere and I came across one of those articles' "which is better types" TREO or Mogul, I went to the Sprint store in our super mall and I found a working display of the Mogul.
I played with the thing for about two minutes and was blown away. I said to my self I have to get this to work for the security web cams; but not just for the camera's; I want to offer this as a turn key solution to my client...He has a treo 700w. I know he is going to be pleased with this. The size difference in the screen; the sliding keyboard, I am nuts about this thing already....
I'm not talking about jpeg's refreshing every 5 sec; I'm talking live streaming video from 16 cameras with the option to control PTZ's
All I Have to do is get the Internet explorer part on the Mogul, to work with the camera's software request to download and install webview.dll I don't know where to put this file on the Mogul, I don't know how to put it on the Mogul (yet). Ihave only had the Mogul for one day
go to the site, and please help
The Ip address is 70.63.106.214
if the exe was written for desktop windows its not going to run on windows mobile, simple as that, youll have to see if the company that makes the security cameras also makes a pocket pc app for them

And there is your answer.
It isn't a PocketPC application. And you are trying to run it on a PocketPC.
Won't work.
The only occasional exception is .net applications that sometimes work on a desktop and PDA.
What brand of camera are you connecting to? There are some apps out there for network cameras so I may be able to help you.
Good point!

I guess I was thinking about installing the webview.dll and that would have solved the problem. I am not sure about the software for the camera maufacturer they are from China, and not much info to go on...
When I go to the site: HTTP://70.63.106.214/default.ht
I get this msg: "To enable control work: Tools-> Internet Options-> Security-> Custom Level Reset to: low or Download and Install it
When I download and install the file; (webview.exe) it is a executable that unpacks webview.dll ver. 2.0, in the same folder with webview.exe.
I did not realize or I am not sure if the webview.exe is the program interface for the application to work, but now that makes sense. I thought the httpsvr.exe that is running on the DVR PC was the app for the web interface and would allow all this to work on any platform.
I guess if there is a way to decompile the webview.exe and make the neccessary changes to include the pocket pc header information; recompile it, test it, fix it test it again. then this would probably work. There is not enough information on the software manufacturers to begin trying to find a solution for this.
I have absolutly no programming skills. I realize now, that this may be a question for the developer/hack forum.
I would like to give it a try though. So if you can point me in the right direction; or if the Mods would repost this thred in the Dev/hack forum; maybe those guys would probably know what tools I would need to get started in this.
I appreciate all your help and it has made me think about the resolution, and the approach to my problem in a different way. Thanks
Greg

They are not Internet Cams; I have the regular BNC connectors that pigtale into a 15 pin video connector that attaches to a PCI camera card 8 cams, I have two of the camera cards installed in each pc. I also have an ATI radeon 9550 with wideo out for the hardware compression of the video signal to the PC monitor this works for NTSC and PAL signals.

G1 Document Editor and Push Email

Hi,
Does anyone know if there is a good document reader and editor out there yet for the G1?
I got the phone first thing pre-ordered and when I first got it I was impressed by the unit itself but, not so much by what was available on the marketplace. I check frequently on my phone for new apps and occasionally online on other websites for apps but, haven't come up with what I need. Which is a document editor something that can read and write word and excell docs. as well as read pdf's.
I would also like to have push Hotmail. For some reason my phone will only download 25 message before obtaining a connection error whit hotmail.
Anyways, I figure most users of the G1 came from a WM device before and would be experiencing similar problems. So, I thought maybe some one could point me in the right direction on these two issues.
Thanks.

For the document editor there is a reader that isn't on the marketplace(don't remember where it was, sorry) but it doesn't work with the actual device yet, just the SDK version .9. I think for a lot of the real big apps(document reader/writer, 3D games, media streamer for your computer, real time turn by turn directions, etc) you're gonna have to wait at least a couple months, since it's gonna take a while for devs to make and fully test them.
Hotmail
You wont be able to have hotmail pushed down to your android mate MS wouldnt allow it so we will just have to put up with pull !!

Getting around Great Firewall of China with WM 6.5?

Greetings!
I've been looking for quite some time now for a way to get around the Chinese firewall on my phone. I have a paid VPN tunneling account that I use on my desktops but have had no luck getting my phone to access it. I tried openvpn client here but the program won't start on WM 6.5 (Energy Rom), all I get is "Default Ime" displayed in the upper right corner of the screen and nothing else. I've got the config, cert, ca.cert, and key files from my vpn service, but can't get the darn program to start to import them or initiate a connection.
Is there another way to do this? I really miss the Facebook integration (facebook blocked in China), YouTube (blocked), and Skype (blocked)....anyone had success with this client on WM6.5? HELP!!
THANKS!!
Am I really then only person who wants to use something like ultravpn on their Wm phone?
RealVNC makes a Mobile Viewer
you need to turn off the TouchFlo3d to see the openvpn icon
Start->Settings->Today and disable TouchFlo3d
A bit of a pain in the arse
Am still trying to get it work
Yeah, I found that. Have been getting down into the nitty gritty of the config file, I think I've got it sorted out and will be posting up here this weekend when I get some time to test. Thanks!
I am not sure if my issues are TAP Vs Tun issues. Hoping that I get to the pub early enough this weekend to get it sorted.
I sorely miss hulu.com- took them a while to twig that that the 194.xxx.xxx.xxx range was t-mobile UK.
BTW who do use for your VPN acc?
I have just signed up for a vpsville.ca openVpn account. Great price and they seem to be reliable- btw google for life-time discount codes.
Any progess with this? I have gotten to where I can get the client to connect to my vpn server and request my login info, but no dice getting the phone to route traffic through the vpn tunnel.
I've been using torrentfreedom but am looking to change as they have become REALLY unreliable lately. THanks for the tip on what you're using, checking them out now!
I hope we can get this working!
To be honest I've been too busy to play with the config files.
Forgot to mention that the vpsville.ca option is a vps server that you are allowed to run openvpn (or any other software that you want). The T&Cs say that it must be private use but I believe that you plus a friend or two on openvpn would be ok.
I like their refreshingly honest approach- unlike the those of firms/rackets such as fasthosts.co.uk.
vpsville say that you can pretty much do whatever you want so long as it is legal. I believe that they had a major ballsup last year but I have been with them for 6 months, a UK vps and a more basic USA vps and have been very happy.
Set up is pretty straight forward with root access- they have templates- if you (decide to go with them and) need help I can assist- although a Linux noob I had no real problems. Incidentally I dont need to log in with passwords etc as the set up is my own.
EDIT+++++++++++++++++++++++++
BTW what is your avatar- dont think I have seen it before- never studied archaeology
Remove openvpnmgr.lnk from Windows\StartUp folder
I got around this by removing the openvpnmgr lnk file from Windows\StartUp folder - seems like there are some bugs with the openVPN manager running on wm6.5 (it was even buggy in wm6.1) on my Sprint Touch Pro2.
any luck so far
hi guys..
were u successful in bypassing the firewall??? im also in china and tryiing to do exactly the same thing as u guys..
did u get openvpn working????
