I had this problem with my previous Pocket PC phones but never found a fix for it. My inbox (aka Messaging) is set to 'Connect and check for messages every 60 minutes'. Unfortunately, it does not check every hour but maybe once every few hours.
I am using SPB Pocket Plus and set the Messaging to exept from closing - so the Messaging is always up and running.
Anyone have some ideas or fix to this? My old Treo 600 was extremely reliable when it came to checking for emails every hour.
Also, does anyone know if I can change the interval from 60 minutes to 90 instead?
Thanks.
I 've noticed that too. The fact is, that if you have more then one accounts in the messaging, and you always do in fact, since ActiveSnc and SMS is always there. The software only checks email in certain interval when the appropriate account is active. So, for exmple if you have sent SMS to someone and this profile is active when you close or minimize Messaging, it will NOT check another email account

I use my XDA II to check my work emails which are in a POP3 account (connecting over GPRS when I'm out and about). This works ok, but...
What I find strange is that at each connection it seems to go through every single message on the server regardless of whether (1) the message is already downloaded or (2) it is several days old.
This is incredibly slow and expensive when you are getting about 300 messages a day.
(To expand on this, assuiming I get 300 messages a day and set the email to download messages only from the last 3 days, and only to download the first 3kb of each message - on each connection the mail client still works its way through all messages on the server, which could be about 1500, taking about 1 second for each one. Using GPRS monitor I see I use something like 700kb - 1Mb on each connection. Crazy! )
I notice other email clients, such as nPOP are able to simply check and download new messages on each connection. (using about 15kb or so a time) So why cant the inbuilt email program do this?? (I don't want to use nPop for various reasons).
Any hints or ideas would be much appreciated. :?:
I feel your pain. I tried setting up my yahoo mail using the internal pop account as well. It would always have to refresh over 1500 mail messages which would take up to a couple hours. I haven't been able to find much of a workaround for this either. Any suggestions?
Yes!
I have started a couple of threads on this topic, with no response. I found I got hit with over $500 in data roaming charges in Europe, doing email that with the palm operating system (snappermail) would cost me less than $50.
I think there are two solutions. One is qmail. Qmail can easily handle this problem -- you just tell it not to check mail over x days old. That is a simple program. But I favor the second solution, npop. Npop permits the same filter (I think).
I have tried these against poutlook, with phenomenal improvement. When there are 30 already downloaded messages on the server, poutlook may take 100KB just to check mail, while qmail takes 3KB and npop 1KB. The main disadvantages are
hard to use one-handed
no multipart html support in npop
can't reliably wake the wizard up to check mail automatically
but not only do these run lean, they also run 100% on the minisd card.
What won't help is flexmail -- it seems to just be a wrapper on poutlook.
Hi. I am using an unbranded Hero on Voda in the UK and everything seems to be more or less fine, except... I have a strange email problem.
I have set up my POP3 account to check and deliver mail every five minutes (I don't use Gmail for this) and it works absolutely flawlessly except that every few days it simply stops receiving. The phone seems to poll as usual, but the mail just doesn't arrive, although it is there and later arrives in my Outlook inbox on my PC.
I have made no changes, installed no new apps or really done anything at all before the mail stops arriving. The only way around it is to remove the account and set up a whole new one, which is a pain - the main problem, though, is that I miss emails until such a time as I realise that it has stopped working.
Email is VITAl to me - does anyone have an idea as to what I can do to get around this please?
Many thanks, in advance.
download K-9 mail from the market place.
Try it using this program. If it contniues to fail after a few days, the issue is with the network or the server and we know where to look for issues.
If it works, then it's the HTC Mail program that is at fault, but you now have a program which does not have the fault and you can now receive your emails ok.
Are you killing any tasks, I have found that you need the HTC mail program running for it to poll for the mails.

I am only killing Tweet and Stocks, but otherwise nothing. Can the mail programme turn off itself for any reason? Besides, it is polling - just not actually collecting anything. Many thanks!
Same problem
I know its an old thread but I didn't want to start a new one yet.
I'm having the same problem with my BT email. Its OK for a week or so then just stops fetching the emails from the server. I delete the account, re create it and it works fine again.
Any thoughts?
I've noticed that mine sometimes doesn't alert when it downloads the email, I get an alert but the actual sync time is 10-20 minutes before.

This has got so bad that I have had to 'turn off' the HTC mail function and downloaded the free k9 app, which is actually better, as it automatically deletes messages from the phone when you delete them from the server (or read them on your desktop.) I recommend it...
have you checked whether your trash folder is full? I was getting the same, and then once I went in and delted all the mail from the trash folder, I started getting mails again. There doesn't seem to be a way of automatically deleting mails from the trash folder?
Hi,
I have just updated to a windows 6.5 htc diamond2(htc pure) phone and previously i was using htc mda III with windows 5. My rom is default offical rom by at&T.
I am facing 2 problems regarding automatic sending/receiving of emails using new outlook on window 6.5(htc diamond2):
1) I cannot enter send/receive time interval into an input box as there is no option for this and i have to select the time interval only from dropdown list, which include send/receive Every 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 1 hr , 1 day and so on.. But i want to use outlook with automatic send/receive every 2 minutes and this option is not there is dropdown list of new outlook. Previously in windows 5 , there was a input box in outlook settings where we can ourself enter a numeric value for setting the time interval in minutes after which phone automatically send /receve mail. So any idea how to add send/receive every 2 minutes option in dropdown list of outlook in windows 6.5?
2) Previously when my phone display goes off(maybe phone goes in sleep/standby mode) after few secs of non usage the automatic send/receive part of outlook was still working in background and i use to get email message even when phone was in pocket , but in windows 6.5 i have to tap and wake the phone up manually and then automatic send/receive will work if the phone is awake. So automatic send/receive will not get emails when phone is in sleep/standby mode. This seems to be a big problem it was not there in windows 5. Any idea how to resolve this part?
It seems to me that window 5 was better in regards to above to 2 points. can we install windows 5 on htc diamond 2 ?
Any help in rectifying the above problem will be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
can anyone plz help with this
can one plz help with this, is there any registry changes that can modify this?
Thanks

Push Internet delivers when the e-mail hits the server, why set it to 2 minutes? What is the purpose?

Push Internet has nothing to do with this. All it does is refreshing the content of your HTC Sense bookmarks.
Back to the topic: I wonder what was your battery life with every 2 minutes of checking the emails, 5 minutes are more than enough IMHO. If not satisfied, try switching to some push mail solution, bad news is that the only officially supported stuff is MS Exchange (which is not free). Other alternatives don't seem to be stable and, you can't rely on them.
I use WM 6.5 myself on my Topaz and the problem you mentioned about not getting the emails while in sleep mode doesn't seem to be present. My emails arrive all the time, in a 30 minute interval (just like I set it). This seems to be a reg tweak made by ATnT or something. I suggest you to reset your device to factory settings and if it doesn't help, simply switch to another ROM. I use the Dutty's Holy Grail and I'm very satisfied. Contains the latest Sense from HD2 and runs pretty fast and reliably.

Yes, you're right, what I meant was Push Mail, through gmail as exchange server.
I do not set my device up to check at intervals, it gets pushed to my device when the e-mail hits the google server.

Hey guys,
I am having this really weird issue with my email (which is Yahoo mail). I would initially set up my email as usual, i.e. by entering username and password and let it do it's thing.
I had setup my email settings as "download messages for the past 3 days" but for some reason after leaving the phone in sleep mode for several hours (i.e. overnight, while charging or unattended at work), it will then start downloading everything in my inbox under yahoo mail which is around 3,5xx emails without me knowing! and then the phone will start to become very very sloooow... having manila running 90-95% at all times, (my observation) apparently windows mobile email is trying to sync everything from the inbox (after finish downloading) to HTC sense which is causing a Big Slowdown! which is i think the reason why manila runs at 90-95%.
this has been an issue for me since i bought the phone, so i always end up deleting the account on the phone so it'll stop the sync to HTC sense and stop manila from running 90-95%.
It is very annoying and i was wondering if there is anybody over here has experienced the problem and solved it?
i have also tried upgrading my rom to the current european 1.6x but no luck and still acting the same. I just don't want to stop using the email that i've been using for the last 9 years just because of this.
I will greatly appreciate any help.
Anyone>?????? anybody??????? i am sure some of you uses yahoo mail.
just wanted to find out, if anybody is under the same situation when using yahoo mail!
thanks
How did you add your account in the first place? You should just enter your email address and let the HD2 setup automatically.
I guess you setup pop3 instead?
I'm facing the same issue. I went to HD2 email setup, entered the email address, password and used the default yahoo settings which HD2 suggested.
For the first 2 days I kept getting all new emails. However on the 3rd day overnight it downloaded the whole yahoo mailbox with over 2500 emails. Had to delete the account and add it back a couple of times, but the issue keeps recurring.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong here. Is there any setting I need to change to prevent this from happening?
Chaps,
Don't know what settings you are using for Yahoo but if you want to restrict how many emails get downloaded to your device then do the following:
On the device go to Inbox>Menu>Tools>Options>Email Account (whatever you have called it). Tap on that and then tap on Send/Receive schedule.
Form here you can set the frequency of updates and how many days worth of emails you want downloaded onto the device.
Hope this is helpful
WB
This issue also exists on my Raphael. Started a few months ago for some reason.
No matter what you set your retention limit to (3 days, 7, etc) it always tries to pull everything and bogs the phone done like crazy. Last time I wiped it, it was set to 7 days and it had email dating back to Jun 09.
Any idea on a resolution? as it seems to be affecting various devices.
up to now, i am still experiencing this problem.
i have tried everything.. i.e. hard reset, flashing to duttys holy grail v.05 rom and after setting up everything, it will still the same issue.
this issue only applies to yahoo mail.. i never had issues with gmail.
i wonder if it's because i am not using mail plus which requires a monthly fee and benefit you to use outlook using forwarding.
i never had this issue wih the iphone, although if you search yahoo, they specifically support iphone and blackberry only and regular mobile phones.
i have this problem too. i think its has something to do with Yahoo POP settings rather than our device. Gmail has a much more advanced mail settings than Yahoo. The gmail (IMAP) which is free is much better than yahoo plus (POP).
delete the accoun and wehn setting up again choose advanced settings you will find what limits this things
Same problem here
Hello, I have this problem in my Touch Pro 2. Haven't found a solution yet but I think the problem is at yahoo mail b/c i have used other imap and pop emails w/o having this behaviour.
It's probably some maintenance yahoo does to their servers that changes each mail datetime and thus, the WM mail client bring all inbox items and the phone gets freezed.
If someone find a solution for this issue please let me know.
regards,
Yasel
Same problem...
I am seeing this for my Yahoo mail on my Imagio also. It doesn't matter what the settings are, every few days, my entire inbox starts downloading (10000+ messages) causing the phone to hang & requires a hard reset.
Has anyone found a fix?
crude workaround
weird, this has started to happen to me on my tp2 in the last couple of weeks, maybe yahoo is doing something to different servers on a rolling basis.
Until it's fixed I've set up a folder within yahoo via my pc where I've dumped all emails over a couple of weeks old. I haven't synced my phone with that folder so myinbox is limited to a couple of hundred mails at the most. Once the issue resolves itself I'll put them back.
Hi, I just got my HD2 last week and the email functions on it are bothering me a little bit. I just switched from a blackberry curve and here are some of the problems I am having.
my emails seem to be disappearing after some time (and I have not deleted them) are there auto delete settings somewhere that I am not seeing?
the BB I had always kept my emails until I specifically deleted them.
my BB seemed to get my emails almost immediately, where as on the HD2 it looks like it will only refresh as often as every 5 minutes? Can this be adjusted for a faster refresh?
thanks!

I think you can have only the last 50 emails for view, as for the refreshing you can set it to "As items arrive"
Use Active Sync to set up your email, then you can use Microsoft push email to get your email. Its a little harder to set up but works a lot better.
