My XDA II Mini always sends messages 2 times, sometimes together sometimes separately after a few hours. Same problem happened with my previous XDA II but after i've upgraded the 1.72 ROM for my XDA II this prob disapeared. Now with my XDA Mini it happens, how to fix this, is there any new ROM going to be released to handle the problem? Any idea will be welcomed.
I had the similar problem as well. But I found out that it was a bug. What you should do is when you send out a message, leave the phone in the messaging module till the Message Sent notification appears. When that happens the SMS will be sent once.
But if you send the message and before the message sent notification appears you close the messaging module, the SMS will be sent twice.
Try sending the SMS to yourself, trying both methods as mentioned you will notice the difference.
Miggs
SMS being sent twice often happens to those using SPB Pocket Plus, to solve it, try to add Exception in your 'Close Buttons' option, add 'tmail.exe' from Windows folder. That way, when you tap 'OK' on your Inbox, it wont be closed, but it'd run in background.
This bug is in all Pocket PC.
Thank klikman, work for me
wow i've been looking for info on this problem for ages. i'd almost given up. this should be in the wiki or stickied or something. (thread necromancy, i know)
Actually the problem is, when Messaging is closed before the "Message Sent" notification is displayed, sometimes the sms has already been sent but haven't been registered in the database. The next time you start Messaging, it detected that it has not sent the sms, so it send it again.
Now, this happens with any application that closes application when you tap the "X" button, eg: Spb Pocket Plus, pBar, WSTask, ect.

i usually turn on the flight mode at night, meaning the phone is off, my concern is, when somebody sent me sms while the phone is off, after turning ON the phone (flight mode-OFF) i still do not receive the sms sent ...
i should still be receiving the sms after turning ON the phone, right?
is there any setting in the xda2 to configure? or is it network dependent?
thanks.
Yes you should receive any outstanding sms messages,. I cant find any settings that address this in the inbox. I know that when using a Nokia phone I would switch it on and sometimes recive 4 or 5 messages that were sent when the phone was off, however now that you have mentioned it I cant recall ever receiving any pending sms when switching on the xda or xda 2. Maybe somebody else knows the problem or procedure with sms. I assumed that the message was broadcast once if the recipient was online but placed in pending on the system if phone was off, if that is the case I wonder what happens to the sms received while phone is off if we arent getting them when switching on.
i would say this is a problem with your mobile service provider.. if the phone aerial is off, the phone company holds the sms until the phone registers itself on the network again, it shouldn't have anything to do with the phone
More than one SMS sent every sending message
Guyz i got sms issue 2. But my version is everytime i send one message 2 the recipient. The recipient will get 2 or 3 messages from me. I've cross checked with another phone, and find out that it isn't operator issue. I think it has something 2 do with the radio version or protocol version of the WM2003SE ROM. Coz before i upgraded, everything just seems fine. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you using SPB Pocket Plus or another app that really closes a program when you press the x? The problem you describe is normally encountered when you close the messaging app ( really close it, not minimize it) before you get the pop-up that the message was sent. If you close the program before you get that message, the messaging app thinks the sms is not sent and resents it, 2 or three times. To evade this, just add tmail.exe ( for T-Mobile branded units, for other branding just add the name of the message app for that unit) to the exceptions list in Pocket Plus or any other program you use to close programs. Then the notification that the message is sent will appear normally on your screen and the device nows that the message is sent. Remember that the messaging app is minimized instead of closed when you do this, so be sure to close the app through start-settings-memory to avoid it staying loaded in your RAM.
For SPB Pocket Plus, go into the SPB options, click on Close Button, feature options, and add the program to your exceptions list.

Yes, i use SPB Pocket Plus. Thx 4 d solution. I really appreciated. I'll try this soon.
You are welcome! BTW, I just tested it, and when I turn on fliht mode, my sms-es are qeued untill I switch flight mode off. Then I receive the queued sms-es on my Magician. If this does not work on a phone, I guess this is a problem with the provider.
every time i send a short text message, it deducts 48p off my balance instead of 12p.
POS!
whats wrong with it ?
are you using pocket plus or other programs which really close applications insted of the normal minimize ?
Same for me : Text messages are sent twice !!!
Doesn't really bother me as I don't have to pay for it anyway (thx a lot, boss ) but it is pretty annoying for the recipient
Using the default SMS-programm (Messaging) on my BA with WM2003 SE
There is a bug when sending txts that I found. Look at the characters and pages. For some reason if you use T9 and it auto punctuates more than once (sometimes just the once) it will shorten the txt message to half therefore sends 2 or more. It's stupid but just keep an eye on the counter and manually remove punctuation e.g, there's to theres and it will be fine... I only found this out after months of double and triple txt messaging charges.
Thx a lot for the feedbacl, although the problem/issue I'm facing is slightly different as I'm not using T9 and the message is not being split up.
It is exactly the same message that is being sent twice

That's no bug.
SMS are shortened whenever the phone switches to unicode (which is necessary for using some unconventional characters)
But the Qtek devices show clearly how many chars can be sent in one SMS and even how many SMS will be sent.
Simply watch the counter at the bottom before sending an SMS and avoid characters demanding unicode.
Sascha
okay. will do.
cheers.
rite...
Well im using the 02 300 free texts and mine gets sent 3-4 times. even thou i avoid using T9 and Unicode characters (annoys me) but i donno why, is there a solution to it. cheers :?

Does O2 deliver the same SMS 3-4 times to the recipient or do they "split" the message into 3-4 messages.
In the latter case, you are definitely using unicode characters.
In the first case you should contact your provider.
And don't forget: watch the counter before sending.

Double txt messages
Hi,
I am getting the smae problem every message I send is getting sent twice from the XDAII.
Doesnt matter if the txt is <160 chars or multiple messages.
The receiving device receives the message.
Then sometimes (NOT ALL THE TIME) it will send a duplicate message.
Usually (but again not all the time) the duplicate is sent later when the XDA is used again, after turning it back on.
Any one any clues?
It does run PocketNav as a task switcher/killer and I am going to diable it to check this as a cause.
Thanks in advance
This is a bug from spb Pocket plus when closing the SMS application while message is still sending, try not to close the SMS app while message is still sending.
me too...me too....while using XDA II sending msg, receipient get 2 msgs...i m using spb pocket plus and some chinese translation software...which is the cause of the problem?..
The cause is 'tmail.exe'. If you are using spb Pocket Plus you need to do the following:
1. Tab on Start, Settings
2. Select System to launch Spb Pocket Plus
3. Tab on the Features Options that will bring you to Close Button panel.
4. Tab on Exceptions that will show you a panel 'Listed programs will always be minimized when tap the X button'
5. Tab on the ADD button and a pop-up box will display. Then select tab on the Browse.
6. A panel will be displayed showing all the directories. Then tab on the '+' sign of the Windows Directory to expand it.
7. Scroll down till you find a program 'tmail.exe' and tab on it to select it.
8. Lastly, tab on the OK button and it will bring you back to the Close Button panel. In the box it will showed that you have selectet the 'tmail.exe'. Then tab on the OK button on the top right corner.
9. That's all. It should work. On a safe side do a Soft Reset.
You won't have mail sending twice and you will be prompted immediately when the is an incoming mail.

Also that problem without Spb Pocket Plus installed
Hi y'all. I have an IMate Jam PM10A (former T-Mobile MDA) and I'm having the same problems. My sms messages are delivered twice, the 1st immidiatly, the 2nd sometimes an hour later. I do not have SpB Pocket Plus Installed, here is what i do have installed:
# Xvid Codec
# Smart Movie Lonely Cat
# IRemote Majeres
# Windows Theme Switch Today
# Pocketmind Pocketmusic
# Virtual Display Nyditot
# Resco Explorerer 2003
# Wisbar Advance
# Laridan Pocketbible
# Todayinfo Lou Terailloune
# Calendarplus Mohairsofa
Could the Wisbar Advance be the problem=
V-Bar
I'm sending multiple sms as well
Im not using pocket plus but i do use the T9 autocomplete so will turn that off and see, think i do send small multiple sms as well, also i use V-Bar which closes applications so i have removed that and will see if anymore ppl complain about me spamming the multiple sms
Anyone got any idea if any of the following problems cause conflicts in a similar way to pocket plus
pocketxpdf
smartflash
genocide device status on today
pocketmind pocketmusic
david andres battii
art in code screen switch
vbar

Hi Rudegar,
You mentioned - POCKET PLUS to other user ...
Both my XDA IIi and my wife's XDA mini-s send same message multiple times. I will always receive the message immediately and then again when my wife 'activates' her phone in some way, and vice-versa.
We both use Pocket Plus - Is this the cause. I have been stripping away third party software for amateur developers but I reckoned Pocket Plus seemed 'safe'
Tony - [O2 ireland network]
pocket plus have an option which terminate (really close application rather then minimize them) when people press the X
this is as far as i know useless and a wish people comming from windows on pc like because they dont know that win ce automaticly close unused applications when it require the memory those applications is using
so one can safely turn off that "real" close of application unless one get serious slowdowns from using applications which eat alot of mem
otherwise excluding outlook from the "real" close option is a way to avoid it
or to not close outlook with the x before one gets the msg is sendt icon on the title bar of
Thank You
Thank you Rudegar,
I was fairly sure I had replied to your very helpful post when indeed I hadn't - So, Thanks again, your help pointed me in the right direction to sort my problem!
Its true. After my upgrade to QTEK 2.17.7.2 WWE my wizard sends sms twice. first when I sent it and repeats when later I open messaging app.
Anyone has experimenting these annoying problem. Do you know how to sort it? Thank you

Do you have a taskmanager such as SPB Pocket Plus or Magic Button installed with the option to really close programs? If zo, add \windows\tmail.exe to the exeptionlist to prevent the sms program is really closes, this could solve your problem.
same problem with same ROM but fr version. :x I've no solution....
I'm interesting by a simply explanation :!:
1-2tje:
Yes I have spbpocketplus. I'll do what you suggeat and test. Thank you
I have the same problem but with MultiMedia messages (not text messages) being sent twice. I think tmail.exe handles those too, so I'll try your suggestion.
Andre
If it doesn't work (e.g. for MMS), try adding the file "poutlook.exe" in the \windows folder to the exeption list.
This seems to happen when you close the messaging application before the text message is sent. If you wait 2-3 seconds after sending your sms before you close the messaging application you should not get this problem.
Re: Sending twice
Hi all, I thought i'd add my findings to this.
It has happened since the Wallaby's this has. I found it was down to not waiting for the "sms sent" nitification. If you shut the app before you get that notification it sends them twice. If you wait for the notification and then shut, you'll be ok.
I haven't tested this on the wizard as i use SmartSkey to close, which has an exception list, messaging being one of them so i only ever minimise it, but this was certainly the case on the older models.
I've got an XDA Mini S on the O2 network, and people keep telling me that they are receiving my texts twice :?
Does anyone know why this is, or how I can fix it?
Hi Gazhowell
I had the same problem with mine on O2. Found the problem to be SPBpocket plus on the phone! Try not to close the text messages window until you get the message sent confirmation.
I was closing it just as it had sent so when i opened it again it would send again without a notification!
Hope this helps.
Blimey that was a quick reply
I do have spb so I'll try your suggestiong about keeping the window open. Thinking about it now I have been quickly closing it before waiting for the sent confirmation.
Seems an annoying little bug though.
It is not a bug. SMS just cannot be closed while sending. Try to add tmail.exe into hidding (not really closing) apps [in close settings in spb].
In my point of wiev on pda's with phone Contacts and Messages should be hidden, not closed. It speed up opening a lot. While using phone this two features are used most.

Thanks for that - I'll give it a try
Yeh i found the same issue when i was closing it too quick!!
give it a shot and let us know how it goes.
Savac has a good point actually. it really should be set to hide as opposed to close that would cure the problem.
good luck!
sms twice
i also had the same problem but didnt have spb installed then so it isnt that that is causing this problem i just wait too till see confirmation message
SMS TWICE
Any suggestion ? Maybe any tweaks or reg modifications ? I wait for confirmation about sms sent, but after wakeup my wizard sending sms second time anyway .
Easy fix don't use Spb Plus
This not only goes for SPB Plus, but for every task manager that really closes apps instead of minimizing them like the standard Wm5 behaviour. They all close the tmail.exe too soon, thereby causing the app to think that the sms was not send and sending it again. Just wait for the "message sent"pop-up before you close the messaging app and you should be fine. Alternatively, you can make an exception in your task manager that tmail.exe is not really closed but only minimized. That also works of course.
The trouble is that all my SMS are sent twice, once when i Tap "send" and always when i recieve a SMS. Someone told me it was a Bug with the O2 Rom, and fixed with latest Update, but i already run the newest O2 Rom...
I would flash the Dopod Rom, where evrything is fine ( i already tried ), but Transcriber is English then, and many German words are misunderstood...
Do you have any Ides ?
Can i install the German transcriber somehow ?

I used to get this problem on my Magician (O2 Xda II mini). I found that if I tapped on 'send' and then closed the messaging app, the OS sent the message but was unable to remove the copy from the Outbox. So the next time the mail app was opened, it found the message in the outbox and sent it. That's how you end up with two messages getting sent.
The only way to stop this is to wait until the 'message sent' notification is displayed after you send a text. This way you know that the OS has had time to clean up.
Seems silly I know, but I think it is just the way the OS works. I have not seen this yet on the Prophet but then maybe I have just trained myself to wait for the notification!
Mhm, this maybe it !
I wondered that everytime i recieve a Message, it says "Message send"
Thanks for the Info, i will have a look at this.
Do you have SPB Plus on your pda? Or another program to close applications?
Yes !
Someone told me that i can do two things to prevent Outlook from sending :
a) Wait 5 seconds until i get the notification "Message send"
b) Add /windows/tmail.exe to the exceptions in SPB Plus, so that Outlook (tmail.exe) is never closed, but always minimized.
Both work !
I have had this on every ROM that I have tried.... and as mentioned previously, I now just wait till "Message Sent" appears. I am using Wisbar Advance to close programs, which closes them totally down leaving the SMS in the Outbox therefore sending twice.
