Hi,
do you know any software, wich will show operator name and other cell info (like credit or location info) in today screen.
I did found PhoneToday (http://www.burroak.on.ca/ptoday.html) it shows operator name, but no other info and it's not free :x
thanks
MY|PHONES
I made something like you asked.
www.jgui.net/todays/
but this is not working with all devices. XDAII users reported: isn't. Some users or XDAIII reported: ok, some: no. I made and designed it for original XDA. I plan to get newest devices on the beginning of new year and I will improve to fix problems.
TO JGUI, and all PROGRAMMERS
Jgui, u can do something better,
1) Operator Logo (u put just one, and users can load anything)
2) Cell Info Local Info and Credit (dunno if possible, I never seen)
3) Power Signal (graphic and in %)
4) Power battery remaining in Standby
5) Power battery remaining in Conversation (doing some sort of calculation (if 100% of power battery = 10h of conversation then 50% of battery = 5h of conversation))
Maybe I said all s**t, but a lot of people wants these.
JGUI, I hope in a little sacrifice, that will be payed.
Best regard,
battery plugin
there are at least few good today screen's plugins to show up the battery status and condition. why to do it again?
network telecom logo
about telecom logo: I don;t know is it a good idea? there is a so little space on today screen to read all necessary infromation. so I don't waste a space for any not too much important graphics, even don't want icons.
If I preffer and want to review just a list of last phone calls, last messages and only a few following appointments, the space is full.

Hey, I always whished there was a combination between My| Phone and MY | calendar, I love the big font on the time, but I don't really care for the Horoscope, or the population of the earth, if instead of that, it will show the operator, and the signal strentgh, that would be ideal!
Yorch,
why don't you just hide the zodiac and population lines?
I know I can do that, but I hide it and is just empty space, I would like to be in one plugin, the combination of the 2 plugins, the today screen is a very limited space, so every space is precious, I like the fact that the time is big, and also the calendar, but if it had the other readings, like the Operator and the signal strength, would be an excellent "all in one" plugin.
Dunno if u have Battery Pack, on this app there is a gif showing a classic 1.5v battery with a % of charge in it.
it would nice to take it as example.
Telecom Logo that is full or empty with % of signal
take a look
they should be 2 of them, one with GSM signal and another without GSM signal.
Colored when signal is present and Black&White when signal is off, or when xda is in flight mode.
Power signal in % is ok, but graphically would better
Cell Broadcast with Local Info (eg. Roma, Firenze)
dunno if is possible to do, it would be great
Yes, there are too many today apps that show battery status, but they dont say battery status of minutes of conversations
If I can help, I can translate in italian (I did it on last version of My|Phone but I worked hard on .dll)
ps.
Hey, what the hell is that skin ? I like it ! =)
We Hope in you )

it's not a skin, the above are screenshots from my new upcoming replacement of the deault Phone program, it gives you the personalized anwering machine and caller/sender localization on the map. incl. text-to-speech engine inside to read you alerts how many missed calls you have every 5 minutes for example to remind you.
Hey JGUI
To tell the truth I've tried ALL programs I could find both as a phone replacement and a Today plugin. I didn't find one which I could say was worth staying with. They were all either imatured (didn't feel polished and stable) or they were laking other functions that other had, I mean there was no one complete solution I could stay with. Finally, for the phone app I decided to stay with the Interllidiale on my PDA2K as a phone replacement and Pocket Zen Phone as the profile manager.
I'm a CTO, my speciality is Web applications and human engineering/interface design. If you ever want some tips to make the ultimate today plugin or phone app drop me a line.
Just a quicky: I fantasize of a Today Plugin that would work like Pocket Zen Phone, but will also include missed calls, cellular provider, last call, new emails, new sms. That will also remind me of missed calls and SMS every X minutes. A one decent phone app that once and for all will include ring tones for categories and individuals (MTU RingX doesn't always work) and that will also include caller photos and that would maybe integrate with PI or Agenda Fusion. I hate associate a picture in 3 different apps: Pocket Informant, Caller Photos(the internal IA-styler of the XDA) and another app. seems silly. The ability to say the caller name in a senthesized voice would be excellent. Maybe the caller name in synthesized voice then a ring and then the voice again.
That's just what comes to mind, but I can probably write several pages on this issue, I feel 5% of the ability of my PDA2K as a phone is actually used.
upcoming changes
merci Sorci,
very interest point of view.
I can only say, that the new version of Phone Profiles will have the caller/sender id photos and sounds in the new way of organize incl. groups from Contacts (and all numbers are connected to names in Contacts).
when new phone call is incoming, the PP will do:
1. check if the number of caller/sender has the compatible name of photo image or sound file (inside the specified folder, incl. storage card) - if found it will be displayed/played, but if not:
2. check if the number of caller/sender has the group name from your Contacts, if it has it checks if the group name has the compatible name of photo image or sound file (as above) - if found it will be used, but if not:
3. check if inside the above folder you have default photo and sound file for "unknown" number, if found it will be used, if not:
4. display the default photo and play the default sound
are the above descriptions a definitively useful organization for id photo and sound? I written caller/sender because it works for phone calls, sms, email messages the same way. I re-write the part of this feature, it recognizes caller number much more faster and much more faster looks through folder to find the image or sound file. of course I have tens numbers in my Contact, I'm afraid that for someone who uses hundreds numbers we cannot display id photo conveniently.
int the same way as I written above, the history log runs now: it sorts phone calls by groups, numbers, times, types.
in the same way as I written above, the answering machine runs: I can write a few different announces and specify which one to use with selected number or group from my Contacts. even more, it can sort left messages by groups numbers etc.
next: do we want a TTS engine to speak up the name of caller/sender? always? I'm not sure, because I can image that in the most cases I don't want that somebody near me will listen who call me. maybe I think wrong? The basic feature of TTS engine will be to announce me (remind) about missed phone calls and received messages. And do that permanently every 3,5,10,15 minutes until I touch the screen.
but: if we put more features we should expect more difficulties and dependiences> for example: I make Phone Profiles to easy and quick change all rings sounds and alerts.... when I go inside the cinema. but if I have the above spoken reminder of missed calls/messages I have to include such a function to Phone Profiles too. because I dont want to hear spoken reminder when I'm in the cinema.
RE: MY|PHONES
I dunno, why you said, that it doesnt work on XDA II
but IT'S WORKING
XDA II, Wm2k3 SE (ROM 2.06, Radio 1.18 ).
Nice thing, i'm very happy about that, just one thing would be nice. Those additional cell info.
Thanks, you helped me much.

happy to hear
I'm glad to hear it works on XDAII. I rather soundl said: some users of XDAII reported: it does not run, some others said: it works.
It did run on myy xda II (i-mate 1.72 rom)
but only after 10 seconds my device did a soft-reset
after 10 seconds another soft-reset..
and the loop didn't end
so i could hardly uninstall it..
Caller Name or Number Announce
MS VoiceCommand 1.5 does this.
You need to modify your ring to allow 1.75 seconds in front so the caller name (voice) doesn't speak over the ring itself.
I can't take credit for this, someone else in the forum made the change, but it works great.
JGUI
myphonecalls works with my O2 XDA IIs with no problems so far (little over an hour) if you like I can report back in a day or two with an update. So far I am impressed this is exactly what I am looking for!!!!!
Thank you
Is this app (I mean the callendar screen) compatible with Pocket informant or just with the original PPC callendar?

not a matter
this is just a monthly calendar display, no connection to outlook or another calendar's like (PIM) applications. it is not showing any appointments or event, just the preview of one month.
by the way, the ccurent version allows you to preview the new upcoming calendar format, proposed by "calendar reform"

Every couple of months for the past 3 years a new rumor about an Apple-branded PDA emerges. And every single time it proves to be nothing but a rumor.
Well, I decided to stop waiting and make my JAM look like an Apple device in what I'm calling "The iPocket Project".
The project is comprised of re-skining the interface and every application possible with apple-like look & feel. I work in the design industry and it won't be aproblem for me to create the designs, but I'll need some help turning the graphics into usable skins. Here are the steps I'm going to take to achieve this:
- Wallpaper
- PhoneAlarm Skin
- Interface Skin (through 3rd party app)
- Intellidialer Skin
- Intellipad Skin
- Phone Dialer
- Windows Media Player Skin
- Sugar cube trick to get rid of the iMate Logo
- Adding an Apple Logo
Any help will be greatly appreciated and, of course, all the pieces will be available here for free download.
To get things started, here are the first JPGs I've created:

Howard Short, I know you are really good with dialer skins. Wanna give me a hand?
You do realize that it won't ever function as seamlessly as an Apple, no matter how you skin it, right?
If you are prepared to offer Wisbar Advance 2 and Snoopsoft Dashboard your patronage, you can have an interface like this one:
http://www.lakeridgesoftware.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1767&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
http://www.aqua-soft.org/board/showthread.php?t=22310&goto=nextnewest
Unfortunately, the links are down due to Duckie's server bandwidth being exceeded, but the QVGA version has been temporarily uploaded to the following location:
http://s7.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1HZMH6TJP9ROS08EY5YBA0WBC0
I was already a registered owner of Wisbar Advance, but soon became a registered owner of Dashboard based on the strength of this skin. It goes a long way to transforming the PocketPC interface into something useful rather than just being pretty as well...
Also be sure to check out Buz Lightyear's fantastic keyboard skins in these forums as well. He made a beautiful OS X style one.
By the way, I love your dialer skin graphic! I think there is a tool to allow you to create a .psk file (or something like that) which allows a 3rd party tool to install it. I'll do some hunting...
EDIT: Howard has provided the links to the PSK creator here http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=35335. However I am not sure if it will do the intellidialer parts (which you have in your screenshots). I guess if someone (Howard?) has a photoshop file or similar with the necessary cutting lines it should be straighforward to chop those parts out into the necessary in* files to be copied to the \Windows dir. Also, I should be able to knock up the necessary DLL that would be needed to provide the depressed states for those buttons if you can provide a graphic incoporating the depressed states you would like to be seen.
Heck, if nobody steps forward, just post up png/bmp/gif files of exactly what you want seen in the dialer and I will chop it up for you.
EDIT2: Link to buz_lightyear's excellent keyboard skins: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=16303&highlight=keyboard
Cheers,
Zet
Ok, I have created a Photoshop document with the necessary slices set up to allow creation of the various images necessary for the dialer, including the intelidialer section. Ipload it somewhere later. Working on a landscape one shortly. malencar, all I need are the graphics, including down-states and I can package the dialer up into a CAB or a ZIP.
Note that I am currently investigating how to not have the dialer overlay the graphics with it's own text. It doesn't appear to use strings in the registry, so I am checking the dialer code to see if those strings are in resources. Basically we would want the strings removed or at least want the font adjustable. It's currently touch and go whether the fonts can appear the same as in your picture. No problem with the button graphics though. BTW, what font did you use?
I've made a new, refined version for the Dialer. Here it is:
Zetsurin, I'll PM you the link to download the original PSDs I'm working on.
Cheers
Malencar, that's looking awesome! The only technical hitch currently is that the dialer software currently overlays all button graphics with white text in the standard system font. ie. not what we want. I'm looking into it for now, trying to get the DLL's out of my PDA at the moment and will take a closer look... Tempted to just start extending the open source dialer D9 (www.pocketgamer.com/D9) to accomodate those graphics. That would also provide an opportunity to create a dialer which is much better for single handed operation but also a lot more work... the built in HTC dialer app, for all it's fault does seem to be quite tweakable, so there is still hope yet.
Zetsurin,
Here is the version with separated blue buttons so it can work with the white font. For the PSD just go to the same link I sent you before on the PM. I've also included a cut-out blue button with no text to make your life easier ;-)
WMP10 Skin - iTunes Pocket. This version is audio only (anothe one with video coming soon). I'll work on the button pressed states and upload soon.
malencar,
Well one the way with the dialer skin. Should be ready sometime this evening (or your morning)
I had to manually remove the text from the Talk button, as the dialer (man, the standard dialer is CRAP) insists on overlaying the text on that as well. Anyway, it's looking pretty good. Expect a ZIP file later with all the images.
Cheers,
Zet
Malencar,
Here's an early file for the dialer. Not all the images are done yet (some of the buttons, and also none of the intellidialer section), but it serves as a good checkpoint on the progress so far. Just copy the files in the ZIP to your /Windows directory on your Pocket PC.
Maybe this is what you want to achieve???
This is totally IPocket isn't it? Although it's another device, it could be done with a JAM and that would take you less work! And menu-structures could be the same as Apple...
By the way, could you maybe post Mediaplayer skin you made?
The all white dialer skin and Pocket Itunes skin for WMP are great. Mind hooking me up with both of them ?

nice job guys! Just for the 411 wisbar advanced is not compadable with pocket pc phones period. Even the latest beta is a no go. The caller ID does not work when wisbar advanced is going. As for these other skins and phone dialers they rock!
Mike
Guys, as for skinning the OS, it just doesn't get better than Duckie's skin IMHO.
I run Wisbar Advance 2 (latest beta, not the .10 final which isn't compatible with Phone Edition) and Snoopsoft Dashboard. I think it's a magic combination. Check out the attached screens...
Aiight people,
Version 0.1 (beta) of the iDialer is here. Zetsurin and I put this together and it is working fine. The Portrait and Landscape versions are included as is the Intellidialer skin. Just drop all the files in your \windows folder and you're good to go.
I'll upload a version with minor refinements as soon as possible.
On another subject, anybody out there willing to put the WMP10 skin together? The design is ready and I can send the PSD file to whomever is willing to help.
Cheers
Malencar
Sorry to tell you but the latest beta in wisbar advanced does not work correctly with the pocketpc phone. The caller ID does not work. So if you don't care about caller ID I guess then you are ok . Try calling your voice mail and then while in your voice mail have someone call you. You will hear the audio beep saying someone is trying to call you but no notification and no way to switch to the other call.
Mike
Also the arrow back button is covered by the intellidialer skin. Any reason why?

Yeah, this is the first beta so, it definitely needs tweaks. The back button thing is a mystery to me. I fixed it and made the button smaller but for some reason it keeps stretching to the size you see now.

Actually, I just double-checked and I have the .24 beta. Anyway, I guess I'm not so popular as I have never had a situation of someone calling me while I was on another call It does tell me who is calling me when it's ringing though, so caller id in that sense seems to be OK. Anyway, that version works fine for everything I do on my mini, so I won't bother upgrading until all issues are ironed out. It must be a pain for the author to get it working right, don't you just wish there was a bit more standardisation in the design of these phone devices, that sure would make it easier for the developers.
I suggested the following to Spb ( because I use Spb Pocket Plus & Spb Diary )
But mabye ( I know there is a tool for Ringtone Profiles, but I want more! ) there is a software out there that maybe does what I am looking for.
----
Hi, I have an idea for either a new product or a plugin for Pocket Plus. I call it "Power Profiles". As a business & private user of an MDA Vario I also have docking stations, one at home and one in the office.
Many MDA Vario Users ( which is basically the HTC Wizard ) use their PPC the same way I do. So bascially when I get into the office, first thing I do is turn of the phone volume and give the PPC only half the volume ( for appointments, reminders, etc. ).
One special thing on some dockingstations is that you can have your PPC sitting in front of you ( in the docking station ). My dock has the neat option that you have the MDA sitting their in landscape mode, which is great but also bad at the same time. Because with Diary & Pocket Plus installed in landscape their just isn't enough space on the screen.
So the Plugin would create Profile Shortcuts and do the following. I have two profiles setup, one called HOME the other called OFFICE.
I tap on a shortcut on the today screen (OFFICE) it:
1. Sets the volumes as I need them
2. Turns the screen into landscape
3. Turns off Pocket Plus ( or hides it, it only matters that Diary gets the full landscape view )
4. The Display light gets turned up all the way
Once I am on my way home, I tap on the another shortcut (HOME) which then:
1. Sets the volumes as I need them
2. Turns the screen into normal view
3. Turns ON Pocket Plus ( or makes it visible again )
4. The Display is set to my normal level ( two levels under the max )
Of course their could be lots more stuff that a realy Profile Program could/should do ( Different Ringtone Settings, Different Theme in the Office then at Home - don't wanna show your boss your girlfriend all the time now do you ;-), Different Items displayed on the Today Screen, etc. etc. )
So maybe you are able to think about my suggestions, it would be a great addition to your product portfolio I believe )
Very good idea! Not seen any software like that and just done a search in my normal sites - mainly freeware. Maybe a commercial one somewhere but none on a google search. Hope SPB listen to you
Hmm, funny, i was thinking in the same direction.
And why not let the 'Power on/off and 'USB connect' (etc) events trigger the profiles also ?
After developing the Tomtom Navigate2 script, i think i can do it, if i get enough information on the desired settings.
- Like BT on/off ; Needs a 'real' tool, there's no internal command, and changing regkey ain't enough.
So solved it with a script that calls BTon/BToff tool and changes regkey of the BT headset profile:
Ok, BT On/Off + BR Profile Toggle works !
What do i need then ?
"What setings should be changeable ? "
My suggestion :
- BT + BT HeadsetProfile (Done !)
- "ActiveSync when Craddled" option On/Off (Done !)
- Change Today Theme ? Would be nice.. (Not even looked at...)
The suggestions i just heard :
- Change ScreenRotation (isn't there a free tool for it ?)
- Change Today Items.
- Change Display Birgightness.
"How do we change these settings ?"
- BT is done,
- ASync is done,
- Screen rotation; Need commandtool (Doesn't VJ have a tool that does this ?) + Subroutine for script. So done, apart from writing it in the tool
- Screenrotation; if there is a commandtool for it, same as for 'Screen Rotation'
- Change Today items; Haven't got a clue, is thanging regkey and refersh today enough ?
- Display brightness; idem as Today Items....
So, let's get it rolling then
That would be so wonderful if this could be achieved! I have absolutly no plan on how do to it - but I have the ideas 8)
Pocket Plus lets you also rotate the screen with a tap on the screen, but what I wanted to achive is automation - simply by click ONE shortcut it does the whole thing for me - I am know I am a lazy person but hey thats a reason I got myself a PPC
This is similar to the one thing I miss from my nokia phones which is one click profiles for outdoor, indoor, meeting, etc. hope something comes of this.
What about PocketZenPhone???
PZP lets you set up anywhere from 2 to 7 profiles, controlling virtually everything you might associate with a profile, such as:
- ring / vibrate / volume / flash (and about a dozen variant combinations)
- the above for notification on just about any kind of event
- power settings for each profile both on battery and corded power
More features than it makes sense to list here. But I've been playing with it over the last couple of days. Very clean, and very functional. Many ways to use it also -
- today plugin (just tap an icon to switch profiles)
- task tray popup
- menu
- automated switching in sync with pocket Outlook
I've also traded email with the developer (zendrui) and it turns out to be pretty straightforward to get MS Voice Command to also switch profiles - I should have this all set up in the next hour. Love the idea of tapping the button to invoke Voice Command and just telling it to go to "silent" or "meeting", and having all settings adjusted at once.
Pocket Zen Phone
Hello all,
Check http://zendrui.free.fr . This sw is very good and keeps beeing updated.
Yes, this is a great program.... it is amazingly small for what it does and it does an amazing amount. It even controls which radio's are on or off and when.
Anyway... here is the link to open the forum thread that has 6.0 beta 7 http://zendrui.free.fr/PZPForum/viewforum.php?f=5
When I had Nokia phone, I used a program called miniGPS from Psiloc.com. This was the best program for profile switching. It worked by detecting all the cells at a location and allowing those cells to be put into a group. Then I could create events like "upon entering group, switch to meeting profile, turn off bluetooth, map the keys to do this...change screen saver, change wallpaper to this one..." etc. and upon exit from the cell group, change the ringer volume to max, switch wallpaper, and so on. Unfortunately, the Windows mobile equivalent of this program does not work on 8125. The PocketZenPhone is nowhere close. It works on fixed time basis. What if at that time I am not in office? Though I like the 8125, I badly miss the miniGPS program. It is sad that such a nice utility is not available for Windows.

That is a awesome... I never new it existed. Add that to the forum for ZenPhone to see if they can add that functionality.

Sounds really powerful, although I'm not sure I'd want the phone deciding when to switch profiles for me.
I've been experimenting with a set of shortcuts to invoke each profile, renaming them to be meaningful to me, such as, "HomeProfile", "OfficeProfile", "Silent", etc. Then I can use Voice Command to switch by saying something like "Run Silent" or "Run HomeProfile"...and it does.
One thing I liked about the built-in profile capability on the Nokia's we have is the fact that they would switch to my headset profile when I plugged in a pair of headphones, or when I simply turned on my pre-paired BT headset -- THAT was nice. I'd be curious to see how WM5 recognizes such an event -- I'd think that zendrui, the author of PocketZenPhone, would be able to hook such an event and offer us the option of having it trigger a profile change.
Here is the freeware version of Pocketzenphone 4.5.1 tested on my phone and works well. You have to fiddle with the settings but I got it working properly . If you like it can buy the full version 5 euros I think which is cheap. (me prob will)
I bought the currently shipping version (5.52?) and it works fine...but I wanted to try installing the shortcuts to invoke the various profiles, and the cabs that automatically create and install them (and the associated EXE's) in the right dirs assume NEW directory structures different than what the currently shipping version (5.52) uses. Instead, the new dir structure corresponds to the beta of version 6.0 -- currently at beta 7 I believe, and quite stable. I suspect it's nearing commercial release.
Anyway - ver 6 beta 7 can be downloaded free, and will function for a month. If you like it, it's something like $8 directly from the site, or $10 via Handango or a couple of others. This also buys you all future releases, and the author continues to upgrade this regularly. It's a good deal.
I tried to download 6.0 beta 7 but unable too. If anyone else has any joy please post
what about this one found on modaco http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=205779? it's free and wm5 compatable. i've not tried it. if you do, please report your opinion.

Just looking at the screens suggest to me that, while this one might work, it has far less control than PZP. Might be worth a try, but I like controlling power, backlight, vibration, etc along with ringtones and volume.
The Modaco Tool works, but as stated is by no means as powerful as ZenPhone.
Another problem with the modaco tool for me ( and many others, just check their forum ) is that after you UNINSTALL the tool it will most likely mess up your ringtones/settings.
Lucky me I had a backup of my system so I could recover without a hitch. The problem was that I had some weird ringtones listed that did not work and were actually never on my system and I could not choose any other ringtones after the uninstall.
I am gonna give Zenphone a try, it looks promising but also time consuming to setup - will give it a go this evening.
thanks jon for both tips. pzp beta won't download I think cuz I am browsing on pda and sometimes cabs won't download. Got ppcprofiles though great find well done. Initial testing promising.

For those who don't know PocketCM or ContactManager, it's a contact application:
What it does:
- Can be used completely with finger, no need for stylus
- tapping the contact make appear a screen with contact info (photo, name, phone, sms and mail). Selecting one option launch the default compose dialog or make the call. You can also change the contact picture from the detail directly.
- display contact photo if present (in the list and the contact detail).
- allow you to see SMS conversation history
- fully skinnable
- All basic contact operation
- Access to WM contact application if required (for some specific operation taht can't be done using PCMC).
Build a theme:

History
For a complete changelog, you can look here.
Version 0.15
* Edit before call option: press a call button for 250ms, you'll be able to edit the number
o If you press a contact for 250ms in the list, you can call the contact directly
* SMS optimization, read message faster, doesn't block the device
* Support for second and third e-mail address.
* 40% improved startup time
* PocketCM 0.10 support
* Fixed for landscape mode
* Bug fixes
* Lighter executable, about 200Kb less
Version 0.14
- Current index position indicator
- Better list scrolling feedback at beginning and end of list
Option menu to choose theme (Theme don't need to be called theme.cmt anymore, they can be called anything.cmt. Put them in the program folder, hold the phone button for a second, choose option, then choose theme, and pick the one you like)
- SIP setting is persistant and independant of Windows Mobile: You choose the SIP you like (or no sip) and it will be used by PCM no matter what SIP you're using in WM
- Staying pressed on a message mark it as read/unread
- Fixed PCM looks without theme (it's definitly better with a theme, but is usable).
- Bug fixes
- And yes for some really annoying people (I hope they have some sense of humor), an option to get out of fullscreen
And of course you can get the stuff: here
finally you decide to made a native version... what language are you using to do that ? because your exe is very big and it still use more of 1 Mbyte of memory in my phone... eheheh i saw also you decided to use letter dividers as my iMedia, now I'm in holiday and i can continue my work too

And I'll be happy to test your version as soon as it's usable.
By the way, how were the exam?
exams very well thanks... and finally holiday for a month!! my version about scrolling is already usable... I have to make a class to make some nice bitmap buttons, assign commands for direct call and direct SMS (they are just two strings of code) but the most is done... all the other are features to add, I'm using just C++ and API why you choosed to use MFC ? I think you could do it without, it's better.
Wow.
I have to admit this is very impressive. Small memory footprint, fast, elegant...!
And thankfully no .NET, lol.
That threaded SMS is very nice as well. That's a huge bonus.
Couple of things/requests:
- 240x240 support
Right now, it's mostly okay. But in a Contact, some of the formatting gets cut off.
- Type as well as scroll
I understand the primary purpose is to scroll with your finger, but what about having something similar to other Contact managers? So say I want to find "Steve" I type S-t-e with each letter narrowing down the list. Right now, I can type "S" but if I hit "T" it jumps to all of the "T" contacts. Also, better D-pad support. Like say I hit "S" it would be nice then to select each contact by using the D-pad.
I obviously use a Treo so it's much faster for me to type than scroll with the KB always open.
- Any plans for further integration of the threaded SMS into the system?
Like hooking into the notifications and having it "take over" from the default system? I would suspect this is very difficult, yet you've certainly proven yourself already with this app!
The graphics and transitions are simply superb too.
best,
Mal
hi,
thx for this new version but at the moment i will stay with contactmanager 0.11:
1. the alphabetical index on the left has smaller letters than in the .net cf version.
2. scrolling in the previous version works better. the new one has an unnatural acceleration during the scrolling.
edit:
3. on the previous version i could tap for example on "W" and it jumped to the last contacts in my list, which start with the letter "T". in the new version nothing happens.
edit2:
could you please try this:
the current problem with the alphabetical index is that i want to use the device one-handed. while it is in my right hand i have to use my right hand's thumb to use the index. using the left (visible) index means, that i have to stretch my thumb over the whole screen and it often covers display of the currently pressed letter. and with the invisible index on the right holding the device gets a bit difficult and it could drop if i am in the bus for example.
i wanted to ask you if you could try, how a horizontal alphabetical index on the bottom would work. it that too small on a 2,8" display or could it be useful?
Bugs
1. When I press the the hide button it actually exits the program.
2. Text on the Favorites screen is off the screen at the edges.
edit: I also agree with LordDeath that the alphabetical index on the left side should be bigger like on the .Net version.
kDub
how to i adjust the settings for the new PocketCM? in the older version (.11) there was a settings.ini file, however, i dont see such a file in the .zip folder. am i missing something here?
Bugs with 0.5
1.) Contact pictures in details view are cropped in the middle of the picture, so it appears there's missing pixel rows in the middle.
2.) When favorites is empty, the text displayed on the favorites screen runs off the screen, it should be word wrapped.
Great works so far!
Is it possible to tweak the speed of the scroll/flick?
Not trying to be a pain but is there an ETA for the .cab version? Sorry if you posted this, didnt see it in your post. Thanks
Wow so much faster, its great.
Just to offer my 2 cents
1. I love the SMS Threader. Anyway you make the keyboard retractable? Possibly change the font size even?
2. Also related to the keyboard. its actually very good, I just find it difficult to get the buttons on the edge because of the design of the 8525 in my case. Maybe to move the Q,A, etc in a little more? Maybe im retarded but I tried writing 'mwah' to my gf and I hit s instead of a 4 times in a row, lol
3. Lastly, can we set up the order that the contact page is displayed for a particular contact. IE right now it looks to be in a strange order (for me anyway) ..showing Company, Home, Work, Mobile, then SMS. Ive love to have Mobile, then SMS then whatever. Or something like that. If we could modify it that would be even better.
Thanks for taking my input. =P
Great product!
I like it better then the ContactManager version but I have one problem your keyboard does not suport many of the letter we use in my contry like æøíóýð so is it posible to not use your keyboard and insted just use the one inside WM6? I know I can use the builtin keyboard but I don't want the one built into the app to show
Hi tene
Just tested your new work. Superb! Few observations:
1) To fast scroll, move finger across the full screen. Short scroll, just the centre portion. Cool!
2) Threading SMS display not perfect yet. When I switched from keyboard to Phonepad, the sms threads moved up automatically, but it didn't display properly until I touch it, move it. But the fact that you can read your previous sms is... cool too!
3) Sending of SMS, no problem I believe, cos' it appears in the Messaging 'Sent' box. Will know when my wife reply.
- But one thing that's strange. In the 'Sent' box, it didn't show the my wife's name, but just the phone number. Any idea how come?
4) The 'twirling' effect - moving from contact screen to SMS panel is COOL!
5) Index scrolling.. You lengthen the display of letters is also a great enhancement. Not so easily block by hand now.
6) Index scrolling 2 .. When you scroll to 'E', it will stop at E section (with the 'E' title bar on top). Think this is good cos' it's very clear that you are at the section of your selection.
Overall, a great job!!
Great upgrade!
Definite improvement over 0.11--good job!
Observations
--Loads much faster as advertised!
--I like the scrolling effect in 0.11 better. It was smoother, but now seems less fluid and "stiffer"
-- New single letter headers to break up the contacts list is interesting--not sure I like it yet
-- How do I delete a contact? Appears I have to select the contact, tap to bring up the menu, tap to view contact, then click menu softkey then delete and another tap to confirm...too many steps (6 taps on screen). Can you add a "Delete contact" option with confirmation in the menu for eact contact? Wouls reduce to 4 taps anyway...
--PageDown and PageUp were not added as mentioned in 0.11 thread--can you consider adding this to function just like up/down on the d-pad?
It seems as if the A-Z index on the side is designed more in mind for one-handed operation for left handed people. Is there any way you'd consider adding an option in the settings.ini file to allow us to move around components? Say for example, moving the A-Z index bar to the right side, move contact pictures in the list view, etc.
Other than that, the only things I'm not wild about is the 'snappiness' of the scrolling as opposed to how soft it was in the previous version, and the small area on the details page to use a finger gesture to go back to the contact list. The last one isn't such a big deal, but the other two would definitely improve usability.
Absolutely fabulous application (as before) and now lightning fast!! Thank you!
I love the SMS Threader. However, I noticed, that the sort order is not always correct. I send an SMS at 19:55 and received an SMS at 19:56. However the last one was put above the first one on the list.
Also: Where is the settings.ini? In my Zip.file of PocketCM there was none.
Read the "Build a theme" section in the original post.
The settings are stored in "theme.cmt". It's just a zip file. There should be a "settings.ini" in the "theme.cmt" file, that you can mess with.
You can do this by :
1.) Renaming "theme.cmt" to "theme.zip"
2.) Unzipping theme.zip to a temporary folder
3.) Modify the settings.ini to your liking
4.) Zip up the contents of the temporary folder
5.) Name the zip file theme.cmt.
Looks great.
Thanks
A couple of observations: Can't change order of phone numbers, if you have a few numbers for a contact the normal mobile contact number ends up off screen, where secondary numbers appear at the top of the list.
Does not seem to be a way to show email address on the contact screen, used to be able to do this thru the .ini.
When using the indexing (which works very well) the "letter" in the bar is too close to the scrolling finger, would be nice if it was in the middle of the screen (portrait mode) so it can be seen when using either hand.
Also I have seen when in portrait mode that when you select the contacts picture the drop down box can come up with 3 x 2 boxes ( 2 lots of 3 side by side) insrtead of the 6 in a row.
Please ignore part of this email, will play with the theme editing to see if it solves some of my issues
Keep up the great work
Now available for PocketPC devices too ...
DontForget is easy-to-use and highly customizable Windows Mobile application that can repeatedly remind you of unread SMS text messages,
unread MMS multimedia messages, missed calls, unread E-mails and missed calendar events by sound, vibration, notification window or hardware LED.
But it is not just an extension for Windows Mobile operating systems which should already be present and preinstalled by the operating system.
DontForget also can do much more. You can also schedule to automatically switch your device to certain profile, switch to the Flight-mode in given time of deactivation and much more.
And, by purchasing the license you automatically get technical support, upgrades and future enhancements and the income is used to contribute to special school for sightless children.
Even that version for PocketPC offers nearly the same features as the version for Smartphone, they are internally very different.
PocketPC version is build on complettely new basis so it can take advantage of this sub-platform and it is optimized for 24/7 usage – especially for minimal CPU load
and for tight cooperation with the Windows Mobile OS Power Management.
Key features include:
• wide range of monitored events (SMS, MMS, missed calls, calendar events, unread e-mails, voicemails)
• choose sound to play for reminder notification (5 sound samples included)
• manual or automatic (according the profile) sound volume
• selectable repeat time interval and repetition rate
• selectable vibration and LED alert (device specific, read further down)
• wide range of deactivation setting (in selected profile, in the Flight-mode or specified time period)
• highly customizabled deactivation and re-activation actions (action scheduling) like:
• switch the device to the Flight-mode or back to GSM mode (Phone on/off)
• switch to selected phone profile
• execute or open selected application or file
• scheduled reboot (soft-reset) to automatically reboot your device in preset weekdays and time to keep your device healthy
• Flight-mode switching and automatic reboot feature is working even the device is locked or secured by the SIM PIN
• full support and utilization for the Windows Mobile Power Management and low CPU load optimalization
• multilanguage support (English, German, French, Dutch, Spanish, Czech, Slovakian, Polish, Russian and Chinese)
You can find more information and the download at the application page.

I'm currently using PhoneAlarm to do have reminders for unread SMS, E-Mail etc.
However, I really like the idea of this app. Maybe when I'm tired of PhoneAlarm, I'll give this a try.
For someone might be an advantage DontForget doesn't resides on the Today screen - it's really hidden and working in the background.
It also means it is optimized for 24/7 usage – especially for minimal CPU load and for tight cooperation with the Windows Mobile OS Power Management.
Hujer,
I have followed your program for quite some time. This is great!!!!

Sounds promising, will give it a try.
Perhaps you can add a reminding by rule, eg. on file oder registry changing.
or on
- cell
- service provider
- low battery
- incomming eMail, SMS or MMS (by keywords)
etc.

Do you think these are missed events?

Yes, I've played with this idea some times ago ... but finally I ended up - this is just waste of time.
In general, all LED features are very device and even OEM specific and may not work in the same way or correctly on all devices.
And I don't want to produce a hack - rather a stable and correctly running application, which will work in the same manner on all WM devices.

No hacking at this point, but i think at hklm/system/state/ exists a lot of interesting states.
eg. /phone/cell broadcast, /radio ready state, and so on.
With a reminder on file changing i could run a batch-file (with tinybatch.exe) that will backup the corresponding file.
And with the possibility to make reminders by rules, DontForget would become a universal tool.
Hi hujer,
thank you for the app. I waited a long time for DontForget PPC. I tried a lot of other reminder soft and wasn't happy with them.
No I have an error message after executing DontForgetAdmin " Exception Configuration.Write: NullReferenceException". And after a softreset DontForget doesn't start automatically. How can I change this?

Of course, I would like to help you and fix this problem. I'll need your help.
Please, contact me via e-mail you can find on the Support page.
there is a way to enable repeat reminders for sms/email/etc that doesn't involve paying $15.
i have no problem buying software, but i can't believe how much people are charging for such a simple app.... $15 to just repeat a notification? yeah ok.. i'll settle for the free edit-the-registry-version. i bought far more complex apps for much reasonable prices.
these forums seem to be going from contributions to commercial apps and blatant advertisements.
Two points from me......
1. @tft - yeah, there's a free "edit the registry" option which, IMHO, sucks big time as it keeps on reminding you even after you've dealt with the call or SMS or email or whatever......free it might be, useful it is not!!
2. @hujer - liking what you've done so far but I'd like to have the ability to set different sounds for different reminder types (like my current "app of choice" - AlarmPal - does).....I place more importance on missed calls than I do on missed SMS's, so if DF had different sounds for each event then I would know what I'd missed without having to look at my phone.
Keep up the good work!!
Mark.

DontForget is not about "repeated notification" only - there are also some other possibilities and features (hoping you read about).
If you think it's so simple to write such app which reflects all possible states and WM Power Management and a couple of other things - write your own itself.
And then, when you are finished, we can polemize about ...

Yes, this feature is on my ToDo list, but actually finishing real PocketPC version had bigger priority. Other words: I will add this possibility in (some) future release, definitely.
Get the minor update now.
DontForget is still growing. There will be more and more options and possibilities in the near feature.
And don't forget this is not just a another reminder application, with DF you can manage more e.g. schedule periodic reboots (soft-resets) to keep your device healthy etc.
Version 2.62 for Smartphone and 2.02 for PocketPC released - recomended update
This is recomended update for all to avoid problems reported by some users
who had troubles to run DontForgetAdmin e.g. after ROM update etc.
More info you can find here: http://magazin.softimage.cz/dontforget/news/
Version update 2.63(SP) and 2.03(PPC) released
This update for Smartphones and PocketPCs contains some internal fixes.
Mainly this version fixes the problem with LED and/or Vibration alert on devices which have more than 2 system LED lights defined (like HP iPAQ 614c)
causing the device does not vibrate (or LED-blink) on remiders.
Please also note you can use DontForget application to simply fix the "Amber LED not blinking on Reminders" problem.
More info and download you can find here: http://magazin.softimage.cz/dontforget/news/
First I would like to say thanks to truburt for creating iCaller, without which this app would not be possible.
We have long awaited an app that will show you the caller's location based on area code. There are no apps I know of that are able to do this in real time, certainly not any free ones... until now.
LocateCaller will identify any area code in the 50 US states, DC, and Canada, and display the caller's location on the incoming call screen!
Features
Works with any area code in the US & Canada
Full-screen caller ID window
Screenshot
Instructions
If your phone has the HTC full-screen caller ID, you must disable it per the instructions here and then soft-reset
If your phone is currently using a third-party incoming call screen, disable it and soft-reset
Install the attached CAB
To test, open \Program Files\LocateCaller\iCaller.exe and call your number from another phone
The app will be added to startup automatically. If you can't get it to work, and troubleshooting doesn't help, simply remove the shortcut from Startup.
If the app works for you and you find it useful, please consider buying me a coffee
Technical Details
LocateCaller is an extension for iCaller. iCaller is a full-screen CID app created by truburt. Since it uses HTMLView, I was able to create this special extension using Javascript. Since iCaller is a native app, the use of Javascript does not hinder the speed significantly.
Issues
If your stock caller ID screen is still showing up, edit "settings.ini" in the program folder. Change sSysCallerWndTitle from Phone - Incoming to Phone - Incoming... Note the dots. Click "iCaller stop", wait 10 seconds, then re-open iCaller for the new setting to take effect.
This app is written in Javascript. Therefore, the only likely bugs are from iCaller or PIE. As such, it may be difficult if not impossible for me to fix certain types of problems.
If you are having problems, please make sure the bug is not with iCaller! Please report a bug here only if the stock iCaller works for you.
You may have to set PIE as the default browser to get this to work.
This is only tested on my Touch Pro because that is the only WM device I have available. It should work on other devices, but I can't make any promises.
Enjoy!

Does this work based on having a wifi/data connection to check the area code, or is there some sort of list file?

While i am guessing on this i would say its based of a list file which it references when it reads the area code off the incoming call.
I say this because it works for USA only, there is an aplication like what you speak of floating around here that works for all countries(never used) but of course it requires a data connection.
sbetten, I will look into Portugal.
Wizard, as stated this is real-time. All data is in the app itself. No data connection needed.

band, I believe Canada is based on the same number scheme as the US, so it should be easy to just add codes. I should be able to push out an update within the next couple of days with CA included.
i just tried but the default dailer is still coming up...i checked where you said in your readme but i dont think i would need to change that because im using WWE so idk :S
jug, you may have to change the window title in settings.ini to match the title of your caller ID screen. The readme.html is actually trubert's from iCaller... just giving credit where it's due. Also don't forget to stop iCaller and start again after any settings change.

Thanks! I miss the Touch Pro's dialer and incoming screen too. Unfortunately the only way I have found to get rid of HTC's incoming screen is to disable the dialer skin too. There is a way to hide the HTC incoming screen through some API's, however it would have to be implemented in the iCaller program itself. I think trubert is working on doing just that, so if you hold tight a little bit you may be able to turn your dialer back on soon. I wish I had the programming knowledge to intercept calls directly. Since I don't, I have to rely on iCaller for that functionality and then implement this on top of it.

band, I believe Canada is based on the same number scheme as the US, so it should be easy to just add codes. I should be able to push out an update within the next couple of days with CA included.
